Title: Attacktix
Post by: Scott on December 7, 2004, 04:48 PM
So, one of the biggest mysteries about the upcoming Return of the Sith swag is the mysterious new Hasbro collectible called Attacktix. We've received some word on what's in store!

Attacktix is a new game created by Hasbro through Wizard of the Coast. Think of this as a merging of the Star Wars Minis and Heroclix with some cool play features to go along for the ride.

The Return of the Sith game will debut next spring and will feature 3" figures. These will not be the same scale as 3-3/4" figures. Like the Miniatures, expect to see Common/Rare/Very-Rare assortment ratios and shipped in Multi-Packs with closed cartons.

The Attacktix figures will have small bases with statistics (like Heroclix) and come with large super deformed spring-loaded weapons. The goal will be to knock over the opposing figures or through close proximity attacks. There is no real board or map, just taking turns doing battle

If all goes well, look for Original Trilogy figures later in the year and keep checking JediDefender for continuing Attacktix coverage
 :)

I'll have to wait 'til I see them in person to decide what I'm gonna do.  Most of us aren't fans of "action features" really, so the firing blasters and slashing lightsabers on these figures may be somewhat of a turn off.  Not to mention that most of us probably won't want to actually "play the game" with these things either, beyond just a few random targeting practice sessions.

So these will live or die based likely on their "collectibility" with the more adult crowd, I'd imagine.  If they're nicely detailed, have a good range of characters, are affordable, and aren't too much of a headache to collect (exclusives, pack-ins, etc), then I think they'll do OK.  But if WOTC mostly tries to market them as a game for the younger kids, then they might be in trouble...

I probably won't buy the ROTS ones, but if an OT series comes out later on, I'll definitely be interested.

I was wondering if and when there would be a HeroClix-like set of figures developed.  I've never played any of the games, so I don't see me doing it now.  Like you said Matt, I think the collectibility will determine MY interest in picking these up.  That being said, I haven't "collected" the Rebel Storm line either, but rhave epeatedly become interested, simply because of how people have (for the most part) raved about their impressive detailing.  That's what would interest me - nice display pieces.

Since these are also made by WotC I would guess the level of detail will be the same.  They are a bit bigger in scale but smaller than Hasbro figures.

The new feature that sets it apart from Clix is the added projectile weapons

These weapons certainly have me curious.  They could either add a neat finishing touch to the figures, or simply overwhelm them and look ridiculous.  Hmmm...  Can't wait to see.

General Grievous
General Grevious Bodyguard
Nute Gunray
Neimodian Solider
Chewbacca
Tarfful
Wookiee Soldier
Count Dooku/Tyranus
Chancellor Palpatine
Emperor Palpatine
Anakin Skywalker
Darth Vader (Mustafar Duel)
Darth Vader
Bail Organa
Padme Skywalker
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi Wan Kenobi (Mustafar Duel)
Mace Windu
Shaak Ti
Ki Adi Mundi
Agen Kolar
Yoda
V-Wing Pilot
Clone Commaner Cody
Clone Commander Greers (Kashyyk)
Clone Trooper (Republic)
Clone Trooper (Separatist)
Battle Droid
Super Battle Droid

Darth Vader (Mustafar Duel) has some significance, I would guess, to speculators out there. Could this mean Anakin takes the name Darth Vader before he dons the armor? Also note the Clone Troopers have been divided in to Republic and Separatist factions.

Still need to see some pix of these before I decide if I'm gonna commit to yet another line.  I might pass on the ROTS ones, but the OT ones that follow will be tough to forego, probably...

Nice list there.   ;)

Still need to see some pix of these before I decide if I'm gonna commit to yet another line.

Well, I was thinking along the same lines, wait until I see them to decide if I want them or not.

Now that I've seen them (pictures of a Wookiee, Vader, Chewie, Shaak Ti, General, and Obi-Wan are in the newest Insider #80), I'm not that impressed.  (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/Themes/classic/images/post/thumbdown.gif)

They kind of look like larger versions of the HeroClix figurines, with giant over-sized feet/hands (kind like the Jedi Force figures), limited articulation, and big-ass weapons/action features.  Jedi have some sort of launching force deal and Grevious has a HUGE honkin'  missile launcher.   ::)

Once you add in the fact that it sounds like they will be packed like regular gaming peices (with Rares and Very Rares), this line just doesn't do much for me.  They won't blend in with the figures I have now and I don't really want to play the game, so I guess it's a total turn-off for me.

