I guess this thing can be "officially" confirmed because it is now up for pre-order at Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000CEXNOE/wwwjedidefend-20/) for $45with an expected ship date of May 1st (but we all know how those ship dates go ::)).
Should be the same old Gunship, but this time with the killer paint deco from the cartoon. $45 though seems like a HUGE rip-off considering the first release went for $40 and was clearanced and the RotS version sold like hotcakes for $30. >:(
Unless it's got a bunch of pack-in figures, I'm going to have to pass...
-
I got my hands on the ROTS version, so I'm not sure I'll bother with another. Although the CW paint job was VERY sweet.
-
The new Clone Wars Republic Gunship is up for pre-order at Amazon.com - $45 though!!
:o
-
Here's the link to it...
Pre-Order at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000CEXNOE/wwwjedidefend-20/104-0550899-1363904)
I wonder if it will have the "shark" paint scheme?
:P
-
I'm thinking I don't really need a third one of these ::) The paint deco was pretty neat though.
-
Folks are talkign about this guy over in the Clone Wars Section.
Yes, it is supposed to have the Cartoon "Shark" paint aps...
-
I wonder though, if it's in SAGA 2006 packaging, wouldn't it be considered a SAGA item? I guess we won't know until we see the packaging.
I'm thinking that this might come with a figure or two considering the price tag on it. Seems like many of the 2006 repacked vehicles are going to have pack in figures, right? Maybe two Clone pilots would be a good pack in (Evolution style). Or one pilot and one ARC Trooper (new sculpt). Doubt it, but it would be cool.
:P
-

Yeah. All we know about it at the moment is that it is from the Clone Wars Cartoon, so it went over there (just like the EE 4-Pack Clones did when they first popped up).
If pictures show up and it's in Saga style packaging, then it will most likely find it's way back over here...
I'm thinking that this might come with a figure or two considering the price tag on it.
That's kinda what I was hoping too. $45 for this thing is a rip off unless it's got a couple NEW pack-in figures.
The original didn't sell well at $40 until they went on clearance and the CW and RotS versions sold like hotcakes at $30. Charging $45 for these is stupid unless they have at least one new pack-in figure. :-\
-
I'll be passing at the $45 price. Way too much money for a vechile I have 2 of already. I think that may come and haunt them. Then again, because it looks like the B-25J's Apache Squadran with the Shark teeth from the Clone Wars this thing will probably sell like hot cakes, and on the secondary market it will cost me an arm and a leg if I ever want one. Guess I will just have to accept the fact that I am not going to pay $45 or more for this and move on.
-
I'm not sure what I will do yet. I think that one reason the ROTS one sold so well (besides the cheaper pricepoint) is that it was released right off the bat, clones were everywhere to be bought to populate the ship, the movie was more popular, and it doesn't seem like it was produced in the higher quantities like the earlier version. I could be wrong, but on the surface that's how it appeared to me.
For pack ins, who knows... I'd love to see some sort of pack ins. There is also the possiblity that Amazon is charging maybe $5.00 higher than a retail price, and that it will retail at $40.00 like the original version and won't have any pack ins.
While a Clone Wars shark teeth repaint would probably look awesome, I might pass on it as I'd rather see something *new* like the Tank Droid, a Spider Droid, or if it has to be a repack, then the Hailfire Droid.
:P
-
I'll be picking up one. That is if I see it.
-
For that price I expect to see at least a couple figs, even if they're just repaints (a blue ARC trooper would be neat).
-
Only if it is really great...with an ARC Trooper and maybe an ARC Pilot...?
-

Well, it was hard to find a #6 clone here so I dont really think that the clones were easy to find so they could populate the ship...but then again I live in Canada.
I think that it wont have any pack ins.
-
What if the price is higher due to scaled side turrets?
-
Scale sized turrets? I wish... but I doubt they are doing that.
Personally, I'd love to see a deluxe pilot figure come out with a turret that could snap onto the Gunships.
:P
-

I doubt they are doing it as well because in the cartoon the side turrets were not there:
So, technically, while the Hasbro toy doesn't match the movie version of the ship, it matches the cartoon version pretty closely. ;)
-
I wonder when pics of this are going to surface. I guess that I will probably want to pick it up, even if it's without any pack in figures.
:P
-
I'd be sort of tempted by this new gunship as well, if it had that Clone Wars paintjob pictured above. When it comes down to it though, the combination of the higher price and the fact that these just take up all sorts of room, I'd probably have to pass. I barely have room for the one I have. It could be neat though. I agree, if it is $45 it should come with a couple of figures at least.
-
$45? Eeesh.

