Post by: Jayson on July 13, 2005, 04:57 PM
Holy Re-re-re-rehash!!!  >:(

From Rebelscum…

The Millennium Falcon has been repackaged in the ROTS graphics and will be out in time for the holidays. HOORAY!!! We can only hope they add the green markings to it like in ROTS.

I was happy when they did the OTC one. Which I waited and got on clearance. This is another lame move. More shelf space devoted to a ship that most of us have and could be used for oh maybe a Gunship or a AT-TE??

OK seriously, is there something going on today that I don't know about  - are the SW fansites joining together to start these facetious rumors or is this really coming out of Comic-Con???

THE MILLENIUM FALCON WAS CLEARANCED OUT AT EVERY MASS RETAILER ASIDE FROM TRU WHERE IT IS STILL $54.99!!!!

I swear, when I saw the thread title I thought you were taking advantage of the chaos and pulling our collective leg, Jay. Alas, it was not to be. :-\

Are they out of their ******* gourd?? These things ARE STILL ******* EVERYWHERE, you morons! >:(

I'm feeling a little less bad about not being able to go to ComicCon and missing seeing this travesty in person.

Good grief. ::)

WHAT THE ******* HELL

There are SO many things wrong with this picture. Where do I begin?

1) The Falcon is not a prequel or ROTS item, and will look stupid in ROTS packaging.

2) The OTC Falcon, as mentioned above, was already clearanced out everywhere except for TRU.

3) TRU still has at least 50 of them as we speak, still at full price.

Just.... I can't think of what to say. Wow.

^ To your first point, the Falcon actually was briefly in ROTS, glimpsed in one of the Coruscant spaceport scenes. And we have it from George himself that it's THE Millennium Falcon, not just an ordinary Corellian freighter like the ones in AOTC.

This is from a StarWars.com article on "Easter Eggs" of ROTS.

Do I need a ROTS version of the MF though? NOPE!!!!!

What I need is an AT-TE or Turbo Tank - not the same vehicle that I could go buy RIGHT NOW from my local TRU!

^ Of course. I was merely pointing out Hasbro's rationale behind the ill-conceived decision.

I know - but a big F-U goes out to GL for even putting such an Easter Egg in ROTS in the first place solely to give Hasbro the ability to re-package the figure. I mean if he wanted the MF in the movie, he should of had it play a more important role - like say instead of using GG's fighter to get of Utapau, Obi-Wan hitches a ride with a smuggler, rides in the hidden compartments and the MF meets up with the Tantive IV.

I can't honestly believe all this bull**** is really true.

This has got to be some kind of disinformation line fed to fan sites so that Hasbro can issue the "real" statement at Comic-Con.

I just can't believe this stupid **** is really real anymore. That seems like a lot of stupid decisions, even for Hasbro.

I laugh at the completists when stuff like this rolls around...

I just spoke with a friend of mine who just found out about this, and he said he has to get it.  Good grief.

Where the hell's the AT-TE and Turbo Tank?  Jesus Christ Hasbro...

At least it sounds like it's a TRU exclusive, so we don't have to worry about it taking up space at Target and Wal-Mart.   :P

My parents bought me the Sam's Club Falcon with the 6 figures at the top.  I love the packaging on that thing.  But I did not have to pay for it since it was a XMas gift.  There was no way I'd actually buy it outright.  I can't imagine why they would want to release this yet again so soon.  Wait a year or two on it.  But at least it's an exclusive.
Title: Re: Millennium Falcon In ROTS Packaging?
Post by: Pete_Fett on July 14, 2005, 12:22 AM
Actually if you take a really good look at the packaging, while the Star Wars logo is in the same color as the ROTS stuff, the packaging front doesn't really have the Lava Artwork that's prevelent on all of the ROTS vehicles. In fact the "shown in fantasy situation" artwork on the front shows the MF evading TIE Fighters in orbit of the Death Star.

