Title: Green Lantern Toys and Collectibles
Post by: Jeff on July 22, 2005, 02:00 PM
This thread is a place for Jeff to talk about how much he likes Green Lantern!

I'll kick it off with this awesome picture of the upcoming Salakk from the DC Direct Green Lantern Series 2!

Why would you bother starting a thread like this ::)  Don't these fit just as well with the DC Direct figures?

Any female GL's out there?   :P

Looking forward to seeing your collection Jeff.  I've seen you talk about your Lantern focus only collection, and that's always what I kind of wanted to do.  Of course, I always get sucked into going further into lines for some reason :).  I tried with a Spidey collection, and then joined the Marvel Legends ranks, getting my favorite characters from my childhood.  That's branched off a little further in some cases too.  The only DC Direct figure I have so far is Supes, and I've thought about focusing in on Superman and his world.  It would be nice if I could keep it in control and just have "one shelf" with things all together like that.  Anyways, look forward to seeing what your collection looks like.  So, do you read the GL comic as well these days?

Any female GL's out there?   :P

Let's see thee was Fatality, a GL-killer who hunted GL for revenge:

And GL Villianess Star Sapphire:

But no 7" scale female GLs though.

Anyways, look forward to seeing what your collection looks like. So, do you read the GL comic as well these days?

Absolutely.  I don't read too many comics anymore, but Geoff Johns is one of my favorite writers.  When they brought him on to re-launch GL and bring back Hal, it was like 10 years of bad DC History disappearing.  The finally figured out that going from 3600 to 1 GL was a bad move, they slowly added John and Guy back, now they're moving to a 7200 member GL Corps in September!  Woot!

As a kid, the alien GLs were always so cool to me (probably the ANH Cantina Scene to thank for that ;)).  I'm sooooo glad they are being introduced to the comics again!

The absolute coolest part about the upcoming 13" Scale DC Direct Hal Jordan is the removable mask!

Now, THAT is cool - a removable mask on a 12" scale figure and you can't even have any little holes on his face!

I have one of these.   :D

I have one of those too, but I store it in the camping stuff away from the rest of the collection.  :P

That removable mask feature looks pretty good, and seems to be pulled off well (no holes or visible things like that).  Nice stuff there.  From the looks of this thread so far (which has taken off quickly by the way :P), it looks like your collection is pretty spiffy Jeff...looking forward to seeing some pics.  Just to add another pic, here is one of the two Green Lanterns I have :)(the other being a JLU version)

Always enjoyed that Super Powers line when I was a kid.  I'm trying to track down a Superman on ebay, hopefully somewhat cheaply.  The one from my childhood didn't quite make it :).

Here's the photos I promised:

We start off with a general overview of my little Green Lantern mini-shrine...

clicky on all the pics for a larger view  ;)

(http://www.jedidefender.com/jsmentek/photos/greenlantern/tn_glshrine.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/image.pl?http://www.jedidefender.com/jsmentek/photos/greenlantern/glshrine.jpg)

The top shelf is my DC Direct Green Lantern PVC figure sets:

(http://www.jedidefender.com/jsmentek/photos/greenlantern/tn_glpvc.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/image.pl?http://www.jedidefender.com/jsmentek/photos/greenlantern/glpvc.jpg)

From L to R, that's Chaselon, Sinestro (GL Costume), Tomar Re, Abin Sur, Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, Ganthet, Salakk, John Stewart, Kilowog, Katma Tui, Alan Scott, Kyle Rayner, and Jade.

Next, we have my Green Lantern Power Battery Shelf:

(http://www.jedidefender.com/jsmentek/photos/greenlantern/tn_glfigure.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/image.pl?http://www.jedidefender.com/jsmentek/photos/greenlantern/glfigure.jpg)

Again from R to L, my 9" Hasbro DC Hal Jordan, my Hal Jordan Mini-Bust, my DCD Power Battery Prop Replica, Super Powers Hal Jordan.  In the front, my Hasbro TJ/JLA Kyle, Hal (Custom), and Parallax, and finally my DCD Pocket Heroes.

And a bit of a Close-Up:

(http://www.jedidefender.com/jsmentek/photos/greenlantern/tn_glpocket.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/image.pl?http://www.jedidefender.com/jsmentek/photos/greenlantern/glpocket.jpg)

Finally, my DCD Action Figure Shelf:

(http://www.jedidefender.com/jsmentek/photos/greenlantern/tn_gldcdshelf.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/image.pl?http://www.jedidefender.com/jsmentek/photos/greenlantern/gldcdshelf.jpg)

From L to R - Guy Gardner, [Kid Flash = hiding behind Guy], Sinestro, Tomar Re, Hal Jordan (Hard Traveling Hero Era), Kyle Rayner, Hal Jordan (Classic Costume), Kilowog, Parallax, and John Stewart.