OK, so I cut and pasted and merged all our various "Clone Wars Gunship" threads together and re-located them into this here Saga thread since the packaging is most definitely Saga.
We now return you to our regularily scheduled discussion... :P
-
To take a word from Hasbro AWESOME! I love the recent box art for the Gunships. Will definately be picking up two, one to keep boxed, and one to open of course.
It looks like it might come with some Clone pack-in's! Love the Specialist Clone with the mini gun. ;D
I'm kinda glad this is TRU Exclusive. I've been pretty fortunate to find the recent TRU Exclusives, and that's saying something because I usually don't find squat.
-
I don't have the room for this, and should avoid it, but I have to admit that the CW paintjob (and possible new figures) definitely have me tempted. We'll have to see though. Is anyone else planning on picking this up now that you've seen what is on the way? The paintjob looks pretty neato to me.
-
In the RS picture you can clearly see the phrase "Figures not included" on the box. Since that is the case, I'll pass on this one.
$45 is just too much for a 4th generation re-hash even with the pretty paint job. :-\
-
Kick-Ass!
I'm glad I passed on the lame (overhyped) ROTS version - this version rocks!
The price sucks though... :(
Wonder how we can get the new clones pictured on the box? Part of the Saga Collection later this year?
-
In the RS picture you can clearly see the phrase "Figures not included" on the box. Since that is the case, I'll pass on this one.
But those aren't typical clones (except the blue and red ARCs). The one in front has what looks like a repainted AT-RT helmet and a gattling gun. I don't think Hasbro would create that fig just for a picture on a box. Could he be a new fig? Wasn't there rumors awhile back of a Heavy Clone Gunner?
I don't have room the one gunship I have, let alone another. I do like the paint job though. Looks great.
-
I guess I overlooked the "figures not included" part, so that might make it easier to pass. If it were the normal $30 price point, I'd be a little more inclined to pick it up...and plus if I had the space. Even if these aren't quite to scale, the wingspan of these gunships make them a pain to display, at least in my space.
-

The Red ARC is SA while the Blue right next to him looks to be the standard CW ARC. The other two in the back it's hard to tell. The Clone with the mini gun looks to be SA, and a new sculpt. I think there is a good chance we may see this Clone down the line somewhere.
I agree, why would Hasbro create this Clone just for some box art? They must have the mold ready for a possible release.
-
Well, this is very damn cool looking!
The ARC Troopers look totally new to me, not those lame ones that came out in the Clone Wars line, and the Gatlin Clone looks sweet. Looks like the blue ARC near the front might be the old one, but the two in the back look different, at least to me. I'll most definitely get this ship, maybe a new ARC or two, and a few Gatlin Clones I hope.
:P
-
Once upon a time, when the Clone Wars Command Gunship was originally released, it had pictures of a "Yellow" Clone Commander on it to everyone's surprise. The "Yellow" Clone Trooper was not available at the time, but he showed up later in the Wal-Mart Value 2-packs.
I'd have to say that that the clone(s) on this box are in a similar boat. Even though they are not included with the Gunship, I would guess that most definitely will be out sometime this year.
-
Good point Jeff.
Something I noticed, the red ARC Trooper almost looks like a souped up version of the EE Clones or a custom I've seen somewhere... notice there don't appear to be any antennas on the helmets of the front two ARC troops.
:P
-
HOLY CRAP! i must get that!!
and dont tell me hasbro is gonna re-release the red ARC trooper that i shelled ebay $$ for!!! >:(
-
They look like they have ball-jointed elbows now. Man, I hope no cool figs are exclusive to the ship....
-
Don't worry - if there were figures included with the ship, the box would clearly state it.
-
i think that this ship is just awsome. even if it does have a higher price i still think it's worth it. the paint job looks great and the new figures look awsome too. i think it's really cool to see hasbro making eu stuff.
the red arc looks sick and the gattling gun clone looks cool too, he could mabey use a bit more blue on him when it gets released though.
CHEWIE- i think that all the regular blue clones are the old clone wars ones, the front defintetley, and if you look at the back 2 arc's feet, they have the same boots as the front blue arc, just an observation! :D
-
Kickass. The ship looks great, but I'm not crazy about the price. Here's hoping retail sells it for $30, like ROTS. And here's hoping that it's easy to find as well.
That Red ARC is DEFINATELY a kitbash from the EE Red Trooper. The Blue ARCs are the same ones we saw 3 years ago in the original CW line, and the pilots look like white Evolutions Clones with the pilot helmets. That other Heavy Gunner looks like a kitbash of the AT-RT Driver and an SA Clone. Still looks good though!
-
Don't worry - if there were figures included with the ship, the box would clearly state it.
Yep, and in states in the lower left corner… Figures Not Included.
-
Here's hoping retail sells it for $30, like ROTS. And here's hoping that it's easy to find as well.
Good luck - it's TRU exclusive and it looks like their price is set....at $45.
The website usually reflects the B&M price - and I doubt you'll find it on clearance.

Heh. I jumped on that without thinking.

Friggin' sweet!
I'll be hopefully shelling out for one of these bad boys.

****, it's TRU exclusive? I must have forgotten that part. :-\
-
Very, very nice. I definately am going to try to get oe of these bad boys. For the ARC troopers, the red one looks like a #33 clone commander and an EE red clone, the next one looks like the old version, the gunner looks like a #33 clone commander and an AT-RT driver mix, the next trooper looks like and old version, and the last one may be old, but I think it might be a #33 clone commander/EE blue clone mix, since he is holding a DC-15 rifle, while the Clone Wars ARC troopers had those special ops gunns with the straps.
-
That's a quality exclusive repaint. Finally, one that makes complete sense and comes from a popular EU source. Looks top notch.
I'm very pleased with the figures too. I'm sure they'll be carded as part of the standard line, but I'd be pretty happy with a Battle Pack as well.
-
(http://chewie34.250free.com/012506gunship.jpg)
Edit: It says figures not included, if you look really hard at the bottom left corner. It's still pretty cool, though.
-
This is the coolest thing I've seen in a while. It's a bummer the clones aren't included (especially with that price...) but they sure wouldn't mock up something like the Gatlin Clone just for the box art. I gotta believe these are going to show in the basic line somewhere.
-
I have heard from quite a few people from other sites that there will be a Battlepack featuring these Clone Troopers.
-
Yeah, it like similar poses in from the exclusive Target Clonetrooper 5 pack awhile back. That's what I thought it was at first. Anyway, I still don't have a Republic Gunship so maybe I will bite on this one. I probably would have got the ROTS one if it had stayed around long enough for me to cough up the money.
-
****** A! This is awesome!

