Saga Legends / Re: Battle of Geonosis: Jedi Knights Battle Packs
« on: October 16, 2013, 08:25 PM »
I saw both of these sets at TRU stores near me.  However, at both stores I visited they were priced at $45.99 each.  I passed at that price.  Especially since they're on TRU.com for $39.99 each.

Star Wars Rebels / Re: Star Wars Rebels - 5 POA Animated Style Figs
« on: October 14, 2013, 06:12 PM »
5 POA seems to be the way the industry is moving in an effort to bring down costs.  That, or go to the 6" scale which seems to have a greater cross-appeal with collectors who hadn't necessarily been into Star Wars.

The figure designs are going to have a tremendous impact on whether or not the 5 POA is a big deal or not.  I know that in the case of the new Saga Legends and Mission Series figures, I've been pleasantly surprised with the quality of the sculpts on those new figures.  The 5 POA is disappointing, but the high quality of the sculpting of those figures has made the limited articulation a little easier to accept.

I get the feeling we'll see a sneak peek of the first wave(s) of the Rebels line at Toy Fair.  Those figures will probably be out right before SDCC, and we'll probably see more of the line at SDCC.

Star Wars Rebels / Re: Star Wars: Rebels - Class II Vehicles
« on: October 13, 2013, 10:41 AM »
There's been specific mentions of several Imperial vehicles thus far.

-Star Destroyer
-AT-DP (All Terrain Defense Pod)
-TIE Fighters
-Imperial Transport (based on the Kenner vehicle)

I'd say that 3 of the 4 are pretty likely candidates. A Star Destroyer toy is just out of the question unless its ludicrously scaled down.  As for the Imperial Transport? I wonder if the Kenner tooling is still available in Hasbro's inventory?

The inquisitors are an EU device that dates back quite a way.  I seem to recall them being in the mix in the Dark Empire storyline.  And I think an Inquisitor also made his way into the mix with some of the online comic strips that were featured on The Official Site.  I seem to recall that some may have been Jedi that turned to the service of the New Order.  Others may have been former padawans that were sent off to the agricultural corps.

A little bit from The Official Site regarding the NYCC REBELS panel.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Skye is definitely meant to be the eye candy.  Although I find myself checking out Simmons and May more than her.

The show has definitely been building slowly.  Maybe a little too slowly for some viewers.  This weeks episode was another place-setter for somewhere down the road, as is the mysterious Coulson story.  We do have a couple of Marvel movies on tap over the next year.  And I do suspect that there's the possibility of tie-ins preceding the release of the new Thor and Captain America movies.

He's an interesting choice, but begs the question, would he be...

Hologram style? That is transparent blue, how they've been doing holograms (except Jabba's palace Luke, which was some time ago)

More movie accurate? That is translucent with paint details like recent "Jedi spirit" figures.

A normal not-see-through Imperial officer? Not screen accurate, but arguably more useful as a "toy".

In theory they could do more than one of the above, but the rate Hasbro does things, especially obscure Imperial officers, that seems unlikely.

I think that you'd probably have to do Asteroid Victim Star Destroyer Captain as part of a multi-pack, with Vader and some other Imperials.  Ideally, I'd like to see the AVSDC's hologram de-rezzing as his Star Destroyer is being hit by the asteroid.  But then, that's just me.

DAMN!  Am I the only one pulling for Asteroid Victim Star Destroyer Commander?!?!?

None of these in my neck of the woods yet.  And no shelf or peg tags, either.

Wedge and  Farr are rumored...so are #11 and #12 (Yoda and Dag Luke) which leaves some slim pickins at #13 and #14

So do tell, Scott.  Who came in at #13 and #14?  Because Wedge, Toryn Farr, Dagobah Luke and Yoda just got knocked off with the revelations from tonight's Hasbro party in NYC.

The Black Series 3.75" / Re: The Black Series 3.75" - Wave 5
« on: October 9, 2013, 07:56 PM »
Pretty much the best wave ever. Snowtrooper Commander? Toyrn Farr? Snowspeeder Wedge? ESB wish list destroyed.

Definitely.  Aside from the ROTS Vader (which I understand), this is about as solid of a TESB wave as you can get.  The one question I have is about the kama on the Snowtrooper.  From the SWAN image I looked at, it looks like the kama is plastic and not softgoods.  I also couldn't see a rank badge in their image, either.

Scored a Nein Nunb and Lumat today.  In a shop.  For MSRP.

Weird.

The Black Series 3.75" / Re: New York Comic-Con 2013
« on: September 30, 2013, 10:29 AM »
Hasbro isn't attending NYCC this year. No Star Wars. No Marvel. No Joe. Nothing. They are doing a VIP party on the Wednesday before but no official presence at the con. I got the invite, but I suspect it will be a masturbatory exercise in all things Angry Birds Telepods.

Really?  Glad I didn't get a ticket in that case.  A Hasbro exhibit would've been my primary motivation for checking out NYCC this year.  But this makes not going okay by me.

Kurse is something like 3 per case in this first wave.  Definitely a plentiful figure!  Although I recall the comic design for the character being very different.

Ewok Village Review

I saw the Ewok village on display last night at a local LEGO store. All I can say is WOW!  It really is one of the more impressive LEGO sets that I've ever seen.  Time and again LEGO just shows what impressive work they can do, and that their product line is so adaptable that they can do just about anything they want to.