(yeah, there's a couple Flashes on the shelf - if it weren't for the space angle of GL, Barry Allen would be my favorite DC Icon  ;))

Wow, a heck of a collection you have there Jeff...looks nice.  I always think it is neat seeing a character focused collection like that.  It inspires me to try and do something like that with Superman, we'll have to see.  Some great pieces in there though...I'll have to admit, with all your Green Lantern talk lately, it has tempted me to pick up the (relaunched) comic when I visit the shop today, just to see what its like.  My experience with GL has mainly been through JLA, but now I'm more curious :P.  Nice Christmas gift from your wife there too, that's cool and I'm sure it holds a lot of meaning that she thought of you when picking that out.  Anyways, great collection, thanks for sharing.  I like the Flash figures incorporated too, always a fan of the Flash as well...and to me, he sort of "goes with" GL in a way too.

I held Hal Jordan in my hands yesterday, and at a pretty good price.  But I didn't buy it.  Not sure if I'll regret that or not.

I was in a collectibles shop and they had a fair number of older DC Direct figures but they were pricey ($24.99 each).  I wasn't tempted to pay that price, but it was fun to look at them as they brought back a lot of memories.  I've always been a Marvel type, but I really read an awful lot of DC when we were out at the cousin's cabin at the lake in the summer.  Nice memories. :)

Here's another GL, the "First Appearance" version.  Planning on picking this one up Jeff (or maybe you already have it and I missed it in your pics above)?  I've been thinking about ordering the FA Superman from this wave, and slowly starting on a "Supes Shelf" similar to what you've done with GL.  It might do me good to focus in on a particular (favorite) character to keep things in line a bit :P.

Not quite sure yet...  My GL focus tends to go more towards the Silver Age and Hal Jordan stuff.  I've got a few Kyle things and a few Golden Age Alan Scott things, but the majority of what I have is from the Silver Age GLCorps stuff.

I haven't totally crossed that figure off my list though... maybe if I can find one cheap I'd grab him.   ;)

In other GL news, I picked up this set at Target over the weekend!

$10 for 3 GL figures is a great deal!  Also of note, they feature the 2006 "DC SuperHeroes" branding on the packaging...

Nice to hear those new JL figures are showing up, hopefully our Target will have them as well sometime soon.  I definitely want to pick up the set with Luthor (and other "Injustice Gang"), probably the "Justice Lords" pack, and possibly the Lantern one as well.  I agree, 3 figures for $10 is a good deal to me too.

Action Figure Insider has pics of a potential "holy grail" for Green Lantern collectors, a "gift exclusive" JLU Hal Jordan figure.  You can learn more about it (and see pics)HERE (http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/features/MattelJLUHal.shtml).  Sounds like there is only 100 made, given as gifts to people at Warner Bros. Animated, DC Comics, and Mattel.  Many a frustrated collector over this figure I'm guessing.

I saw that picture.  It sucks if they really did destroy that head mold and have no intention of ever releasing it to the masses.  Another case of Mattel saying "SCREW YOU" to it's customers.  I wish they would go out of business.

Yeah... only I'll buy it in a few years after Mattel finally pisses off the JLA/DC Collectors like they did to the He-Man Collectors or any incarnation of Batman really.

Eventually someone will dump their colection on the cheap out of frustration OR Mattel will re-issue him.  Either way, It'll be a lot cheaper than it is now...  ;)

I have a case of all the dc minimates coming in so if your interested I'm sure I could hook you up.  Hal is in the first set.  I just got the new green lantern series 2 in yesterday as well.  I gotta just go pick it up.  I hope my series 1 showed as well.  Like Jaff I'm also a big fan of GL but so far my collection isn't as big.  But I didn't see kingdom come GL in there. Oh and as well I do have series 1 who who from dc.  The GL figure in that one is when Hal first gets the ring (passing of the tourch kinda thing)  if you like marvel figure factory you'll love dc who who.  Smaller but better looking figures.

In December, DC Direct gives us... G'nort!   :o

I never thought he'd make the cut for a figure... I like Green Lanterns and everything, but he may be the first "never before made" character I pass on.   :P

Also, December gives us a new box set with a new Tomar Re, Abin Sur, and battle-damaged Manhunter!  :)

And a teaser image for Blackest Night Series 2!   ;D  ;D

Looks like another GL John Stewart, a member of the Indigo Corps, Kryb (creepy!), and another Black Lantern (J'onn?).

Sooo, sooo, sooooooo good.  :)

Depending on how their scale is with DCUC, I might pick some of them up.  Definitely interested in some of the different Lantern Corps.  Hopefully one of the Red Lanterns come packed with Rage Kitty.