I already have the ROTS version (which I don't at all regret buying, BTW). And I really have no room for this or the ROTS one for that matter. But I simply must have this!
Incidentally, the ARC minigunner had previously been rumored as some sort of exclusive for this year ... it's on one of the lists posted somewhere in here.
-
I'm sure they'll be carded as part of the standard line, but I'd be pretty happy with a Battle Pack as well.
How sure?
Kevin
-
Let us keep in mind that this is a TRU exclusive, so it should be more reasonably priced than Target's exclusives. So I'd guess $40 or $45 at the most. If I find it, and I usually see all TRU exclusives that come out, i'll get it.
-

Once again, the cost is $45. We know this because the gunship is up for pre-order at Amazon.com right now (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000CEXNOE/wwwjedidefend-20/)!
Sure, there is still a chance it will be less in the stores, but the last 5-6 TRU exclusive items have had the same price on-line as in the stores - Jedi Starfighters, Hoth Battlepack, etc.
-
Everyone seems to have missed that the preorder page says it is only available online. (http://g-images.amazon.com/images/G/01/promotions/sticker/only_available_online.gif)
-

That little thinger means nothing though as it ends up on almost half of the TRU/Amazon exclusive items.
In fact, it's on the Hoth Battle Pack (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00080VMHM/www.jedidefend-20) page and that was available in the retail stores. I think sometimes the Amazon web monkey gets that badge mixed up with this one: (http://g-images.amazon.com/images/G/01/promotions/sticker/r_us_exclusive.gif) :-\
-
Oh ... my bad.
Thanks for clearing that up.
-
Oh dear god...somebody has to promise they will possibly stock up on ARC Troopers and sell them or trade them or something or other.
I am not really excited about that gunship though.
I think it looks too cartoonish, but if I see it...I will buy it!
I'm still hoping for a v-wing.
-
I think that gatling gun in the Clone's hands is from the GI Joe Spy Troops Roadblock.
Man, that looks pretty tempting, but $45 is a bit much.
-
They'd better release a new ARC trooper at around the same time as this gunship.
-
The chin paint on the first Blue Arc trooper is wider than the other two. Iiiiinteresting.
Kevin
-
Do I need a 4th Gunship? No. Am I going to get this one? Probably. It is cool.
-
How sure?
Kevin
Pure speculation, hopes, and dreams.
-
This is the best vehicle of the modern line!
GORGEOUS!!! And to think I JUST got an ROTS gunship....oh, well.
And you know what - Hasbro's smart for charging so much because they know EVERYONE will want it anyway! Brilliant, greedy bastards.
Can't wait til spring!!!!!!
-
The Gunship... I honestly could give a rat's ass about it. I do like the paintjob, but I give more praise to the CW artists than Hasbro. That was just incredible design... Nice pulling that from the World War 2 Flying Tiger in WW2, or the 1st Cavalry Nam Huey's... It's rockin' looking, no doubt.
That said, my highlight was the Clones. If they do redo ARC Troopers (I'm really hoping they do both blue and red, since a Sergeant needs his Troopers), and they do that Clone MIni-Gunner... Man I'll wet my pants I think. It could only be better if they did the Clone with the quad-pom-pom guns and a rocket launcher accessory. I've been hoping they do this.... now it's close to a reality. We need new ARC's to replace those originals.
We need more Clone Wars (realistic sculpts) in general. Almost the whole 1st line of figures needs redone, and articulated well.
-
jesse, couldn't agree more. i've put a halt on doing my custom ARC's until I see if they actually release these guys.
-
I never have liked the original ARC Trooper design, just too cartoonish and childish for me, here is the design I customized for an ARC Trooper. This may not be cartoon or comic accurate... but it's much more realistic I think -
(http://www.thecustomalliance.com/cook/120405Alpha.jpg)
And in a way, this Gunship does have a cartoony feeling too. I think that once I get one, it's going to need at the very least a dark wash to make it look more real.
:P
-
I'll get one, just because. At least didn't shell out $160 for a custom painted one.
-
I was thinking about getting this, but I don't have the room in my bacholer pad. I'll pass.
-
The price alone makes it an easy pass for me :)
-

Yeah, $45 is highway robbery. I pee on myself when I think of how I could've picked up the ROTS one when they clearenced them at KB for $10.

My KB clearenced ROTS Gunships for $10 near the beginning of November. For some reason I didn't purchase any, and I checked back after Black Friday and they were gone.

