Carded/Loose Pics of Wedge (http://www.sandtroopers.com/sandwatch/hasbro/20110302/index.html)
Headsculpt looks a lot better than the Target X-Wing set. Does he use the "average" Pilot body or the smaller Luke one?
-
Looks like the Luke body to me.
-
Hmmm, honestly I liked the one that came with the X-Wing. It looked a bit more like ROTJ Wedge I think, than this figure does. I think if I don't get it, I won't be broken hearted. I'd like to have one though, if for no other reason than to have a vinty card with wedge on it.
-
Geeze, why did they use that body?
It's really inferior to what they are capable of... it's this kind of crap that has made me get annoyed with Hasbro's Rebel pilots. Because of this, I'll be passing...
Ultimately, I think when they make bad moves like this, it results in pegwarming. Which in turn, Hasbro says there is a lack of collector interest... but the real culprit is Hasbro for not using the better molds they already have at their disposal...
I don't think he'll pegwarm, as he's probably going to be pretty limited (unless Hasbro and retailers get really zealous with this wave based on the past success of the ROTJ wave). And I don't see it being a Dak situation (which I realize was not widespread, just in my area, the Targets all seemed to get in a buttload of the revision of Wave One that had him in it). But still... a poor move by Hasbro I think in using those parts from the neck down.
-
I mainly just want this for the vintage card. I do agree that it's kind of crappy they used the Luke body. Just use the one from the X-Wing. Oh well.
-
So, let me get this straight...Wedge was delayed so they could do an updated head sculpt, but they chose to use an arguably inferior body?
Am I missing something here?
-
I'm not sure why they'd use Luke's body for Wedge unless they've found out that Dennis Lawson is a shorter guy... which may be true. Garrick Hagon isn't tall either, so basically all Biggs figures are inaccurate to some degree.
The Luke body, to me, is not really different than any other X-WIng pilot sculpt other than the legs are shorter to make the figure shorter. The generic height XW suclpt isn't really better or worse though. It's just taller.
I can't find Dennis Lawson's height anywhere on IMDB, so unless he's taller or shorter, that really would depend on how I view them using Luke's sculpt for the figure.
Personally I always thought he was taller than Luke but now I have no clue.
-
Hmm. Not sure it's worth the wait. Oh well. Wedge on a vintage card.
-
I think they just went with whatever was convenient for them, but who knows... and the height is a bit of an issue for me, but it's the arms/shoulders on that sculpt that I really don't like. It just doesn't look nearly as natural as some of the more recent molds.
-

Luke Height: 1.72 meters (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Luke_Skywalker)
Wedge Height: 1.7 meters (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wedge_Antilles)
-
I see they cheaped out and did not paint the gun barrel...
I personally think the Steakhouse Waiter Wedge figure from the comic pack had the best likeness of the current Wedges. This new head is better than the Target one but falls short from the CP one.

I'd still rather see IMDB's height listing over WOokieepedia, but I'd guess theirs isn't inaccurate either... Seems like Wedge is even shorter than Luke, making his other figures a little weird.
-
I'd still rather see IMDB's height listing
Denis Lawson = Height: 5'8" (1.73 m) (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0493200/bio)
Mark Hamill = Height: 5'9" (1.75 m) (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000434/bio)
-
How in the hell was I not getting any returns on Lawson's acting profile? That was frustrating. He's like the only actor I ever had trouble finding his profile on that site.
Well that ends that debate then... the Luke Pilot sculpt is pretty much appropriate. I'm ok with that then. :) Now it makes the target one inaccurate.
I hope they re-use Snowspeeder Luke now to get us a SS Wedge.

That's why I bought an extra Dack.
-
I guess it does make sense since he's supposed to be about Luke's height, but damn I don't care for that sculpt. Looks too stubby or something, especially compared to the Snowspeeder Luke sculpt. Maybe I'm being too picky though.

Not really being too picky at all.
Time for the product to be better given it's not cheap.

