Title: 2019 TVC Poe Dameron's X-Wing Fighter
Post by: Jeff on September 18, 2019, 09:48 AM
Yakface with the scoop (https://yakfaceforums.com/main/2019/09/18/tvc-poe-damerons-x-wing-revealed/).

Once again, due to our policy of playing nice with Hasbro PR, I can't post any pictures here... but feel free to jump on over to Yak and check it out while you can.

I'm happy to see a sequel trilogy TVC vehicle. Makes me feel like maybe it'd be worth jumping into that trilogy as a collection. The lack of vehicles has been the biggest reason for keeping me from collecting from the sequels. I really like the movies, I just don't want to jump in unless the line is going to continue. This gives me some hope about that.

I assume this is this just a repainted version of an X-Wing we bought five years ago for $50?

I hope not.  For that price point I expect it to be greatly improved!

Looks all new to me.  I can't imagine Hasbro charging $100 for a re-hashed X-Wing.

All that said, I bet we get to buy Episode VII and VIII versions of his X-Wing using this mold down the line...

From what I've read this is bigger than the other Poe X-Wings. And has more detail. Droid socket? Etc. But $100 is too much. Especially with a $100 Luke X-Wing on the shelf too. I'm finally bowing out on having to have everything in Vintage Collection packaging.

What an amazing looking toy. Looks to be all new, and to scale with 3.75 inch figures, or at least as to-scale as the mid-00s X-Wings and TIE Fighters were.

If I weren't trying to sell off my 3.75 inch stuff, I'd buy one.

Very cool 8)

Really nice to see a completely new ship from TVC, particularly one from the new films.  This will definitely be on my want list...  Is this supposed to come out on “Triple Force Friday”?

Not a sequel trilogy guy really, but it's good they are making this now.  Who knows how anyone will feel about the sequels a year 5 months from now?  This might be our only chance.  Of course, they probably should've made one 2 years ago and been releasing a repaint right now.

I'll get one when it hits Ross.  >:D

Ha, there's no Ross here.  :P

All initial waves end up at Ross and Kohls. No one is going to buy up these. They will set for a year and be closed out.

Love that idea. Vehicles are tough for me. I love getting them, and always go after the OT ones, but I find I have trouble finding display space for the rest. I've tried to stick to things released in the Vintage Collection line. All that said, I kind of like the looks of this so far, and kind of want to pick it up. Not sure if I like it $100 worth, but we'll see.

It will be different to see where vehicles go once the "saga", at least the Skywalker side of it, wraps up. I mean, have we seen our last release of things like the Falcon in 3 3/4" scale - at least for awhile? Will we just see 1-2 vehicles per year as 6" becomes the primary focus? Or will this new 5" line going to see all the vehicles going forward?

It looks pretty cool.  And the deco on this fighter is actually a lot like an X-wing that was on the first poster that leaked out.

I really like this for some reason. I know we have seen our share of X-Wings over the years, but I like that the sequel trilogy is finally getting a Vintage Collection quality vehicle of their own. Weird that this is kind of the only Rise of Skywalker vehicle we are seeing for now, aside from Galaxy of Adventures or LEGO.

Of all the new TVC vehicles, this one has me excited the most.  It’s a completely new vehicle and has a flashy paint job.  Personally, I wish it was Poe’s black X-Wing, but I could see that being a repaint down the road.

It’s funny, but I’ve hit several Walmart and Target stores this morning and no Poe X-Wings!  One Walmart hadn’t even planned to set up the SW stuff yet...  Found all the Vintage figures and the Black Series first editions though.  Time to order this via Amazon and save the hassle of driving all over ;D

As of this morning amazon had them for $89.99 as well.  I’m thinking this will hit $50 at some point before Christmas.  I’m going to wait for now.

After failing to find Poe’s X-Wing at multiple Walmart’s and Targets, I ordered it on Amazon.  The price was at retail, I have free prime shipping, and they included a small discount coupon...  Not bad.  Then I saw Corman’s post about the X-Wing being at Barnes and Noble, so I went and checked my local store and there it was.  I still get an educators discount there, which knocked 20% off the price, so I got the X-Wing for a little over $86 :) By then it was too late to cancel the Amazon X-Wing order. I’m not sure if I’ll hang onto it or return it when it comes.

Have you guys used the Kohl's return process for Amazon?   Its pretty slick.

I ordered the carbonized Sith Trooper, but am less than 50% likely to keep it.  Makes it easy to check something out and return it without serious hassles.

Has anyone opened their Poe X-Wing yet? I’m curious to hear what everyone thinks about it...