Well, if you buy the CW one, you'll still come out $5 ahead if you consider that the retail price should be $30. ;)
-
$45.00 is hard, but 2006 seems to be year of experimenting just how high they can go. Well, they'll get my 45 for that ship. The clone wars cartoons were a nice diversion that fit the continuity well. Like the OTC line, the CW should be finite and you can actually get one of everything without adding on or selling your home.
-

Edit: It says figures not included, if you look really hard at the bottom left corner. It's still pretty cool, though.
Take a good look at the pilots. They look like new sculpts, so, why isn't one in the battle pack with the other clones? Perhaps these pilots are fixed to the ship.
-
Weird, it looks like the Saga #2/49 Clone Pilot but without the chest box & hoses. ???
Could just be some Photoshop trickery, too.
-

I don't know if they are "fixed" since they don't show up in the loose photos of the Gunship (http://www.jedidefender.com/image.pl?http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-06/CWGunship2_LG.jpg).
Hard to say with the picture being blurred by some sort of glare, but when I looked at it, I just assumed that they were Pilots created with the Evolutions Gunship Pilot Helmet and Clone. I don't know, I guess we'll just have to wait and see... :-\
-
Seems like the 4th release of the gunship would be a weird time to add a fixed pilot. And the box does say Figures Not Included. Not to mention he doesn't appear to have the yellow Pilot trimming, or indeed any paint besides black (although it's hard to see with the glare). I'm guessing it's just a random figure mockup they stuck in there to look good for the box photo. (http://media.ign.com/boardfaces/33.gif)
-
I would have to agree with the mock up theory for the pilots, but with a $45.00 price point, maybe they are specific to the ship?
-
When is this due?

-sigh- another gunship to hunt down! :P

Is that online or in the stores?
-
Hopefully both but Amazon is notorious for slipping dates (remember the Unleashed fiasco)?
I'm looking forward to this ship and glad that I passed on the ROTS version. Now I can apply that $30 to this overpriced version!
-
With it being available overseas already it's a good likelihood it's not too far off... Images have surfaced of people having them in-hand though. May could be right on target.

-
Sure wish we'd see pictures of the TRU Battle Pack that is rumored to coincide with the ship...
-
Yeah, I agree. I'd really like to see the Battle Pack. $15 higher pricepoint to make up for losses that could come due to it being an exclusive and a shorter production run, ouch.
I think both the Gunship and the Battle Pack will be a pain to find if you're beating your feet. Just may grab these online to avoid the trouble.
:)
-
It's hard to take a loss on an item that already is "made" though. It's a matter of just running it through the factory and shipping it out. There's REALLY no excuse for the higher cost other than to milk fans for what they feel they can get... TRU's never been known to come in short on exclusives too, so these could be widely abundant at that price.
Mold toolings are done for the thing... Production costs are going to be eaten up in a $30 pricepoint, much less a $45 pricepoint, so Hasbro and/or TRU really have a screwjob for the fans on this one as far as the cost goes.
-
^^^^
Agreed. HasBLO = That sucking whirlwind sound coming from your wallet....
HasBLO + TRU = Hold on to your arse. What wallet....

Well, the production run is limited to one retailer vs. worldwide distribution. That makes a huge difference.
Plus, they know it's a paint scheme everyone wants - why not charge more?
-
Well I don't know about everyone else orders on Amazon, but mine got bumped up to shipping May 4th instead of May 1st. What a surprise. ::)
-
Yeah, I was checking Amazon today, and they bumped the dates for the Gunship and the battle pack to May 4th.
-
Ok, I did not score these, but a close friend saw a collector who bought two today in Utah. Two stores in Utah each got 1 case of 2 ships today and they sold out ASAP! These did hit so they are out there, just not in abudance yet. The other stores are not scheduled to get them for at least a week now.
As a further fyi, in our district in Utah the ARC Troopers/Hunt for Grevious/Defense of the Senate TRU exclusive is not in the warehouse here as of 8:30pm tonight. It usually takes 7-10 days from what I've been told for the items to go from warehouse to store so those are still about one to two weeks out. I definetly want one of these, but I am waffling on the gunship due to the price.
So they are out in a small numbers, a trickle, so if your by a TRU and they have gotten a truck in, you might want to check.
-
This isn't new info to me. I'm feeling lucky at my TRU this weekend...we'll see I guess ;). Our local TRU Distro Wherehouse has had gunships in since last Thurs. but still no other exclusives yet. Was told by Store manager to check store this weekend..crossing fingers and hoping more than 1 case hits :-\.
-
Well, I got one of the Clone Wars Gunships today. Here is the picture with receit. The store I got em from only got 2 in so they are not hitting in mass. It helps to have the item # when you go into the store. BTW, yes, I had not finished making the bed when I took the pictures. . . .

-
Awesome! May be a good excuse to take the boy to the toy store!
:D
-
Let me clarify. Ship is $44.99 plus tax so it put my SON (12) back $47.96. He wants me to point out that he owns the ship, not me, and that he bought it with money that he saves working with me and his Mom cleaning her work 1x a week. Anyway, its $48 roughly.
-
Let your son know that he's got a great new toy there... and it must feel good to work hard for something and pay for it himself.
Bravo young collector. :)
-
Those just hit the TRU's here in Indy this morning. :)
-
Hmm, we're rumoured to get those up here as well, I wonder if they'll be priced at the same price as the last gunship or if they'll catch on and jack the price up as well. They were only $39.99 last time around in CAD.
-
:-X no local TRU by work. feeling a little sick i might have to go home a little early ;)
-
This has got to be one of the coolest looking ships Hasbro was finally smart enough to make. (you like how I compliment and insult Hasbro in the same sentence? ;))
-
(you like how I compliment and insult Hasbro in the same sentence? ;))
(Un)Fortunately this is very easy to do Jesse. ;D

