Other Toy Lines / Re: Transformers
« on: November 10, 2012, 11:40 PM »
Saw the Masterpiece Optimus todat at TRU and holy **** is that an incredible looking toy.  I had it in my hands twice trying to decide if I should buy it or not.  Finally passed but they had BOGOHO on TF Deluxe figures and they had a Prime FE Vehicon in stock so I snagged that an a Generations Shockwave.

But, man...if I run into the MP Prime next time I'm at TRU I may not be able to walk out without him.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Transformers Live Action Movies

He seems like the type that would think he's too serious/too good for a franchise like that.

Really?  He just did Ted and The Other Guys with Will Farrell.  I thought he kind of had a good perspective on his acting. He was good in The Fighter and The Departed, but he's also done Max Payne and Shooter, both pretty decent action films but not high art by any means.

I didn't hate Shia in Transformers, but I think we can expect a more serious action film for TF4 if Wahlberg is in as the lead.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Disney want to buy Hasbro?
« on: November 8, 2012, 11:13 AM »
I'm as big a Joe fan as I am Star Wars and I thought the first movie was pretty much a mess.  The CGI looked terrible in parts and I still can't take the sinking ice.

I've read the rumor about Disney and Hasbro, and the article saying it probably wasn't going to happen.

My first though when I heard this is that Hasbro had no reason to sell.  The Transformers movies where huge box office hits, they have a new Joe film coming up that they're pretty excited about, they just partnered with Rovio for the new Star Wars Angry Birds tabletop games, the Hub has been doing better and their sales of girls toys were up last quarter.  The Avengers toy line seems to have done okay for them even if some of the other Marvel movies haven't, and they have a ****-ton of upcoming movies to do figures for.

The announcement of new Star Wars movies, and the fact they just extended the contract for 2 years, seems like just the shot in the arm that franchise needed and Hasbro is poised to take huge advantage of that.  They also just opened the new Transformers 3D ride at Universal in CA and they're under construction on the new TF3D ride at Universal Orlando.

That's a lot of potential for the company to do really great things for the foreseeable future.  So why, even if Disney was offering up a deal, would the shareholders be interested in selling?  The company isn't really in trouble and with the chance that they could grow seems like a good thing.

On the other hand, Disney owning a toy company that has strong IPs like Transformers and MLP, and is already licensed to produce toys for LFL and Marvel, would only increase their bottom line.  But the TF and GI Joe films are at Paramount so they'd have additional things to work out there.  Plus, Disney does a lot of business with Mattel and I can't even begin to know what kinds of legal problems there could be by Disney owning Hasbro, Mattel's biggest competitor.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars Episode VII
« on: November 6, 2012, 09:57 AM »
I think the next SW film should be a true sequel to the Saga and they should handle the OT characters in one of two ways; set the film far enough in the future that they can cast Hamill, Fisher and Ford to basically hand off the new series to a younger generation of characters or base it off a scenario where we don’t need to see those original characters on film.

Maybe base the film on some other characters living in a post ROTJ universe, where we may hear about how Leia is leading the Senate or Luke is off teaching at the new Academy without actually showing them.  Or if they skipped ahead and the series focused around the children of the OT heroes.

One thing I don't want to see is Luke, Leia and/or Han recast with different actors.  I've seen some comparison between the new Abrams Star Trek and how Disney could handle a sequel to Star Wars but I call bull****.  Abrams didn’t really come up with a way to recast the actors as much as he wiped out four decades of continuity with a time travel film and started over from scratch.  I liked the movie, and I accept it because time travel isn't new to that universe, but I don’t want to see that with Star Wars.

I can accept the EU being thrown out and not being taken into consideration when it comes to sequels, but the six Saga films and the Clone Wars animated series, all of which came with Lucas’ input, should stay.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Doctor Who Toys
« on: November 6, 2012, 12:08 AM »
Not sure if you guys had heard, but there's a 3.75" line of Doctor Who action figures scheduled for next year.  Apparently, an Underground Toys employee tweeted a picture of two figures from the line and Jason from The Terrordrome posted it.  It's the new Doctor and a Dalek.

