I think it's pretty cool, and hopefully I'll be able to pick one of them up.  I never did see the C-3P0/R2-D2 in any store by me, but I got one for Valentine's Day from my wife.  Boy, do I love her!   ;D

Only $8!?!?!?!?  Great... just great!  My wife paid about $30 for the one I have now.   :-\

Why do they have to make this an online exclusive?

A Saint Patrick's Day Yoda figure would've been much better.  I sense a Valentine Leia & Pilgrim Luke fig coming real soon.....

You guys just gotta realize that these "gimmicks" aren't anything new. They are just McQuarrie concept sketches coming to life in the form of figures.

I like them, and I don't see what the big deal is? We sit through 7 different Kenobi's, 7 different Anakin's, 6 Jango's, 5 Mace's. It's a fun figure.

As for the online exclusive, I'd say their entire line is like an online exclusive, Robb.  :P

*Trying not to give a GNT-ish answer*

I'd say this would have faired as well as the other one in retail, if they made sure it saw a wider release than last years.

Why do they have to make this at all ???

Eh, it's ok I guess.  You guys can have it though.  These and the silver-metallic figures don't do much for me.  I can't see myself really wanting these.  I may get them someday if I find them at a flea market 20 years from now.  They just are not up there on my list.

You guys just gotta realize that these "gimmicks" aren't anything new. They are just McQuarrie concept sketches coming to life in the form of figures.

And that makes the idea less silly how?  It's still a gimmick.  And for the record, I think it's just as silly to have multiple versions of the same fig (especially when they didn't really change costumes in the movie).  Good examples include Anakin, Jango, Chewie, & R2.  Of course, some collectors will buy the 20th version of Maul with a smile.  More power to to them.  Anyway, there's no doubt that there's obviously a market for SW X-mas figs.  But then again, there's also quite a market for N'Sync CD's too.
Title: Re: Santa Yoda!
Post by: Jango Fettish on July 19, 2003, 08:01 PM
There's a market for everything, and I didn't even bother touching on how silly they were, because people still clambered all over for the C3 + R2 set.

It's unique, and *I* think it's fun. They may look silly, but they sell.
Think that old adage of not liking it and not buying it fits in here.

I think it is a nice idea. I will be getting one for me and one for my mother since she is a Yoda nut.

The holiday figures are obviously not everybody's cup of tea.  So what's the big deal?  You either hate them, or think they're kind of fun.  I'm of the opinion that they're pretty cool (Yoda & the previous droids), in an EU kind of way.  Just don't get them if you think they're lame.  I think they'll at the very least be fun little decorations for the average Star Wars fan or collector to put out around the house during the Holiday season.   8)

I think the Yoda is a nice representation of the McQuarrie artwork once again.  Good job Hasbro!  Now just give us some more McQuarrie artwork/concept figures in the regular line and I'll be even happier!

So how many people signed up for the Lightspeed Pass from Paizo for the Yoda?

It wasn't even up when the news broke, so I had to wait. But I got an e-mail from Paizo, and man they are fast, saying I was ready to roll, and will be e mailed with the date of availability in September.  ;D

If the 3PO/R2 were easily found I'd be happy to pick up the Yoda.  It's like a set sort of.  Kind of like the vac metalized figures.  If I'd not gotten Vader then R2, Boba, and the Clonetrooper all would be not quite as "interesting" to me.

As far as the silliness goes, these are kinda silly.  My personal opinion is that time/$ could've been put into something else that I'd have appreciated more, but that's just the way the ball bounces.

It's got nice packaging, I'll give it that, but I could really care less about it since the R2/3PO was non-existant in my neck of the woods.  They'd both display very nicely together though if I had that first set I think.

Anyway, for those really interested in this, more power to 'em...  A new Dagobah Yoda with softgoods and removeable belt/snake accessories would've been much more appealing to me though! :)

I have to disagree that the holiday R2 and 3po are the worst thing ever.  I am a huge holiday nut and this is right up my alley and with Chris being a collector it just adds to it.

Just got the following note!