Way too true. :P
-
Well no luck at my local TRU tonight, I even checked their computer (myself) - none in the backroom.
I'd like to find one on the shelves so I can cancel my order from Amazon that will never ship!
(plus I can avoid the heavy shipping $$)
-
I cannot wait until these things come into my town, which will probably in two years. :-[
-
None of the TRUS in my area (which are few and far between now) have these in stock, but the warehouse has 780 ready to ship out.
I'm looking forward to this repaint more than any other vehicle in a long, long time.
-
It is way cool, and hats off to Genndy Tartakovsky for putting together such an imaginative and visually stunning side plot that even Hasbro had to buckle and make toys to go with it. I was just looking at the pile of figures and ships we have for these animated chapters, and was stunned. There is room for (and product for) some cool dioramas.
At the risk of sounding too anti PT, I almost wish they had gone back and told the story of Vader in this style, rather than CG layers over mediocre acting and a pre-determined plot. AOTC and ROTS had some cool moments, and the clones and Palpatine rock, well, I guess I'll stop there. At least they didn't try to make Ewok senators.

For those buying this in stores beware. Make sure the tape is in place correctly on the box sides and has not been cut and the old switcheroo has taken place.

I haven't seen or heard of any instances yet, but this kind of thing will happen here and there as it always does. By and large, it's not a huge problem or issue. No more than shoplifting is.

Mine is fine. No swap aroo here! We are going to open it up this evening and put it together. I'll post some more pictures here when I do if people want. Let me know if you have questions about the ship.
-
By the way Jim said it I thought he had bought one and it had an older gunship in it or something.
-
I'd like to see some comparison shots, please?
-
By the way Jim said it I thought he had bought one and it had an older gunship in it or something.
I almost bought it til I noticed how loose all the parts sounded inside. Then I noticed the retape on the side. Took a peek in and noticed it was an older ship. With people having mulitples of this in there collection and the pricepoiint it does not surprise me. I brought it to the service desk and told them they had been robbed. I will be checking for more on my lunch break today as well checking if this was put back on the shelf.

Here are some pictures of the ship put together, and with some troops in it, and comparing them side by side to two other gunships from AOTC and ROTS.

There is some weathering on the side edges (see picture)
I hate the missiles on this ship . . . . they are grey (on the box t hey show red). You can see how the grey look in the picture below. I swapped out the grey and put them in the ROTS ship (looks somewhat better) and put the red in the CW Ship which I think is a major improvement.

As usual, figures don't stand up that well in the gunship, and with the ARC's their antenea visor has to be flipped down to stand them up.

Nice Gunship collection!
I'm jealous! :D
-
That for the awesome review and pictures. I wanted it before but I was a bit on the fence. But since I have the previous 3 (?) versions, I'll go for it.
-

Did you notice which one was in the box? It might be worth picking up.
Also, Blackdog the black trimmed one is also a Clone Wars gunship. A red trimmed one is from AOTC.
-
That's a good point - the 'imposter' version may be the Clone Wars version.
Highly unlikely though.
I guess if it were the ROTS version, it could still be worth picking up.
:-\
-
Also, Blackdog the black trimmed one is also a Clone Wars gunship. A red trimmed one is from AOTC.
You are correct. The Red trim was the first one that came out was with the Saga wave (1st) and was AOTC. The Black Trimmed one that I am showing in my pictures is a Clone Wars Gunship. I guess we would call the new one the Animated Clone Wars Gunship.
-

It was the original release version. And to me it still isnt worth $45 plus the fact that it could be incomplete.

-
Dear God how I want this ship. I never picked up any of the other Gunships, so I feel obligated to buy this one, just so my Clone army will have a place to hang out.
-
For anyone who ordered from Amazon. I received my confirmation that my Gunship shipped today. ;D
-
Are these going to be in stores?
-
Yes, in fact they are in stores now...
-
The shark mouth is painted on the ship and is not a decal. Some were wondering.
I thought it was a shark, too, until I heard somewhere that it's supposed to be a rancor.
Think it was mentioned on the CW: V2 DVD.
Kind of a cool idea, I thought.
-

I've heard that too, that it was a Rancor not a shark... I think people just think shark automatically since it's an homage to shark's mouth paintjobs on P-40 fighters from World War II... I've been calling it the sharkmouth paintjob too out of habit.
It's very cool, despite my lack of appreciation for the ship... The paintjob's fantastic. It kind of makes me hope for another A-Wing EU repaint since that's one of my more favored ships from the line. Something a bit more elaborate like this Gunship would be nice.
-
But since when does a rancor have blue stripes? Not even in the EU have I seen a rancor in any color other than beige. Although that's not to say that there couldn't be a subspecies of "Greater Lowland Mongpoovian Albino Stripey Rancor" somewhere.
You're quite right on why people call it "shark", Jesse. I like to call it the "tiger shark" paintjob, which accounts for that factor as well as the stripes, and is a real animal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_Shark) to boot. But I suspect I'm the only one who follows that nomenclature.
-
How many Rancors are there in the Galaxy? 2? 3? Why would a Clone Trooper outfit even know what the hell a Rancor even is? My guess is that its a Wampa, they probably know what they are as well ::)
-

