Other Toy Lines / Re: Why Do You Collect?
« on: August 24, 2003, 02:02 AM »
I collect things that I love.  Mostly it's Star Wars.  I used to collect a lot of Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and other SF toys -- this is going wa-a-y back.  And I started collecting all those things because I couldn't get enough of the movie, TV series, or whatever.  I collect toys related to Harrison Ford and Kenneth Branagh (yep, I even bought the tank from Wild Wild West because he played Loveless), and the occasional Gilligan's Island toy.  And it's all because it brings a little bit of something that I love into my life.

1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / Re: 12" Leia on Speeder
« on: June 29, 2003, 07:42 PM »
I *always* save my receipts in case of a sale or clearance.  I hope I can find Leia with Speederbike here.  I hate exclusives, because they're that much harder to find; the non-exclusives are bad enough, at least in this area.  If it's not poor distribution, it's all the flea-market and eBay dealers.

If anyone in town ever gets one, I'll definitely pick it up.  Where I'll put it, I have no idea....

Hey Hasbro! / Re: Hasbro Points
« on: June 29, 2003, 07:37 PM »
I feel confident that, if Hasbro finally does something with the points, unless it's something that literally requires tens-of-thousands of points to redeem, they will also require you to send in a dated cash register receipt within certain "promotions dates."  It just seems like the sort of thing they'd do.  They don't seem to understand or care about the collectors, except to "use" us through games like, let's not release very many of this figure until we see that dealers are getting hundreds of dollars for it, then let's flood the market.  Let's not distribute evenly and fairly.  I'd just like to be able to walk into any store that carries toys and buy a Teebo.  I've been looking for it for months.  And Lord only knows what figures have come out in the meantime that have never hit my area.  It's the one negative to a hobby that's otherwise a lot of fun.

I haven't seen new toys anywhere in weeks.  I'm going crazy in Florida!!

I think these are neat, but I only have the X-Wing set.  I wouldn't mind picking up the Wampa and Falcon sometime.  Trouble is, I'm out of room, even though I'm still buying....

I don't care for the McFarland-style figures, although I've picked up a couple (Jango and Padmé).  Han's a must-have, just because he's my favorite character in the OT, and I do like the running-up-the-ramp pose.  The others, I might pick up if they're on clearance.

I've had better luck in the out-of-the-mall Hallmark shops the day after Christmas - they don't get as much traffic as the mall stores, so they tend to have the ones left that I want.  It's also a great time to pick up a few extras for gifts/trading.

Other Collectibles / Re: PEZ dispensers
« on: May 5, 2003, 01:48 AM »
I don't think I can bring myself to pay $25 for a PEZ dispenser, although I'd love to have them all in the collection.  I'd never even heard about the gold and silver ones - I hope that's real gold and silver plating for $115.

My husband just rolled his eyes.

I've got all the regular PEZ in baggies and a couple on cards. I also nabbed a couple of SW PEZ displays from the Joann's Fabric store, so whenever we get the new house, hopefully that's how I'll be displaying 'em.

Other Collectibles / Clocks & Watches
« on: April 22, 2003, 07:58 PM »
I remember seeing the 3PO/R2 alarm clock in the Sears catalog, I think it was, and wishing I could have it.  This was, of course, back in the old days, late '70s.   Since then, I've managed to collect quite a few Star Wars watches; I have several from Bradley, an elegant one I got at Walt Disney World in about '89 that has a black face with Vader's mask outlined in gold, the cheap Hope Industries ones, a few by Fossil (but not many - I have to wait for a sale at the outlet mall).  I got a few after Ep1 at Sears and JC Penneys, but I can't remember the brand - maybe it was Timex - but they weren't real expensive and they were on clearance, most of 'em.  A couple of years ago KayBee had some very small desk clocks with watch-sized faces, but the one I wanted most of all, Amidala, I never found.  And let's not forget the big plush Jar Jar that tells time when you squeeze one hand and recites phrases when you press the other hand.

Anyone else collect timepieces?

What JediMac said!

I got all my mini-helmets at clearance prices, and I love
them.  They are really beautiful and a great addition to any Star Wars collection.

I bought a bunch of the MicroMachines when they first came out, but then I got fed up with them putting out a 3-pack with only one new ship in it, so I didn't 'catch up' until TRU had a clearance sale.  I think I'm still missing one or two sets.  I even have a few individually packaged MicroMachines - fan club exclusives in boxes and some blister pack ones I found at a drugstore, of all places.

I have most, if not all, of the playsets, the transforming ones, the big heads, and so forth, and I have most of the Action Fleet.  The batch with the Queen's ship in it I never saw; finally overpaid on eBay to get one. (Actually, I asked my husband to keep an eye on it while I was at work - no eBay access - and *he* overpaid; I probably wouldn't have gone as high as he did.)

As for the little heads, I've got a bunch, but I'm not sure if I have all the ones that were out there.  I lost a couple of sets of the ones from Pizza Hut, by sending them to someone who never sent me a check.

How about the DieCast miniatures - the ones not quite as small as MicroMachines?  I liked those the best, although some weren't very well detailed.  I think I have all six of those; I never saw any past that first set.

Hobbylink Japan has the Fine Molds Jedi Starfighter on sale for 30% off, about $15 plus shipping.   It looks very good to me.  I wish they had their Second Trilogy ships on sale.

I've gotta have all of those, except maybe the Clone Troopers. I have not been as obsessive with First Trilogy collectibles as I have been with Second Trilogy.  I wish they still did ornaments at Easter; they only ever had a couple then dropped that line.

Vintage Kenner / Re: Vintage Variants/Errors

Of course I can't find the photo and the figure's packed up, but does this sound familiar - Han Solo in Bespin Gear dressed all in black instead of dark blue?  One of my husband's friends bought one back then, and he claims to have talked to a toy rep in the store who told him it was a mistake.  It's no longer in the package.  I received it as a wedding gift.  There must be a few more of these out there somewhere.....