Same here.
-
Yeah, I want that Wedge badly. I don't want to buy a whole case just to get him though. I have low hopes of actually seeing him at retail. We'll see though. I finally saw the Endor Capture Luke cardback and some numbnuts had bent the corners on two that were hanging on the shelves. I can't believe some idiots still do that crap but they do ::)
-
So Wedge is apparently out in stores now, according to JTA, but they did not mention which store so I have no idea where to start hunting this. Has anyone on the West Coast seen it yet? He's already on eBay too, for a ridiculously inflated premium.
I'm buying every one of this dude that I see!
-
If the revision is showing I need to be on the hunt because I never saw wicket and would like a couple more Piggies
-
Has anyone actually found Wedge? I cant.
-
Has anyone actually found Wedge? I cant.
Only dudes on otheR Sites apparently.
I have seen none of the tell-tale leftovers from that wave - Ackbar, Gammos, etc around here at all.
I can sort of see why people are freaking out over it, Wave 7 is already hitting now, and peg space is at an all time low it seems.
-
Anyone found Wedge in a store? ???
-
I'm guessing that Wedge is getting some scalpers back into the fray as I've noticed an increase in interest in SW at the stores over the last week or so. The regular WH guy who usually couldn't give a crap is starting to make it a point to make it to the SW section before I do and random people who I've never seen before are making a dash to the SW section. Good thing there's not been anything new yet.
-
Anyone found Wedge in a store? ???
Surely in these Dark Times that'd be an impossible thing to do. :(
-
The wave 3 rev.11 case is back up for order on the Entertainment Earth site. I doubt this is ever going to show up at retail, at least in any volume at this point and in my area. I searched for weeks and never found any of it. My local Target has not stocked any TVC in over a month and the others in my area have rarely put anything out, they're just not getting anything. Walmart isn't doing much better. I finally broke down and hit up TRU and was lucky enough to get Logray but passed on the rest of the wave as they all had banged up bubbles and figured I'd leave the RFT's for others. I talked to the guy there and he hadn't seen any of wave 3 come back through since it originally shipped.
-
I can't say I'm looking particularly hard for Wedge, but I know I also haven't seen him anywhere either.
-
Well, I know all those ones showing up on eBay aren't just from online sellers. Dude is out there somewhere. But ya, I've pretty much given up. It's been over 6 weeks now since I bought a new SW toy, don't see that changing anytime soon either.

I have noticed this too - especially at TRU on the truck days - there are more folks interested in the SW section lately, and so far, there hasn't been anything to be had.
The other unfortunately thing that happened at the TRU I can easily be at for opening is that an assistant manager from another store who was notorious for selling stuff out the back to scalpers has been transferred to this store. So I can't help but think that the reason that this store has NEVER gotten in the latest vintage or clone wars waves may be because of him. >:(
-
Well, I know all those ones showing up on eBay aren't just from online sellers. Dude is out there somewhere.
JTA has a front-page report of one eBay auction that sold him for $460... I wonder if Hasbro thought over putting Wedge in just one case before they actually did it.
-
I'm very tempted to start a whole new "The Wedge Fiasco" thread here in this forum because it is such an interesting topic of conversation right now. Does not seem to generate much discussion around here but it really gets ranted about ad nauseam at some otheR Sites.
I mean, people are really irate about this stuff, and the blame is being spewed everywhere. They're mad at Hasbro, they're mad at the brick and mortar stores, they're mad at the onlines sellers, they're mad at the eBay scalpers, they're even mad at the people paying the crazy prices for these things.
I don't have the historical perspective that some of you do, having been out of the hobby for a long while in the 90's, but I don't ever recall this level of hysteria about an action figure before. It's actually pretty amusing, and sort of fascinating from a sociological perspective.
I honestly think if they had just released Wedge as part of a regular wave with proper distribution that it would have killed about 90% of the hype. But by doing it as part of a revision wave, for a wave that was already flying off shelves, seems at best clueless and at worse cruel. I really think this is a great example of demand being fed purely by lack of availability. Like the South Park episode where Cartman bought his own amusement park and then closed it to the public, thereby instantly making it the most popular amusement park in the world.
That whole card revision thing did not help either. It's like a perfect storm of of insanity.
Oh, and I love that one online seller that cancelled all their pre-orders so they could sell Wedge on Amazon for twice as much. ::) That's just brutal!
Sorry no actual purchases to detail with this post...I drove 40 minutes to a TRU in Fredericksburg yesterday but no sigh of Wave 7 yet. :-[
-