Actually, there are lots of rancors in the galaxy. There's an entire species of them found on several planets, primarily Dathomir where they originated. And yes, that's EU, but so is the Clone Wars toon so it's a valid point.
Point taken on the wampa thing though. That kind of thing bugs me as well--characters knowing stuff that the viewer does, but that most people in-universe logically would not. Why must one in two EU stories make some sort of reference to Tatooine, when by all accounts it's the ass end of the galaxy? ::)

Got my shipping confirmation from Amazon on the Gunship yesterday afternoon, and UPS claims it will be here by tomorrow afternoon. Here's to hoping that actually comes to pass. :)
I went into the local TRU the other day and I talked with what had to be the nicest manager in any retail outlet I have ever entered. She spent at least 30 minutes trying to figure out when they would be getting the Gunship and/or the ARC Battle Pack, even calling other employees out of the stockroom to see if they knew anything. She even let me look over her shoulder while she was doing an SKU lookup on it, and while "my" TRU won't be getting them until next week at the earliest, she showed me how many were ordered (220,000 or something like that) and how many their store would be getting, at minimum.
It was like Bizarro-TRU to say the least. Over the years, the few TRUs I've been in have had the rudest employees and the most spiteful managers of any retailer, and this TRU is the complete opposite. Super cool manager, super cool employees, and if they'd stop asking me for my telephone number at the register, it would be a super cool TRU overall. ;)
-
I consider the color blue on the ship its squad markings or just pilot preference... Nothing to do with the eyes/teeth. The famous P-40 squadron with shark's teeth/eyes in WW2 had colors that didn't match a shark on the plane... It was the eyes/teeth's impression that they left on the enemy that made the plane... The other colors for whatever reason (camo-ing, mission designation, etc.), are inconsequential really to the teeth/eyes then.
And yes it is pretty comical that the Clones know of Rancors, though EU does have a planet of them... I dunno, maybe it's a popular planet? :)
-
if they'd stop asking me for my telephone number at the register, it would be a super cool TRU overall. ;)
Whenever I'm asked, my telephone number is 849-1138. Makes it a fun little game for me.
I feel sorry for the poor bastard who actually has that number here in town, though.
But not too sorry.
-
Well, Shark, Rancor, what-ever you want to call it, it's now listed as in-stock at Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000CEXNOE/wwwjedidefend-20/).
So, if you're one of those folks who doens't like the iffy-ness of Amazon pre-orders, you can go ahead and order now. :P
-
Not to throw another animal/creature in to the mix... I think of the CW S2 DVD Genndy referred to it as a "space whale".
OR maybe I dreamt it :P
-
I went back and listened to that part of the commentary yesterday. Gendy asks one of the other guys to talk about the Gunship, and the other guy just said something about making a nod to the old WWII fighters with the shark paintjobs, and that they just changed it from a shark to a rancor. And that was pretty much it.
As for the question of blue rancors--I don't know. But most of the Exploited Universe is bull**** to begin with, so I don't see how a blue rancor would be any less silly than the rest of it.
-
Well, since its not even in the story, you can imagine that its whatever the hell you want.
-
;D
Well here in so cal the stores are getting a max 2 cases CW gunships at one time ( two in each case) Got mine last night after an hour of being told they did nt have anymore.. ;)
-
I'm sitting on the fence whether or not to buy this one...I'm on a budget of 50 bucks but if I buy this I won't have the ARC troops to put in it...maybe I'll buy the battlepack and wait for more money to purchase the ship.
-

WW2 Paint jobs....? A Shark? I thought they(P-40 squadron) were called 'the flying tigers'.
Anyway, I think the artwork is most Nexu-like. The Nexu at least has nice teeth and striping on the body.
-
Everyone has a different interpretation on this. I was looking at mine last night and the first thing that came to mind was a Reek.
Regardless, this is a sweet vehicle. Blowing away the other 3 paint jobs. If I were to list them in order of preference I would take:
New Clone Wars Version
ROTS Version
AOTC Version
Clone Wars Version (paint job sucks IMO)
Speaking of ship repaints, I am kind of surprised we saw no Arc Fighter repaint. That ship would of looked great in green.
-

Nexu? didn't that have four eyes (like me)? The scheme reminded me more of the large creature Anakin killed later in the season.
Shark-mouth nose art was popular with lots of squadrons on all sides during WWII, as well as today. The AVG (Flying Tigers) made it famous, because they were the only guys doing any real damage to the enemy those first few months after Pearl, not to mention the movie starring John Wayne.
-
Y'see I assume that it's an aminal WE'VE NEVER SEEN. In all six movies we've seen about 20-30 beasts. The SW galaxy is huge. We've bearely scratched the surface.

I don't mean to pick on you but your post is the opposite of my opinions.
I think you mean the Acklay? I see it like that. The Reek was the rhino looking thing.
My Gunship preferances:
Clone Wars Version, gotta love the kill marks
AOTC Version
New Clone Wars Version
ROTS Version, the green just seems sickly
Arc fighters, there was the blue titanium one, which at least makes it an official scheme. From Cato Neimodia, I think.

I ordered one of these today. The pictures posted a couple pages ago look really good! :)
And I'd say it's quite possible that the clones would know what a rancor is...training should prepare them to face almost anything!