Kryb is beyond creepy, especially in the book.  The last two issues of GLC she was particularly nasty.

And they went with Saint Walker's first look, instead of the tentacle look he's been sporting the last couple of issues.  Wonder if that will change.

I won't spoil who the first Black Lantern is supposed to be for anyone who doesn't know (based on series 1 solicits, he hasn't been revealed yet in the books), but I can't wait until Blackest Night starts.  GL and GLC are two of the best books DC has going for them now.

Good idea, that kitty is evil...  it's be nice to get him as a pack-in someplace.

Kryb is beyond creepy, especially in the book.  The last two issues of GLC she was particularly nasty.

Yeah, that GLC arc is probably what landed her in S2 instead of someone like Arkillo or Mongul.  She's creep, that's for sure - makes me wonder if she'll come with any "babies" to stick in that cage of hers.   :-X

And they went with Saint Walker's first look, instead of the tentacle look he's been sporting the last couple of issues.  Wonder if that will change.

I have heard that he may end up with a retooled head to reflect that... no guarantees though.

I can't wait until Blackest Night starts.  GL and GLC are two of the best books DC has going for them now.

Agreed.  I can't believe how this story arc has been building since Rebirth... all the pieces just keep getting lined up, I just hope they can carry the momentum past BN and into 2010 and beyond.

Just saw these at Fwoosh!

New SDCC exclusive rainbow Hal Jordan figures from DC Direct - Green, Red, Yellow, Orange, and Blue.  Each limited to 1500 and each available on a different day of SDCC.

Man, I hope they do these in a box set or something in the future because I can't imagine what they will cost on eBay.   :'(

Wow, aside from being a huge pain to pick up obviously, that is a pretty cool "set" of figures.  I've really been enjoying the GL comic lately, and if I was a big DC Direct collector (and had the funds) I'd be after this too.  Looks pretty nifty, but that's going to be a lot of work to get the whole set.  Like you said, the ebay prices could be scary.

Blackest Night waves 3 and 4 revealed:

Wave #3
- Black Lantern Aquaman 6.75"
- Green Lantern Arisia with power battery 6.5"
- Star Sapphire with power battery 6.625"
- Larfleeze The Orange Lantern with Glomulus and power battery 7" GLOMULUS is 2.375"

Wave #4
- Black Lantern Firestorm 6.75" to top of head (helmet increases height)
- Green Lantern Kyle Raynor with power battery 6.75"
- Black Hand with Batman skull 6.75"
- Wonder Woman 6.625" to top of head (hair increases height)

I'm down for Larfleeze (as well as previously shown Saint Walker, Atrocitus, Kryb and Indigo).  It'll be easier to fudge the scale with DCUC with the aliens than the human / zombies.  Plus John Stewart is rumored to be coming in DCUC wave 11 and you know Kyle will show up sometime (my guess is Black Hand and Star Sapphire will too).
Title: Re: Green Lantern Toys and Collectibles

I think I can pass on Black Hand and Star Sapphire sinceI already have the DCD GL versions of those, but the rest I will gladly pick up.  :)

Larfleeze is great (love Glomulus!) and it's nice to see a new Kyle mixed in there too.

It's interesting that WW is mentioned but not shown... potential spoiler or just not ready for picture day?  Hmmm...

Seeing these waves makes me realize how many holes there still are - seeing the new Kyle and Arisia makes me realize that we definitely now need Sorianik Natu and Sodom Yat to go with them.

And what about Katma Tui?  I'm really hoping that the rumored DCUC version will fit in with the DCD stuff.

Just out of curiosity, did anyone have luck (or have someone try) getting a hold of DC Direct's Hal Jordan collection at SDCC (with the various rings/colors)?  It looked really cool, but from what I read it was a pain to try to get them all.

Pain doesnt even describe it. I could only get 2 of the 5, green and red.

I've been watching ebay auctions, seems to be lots of them out there at $60 each ($300 for the set).  Too rich for me at the moment...  guess I'll hope that DCD goes for a nice box set of the Red/Yellow/Blue/Orange at some point.

Oh, and as long as I'm here - I picked up GL: First Flight on DVD yesterday (I went with the dlx 2-disc set), but couldn't get myself to pay the extra $4 to get the DCIH figure set at Best Buy.  It was tempting, but it would have opened the DCIH door, so I had to pass...

Again, opening a door here, but I notice that our local Target has the Infinite Heroes 3 packs (specifically, the Green Lantern/Green Arrow/Black Canary set) on clearance for $7-$8 right now.  I have a handful of these figures, and they are nice as durable toys I guess, but I do wish the quality was a little bit better (more like miniature DCUC, if possible).  Otherwise, not too bad.