I guess that's more exciting than "Here's the MF parked at a docking station, motionless with the landing gear down, and HEY it's a scene from ROTS!" Doesn't have the same ring huh?
Title: Re: Millennium Falcon In ROTS Packaging?
Post by: Nathan on July 14, 2005, 12:57 AM
^ Sorry to be a dick, but the MF "cameo" in ROTS actually showed it in flight, gliding towards a docking area. :)
Title: Re: Millennium Falcon In ROTS Packaging?

Illogical. :P

Perhaps they're just repackaging all the MF's they didn't sell for the OTC.

Jeff - are you serious?  This is a TRU exclusive??

They are still sitting on mounds of the OTC one!

So let me get this scenario straight - TRU will clearance the OTC one out at $30 and have the new ROTS one sitting right next to it at $54.99??!!

Title: Re: Millennium Falcon In ROTS Packaging?
Post by: Brian on July 14, 2005, 08:31 AM
This is just insane.  So far, the announcements/product from Hasbro at Comic Con has been quite disappointing.  As much as I like the Falcon, we certainly don't need to see it released right now again...and most definitely not in ROTS packaging...and most MOST definitely not at TRU.  Same story around here, the OTC one got clearanced out at Wal-Mart and Target, and we still have a ginormous pile of them for $54.99 at TRU.  I'm with the others who have said this almost seems like a joke, because some of these decisions really make absolutely no sense at all.

According to the little sign in front of the Falcon box at SDCC, yep it's a TRU exclusive.  I think the sign mentions an October date as well...

Just getting a chance to sift through all the pictures this morning, and I guess in all fairness the Falcon repack isn't "technically" in a ROTS box.  They took the "Revenge of the Sith" part off of the logo, and the box is new/different, and it just has a lava-ish colored "Star Wars" logo on it.  So, I guess it isn't quite as bad.  I don't necessarily mind seeing the Falcon repacked...and the new pics on the back are kind of neat....but I don't think it needed to be done so quickly after the OTC version.

I read over at GH.com that the price will be $40...now I'm definitely buying one!

 ;)

From GH.com:

A shock, there were new vehicles. The Toys "R" Us exclusive blue Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter was on display and we were very happy to see it. Also exclusive to Toys "R" Us is the Millennium Falcon from 2004 in a new box-- it is not the blue-tinted version seen on screen in Revenge of the Sith. These are $30 and $40 respectively.

I wonder if the MF packaging reflects the style of the new figure cards that we be out after the ROTS well has dryed.
Title: Re: Millennium Falcon In ROTS Packaging?
Post by: ruiner on July 14, 2005, 01:47 PM
I doubt it.

I think I read somewhere that we'll see a resurgence of the OTC style cards...with a different logo.

So, can TRU really hold all of these? I was just in the only local one, and they're clogged with OTC Falcons, ARC fighters, ROTS Jedi, and VOTC Landos. Hell, they don't even have enough pegs to hold all the figs, as they're spread out in different parts of the store. It's rather sad, really. I know they don't have room for this, unless they have a huge clearance sale, which is highly unlikely.

I haven't been following this too closely, but is this the first one spotted at retail?

i saw this as well, but when i picked it up to see the back, it felt very light and seemed like TRU employees simply switch the OTC box to the ROTS??

i hope it goes on clearance after the holiday season..i'd say 19.99 then i'll pick one up  8)

I'll actually wait until I see this thing or the previous one go on clearance. Both over way overstocked at the local TRU's. If I don't get it, no biggie.

Yep, saw it yesterday for $54.99
Title: Re: Millennium Falcon In ROTS Packaging?
Post by: Brian on September 12, 2005, 09:25 AM
I saw a couple of these yesterday for $54.99.  I do have the POTF2 version, but always kind of wanted to get the "new" Saga (now ROTS) version with the updated "light up" feature, etc.  But, I just can't make myself pay $55 for it.  I'm waiting (hoping) for a clearance, our TRU has plenty in both box styles now ;).
Title: Re: Millennium Falcon In ROTS Packaging?
Post by: SilverZ on September 12, 2005, 09:23 PM
I think the vehicle has always been worth it for the new engine feature, plus it uses a better plastic that I just like the feel of better than the POTF2 version. I think it's certainly an item to own a version of.