Has anyone elses Amazon/TRU order been pushed back? I had an email with a shipping delay until June 8. Why do I feel like I'm heading into Evolutions territory again with these guys?
-
Jared, I know both Ray(BF77) and Ryan(DarthIce) had emails saying their orders were held back.
-
The TRU where my son and I got ours last Saturday put out 12 of these today. I know 5 are gone as local collectors swipped em up. It is the TRU in Salt Lake City in Sugerhouse. Perhaps as time goes by they will be more rapidily available at TRU's.
-
Hit my TRU today, but no such thing was present when I went in, and the employees were hanging out in the customer service hovel.
I couldn't bring myself to interupt their fun.

At $45 dollars, are these going to move well? Is there precident on this pricey of an exclusive that flies off the shelve? I know a lot of people are going to want one, but price is an issue an only so many are going to pay retail for it, let alone scalper prices.
-
Gunships were super rare last year...I only ever saw one for sale and that was at an overpriced place in Sacramento called Stage Nine Collectables. Perhaps the Gunship will be easier to find this time
-

No matter the price when kids see it they will want it just cause its from the cartoon. But at least with the price it should of came with a repainted Clone Pilot as well.
-
Well, the AOTC one was $40, Clone Wars was $30, ROTS was $30, so I figure $45 is worth it for the extra paint layers & masking.
I never saw the Clone Wars cartoon, so I don't feel any nostalgia to get it. I just think it looks kool.
-
This bad boy is in Stores in Cincinnati. I picked mine up this weekend and canceled my order w/ amazon. I recieved an email that both my gunship and Hunt for Grevious packs were going to be pushed back to June so I cancelled the Gunship. If I find the Battlepack i'll can that order too.
Also spoke to the manager at the TRU I got my gunship at and he said that (at least at that particular store) they've always gotten the things that are "online only" and that (off the record) TRU wasn't in a position to bank on anything selling well enough online So the stuff hits the stores too. The "online only" is just a snag to try to lure people for a definate sale rather than having to hunt it down... and to nab em for shipping.
-

A retailer playing dirty pool? I'm shocked.
-
These haven't shown up at our local TRU yet either. I do really like this paintjob of the Gunship, but I think space and price are going to end up keeping me away. If I had a place to display it, and if I hadn't spent so much money recently on VTSC and Marvel Legends, I might consider it more. It does look pretty nice though - the AOTC gunship will have to be good enough for me. Its tough enough for me to find a place to display one, let alone two or three.
-
I did run across one with sloppy paint (bright red from the gun dribbled on to the mouth area).
But I love the ship. I broke it out and my kids and I watched the DVD's with the toys. It was a good way to continue enjoying star wars.
I think the price hike will eventually allow these to sit on the shelves for a bit, but I don't think they will hang around until christmas or clearance time. They are too unique.
-
I gave in to the online ordering on May 2nd and received my 2 gunships last week from Amazon. I got two more on the way but it is pushed back until June 5th. I did not want to go through the ROTS gunship hunt again during it's initial release. I haven't opened them yet as I am in the process of doing some inventory on my collection.
By now, I hope hasbro realizes the gunships sells almost as well as the millenium falcon.

Four gunships? What do you need that many for? ???

Four gunships? What do you need that many for? ???
I keep one boxed to display and the other three are for my diorama in progress...... :)
-
That's a lotta diorama'ing.
My area has a lot of these. Evne low traffic TRU's have at least 4 sitting around, and the high traffic stores have them stocked down where you can get them, then like another 10 up high and out of the way... It's crazy. I think the price is hurting these in particular... It's not packed in a huge box really, so $40+ stings I think.
I love the paintjob despite my feelings about the toy... It's really pretty nice, and I'd think kids would want these things if nothing else, but at least in my area these are REALLY easy to find right now.
-
i went to my local toys'r'us 2 days ago and they had honestly, 12 or 13 of these things. i plan on going again 2marrow, so if anybady wants one i'll be happy to pick them up. i think i'll pobablly get mine 2marrow 2!
let me know.
later

-
went back to tru today and all the clone wars gunships where gone, bummer! guess i missed out and i'll have to wait :'(!
-
Buy it when you see it, these won't be around too long.
-
2 TRU's locally. The first one to get them in has none left, the second still has 11.
-
The high price point will slow sales a bit but they will all be sold out by late summer.
I love this ship my favorite thus far.
But I have to say I am just about done with the Gunship. I have all 4 and thats enough! One of the greatest vehicles to ever grace the line. This one completes my fleet.
I am starting to feel the same the the Jedi Starfighter. Once I get Vaders and Windus 6 should be enough.......
-
I went to TRU after work tonight, they had a ton of CW gunships. Love the paint job, hate the $44.99. I passed on it and bought Major League Baseball 2K6 for PS2 instead. Much better value IMO. If I see the ship on clearance, I'll pick a couple up.
-
If anyone accidently finds a CW Command gunship stuck in the box or wants to sell a CW Command gunship to afford this. Feel free to LMK.
-

huh?
-
DR - at one time somebody did the "buy and switch" technique with the new Animated Gunship.
They bought the new Animated version and returned the box to TRU with the black CW version packed inside.
Clone Hunter is asking if anyone has for sale - either by accident or in general.
Then again, I could be totally off base... :D
-
Exactly correct.