Scott,

Thank you for signing up for the Lightspeed Pass for Hasbro’s Holiday Yoda figure, presented exclusively by the Official Star Wars Fan Club! Here’s the latest news on how you can order this holiday season’s most-wanted collectible:

As a Lightspeed Pass holder, you’ll be notified via email at the earliest time at which you can order your Holiday Yoda figures. In the first weeks, only those who receive their order notice will be able to purchase the Holiday Yoda online.

Please note that you can order any time after your receive your Lightspeed order notice, but not before. If you cannot get online immediately please rest assured that there are many Holiday Yoda figures in stock – more than enough for all current Lightspeed Pass holders, even if everyone orders the maximum of three figures per person.

We learned some lessons from the rush of orders we received for the silver-painted Boba Fett action figure, and we have worked hard to make the ordering process smoother and more frustration-free. The Lightspeed Pass system should help you order your Holiday Yoda figures with less hassle, and help us better manage the traffic to our website.

Here's the intended schedule:

Lightspeed Pass holders will receive invitations over a two week period in mid to late October. Active subscribers may order the figure any time after receiving their invitation.
Fear not! There are lots and lots of Holiday Yoda figures for our members, so don't fret if you are not in one of the first batches invited to order.

Active subscribers who did not sign-up for Lightspeed Passes will be able to order starting near the end of October.
Lightspeed Pass holders without a currently active subscription toStar Wars Insider will be able to order starting in early November, provided there are Holiday Yoda figures left in stock.
Here’s how you can get ready:

If you have a currently active subscription to Star Wars Insider then we may need you to associate your subscription with your online account if you haven't already. To do this, sign in at http://starwars.paizo.com/mysubs If you ordered or renewed a Star Wars Insider subscription on paizo.com since August 1st, or if you ordered the silver-painted Boba Fett, you won't need to associate your subscription with your account again.
If you have problems associating your subscription with your account, or if you have specific questions about the Holiday Yoda figure, please email us at holiday.yoda@paizo.com If you are not currently a subscriber or have an expired subscription and want to order with your Lightspeed Pass, then subscribe to Insider now at http://starwars.paizo.com/swinsider Thank you for your enthusiasm and let us be the first to wish you a Happy Holidays!

Best regards,

Has anyone else gotten their lightspeed pass e-mails yet besides jadesfire?  I'm all signed up and ready to go, but haven't gotten anything from Paizo yet to give me the green light on ordering.

So how many is everyone going to order?  I noticed they just bumped the Yoda allotment up to four, from three.  I'm curious why they would do such a thing.  I though even three was one too many.  Why would people need four, other than to scalp or use for trade bait?  They sure better have enough of these to go around for EVERYONE or people are going to be really upset, especially with a 4-per allotment.

Are there any more McQuarrie Christmas character sketches that would provide for a third figure in this set next year?  Or is this going to be it?

I got my lightspeed pass on Monday, but unfortunately I am not able to order any.  My wife and I only have a Discover credit card, which they do not accept, so I guess I'm out of luck.  If anyone isn't ordering all four for themselves, I'll gladly pay for one!  Otherwise, I guess I'll have to talk the wife into signing up for another credit card to get one :).

Has anyone else gotten their lightspeed pass e-mails yet besides jadesfire?

Just got mine about an hour ago Grant.  I guess it's a bit of a "staggered" notification schedule Paizo's working with on this one.  That's probably in direct response to getting completely FLOODED when the Silver Fetts went on sale.  Sounded like their site couldn't quite handle that much activity all at once, so they're spacing the invites out a little on the Yoda this time.  Probably a good idea, as long as everyone still gets theirs...

Placed my order and everything seemed to go quite smoothly.  Looking forward to finally having someone to bring poor ol' R2 and 3PO a gift or two, up on the X-mas mantle this year.  8)
Title: Re: Santa Yoda!
Post by: Morgbug on October 22, 2003, 07:29 PM
My guess is the emails go out in order of when individuals signed up for lightspeed passes.  As Matt said, a good idea to stagger the sales to ease the pressure on the system.