I opened mine last night and it is an impressive and highly detailed piece. Certainly one of the best X-Wings done for the Star Wars line to date.  Really, it’s more of a model than a toy and totally designed for the discerning adult collector rather than a child. It is not simply a repaint of the smallish TFA X-Wing toy. The ship is about the same size as the large OT X-Wing, so as can be seen in the box photos, it’s under-scaled, but still pretty large overall. The construction is pretty solid and the wing extension mechanism seems fairly robust.  The wings don’t seem to be too prone to warping, but there is a slight sag to them.  Perhaps flying or tightening a couple screws might fix that... The guns may require some bending to get into the proper parallel position when the wings are closed.  The paint work over the entire model is excellent and the weathering (basically a panel lines highlighting and wash) is just right.

The awesome part with this model is the attention to detail and variety of working features.  The cockpit has all the controls detailed, including a full control stick and pilot’s seat. The instrument hood swings up so a figure can be inserted easily. The TVC Poe Dameron figure fits in easily - as this is a large figure, I would suspect most other pilots will fit.  Behind the cockpit, A cover pulls off over the droid socket to allow one to insert a droid figure. Either a BB-8 figure or full R2 unit figure can fit.  The upper port engine has an opening access panel. Under the fuselage, the cargo compartment opens and the boarding ladder is stored there.  The ladder can be removed and mounted in a couple small holes under the fuselage so a pilot can “climb” into the ship.  The landing gear (nose & main gears) are fully retractable, fold up into their respective bays, and are fully covered by the bay doors. The main gears are designed to rotate to fit into their bay properly.  It’s a neat feature, but the plastic used seems a tad soft and I wonder how long they will hold up in the long run...

Overall, I am very impressed with this model.  It’s great to have a large and highly-detailed X-Wing model as well as a properly-done starfighter from the Sequel Trilogy.  Even if you’re not wild about the new films, this X-Wing is worth picking up  ;D

I received mine today and I love it!  The detail is amazing!  I was able to put both an R2-D2 in the droid slot as well as a BB-8.  For an R2, you will want to use one that's a little smaller, the "I was shot by Darth Vader in ANH" version I have is too big, but the TFA BB-8 I have fits perfectly!

There's a ton of detail on this, one of the engine nacelles opens to reveal the engine detail, the landing gear are foldable, really detailed although the two rear skids are a bit tough to get out.  The cockpit has a yoke for the pilot to hold onto, there's even a ladder hidden in a hatch on the bottom of the fighter for the pilot to climb into the cockpit with!

I compared it with the TRU exclusive Poe's X-wing with the booster on the back and it's about 10% bigger.  My guess is that it's to scale with the Luke's X-wing, which I've had no problem with in the previous sculpt!

There are two flat buttons to put the S-foils in attack position and to return them to normal flight respectively.  Both ate unobtrusive.

Over all this is a great piece for any collection!  My only gripe is that it is probably about $20 too expensive.  I put it on par with the Imperial Tank and think they should be priced the same.

One issue with mine is the bottom left turret is rotated about 45 degrees off-center. I've seen some similar issues from others that have had this. Since I bought on Amazon, I'm tempted to go the replace item route, and swap out the turret from the replacement. Has anyone ever returned/replaced Star Wars items through Amazon? Do you have an overlap, or do you have to send yours in first? I had contacted Hasbro directly, and they wanted me to send it in first and wait for a replacement. I'd rather not have to deal with it twice though.

$99.99 but they have $25.00 off of $100... someone on Rebelscum suggested adding this $1 item to get into that $25 off range...

https://www.target.com/p/american-plastic-toys-inc-castle-mold/-/A-54204434

So that brought it down to $76... toss in a 5% off on the Red Card, a 5% off bonus Red Card offer they mailed me, and using a $10 gift card from the TVC figures I bought Friday, it was $62 and change after tax, shipped.

My X-Wing had the off-center cannon as well, but I was able to twist it into the correct position with a pair of pliers.

However, Amazon also has an excellent return/refund policy that is very easy to use and very generous.  I actually just did a return for a Star Wars Black Series 6” Emperor Palpatine & Throne set where the box came severely damaged in shipping.  Under the listing for an order, there is a button for returns that will give you several choices, including returning an item for a refund, return and replace an item, etc.  If you choose to return and replace an item, Amazon will provide you a QR code. You can then take the returning item to a Kohl’s or UPS store, show them the QR code and they will pack and ship the item at no cost to you.  When you choose the return/replace option, Amazon will automatically send you a replacement item, frequently shipping that same day.  I did the return/replace option for the Emperor figure on Friday and the replacement is arriving today.

Between the Tank, Skiff, Barge, and now this it seems like they are really putting in the effort into these TVC vehicles. Really hoping we’ll see the Mandalorian’s ship next year.

Got my opener!

Okay. This is an absolutely beautiful ship. However, I have gripes;

1) Mine came with a messed up cannon. It's assembled incorrectly and the tip is rotated 90 degrees, horizontal, as opposed to the rest that are vertical.

2) I think it's been mentioned that the landing gear are shoddy. Not a huge deal breaker, but a tad disappointing.

Still, beautiful ship. Thumbs up and major kudos to the designers.  ;)