I have still yet to see any of these. Does TRU have to sell all 8000 of the Falcons in order to put these out or something?
-
I dunno Diddly but I went to TRU yesterday and noticed that this store, which had a handful of Gunships, now has one I think. These must be selling to some extent. I would like to get back to the one store I visited that had a HUGE pile of them to see what the pile has dwindled to now...
Could be that the ship is just super popular. I know some guys not that into SW at another board I go to bought the Gunship because they simply thought it looked cool.
-
These haven't shown up at our local TRU either, but we're also sitting on a fair amount of Falcons. As much as I like the Gunship, and wouldn't mind picking it up, I just don't have the room with one already on display. I might change my mind if I see them in person, but I'm not counting on it at this point.
-
They are sitting at the local TRU's. I just think they are priced way to high for collectors to either buy or buy a second one. As for clearance . . . TRU holds onto the product for 2 to 3 years it seems before they clearance.
-
I bought the Gunship and Battlepack at tru today and together it was $75 :o... for two repaints if you think about it. The gunship is okay, I mean...how many do you need? An add on would have been refreshing, but I'm a Clone Wars fan, so I had to get it.
-
i stopped by my tru yesterday and the had about 12 gunships. i'm hoping i can go back and grab one today, if they are still there! they had them up on the top of the shelves in stacks anf falcons where around the corner on the shelves. so they had planty of both, but the gunships wern't in plain sight!

I dunno, if it was discussed before I was paying attention:
Who actually used this ship? Anyone special use the black CW one?
-
Who actually used this ship? Anyone special use the black CW one?
1. Fordo's team of clones in episode 21 of the CW animated series.
2. Not as far as I know
-
Found one of these today, hidden behind Tri-Fighters and Jedi Starfighters in ROTS packaging. I am pleased with it. It's a really cool vehicle, and my first Gunship, but good grief, is there ANY figure that can fit in the cockpit?
-
I don't have any Gunships as of yet,but some AOTC clone pilot can.I don't know which thoe.
-

I discovered that the official Saga Gunship pilot was kinda tight, I switched to the Evolutions AOTC Pilots.
-
Yeah, I can't fit those guys in there, their elbow armor seems to stick out a bit too much. I can fit the ROTS #6 Clones though.
-
The saga pilots will fit but it is a squeeze. I haven't tried the ROTS pilots or Evo pilots yet.
For what its worth, both TRUs in my area still have 4-6 of these gunships. 16 was the most I saw at one time.
-
I feel so bad that I do not own a single Gunship in any way shape or form. None of the 4 that have been released. None of the Titaniums. Zilch. What is wrong with me?! Don't answer that :)
Actually I did want to buy the ROTS version. But at the time I was all into buying the figures first and then I never saw em again.
-
Those gunships fly away :P
-
I am seeing these more frequently, usally about 4-6 at a time in Chicagoland.
they usally do not last too long. Keep your eyes peeled.
Amazon.com really screwed so many of us on this item. I got confirmation from them that I was one of the first 100 people to preorder on 1/24. I still never received it from them. Same goes for the Hunt pack, I was supposed to get it on 6/2. They still have not updated my account yet.
Luckily I have already found both on my own.
I do not hold out much hope with them for the AT-AT and Xwing...................
bastards! >:(

I went to my local TRU and saw 20 of these babies just sittin there. I went back the next day and saw 5 or so. It seems the price is not effecting buyers in my area just yet.
Yeah, Amazon really "dropping the ball" with majority of the public would be an understatement with the gunship and the "Hunt for Grievous" bp. However, I was more fortunate on the gunships and actually received 2 from them and I preordered in the middle of April. I can't say the same with the rest of my huge order. I also managed to find "Hunt for Grievous" bp so it is "cancel-city" for the morons at Amazon. :P

These are starting to sit at my local TRU...I was in there looking for HFG and saw 2 on the shelves and 8 more up top...I was 5 bucks short of it, so I settled for some BBi Paratroopers and Marines.

According to RS (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Amazon_Cancels_Gunship_99059.asp), some people have started receiving cancellations for their Gunship orders through Amazon.com.
-
No shock there for sure, but a bummer for people waiting.
Still... I'd imagine most everyone has a TRU within an hour of them still, or close to it, and these things arne't going anywhere fast I've noticed. Most TRU's I hit have at least 5 if not many more. One nearby has them in bulk it seems even.
-
Wonder what that'll mean for the HFG set?
-
These actually didin't pegwarm around here. I saw a few on the shelves one day, then a few days later, BAM! They were gone.
-
At the very least, what is/was cool about these is that you didn't have to show up in the morning to get one. There were so many that it took a few days for them to sell out.
-
I haven't seen this or the HFG BP at my TRUs yet.
-
I wonder how long it will be before TRU starts putting these on clearance. I am thinking it might be a long time knowing them.
:)

Although Amazon has had the Falcon at 24.98 for a while now by local TRUs still have both packages at 39.99.
-
I hated this ship so much I painted over it!And it still looks like c***!
-
For those people who had ordered it from Amazon (like I had), I received a notice that they and ToysRUs are no longer linked and that TRU now has its own site.
So, they cancelled my order. When I went to the TRU website (this was a couple of months ago) the Hunt for Grievous was sold out.
So, in case anyone was wondering, whatever partnership both had, is now defunct and most people will probably not be getting their orders.
LMK if anyone has heard the same about this OR if you DID get your order.
-
You are right. A few months ago when Amazon and TRU parted ways we talked about this in several threads and it was front page news as well. I do not know the exact date but they have been separated for a while now.