I admire your restraint Jeff.  I could use more of that when toy shopping :).  Sort of off topic, but what did you think of the GL movie (if you've had a chance to watch it yet).  I've got one on the way from Amazon (along with 3 GL TPBs), definitely looking forward to seeing it.

I thought it was a great movie.  Yes, they changed a bit of the story (Sinestro Corps origin) and some of the character appearances (Boodikka, Abin Sur), but it was still a fun ride and an interesting spin on the GLC characters.

The voice work was great though - Victor Garber was fantastic as Sinestro.  Just the right amount of anger and arrogance in his voice.  The SVU Guy (Meloni? his name escapes me) did a nice job as Hal too.

I was worried I was going to be one of the "GAh! They changed it!" fanboys, but I liked it quite a bit.  I've liked pretty much all the DC Animation movies though.  Doomsday was a bit slow, but it was the first try so I cut them some slack.  New Frontier was great - nice adaptation of the comic.  I'm looking forward to Superman/Batman: Public Enemies next.

I picked up the 2 disc First Flight with figure yesterday (my Best Buy just so conveniently happened to not have any 2 disc sets without the figure ::)) but I'm really glad I picked it up. Great figure, about the same height as a SW fig with the same articulation. Much better than the other DCIU figures I've looked at in stores. Looks awful next to a Marvel Universe figure though. Now I want more of these, so it's probably a good thing you passed on the figure Jeff.

I will be getting the Disc and Figure combo IF the figure is better than the regular release.  If not, I'll just grab the Disc.  The Infinite Universe figs have/had so much potential.

I think these are supposed to be shown at Toy Fair as well, but IGN has pics up of the next wave of Blackest Night figures (http://comics.ign.com/articles/106/1069239p1.html).  I won't list them here just in case some people haven't read the last couple issues or something, but they look really nice.  Part of me wishes I would have been collecting this subline in its entirety, as they've really looked nice - not that I need something else to buy ;).

Picked this one up shortly after Christmas (or, rather, one of my boys did).  Nifty addition to the line.  I was glad to see them add another hero and a few more villians (Riddler, Two-Face) to the mix.

I cancelled my order for Blackest Night Wonder Woman.  After seeing the pics, I decided she was not worth the $15.  I will be placing an order for Star Saphire Wonder Woman though and maybe the Blue Lantern Flash.  He looks sweet.  Is Hal Jordan much different from the earlier DCU release?

Yeah, I'd be all over those if I had any sort of realistic chance to get them for $25 or less.  Since I don't, I'll just add them to the "stuff to buy after I win the lottery" list.  :P

Does anyone else think the directions on how to get these at SDCC are ridiculous?  Seriously, do you need a six step process to randomly select who can buy your merchandise?  Glad I'm not into these as I would seriously consider passing on them just on principle.

They were the worst exclusive to get at SDCC, worse than the Mattel lines. DC Direct didnt even sell them at their booth. You had to go to the extremely small Graphitti Designs booth to get the figures.  It was a mobscene and people were cutting and fighting.  I got Green and Red Lanterns last time and will not try again.

Get ready for a ton GL stuff next year, the way this press release sounds (http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/102080-wb-and-mattel-team-on-green-lantern).  Could make for some cool toys, if done right.  Although comic readers/fans are likely already GL fans, I hope the movie can elevate the character the way Iron Man did that for Tony Stark/IM.
Title: Mattel Green Lantern Movie Figures
Post by: Brian on October 23, 2010, 05:32 PM
I guess this might fit in more with "GL Movie" than GL Classics, but since that isn't until next year I'll put it here.  It looks like a Target computer list has leaked with some stuff for next year's GL movie (courtesy of a post on the Fwoosh forums (http://thefwoosh.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=65722&start=1185):

087062295--GL TGT Ring Blast Lantern $29.99
087062296--GL TGT Light up Power $19.99
087062297--GL TGT Basic Fig w/Light $9.99
087062298--GL Power Slingers Asst. $12.99
087062299--GL Galactic Scale Fig. $19.99
087062301--GL Fall Basic Fig 4-pack $27.99
087062302--GL 6 inch Movie Master $15.99
087062303--GL Ring Blast Jet $39.99
087062304--GL Final Showdown $19.99
087062305--GL Colossal Cannon $29.99
087062306--GL Battle Shifters $11.99
087062307--GL Basic Fig. Asst. $6.99

Although it is tough to tell for sure, with all the indications that there would be a "big deal" going on with the Infinite Heroes line and the GL Movie, it is nice to see that they have apparently ditched the 5" scale nonsense.  It looks like there is the regular movie line (for collectors and kiddos alike) in the 3 3/4" scale, and then the 6" Movie Masters line more for the collectors.  Could really be a neat line, and the potential to be lots of fun for kids too.