So, I'll happily pass on these.   :)

I was waiting to see what they would look like as well Jeff, and after receiving Insider this past Monday, I think I'm going to take a pass as well.  They are a "different" type of collectible, but there are other lines that I enjoy better.  The "deformed-ness" of them is a little different too, because many figures have just one gigantic hand or weapon, not symmetrical or anything (like the Chewie picture for example).  I'm guessing these are fairly small?  I don't really know much about lines like this but I always thought they were more on the wee side.  I might try to pick up a Chewbacca if possible, but otherwise I have enough other Star Wars stuff to spend my money on this year I think.

Thanks Brian, I am a subscriber, but as a Canadian, I have to wait a little longer to see the Insider ;)

I think I can basically go with what Jeff said.  Add to that watching the frustration over WOTC stuff and the fact I already spend waaaaaaaay too much money and these are unlikely to show in Canada, I'll be giving them the pass too.

The Vader pictured looks interesting, so if anyone gets into these and is looking to unload him, I'd take it off their hands.   ;)

Hmmmm, I was fairly interested in these upon first hearing about them. But now that I've seen some of them, uhhh, not so much. I'll probably be passing on these just because of all the other things I'd rather spend the money on.

Wouldn't these be competing in the same market as Wizards' minis?
Title: Re: Attacktix

Wizards is making both of them
Title: Re: Attacktix
Post by: Jesse James on January 12, 2005, 10:49 PM
And I'd compare this to the "kiddie" (Galactic Heroes and things) lines and the 3.75" line more than competition...  Both vying for the same dollars, but aimed at different people...

Not sure how SMART a move that is myself, but I think that's what they're aiming for.  The SWMB rules, while atually toned down in complexity from other MB games, are still pretty complex for novice gamers and kids.

This Attacktix won't be though...  I don't think it's gonna be a big hit myself, but I just think Hasbro's dipping their quill into too many inkwells at this point is all.

This is an excellent point Jesse, and something I've been thinking about lately too.  It just seems like there is so much Star Wars product out there at this point.  Not that I'm complaining necessarily, and I'm glad all the different lines are there for those who want to collect them, but it does get a little overwhelming.

Yeah, I'm having that 1983-ish, 1997-ish, and 1999-ish feeling all over again as far as Star Wars goes.

They seemed to be able to control themselves when E2 rolled around, and the DVD's I feel they wanted to blitz a little but still not go overboard...  Clone Wars was a nicely handled "event" too.

Now though, you can see them going ape**** with marketing on this...  The last great push I'd say.  Or it feels that way anyhow.

And that MPH just looks like a turd with a Vader helmet...  God they'll stick that Vader on anything this year, you know it.

One of the most innovative additions to the boys action aisle this year will be the debut of a new brand called ATTACKTIX.  Launching with Star Wars: Episode III toys, ATTACKTIX is a battle figure game that combines great action figures with kinetic battling features.

Each figure comes on a base that contains all of the information that a trading card might include, such as speed, defense, point value and special powers unique to that character.

The goal of the game is simple: be the last one standing; but beyond that there are nearly unlimited strategies.  To begin, kids select how many points each squad should start out with, pick their squads and put them into formation.  On each turn, kids will move their figures across the table (counting distance using a patented clicking wheel in the base), and then attack with features like slashing lightsabers, firing projectiles and others.  When the figures are knocked over, their special powers come into play and influence the game.  For example, granting another one of your figures an attack or bringing back a figure who may have been previously defeated.

The game is easy to play, but difficult to master, with all of the complexity of a trading card game.  ATTACKTIX is being launched with the release of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, but will include other Star Wars figures from past movies in the future.

Eh, I still have to see them in person.  But considering how much I dig anything remotely "miniature", I'll probably cave when the OT set gets released, and nab those.  Definitely won't be "gaming" with them though.   ;)

I've no interest in these at all but thought I needed to post something here for the sake of those that are interested.  In the Canadian packaged (=trilogo) basic figures (3 3/4") there is an insert showing lots of the coming toys.  For the most part, nothing that hasn't been seen before, but part of the pictured stuff is in the Attacktix line.