Seems no one (i.e. Dale) commented, but Canada sucks for yet another reason.  Paizo shipped the silver Fett's via UPS to Canadian customers.  That's fine, they get here alright, but above and beyond the usual taxes, there is an additional brokerage fee charged.  Pretty much every Canadian member of the fan club got hit with an additional $21.42 worth of cost on the ordering of two silver Fett's >:(  It's not the fault of the fan club, but boy, USPS would be so much better for our end of the bargain.  So two Fett figures cost me $20 US + $10 US shipping + $21.42 Canadian in brokerage fees.  About $60 + Cdn for two figures :-\

Hey Jim, guess where my Santa Yodas are getting delivered. ;D

I got my email from Paizo. I'm with ya Brent. Those brokerage fees are insane. Lots of complaints from that Silver Fett from the the gang up north! I would like to order 2 of them but I am not going to pay those fees.

If anyone is going to order them, I need 2 & can send ya the $$$. Just send me a PM & we can work it out.  :)

Well, I got this in the mail today and it is so cute! I ripped it open and almost tore the bonus Christmas card so be careful if you open it from the back. I'd post my picture of it but am clueless on how you do that.
My Yoda's toy bag comes of so I don't know if they are all like that or if mine wiggled loose from the glue (which I don't see any of).  Yoda holds the top in his hand so it goes right back on.  He's about the size of the action figure and will look great next to C3PO and R2 as the display stands are the same.  Can't wait to dig out my Chirstmas stuff!!

imo, the way they ran this santa yoda promotion was almost as bad as the silver fett fiasco, if not worse.  >:( well maybe not worse.  :( but, i got my "invitation" to order yoda on 10/20. so i went and ordered my 4, because of course i have a bunch of friends that love sw but don't want to pay to join the fc. so i order my 4. they charge my card on 10/22 for the $60.80 that it cost for the 4 yodas. fine. well, here we are, over a month later, and guess what... no yoda. seems that they decided to ship the people who order 1, 2, and 3 yodas first, in that order. and you know what? that sucks. why should i have to wait over a month when people have been getting these 3 weeks ago or more? i know it says 6 weeks, and i guess i'll have my yoda's within that 6 week window, but why not just ship them on a first come first serve basis? or, if you're going to hold my order for 2 months, why charge my card when i first order my items and not when you're getting ready to ship them out, like 99.9% of the "real" online retailers do?  ???
[/rant]

ahhh, all better now  ;D

update: 12/3 and guess what? no santa yoda. guess the six weeks on my calender ran out faster than the fan club calender...  ::) bunch of b.s.

and now they want me to spend more money to renew my subscription and fan club membership? why? so i can get to order things first but have other - non fan club members - receive their items before i get mine?

and what about hyperspace? i won one of the crappy jedimasterpoints auctions for a hyperspace membership and sent my points on 11/18... haven't heard from that yet either. am i surprised? no, just pissed off now...

Hmm...  Would this be a bad time to mention that I finally got my Santa Yodas yesterday?!   :P  I was one of the very first to order, but one of the very last to get them.  I ordered 4 as well (2 for a couple buddies), so I'm wondering if you're right on the correlation between delivery time and quantity ordered Dave...  Where'd you here that, or did you just deduce it on your own?  Might be pretty accurate there.

Cute little bugger this guy is.  Paizo packaged him up quite well - with lots of thick bubble wrap and a very odd shaped box so they all sat in a long row for their trip down here.   8)  Yoda will soon be out with the rest of the Holiday decor, right next to 3PO and R2.   8)

Finally was able to order the other day, though Paizo never returned my email from 11/22. We'll see how long it takes to show up, but from what you guys are saying, it could be a long long time. At least they seem to be good at packing them, which is what counts, I guess.
Title: Re: Santa Yoda!
Post by: jokabofe on December 4, 2003, 10:38 PM
Well, now I see that they are offering the Santa Yoda to everyone, and you can just go on the website and order one. I'm honestly tempted to order another just to see which I get first... the 4 from October or the 1 I order now. I'm so pissed off with this B.S. I've sent 4 emails to the customer service and to Lisa Stevens herself. No answer. Nothing. I guess that's a good sign of things to come from the FC, huh? And in this case, the F in FC doesn't stand for Fan...   ::)
