the dug is definitely your best custom yet...just work on the camera skills a bit more so we can see all the detail work you did  ;)

Other Custom Figures (non Star Wars) / Re: Postman figure?
« on: January 18, 2006, 12:39 AM »
i was thinking more along the lines of a generic army guy like maybe an elite corps or BBi guy. they kind of have "uniforms" and you could shave the extra pouches etc off. the bodies have nice posability too. i don't know if there was an AOD Ash in S-Mart uniform in the 3 3/4 - 4" size in those AOD packs. oh also those new Terminator figs might could work too...the one generic cop looking guy. ok that was a good illustration of my ADD problem...i'll be moving along & going about my business now  :P

Thanks everyone for the kind words -- it really means a lot coming from experienced customizers, artists here that i really look up to. it's nice to have genuine comments/critiques too rather than "cool" or "sweet".  i know that clones have been pretty overworked, but i want to do all the commanders myself, so look for Cody & Gree in the future in between other projects.

Phruby, thanks for answering BrentS...i just didn't want anyone to think that i sculpted the helmet. Ryan does top notch work. i also got a Cody from him that i will be working on next.

i should have another update in a couple of days...a 12" update to be more specific  8)

I got sick right around New Years and it kinda slowed me down, but i managed to get a couple more projects off my desk & completed.

First up is Commander Neyo. This is a #41 Target Clone & a Bantha5 kit. my husband cut the styrene straps for me and made the shoulder pauldron out of styrene too. he also made the buckle on the strap across the chest out of a little thicker styrene we have. the strap goes through the buckle and then loops through another buckle opening cut in the styrene near the shoulder. i tried to get it as accurate as possible and painted the emblem on the helmet - its not a decal. i tried to weather it just like the reference shots i studied. i guessed at the strap configuration on the back and if its not totally accurate that's ok. overall, i like the way it turned out. i'm a little burned out on clones, but i had this project lined up to do and wanted it done.

since i did a season 2 Clone Wars obi-wan in clone disguise, i wanted to do a season 1 Clone Wars obi-wan clone disguise but with soft goods.  the body is a Tank Gunner, the head is from the Battle Pack and the robe is from the AOTC pilot obi-wan. i repainted the hair to more the right shade of brown and my husband helped cut and engineer the robe and clasps as well. i like the soft goods on this for a change, it was easy to do. i was working on this before the group project so that's why he's not there.  ;)

as always all comments are welcome  :)

i was also going to say that the Snake Jedi made me think of Clash of the Titans Medusa too Ennis...all he needs is a quiver on his back full of arrows and a crossbow  :)

i like the idea of the female clone, i think she just needs to have "breast armor" to be a little more believable...unless she is really flat chested  :P

i don't really care too much for the vader-bot myself, but that's just me... maybe with different legs or arms, more droid-like/android i would like it a little better...but if it makes you happy then keep it the way it is.

good work overall on the paint, just a few lines that could be cleaned up but other than that, looking good  :)

Is he holding his unit in this picture?

Ha!

From that Angle it does look a little funny.

It's just a loose strap from his Jumpsuit.  Don't get to excited ;D

LOL! best laugh i have had today!

Seriously though Fritz, i really dig your dead troopers and i think i like the pilot the best, especially when thinking of the opening of ROTS. very nice work!

DD, i really like your Commander Krell a lot, the poncho and extra little bits make him a believable fan-fic clone. he obviously is creativly and more important, thoughtfully put together and painted which is becoming a rarity these days when it comes to custom clones.

as far as the galactic marine, the head sculpt looks amazing, definitely one of the best i have seen. as far as the knee pads go, all i can think of is perhaps cutting them off a snowtrooper & pasting them on the marine and doing something like that...but i'm not sure how well that would work. i'm really tired right now so if that sounds dumb just ignore it  :P

the assassin droid is unique looking, at first i wasn't sure if i liked it or not to be honest, but the paint apps drew me in and i find myself liking it a lot now.