They show pictures of the starter set shown below, though not the identical shot.  They also indicate it comes with 1 secret figure.  I've not seen that elsewhere, though I could have easily missed it.  They show a silhouette of the figure, but I don't have a scanner handy, so can't get the image for you.

Did any of you guys get some for free at the WM tent event?  My wife and picked up a few to give to her kids at school.  After playing with them we actually think they're not for kids because the projectile fires pretty hard.  You might have to wear some protective googles.   :P

Today for the first time I looked these over.  I think in theory the idea is OK Who didn't play war with green army men when they were kids, heck, I even did it with my vintage figures.  However, I just don't see these appealing to anyone.  There's an oversaturation of product on the market sometimes within the same scale.

I'm a little annoyed that I didn't know about the freebies with this.  I've gone through 3 different tents now, and stopped by the Attacktix booth each time, but didn't get offered jack.  Had I known, I would've at least politely inquired into the matter.  Oh well.  Probably better if I didn't even get one, 'cause you all know damned well what that would lead to...  ;)

But after seeing them all over the place the last few days, I'm not overly impressed with them as collectibles (since I obviously wouldn't be "gaming" with them), so that's a good thing as it's one line that I won't have to delve into (for once).  Phew!

I got Bail, Wookie Scout, Mace, Plo Koon, Agen and Clone Trooper.
Plo had a silver base... chase figure?
I`ll pick up a booster here and there for the hell of it to see who I can get. I didn`t
get ANY bad guys at all!

Oh, and they do shoot pretty darn hard!

This is probably one of those lines that I'll keep a random eye on eBay later on down the road, for a real cheap, complete set.  If I see anything along those lines, I'll probably bite on it, if not, I'll probably pass.

But when they put out the Original Trilogy Attacktix soon, that's gonna be a lot tougher to refrain from...  :-\

Yes that is a chase.  I also heard they have ones with a gold base.

The thing that confuses me is on the booster box it says you get a common, rare, and very rare.  I have no idea which is which, lol.   ???

I got a TRU mailer in my mail box today.
There is a $10.00 off $50.00 card on the front, and inside there is an ad
for the attacktix stuff.
You buy a starter set, and get a booster pack for free!
Starts April 10th and good through the 30th.
Also, free Lego SW mini building set with Lego purchase of 14.99 or more.

I still don`t know how you know what ones are rare or not, lol.
I just go under the assumption that all the good ones are rare, hehe.

Went to TRU this morning to get the starter and free booster pack.
I got another booster as well. Only got 1 double from what I pulled
the other day, Bail.
Got Chewie, Shaak Ti, SBD, BD, Clone Trooper, N. Guardian, & Bail.
At least I have a few bad guys now!

I bit my lip on this one, but there were a few chromes on ebay I picked up yesterday for about $7(incl. S&H)

I'm hearing these are supposedly only 2 per case?  Could even the common chromes be kinda HTF?

And also, naturally would the chrome ultra rares be EXTREMELY HTF? I may take a chance and plunk a couple $ down on a few and see what happens?????

For those of you picking up this line, what do you think of it?  I'm personally likely staying away from it, but I have been watching a few ebay auctions for the Chewbacca figure.  I wouldn't mind having that one at least.  Of course, on there, he is considered "super ultra uber rare" ;), but I'm guessing these figures aren't too expensive individually?  Is there a price that is probably "too much" to pay for this?  I know it all depends on how much you want it and all that, but I was just curious what would be average for it.  Its not like I must have it, but thought it might be nice to pick up for the right price.  It will be curious to see where this line will go, there sure does seem to be pretty good retail support of it...Wal-Mart, Target, and TRU all have plenty of 'em around here.  I saw a kid in WM the other day who got the AT-RT and seemed pretty psyched about it :).

