Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Sony PlayStation 3

Anyone have a Slim PS3 and owned the Fat PS3 before?  How do you like it?

I had the 60GB model so I miss the card slots, but apart from that the slim version is a lot quieter and seems to use less power.

I used to have rats, they're amazing pets. Now I've got 2 Standard Poodles called Viggo (5) and Amy (8 months)

Watto's Junk Yard / Recording hi-def tv shows?
« on: May 31, 2008, 01:08 PM »
Anyone got any ideas how to archive recorded HD TV programmes? I have a Sky HD HDD recorder but the HD shows on there eat up my disc space really fast. I know I can record to DVD but then I'm downscaling to SD.

In the UK it appears that Blu-Ray recorders are not available, is this the situation elsewhere? Ideally I would like to connect my Sky box to some sort of bluray recorder to record in 720p or even 1080i (Sky don't broadcast in 1080p) but nothing seems to exist to let me do this. I have a bluray-writer on my PC so perhaps there's a way of utilising this?

Copying HD shows MUST be possible because...apparently...you can...ahem...download them form the internet

Any ideas?

And the ending was a bit Empire Strikes back...you'll see what I mean on Friday  ;)

Billy Dee Williams and Chewbacca go hunting for #3 who is being held captive in a carbonite block?

While Billy boy, Chewie and 3 weren't actually in the episode, one character found themselves in a (sort of) Lando/Chewie end of ESB situation and a whole bunch of people were in a similar position to #3 (but as in captive not "boxed"). Main difference would be that there was no carbonite involved.   So just like ESB. In a way. Sort of.

Also someone was someone’s father.

What if the reason Kara Thrace is the harbinger of death for humanity is because when she leads humanity to earth it turns out that the people already there are actually Cylons or Human/Cylon hybrids from thousand(s) years ago.

In Razer, does the hybrid say she is the harbinger of death for humanity, or just the harbinger of death? Without the humanity note, it could mean the cylons.

I checked (still have on my HDD box) and it's specifically humanity.

Episode 8 was shown in the UK tonight...one of the best for a while imho :)

No spoilers but I'll just say that the "finding Earth" and the "mystery of the Five" plots didn't go much further this week.  It was more of a character episode.  Everyone's favourite lawyer and his cat are back and we find out that Tigh has an ability you wouldn't think a normal Cylon would have: perhaps adding evidence that the last revealed four are not regular Cylons.  And the ending was a bit Empire Strikes back...you'll see what I mean on Friday  ;)

Episode 8 is on in the UK on Tuesday so I'll get to tell everyone what happens for once instead of the other way round ;D

As for the Master, he was on Regeneration #13 in the Tom Baker years and was decaying essentially.  He took over someones body in one episode.  I forget who it was, but he had black hair and a goatee.

That's right, I think it was Nyssa's father.

Tremas, which is an anagram of something  ;D

He's supposed to turn evil somewhere between life 12 and 13 (according to Trial of a Time Lord)  I'm not sure that the 12 regeneration thing applies in the new series, I don't think it's been mentioned.  The Doctor's age certainly doesn't tie up with the classic series as the 7th doc was 953 when he started his reign.  The time lords reset the Master's lives so I suppose anything is possible and during the classic series he got by with stealing bodies!

Ood were on a few hours ago...another very good episode.  Would be interested to hear what you guys think of the Ood's "prediction" at the end of the ep when you see it.

I quite enjoyed the episode and agree that CT had been much toned down and looks like she's going to be very good.  I've got the next episode in my top 10 of all Whos (classic and new) although I know some people will hate it. Tate was even better and appears to be able to keep the Doctor on the right track morally.  Ood are in Ep 3 tomorrow night - nice to see the US is much closer to our (the UK's) transmission dates this series.

Catherine Tate was the best thing about the season opener imo and is in all 13 episodes with Martha coming back half way through the run.  DT will be in the 3 specials in 2009 but it's not yet known if he'll be in Series 5 (if there is one).

Edit: also saw the end of Torchwood 2: you're not kidding about S3 being different! Probably won't want to watch it now  ;D

Just finished the second season. Really good season, but it won't be the same next year.  :(

Sounds bad :( I'm on catch-up this week so I'll find out what you mean very soon :)

I delete as soon as I've watched the shows, apart from some favourites which I'll keep until the DVD comes out - stuff like Ashes to Ashes and the new series of Doctor Who.  My problem is that when I record HD shows it takes up so much space and there's currently no easy way of backing stuff up in full HD.  For SD programs I'll put them on DVD-RW and then recode them in xvid of mp4 and store them on my PS3 as I find it looks great on there and takes up less space than on my DVR.

I should bloody well hope my posts haven't changed.  That would mean either I was off my face or that people behind the scenes were altering things  ;D

I'm OK now that I've got my 360 and PS3@1080p but I was struggling with downscaled 1080i for a while  ;)

I have to work with computers all day long and Vista/Office 2007 is really doing my head in.  Everything’s in a different place or called something else.  I think I’m going to have to retrain to do something else.