But buying a second 54.99 vehicle just because the packaging is different is even beyond my boundaries. It will have to be had for 19.99 or less for me to play that.

They should (and could have easily) made this a ROTS Falcon by adding the blue deco to it. Instant repurchase.

Honestly, I'd like to know the rate of sale on this ROTS version.  It's got to be horrible.  The OTC one made sense because A.) It had been close to 7 years without a Falcon and B.) it had tooling / mods incorporated.

This ROTS version makes no sense from both the retailer's perspective and Hasbro's.

Someone had to know that TRU was still sitting on MOUNDS of the OTC one....
Title: Re: Millennium Falcon In ROTS Packaging?

Yeah, I don't quite understand it either.  These popped up at our local TRU a couple of weeks ago, and haven't moved an inch.  Our TRU still has piled of the OTC one, and those aren't selling either.  It doesn't help that they are priced at $54.99 either.  I'd still like to get one with the "new mods", since I didn't pick one up during the OTC run.  I told my wife its a nice Christmas idea, because I'm not spending $55 for what is essentially a ship I already have.  The mods look neat, but not quite that neat ;).

The rationale behind a completely repackaged, 50 dollar plus toy baffles me, especially when there was not that much demand for it to be rereleased.  An AT-AT, I could understand, since that has not been available since the TRU clearances of 2000, but the Falcon, which is collecting dust at every TRU I've been in (a grand total of 2; this study is invalid due to the small sample size  ;D )?  It boggles the mind.

And for those of you that would want it just for the toy and who couldn't care less about the box, I've seen it at several K-Marts on road trips (regretfully none local) on clearance for 25-30 dollars, so caveat emptor. ;)

It looks like they might finally be clearing out the OTC version to make room for the RotS version:

Falcon at Amazon.com for $39.99 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0009F3ERW/jedidefend-20/)

Not a bad price for those looking to grab an opener of the updated Falcon...

But tack on shipping and you're up to $55!  ;D

I should've bought the OTC version when it was on clearance at WallyWorld for $25...

Stopped in at TRU yesterday, and noticed they have a whole bunch of these new packaged Falcons (as well as the OTC ones still) piled high.  They have created a "Star Wars endcap" in the back corner of the store, filled with Vader helmets, Falcons, and a couple of the Obi-Wan fighters.  They did have the Falcon "on sale" for $44.95 now, and I would still eventually like to get one, but it still seems like a lot since I already have the POTF2 one.  I told my wife she could get it for me for Christmas, so maybe then.  I'm sure they will still be there, probably back up to their original $55 price ;).

I saw that too it's in this weeks' ad for 44.95. I wonder if that will be a temporary or permanent price.

I stopped by the "area" TRU earlier today and I've never seen so many Falcons in my life.  They had at least 10 of the OTC version still on the shelves, and about 10 of the "new" ROTS boxed version on the overhead/overstock shelf.  Then I go around the corner and there are about 4 more ROTS ones on an endcap identical to the one mosnab mentioned.

The funniest part of all this was about an hour later when I stopped at a Wal-Mart about 20 miles away.  There was a guy (younger than me, making me feel horribly old) with his son looking through the SW stuff, and the guy asked me which one of the Anakins was the best one.  I told him and he got the #2 (just my opinion) and then said that he was looking for a Millennium Falcon but WM didn't seem to have one.  I told him that TRU was the only store that had them right now and he said, "Well that's strange.  Why would only one store get a toy that recognizable?"

The even funnier thing is that I told him the K-Mart a mile down the road had one in the clearance aisle (the OTC version) for 25 bucks.  The smile on his and his kid's face was priceless.  I assume that they're all sitting around putting labels on their new and cheap Falcon while TRU employees are building forts out of the Falcons they have on the shelves.  :)