At first I wasn't going to get into but now its too late.  After I got several free promos from the Walmart tent event my wife and I have played a few games.  I know they're made for kids but these are so much easier to play with then the minis.  Then while at TRU yesterday we took advantage of the buy a starter get a booster free pack, so it's all down hilll from here.   :P
Title: Re: Attacktix
Post by: Pete_Fett on April 11, 2005, 02:55 PM
Well - I wasn't going to collect this line at all - in fact, I was referring to it as Acraptix all over the place.

Then my son saw them in the tent at WalMart...

Then my son saw the special offer for a free booster with a starter set.

Then Peter actually got to fiddle with them...

Now I have half of a complete set of 'em!

 :-X

Anyway, yesterday I went with my son to grab a couple more Yodas - two of 'em were for friends who didn't get them last weekend and two more were for us to open. When Matty saw that we could get a booster for free as well, that was all it took and I got a Starter set and and two booster sets to score a free Yoda. Then for the rest of the Yoda figures I bought some booster sets and the talking Yoda...

Anyway. I was surprised that I didn't get more duplicates. We got six booster packs in total and out of it we only got a duplicate Padme and then duplicates of the Battledroid and Super Battledroid. The Battledroid Dupe wasn't even that big of a deal 'cause we got a chrome base version and a regular version.

Out of the six packs we got four chrome base figures - BattleDroid, Plo Koon, Clone Lieutenant and Clonetrooper (#4).

So I guess that figures #1 - #5 are common, figures #6 - #15 are rare and then #16 - #30 are "super" rare. So that means that minimally you'll have to get 15 booster packs to score a complete set (and that's IF you don't end up with any duplicate "super" rares)...

So now I'm left with the thoughts of "WHY DID I START THIS?!?!?!"

We played a game last night and had fun with it. If I wasn't a completist I would just leave it at the 23 figures we have and be done with it, but god-damn my OCD won't let me leave it at that!

One thing I did notice (now I don't know if this is coincidence or not) - we did get a REALLY good mix of stuff:

2x BattleDroid (one Chrome base)
2x SuperBattleDroid
1x Wookie Scout (came with Starter Set)
1x Clone Trooper (w/Chrome base)
1x Clone Trooper
2x Padme Amidala
1x Plo Koon (w/Chrome base)
1x Bail Organa
1x Clone Lieutenant (w/Chrome base)
1x Grievous Bodyguard
1x Darth Vader (#16)
1x Shaak Ti
1x Commander Gree
1x Agen Kolar
1x Emperor
1x Nute Gunray
(and of course the four others that come with the Starter kit)...

Anyway, the six booster packs I bought all came from the same case - I actually bought a box of 'em - they come packed six per case, but they are in an outer box that I guess it meant to be put in a shelf for booster pack dispensing. Since I got all six from the same case, I'm guessing that the lack of Super Rare dupes could be attributed to the fact that it was all from one case -- of course it could be a complete coincidence too...

So now that I've caved on these, how long before I cave on Force Battlers? Bets anyone? That Clone Trooper in Wave 2 looks pretty cool...

Otherwise, I'm gonna feel left out and have to collect them too...  So stop with the peer pressure, please.  Thanks.  :-*

I'm sticking with the WOTC minis for now, as that's all the C, UC, R, and VR madness I can possibly handle at this point...

See - this is what is killing me right now - I'm fighting the urge to just go back to the TRU near where I work and pick up another case of the Boosters! The little OCD gremlin in my mind is like "You WANT to have all 36 pieces RIGHT NOW! Don't forget, you can get a FREE YODA!!!!"

AAAAAHHHHHH!
Title: Re: Attacktix

Ok - so on the way home from work tonight I went to TRU and they had a palet of stuff waiting to be shelved so I grabbe two more cases of these things (12 booster packs in all) and had them ring them up separately so I got two more Yodas...

So now I have all but 5 of the first 34 figures, and I also have 5 chrome base variants....

Anyway, I started an Attacktix Trading Thread (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=7130.0) in case anyone is interested in trading their Super Rares or Rares to help complete their sets. I also (unfortunately) ended up with a duplicate Chrome Base figure - #12 Clone Lieutenant so that's up for trade as well...

Tomorrow I'll probably purchase the Attacktix Boga and AT-RT just to finish off the set - that will leave only the Battle Case and then my OCD can rest with regards to this line -- that is until Wave 2 comes out....

