Modern Classifieds / Wanted: CIV Collectors' Panels Medallions
« on: May 29, 2007, 01:47 PM »
Ya know, it's a long shot, but I've gotta try. I'm seeing if anyone has any medallions from the CIV collectors' panels that they'd be willing to part with. These were those super-cool medallions given away free during the various panelled discussions at Celebration. I'm really wanting the Stormtrooper medallion, but any would be great, as well, to possibly ultimately trade for the Stormie version. Here's what the medallions look like:

Medallions

And in case there's any doubt as to how much of a nut I am for Stormie stuff, here's a link to my nutcase.  :P

Thanks for any help!

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Gas Prices
« on: May 22, 2007, 06:01 PM »
How is gas only a few pennies more out there in CA?  I always thought you guys were at least fifty cents more than anywhere else....

In general, CA is higher than the rest of the nation, but it's a big state, and prices vary according to location. LA proper and SF Bay Area have some of the highest prices in the state. I live in San Jose, and work closer to SF. The closer I get to SF, the higher the price. The station by my home was $3.45 yesterday. About 20 miles north (where I work) was $3.57 yesterday.  :-\

Yeah, that same station that had $3.64 a gallon last week, was at $3.57 yesterday.

Needless to say, I filled up. Also needless to say, with my luck, the price will be $3.50 today.  :P

Yeah, thanks for jinxing it, Jesse!  ;)

I'm really surprised at how Detroit is handling Anaheim, and just slightly surprised at the Ottawa/Buffalo series. Of those four teams, I was really thinking it would be a Ducks/Sabres finals. I supposed for ratings, though, a Detroit/Ottawa finals may have a better draw.

$3.64 at the Valero near my work.

It's funny, but if you go back to page 11 or so of this thread, you can see how relative the price bitching is. We were bemoaning $2.29 gas back then, but we'd all kill (well, severely maim) for that price right now. I wonder how long it'll be until I start wishing gas was $3.64 a gallon.  :-\

Now, how are we supposed to know that?

Your strategy was the same as mine. Thanks for the tip! I just may be able to sleep tonight.

well...30 i've been stuck on for a while trying to bounce off a frozen egg with no luck, but just passed that level by an accidental fluke.

Care to share that fluke? By a cruel and senseless quirk, I can't seem to get any work done without knowing I've mastered level 30.  :P ;)

Well, unfortunately the Sharks are gone...again. I knew that as soon as they lost game 4 (tied in the last seconds, and lost in OT), that they were toast. It was just too much of a momentum swing. Good going to the Redwings, though. I really think the Ducks will take it all, now.

As of this moment, nothing. I'm stuck at work right now waiting for the tow truck to pick both me and my '95 Infiniti G20 and take us to the mechanic. It's really on it's last gasp. We just had a new alternator installed a week and a half ago, and it seems like something breaks on that piece of crap car every month. When the alternator blew, I was on the freeway going home, but "luckily" I was in traffic in the right lane, so I could easily just pull over.

The problem now seems like the same deal (no power to start, etc.), but what the hell do I know. The rub this time is that our other car (a 2006 Kia Sedona van) is getting its 7500 mile scheduled maintenance done today. So, our family is officially without an available car right now. This oughta be interesting to see how we pick the van up tonight. I fear a car rental is definitely in our future.

Just purchased several figures from Ricardo, and everything went great. Definitely a great deal, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from him again!  :)

So, we're through the first round, and the Sharks are still going strong. Let's see how the teams are doing (my picks in bold):

Buffalo over Islanders
NJ over TB  - closer than I thought
Rangers over Atl  - glad it went this way, but still thought Atl had more than they gave
Ottawa over Pitt  - I really don't understand what went wrong here.

Detroit over Calgary
Anaheim over Wild  - the Ducks just looked scary in this series
Vancouver over Dallas
Sharks over Nashville  - I sure thought it was going to be closer than it was, but am overjoyed at the outcome.

Here's a revision of what I think will happen in the second round:

Buffalo over NY (I predict a squeaker)
NJ over Ottawa  (I think NJ is really going to start shining, now)

Sharks over Detroit (I'm actually more confident for the Sharks in this series than I was with the Preds)
Anaheim over Canucks (I think the Ducks are going to roll in this series)

Yeah, it's really coming together. I just checked, and it looks as though my four stormies were put to good use!  :)

That's awesome that so many fellow JDers live in a single metropolitan area (and are willing to actually get together). That's a great pic.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Virginia Tech tragedy
« on: April 18, 2007, 11:43 AM »
Whenever I read of a tragedy such as this, I immediately get this sickening dullness in my gut. I try to resist the urge to watch, listen to and read all about the horror, but inevitably I'm drawn back. I want to know what could possibly motivate someone to be so hateful. Was it one event? Was it a horrible childhood? The loss of loved ones? And these are all aimed not by just simple curiosity, but instead by a need to prevent anything like this from happening to the people around me.

From what I've read, this troubled shooter wrote about his hate toward women, rich kids and religion, specifically Christianity. Also, all the descriptions of this guy say he was just socially inept, scary and disturbed. He wouldn't talk to anyone, and all his "poetry" and writing was filled with disturbing violence. My knee-jerk thoughts point to his upbringing and his relationships with his parents (specifically the mom), but it could be anything else. I just hope that they eventually piece together the reasons why this guy did this.