Oh, there have been plenty of these "figure hysteria" moments over the years - Freeze Frame Weequay, CommTech R2-D2, 2007 EU Wave, CW Talz wave, etc. Sometimes they turn out valid (FF Weequay still commands some good $$) and sometimes they turn out as plentiful as every other figure ($1.99 CommTech R2 bins at TRU).
For me, the jury is still out on Wedge. Is he hard to find because of scalpers and speculators? Or is he hard to find because EVERY figure is sort of hard to find thanks to the crappy retail situation at most stores? I don't know.
For me, if I can find the new Wedge, fine. If for some reason I never find one, that's fine too - I'll just buy him when they repack him in some pilot set or with some ship in a few years. :P
-
I haven't been paying as close attention to things as I normally do 'cause things at work have been hectic, but I have one question: Has it been confirmed that they are NEVER putting him in another case assortment somewhere?
It seems to me that we don't know what the case assortments are going to be beyond the Revenge of the Jedi wave so it's entirely possible he'll be slotted into a wave after that isn't there?
Since I wanted at least one of him to open, I saw that EE had ONE non-mint one in stock so I ordered it.
If I have to, I'll order a whole Wave 3 revision case to secure a MOC one.
-
There's absolutely no clue how Wedge may resurface... He could come out again a year from now in Legends or something. Revenge carded figures are the only current pre-order though (Since Wave 7 has shipped), and so he could very easily wind up in future cases that haven't been announced yet, yes.
-
BBTS has Wedge by himself for 39.99... Screw that he not worth that much for a kit-bash.
-
All it'll take to kill that is someone casting his head in flesh tones, haha.
-
Sadly going to settle with the one with the X wing.
-

That one is better anyway.
-
This situation is just ridiculous. I dont get the logic and its killing my love for this line.
-
See, stuff like this makes any collector a scalper. I'd be a fool not to buy this release and turn around and sell it. It's ridiculous and detrimental to the hobby.
-
This situation is just ridiculous. I dont get the logic and its killing my love for this line.
Yep, I love the fact that they finally put these figures on these cardbacks but yet they kill it with crap like that. It's sad because it literally is killing my love for the line as well. It's bad enough that you do have to pay $10 per figure. Now to get a background character like Wedge you have to pay way more than what the figure should be worth. Hasbro has really pissed me off with with these figures. Yet you can find Clone Wars figure (the supposed golden child of line now) all over creation. Yet, they can't make the vintage line readily available???
-
Hasbros executives and marketing asshats are completely tonedeaf and stupid about this line.
You can tell them I said so.
There is no excuse for how hard it is to find the Vintage figures, there are so many I have never even seen in person
Instead of a fans choice poll, they should let fans vote on case assortments as far out as is possible. For soem reason I bet they would hate that idea
-

Some of the minor Clone Wars guys were/are really hard to get. Prices vary but several of the minor characters climbed to $20-$40, and the ARC Troopers Battle Pack topped $150 a few weeks ago. The same distribution problems are occurring on every line right now-- Iron Man 2 had its final comic assortment not hit brick and mortar toy retail (I saw it in a grocery store, and we got them at work), Thor's later waves are very difficult to come by, and the bulk of 2011 Transformers never hit ANY US shelves other than online and closeout. And GI Joe has worse distribution than Star Wars, by and large, as some stores dropped the line entirely and a lot of fans (myself included) flat-out never saw certain figures hit.
The problem isn't necessarily Hasbro either, unless you want to blame the sheer quantity of stuff they put out in a year. The assortment system with its 12-piece cases and limited pegspace isn't really ideally suited to assortments which rotate in and out 50 figures over the course of a year, and the bizarre shutting-down of new product at some stores (Transformers everywhere in early 2011, Star Wars at TRU past vintage wave 2 last year) makes very little sense in the grand scheme of how retail toy business works.
I have to assume Wedge will be coming in a later case, if not, Hasbro has a golden opportunity to reship it in future assortments. Obviously, the demand is here... and it could even show up as a 2012 SDCC exclusive like we saw with the Stormtrooper Commander in 2009. (Although I'd love to see him on a POTF coin card if they went that way, but that's me.)
All I can say is I hope everybody keeps complaining. Complain at SDCC. Complain at NYCC if Hasbro's there. Complain in the Q&As. Make it front page news. Hasbro doesn't ignore mandates from the fanbase if they're loud enough. A figure commanding $450 on the secondary market benefits no one in the grand scheme of things, and I think the last time something like that happened was Playmates Star Trek. That wasn't good. And today we got word ShopStarWars.com is shutting down next week. That's not good either.
-
Squeaky wheel gets the grease...
Of course I think some have it already assumed that they'll re-release him for cheap, and that the figure's value is a non-issue and people should just wait it out and not "feed the scalper"... I guess that kind of goes against making front page news of the complaints, despite desire for the same goal to be attained.
Myself, I am not too worried... I kind of like the X-Wing version better anyway, but if I saw it I'd of course buy. Even just for the cardback really.
-
what is different about the X-Wing version and the Vintage version? I imagine it is the head - but is it that different? Are there any other differences?
-
the new one appears to be Luke's body/shorter, whereas the XWing version is using the more "average height" body... Just stuff like that. I think it's been established that Lawson is short though, so the Luke is probably more accurate (I believe it was in this thread even, somewhere).
The heads are different though, and the helmet as well I believe.
-