A lot of people I talked to said the same...avoiding it (me too) but I dunno the chrome bases kinda put a little twist into this little neat collectible.

Ok - well - thanks to a pending trade from JayDouble and my OCD leading to me picking up the Boga, AT-RT and four more Booster Packs this morning (did anyone notice that they are a whole $1 cheaper at WalMart? I'm definitely buying any more I get there!), I now have a complete set except for:

#30 Yoda - who is a "Super Rare" figure.

I'm tempted to just pick him up on eBay. I don't know how far I'm going to go with these chrome figures. I have six so far (and two duplicates for trade) - I think getting a set of Chrome variants is going to be next to impossible. Out of 22 Booster packs that I've opened, I haven't gotten a single Super Rare Chome Variant   :(

As C-3PO would say - "this is madness!"

I would just consider any Silver bases you get as a bonus...
you`ll go crazy trying to get them all, or spend to much $$$ on eBay.
Yep, Wal-Mart is the place for these price wise, unless you need another Holo
Yoda or starter pack this week, then its TRU I suppose.

I really like these, wish I had someone to play against! I tried to get the wife
to do battle, but thats just not gonna happen, lol.  For now I`ll just shoot
the missiles and let the cat bring them back to me, he loves it.

I didn't like these and was almost insistent on not liking these until my son got a couple of promo baggied ones at WalMart during the tent event. We shot the missiles at each other and I was amazed at how strong the missile blast is! I had originally thought that these things would be weak, but the springs in the weapons really pack a punch.

If I didn't have my son to "battle" with then I don't think I would have ever even given these a chance...

Pete, remember if you pick up the Boga and AT-RT don't forget about spending $5 more to get a free Holo Yoda.  I played with the Boga last night and it just owns everyone.  Takes out the AT-RT in one swipe, because it can hit both targets at once.  They should've probably put the targets on the side for the AT-RT.  On a gaming note, does the AT-RT get to fire all 4 missles on its turn?

Hey Jay - yeah - I picked up both the AT-RT and the Boga along with another Booster Pack to score my sixth free Yoda yesterday on my way home from work!

My son and I aren't sure about how the AT-RT gun works. Does it mean you get four shots per turn with that thing? If it does, you could literally play with one side having JUST the AT-RT. I wonder if there is any info on the "Ask the Expert" page over on www.attacktix.com?

I'm working on some of the chromes. Right now, as far as the chromes I have:

Plo Koon

on the way:
Emperor
Vader
Shaak Ti
Clone Leiutenant
Clone Trooper
Padme
Super Battle Droid

wondering if I should shell it and go for the entire set or not.

Might wait to see what happens to the prices, lucked out and got a few early on pretty cheap-the real HTF ones like Vader/Emperor/Yoda seem kinda hot all of a sudden on ebay right now.

Anyone have an idea on the ratio to get chromes?

Well - I was able to purchase them as a case - six booster packs in the larger box.

From the three cases that yielded six chrome variants. However, I ended up with two Chrome Battledroids and two Chrome Clone Lieutenants.  :(

Anyway - so my rough estimate of them is roughly 2 chrome figures per un-touched case.

Okay, I wasn't giving these any credit at the beginning, but now that I have some, man, these are friggin' sweet! So far, I got a starter and four boosters, and only got two duplicates (both were commons). I got a chrome Bail in one pack, and then I saw one laying on the shelf that was opened and, lo and behold, it contained a chrome Agen Kolar! (For those of you that don't know Agen Kolar is already a 'super-rare' figure without the chrome base.) Needless to say, I bought it. (Bet it'd fetch a pretty penny on egay ;)) So, now I have two chrome base variants already. The game is pretty fun really.

Btw, pricing is as follows.

Boosters:
Target $8
Wal-Mart $7
TRU $8
Meijer $7

Battle Masters:
Target $13 :o
Wal-Mart: $10
TRU ??
Meijer ??

Those are the only four places I know of that carry them.

Boosters are $6.39 at Suncoast.  They're 20% of their normal price of $7.99.  So that's easily the cheapest place to get boosters.  Also you shoud post your want and extra list in the trade thread.  Pete and I have tons of extras.

Someone earlier in this thread asked about the ratio for the chromes.