i love the blue gonk, gonk's are just plain fun and it's nice to see one pop up again.

the Durge repaint is nice as well, great sprucing up so to speak  :)

as always, i look forward to updates from you, please keep 'em coming  :)

darth_ripley- I was thinking about how to go about making an electrostaff. I have a couple of tips from Phono plugs (big headphone jacks) and i was thinking about sticking them in either end of an ink tube from a ballpoint pen...what do you think?

i don't know what kind of hardware/craft/hobby stores you have in Canada, but i would suggest some small hollow aluminum tubing for a solid and nice looking base for an electrostaff, along with the phono jacks or other parts on the ends of the aluminum. its fairly lightweight being hollow and i think would look better than attempting to paint a ballpoint pen shaft...although that would work too i bet. i've started experimenting with making 1/6th scale aluminum lightsabers so i'm kinda hooked on that right now.  ;)

here's a reference photo of the staffs:

Richard, actually a battle damaged Shaak Ti with electrostaff from the end of season 2 would be a cool and different spin on a 12" ... and you could get a cy girls body that would be a cooler body with more articulation (less barbie-esque)  if i could find one on clearance at wally-mart for a good deal i would pick it up in a minute, but its gotta be a good deal b/c i am stretched pretty thin this month due to a bunch of house expenses.

yeah, Power DVD is great - i use that myself too.

so i'm having a hard time trying to win a Muftak off ebay at a good price right now (inflated shipping costs) and i already have a Hammerhead so i may change to a Roron Corobb and possibly a Wolfman Jedi too. what do ya'll think would be a good Jedi torso for these guys?

131
Glassman, i love the Tonnika's on the Saga packaging...they really look amazing! i think the Mon Cal dancer would look much better on a Saga card too, not that the ROTS isn't cool, the Saga is just that much better  ;)

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: New Customs by the Findswoman
« on: January 9, 2006, 03:10 PM »
thanks for posting the pics up for everyone to see Findswoman...i couldn't get into the geocities either.

i think my favorite is the blue snag. i love the silver boots and the loud blue jumpsuit, such a great update on a fun character.

the padme in nightgown is also stunning. i love the use of soft goods on her gown and the little bead & accents make it look like something we could only dream of getting from Hasbro.

padme's ghost is spoooooooooky!  :o

i'm not familiar with King Ebareebaveebeedee, but he looks really cool.

keep up the wonderful work Findswoman, i look forward to more of your updates!  :)

there's actually a lot of characters to choose from if you go back and look at the cartoon, both seasons. just b/c there are no clones allowed doesn't mean there isn't anything else to do. personally i like the challenge/idea of no clones, its a refreshing change.

imo, it takes more creativity when your options are more limited, it requires more thought & patience.

134
i'm thinking the outfit would have to be soft goods since there aren't any Jedi robes that are big enough to fit him and i don't know about sculpting any....i like the soft goods idea anyhow. i think i can retool some extra 12" clothes that i have in my fodder bin. i have leather scraps i can use for the belt...and i don't believe he has boots, at least i hope not lol!  :P

i am just finishing up a soft goods Obi-Wan clone disguise from season 1 but i don't want to put that into this challenge.

ideally, it would be awesome to do an IG Lancer droid too....but i may have my hands too full with other stuff at the moment.

135
ooooh you can count me in on this one. i'm planning on doing the Talz Jedi named Foul Moudama that carries Palpatine in Season 2 and fights along side Shaak Ti and Roron Corobb. i wanted to do this character anyhow as part of my planned "real world Clone Wars line" this will just get me to do him sooner  ;)

here is what he looks like from the sw databank site:

now all i have to do is find a good deal on a Muftak & Kabe set....fleebay here i come  :P

it is ok if we do something other than Cold Weather Yoda or Snowbunny Padme? if not, I could see about cooking up a Cold weather Yoda.