The TLC Wedge is a kit bash of the Quarren X-wing pilot (from the Comic Pack) and the John D. Brannon (from the Rebel last Rebel Pilots Evolution Set) and a new head and repainted helmet.
Vintage version is a kitbash/repaint of the VOTC X-wing Luke.
-
I donno. I think if the line continues as Hasbro plans, we'll see him in another case assortment.
-
Incase you missed out on a pre-order, or finding the elusive Wedge Antilles at retail, site sponsor Entertainment Earth is giving you a good opportunity to get him now, plus another Gammie Guard isn't going to hurt your collection either.
Wave 3, Revision Case (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS97568C11)
Get your order in, and get your Wedge!
-
Never saw this guy... he's already come and gone for the most part?
If anyone stumbles across an extra, I'd take it off your hands.
-
Already sold out, according to JTA.
I still defy Hasbro to prove that this wave ever shipped to a single brick and mortar retail outlet. I've never seen a figure this hard to find.
-
I think they were all sold to Rite-Aid stores. He is sitting there with a POTF2 8D8.
-
Since this is the 3rd shipment of these that Entertainment Earth has had on this case assortment I'd say it's only a matter of time before these are all over the place. The variant used to sell for over $300 on the bay and now hit's barely over $40. The price is coming down and I'm sure EE will get another shipment before it's over. They'll probably be everywhere the next toyshow you go to.
-
The revision shipped as I saw it, but not Wedge. It was definitely the revision though.
Chuck, you're probably right, and plus Hasbro did say they were making sure Wedge makes it back in 2012. It's a good case to get though (if you got it) since Wicket's a good one, Ackbar's still popular, Jedi Luke, Gammie of course, Wedgey...
Even the Endor Rebel's a good army builder that around me sells semi-steadily. I'm seeing only about 2 or 3 at any given store, which isn't bad given how often he's been repacked, haha.
-
Hey Guys,
Sorry for being late to the party.
How is this figure different from the 09 legacy collection - target exclusive figure?
Please enlighten me. Thanks
-
New head, and it's on a Luke body since apparantly Dennis Lawson is a pretty short dude in the grand scheme. Personally, I'm not that bothered to get it... The helmet deco looks nice but I dont' think I'd even say it's nicer than previous versions.
I want one more for the card even.
-
Thanks for the response. I know that the figure is supposedly rare but I just can't justify spending over $50 for an action figure
-
I can't justify $10 for figures anymore, so yeah I agree.
-
Honestly, I feel you, cause when I see $11.95 at toysrus for the vintage figures I have a problem with that. I live in NYC so I'm glad that we have targets in the area to battle toysrus with their greed. However, what I see what they want for this wedge figure; I want to ask these people are they crazy for asking that much money for one figure. I'll deal with $10 - 12 dollars for a figure but I won't go above that.
-
I WILL find wedge at retail and will pay no more than $10. It will happen!
-
When you do, please pick up three or four to share with the rest of us. I'll gladly send you $10 + shipping for one. Please and thank you!
-
Hey Guys,
I'm new to the board and I'm sure this has been discussed already, but I have to ask again.
What is the deal with this figure only being available in a packaged wave. Who's decision was for it to happen this way?
Was there an outraged movement of collectors who flooded Hasbro with emails and complaints? I'm curious as to why we as collectors let this go down like this. If this wasn't or isn't case can we still make a stink about this. I've have stated before and will state again. I will never go to ebay or any other site that is offering this figure and pay 30 - 60 or more for this figure or any other figure for that matter. Why is this damn figure so rare? Someone please explain and again please forgive me for posting this question again.
Thank you
-
I heard from JTA that Wedge was found at a retail store in Mexico.

And the dude didn't even buy it. He could have fed his family for a month off what he would have made on the secondary market. :D
Seriously though, Mexico? Come on Hasbro. Now is not the time to address our trade deficit with Wedges.

Rumor has it that Dennis Lawson is buying all them up because he hates being in Star Wars and even petitioned to have his character removed from the Blu-Ray editions.
Or maybe I just made that up. ;)
-
I got Wedge. He really is awesome.