I always heard 2 chromes per case-from everyone.  Then I got to talk to one of the Hasbro guys and he said well, yeah pretty much, but technically no, you may find some different numbers, blah blah, VERY wishy washy answer, so now I'm wondering are they putting more in or are they going to put less in, or maybe swithching to random??????  (I don;t think it really says anything specific on the packaging or anything)

So, feeling it out,  I told him I grabbed one of the firts Vader chromes way back on ebay, asked me how much and then he said "Oh yeah, I expect that to be a steal, these should go even higher, and just smiled. ???????

I was more confused AFTER talking to this guy than BEFORE I talked to him.

I still love this line.  Had fun watching people play when I walked by the tables.

Ok, so who wants free Attacktix? Yes, free, no frills, just take em! I got a few of these, and promptly got burnt out. I just can't get in to them. I've got about 12-15, they are free for the taking. First person to reply to this post can have em. I'll ship em to you sometime this week.

Yes, it is, just contacted someone about a trade, I'm trying to get the chromes, up to about a dozen of them.

If anyone has any chromes they aren;t particularly interested in email me at bobafett.fourteen@verizon.net  I have a few regualr base ones:

Agen Kolar
Wookie scout
Super Battle Droids
Clone Trooper
(possibly Mace-that was the one someone wanted and I just emailed them about)

I'd trade a few regulars for a chrome.  I just figured maybe someone out there doesn't care about the chrome base and would rather have a few more regular base ones.

I don't know if anyone is still collecting these, but from the pics I've been looking at today, it looks like some OT-based Attacktix are on the way (which I think we knew).  I haven't bought any of these, and probably still won't, but for some reason whenever one of these lines is presented with Original Trilogy figures, it makes it a little more tempting.  Not sure I'll bite or not...probably not...but the OT figures make it interesting at least :).

Figured I might as well try sticking this in here.

NEED

Black Based-

General Grievous
Yoda
Mace Windu
Commander Gree
Agen Kolar
Emperor
Shaak Ti
Chewbacca

There are others it would be nice to have more of, but I do not want to trade unless one/some/all of these are involved.

WILL TRADE

Chrome-

Mace Windu
Battle Droid
Padme Amidala
V-Wing Pilot
Bail Organa
Clone Trooper
Agen Kolar

Will possibly trade some of my black-based as well.

And freebies are always nice. ;)
Title: Attactix Breaking?
Post by: speedermike on August 1, 2005, 10:57 AM
I bought a few sets of Attactix for my 9 year old nephew yesterday.  Within an hour of moderate play, two of the "strikers' were no longer working.  The springs just gave up.  Is this common?

I started buying these and have had a hard time tracking them down in calgary alberta.  Every time a store gets them in there all gone with in the week.  I have a possible lead on getting a case but I'm still waiting to here back on a price.  But at the moment I'm missing:

#11 Count Dooku
#13 Grievous Bodyguard
#14 Neimoidian Guard
#16 Darth Vader
#17 Palpatine
#18 Ki-Adi-Mundi
#22 Chewbacca
#24 Emperir
#25 Nute Gunray
#26 Anakin Skywalker
#27 Obi-won Kenobi
#29 Tarfful
#30 Yoda

For trade I don't have much but I do have:
#1 Battle Droid
#2 Super Battle Droid (2)
#4 Clone trooper
#28 General Grievous (2)

I'm missing most of the silver bases.

As with most toys today unfortunately they aren't made like the old metal Tonka trucks that today, I would feel safer sitting on and rolling down my hill in than my Hyundai. ;^)

Yeah the springs I think have a tendancy to go, I've hear a few other stories with one here and there going, I think one the waist failed to turn properly.   My guess is people playing want to really try and pull these things back too far causing them to snap or break.  I don't play with mine, so I don't have a first hand account.

Funny, they just don't make toys like they used to.  Either way, it's still a pretty fun line.  I'd somewhat expect with a toy of this nature some wear and tear would occur, and expect some to break from time to time.

I don't collect these, but I happened to see this news (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=5106&zoneid=2) over at GH's main page.  I'm sure collectors of this line are happy to get a Jabba the Hutt, but to me, this just looked a little....strange.