I don't know if I'd be in for any of the humans, but I'd love me some Dalek figures and maybe a Cyberman to face off with the droids.  Put a Slitheen in the Cantina or Jabba's Palace...and who doesn't want a Weeping Angel action figure?

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Do you think the reason we never saw Ahsoka in Episode III is that she is being saved for Episode VII.

It's because she hadn't been invented yet.

At the top of the forum there's an announcment board and there's a post in there about it.  My understanding is they're working to bring it back, but no idea when.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Disney Buys LFL; Announces Episode 7
« on: October 31, 2012, 09:25 AM »
I wouldn't count on unaltered versions of the OT anytime soon.  In one of the articles about this whole thing was info on distribution rights.  Fox has all distro rights until 2020 and they have rights for ANH "in perpetuity."  So unless Disney and Fox reach some type of deal, it could be a long wait, or never, that we get to see any type of Saga release out of Disney.

The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Disney Buys LFL; Announces Episode 7
« on: October 31, 2012, 01:12 AM »
I think I'm in the same camp with Jesse, I'm not really excited about all of this and right now I'm leaning towards not really liking it.

I agree that we'll probably get all three of the OT movies in 3D in 2014, it would be the perfect lead for a new film in 2015 just like the SE version in 1997 were for the 1999 release of TPM.

I think that when it comes to sequels, I'd like to see Hamill come back as Luke in the Obi-Wan role, mentor, wise sage that helps set things in motion.  But I don't really need Fisher or Ford unless they wanted to skip far enough ahead that the films could be about the Solo kids and Ben...which I'd be more than happy to watch.

I think the EU, as we know it, is gone.  I could see them keeping some of the characters but use them in new roles in the films.  I think the 6 Saga Films and probably the Clone Wars will be kept as continuity, since George had his hands directly on them, but the books, comics, etc?  Gone.

I know a lot of people are attached to the EU, but I don't necessarily have a problem with it being wiped out.  In general, the audience for new movies will be far greater than the audience for all the EU stuff.  Losing the Thrawn trilogy would kind of suck, and I enjoyed Legacy, but I stopped reading the novels a long time ago because I didn't care for a lot of it....except the Republic Commando series, and that's already been wiped out.

Haven't been around the net much since the announcement, just looked up the factual press release stuff, but my Twitter account blew up like it never has before and I can just imagine what's going down on some of the otheR Sites right now...plus all the non-collecting fan blogs.  I'm sure it's an equal mix of hope and "that mouse's dick is small but my ass still hurts."

I mentioned this over on the PSWCS list, but some of my concern is more selfish; I'm wondering if this new ownership will have any impact on fansites, fan clubs and groups like the 501st?  I'm wondering if we'll be able to continue our medallions for charity or if I can do another giveaway at the next Celebration without being arrested.  Should I expect a C&D?  I don't know.

I liked the trailer.  Just enough substance and tease on what else will be included.  This is the film I'm most looking forward to for next year.

Middle Earth / Re: The Hobbit - Toy Line
« on: October 24, 2012, 04:19 PM »
I can't think that smaller, measured releases would be a bad thing for this movie.  We've all seen what can happen when you go overboard on releases, not have the toy line take off and the whole thing collapses.  The last 4 or 5 years has had a huge string of toy lines follow that model.  If BD can keep interest, sell through well and then wait until things heat up for the next movie, they could potentially get a 4 year run out of their line of toys.

Joe Defender / Re: Look at what I just got or have thread
« on: October 18, 2012, 01:41 PM »
Picked up two figures at NYCC last weekend.  An upgrade vintage Cutter figure and GI Joe (Colton) from the Viper Lockdown set.  I was hoping to find GI Jane with him but she wasn't there, either missed her or they offloaded her before I found the bin.  I did see a Bombstrike, though, but passed cause I already have her.  There were some decent prices on loose figures if you spent time to dig around.

The Cutter figure needs a new O-Ring but I'm going to compare him to the one I already have and take the best parts and put together one whole figure.  The fig I aleady have has cracked elbows.  The new fig is pretty clean but I think I'll still sort it out and keep the best parts of the two.
