Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Shoes, Sneaks, Kicks - What Do You Wear?
« on: July 11, 2008, 12:44 PM »
I've always had a proclivity toward shoes that use primary or secondary colors and that are NOT full price. For a while I was on a Puma kick (pun intended). My first pair were blue with yellow laces and stripes...I paid $12. Then I moved on to a red and white Puma for around $15 (these were my favorite). Next, I moved on to my Converse stage. I obtained a pair of red and blue All-Stars for $11 that were awesome (they were the kind without the white toe). And finally, since Target has been carrying Converse, I got a pair white-toed red low All-Stars on clearance for $12. Someday, I'd love to own a pair of orange sneaks. Really.

Kubricks / before Kubricks were hip
« on: July 9, 2008, 03:13 PM »
Just for nostalgia...
What a difference 6 1/2 years makes!

I remember when I started that thread I felt like the only person outside of Japan that had heard of Kubricks. And what's really strange, I still have yet to obtain an "official" Kubrick Stormtrooper.  :P

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Best Restaurant In Your Town
« on: July 9, 2008, 12:56 PM »
The best restaurant I've ever been to, and I get excited just thinking about it, is Millennium in San Francisco. I've been there about three times and every time I feel as if I really don't know what food is supposed to taste like until I've tasted it at Millennium. From the drinks to the appetizers, to the entrees, to the desserts, everything is truly original, delicious and satisfying. The atmosphere is elegant but not stuffy, and the wait staff have always been happy, friendly, and helpful. And what makes this truly special to me is that the menu is completely meat, fish, poultry, dairy and egg free. Yup, that's right, no animal products whatsoever. And no, it's not a menu consisting of salads and tofu balls. Every item on the menu is a feast for the eyes and palate that any non-vegetarian would savor. And as an added bonus, though it's a restaurant offering vegan food, it's not full of damn, dirty vegans.  ;)

I'm deeply sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Take solace that your were with him at the end. You are a great son and be proud of all that you did for your dad.

Don't hold in the tears; let 'em flow. It does get better.

My thoughts are with you, JediTray. I've just gone through something similar with my own family, and it's heartwrenching, emotionally and physically draining, and all-encompassing. Going through it, though, just reaffirms my thankfulness for the people that work for hospice organizations. Best wishes to you and your family during this extremely difficult time.

Nah, never had a Canadian carded Trooper. Japanese, Italian, German, Argentine, UK, yes, but no Canadian. It's funny, but it seems like the Canadian would be easier to get than the others.  :)

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Official Movie Thread

And now back to reviews of movies for people that don't get out much... ;)

I finally saw Juno and There Will be Blood this weekend.

Juno was nice and enjoyable, though I really didn't think it was Academy Award-nomination worthy. I did think the whole moral issue of abortion was treated very fairly and wasn't necessary skirted or taken lightly.

There Will be Blood was probably the most awesome-looking film I've ever seen (and I don't even have a great tv or anything). And paired with the dissonant soundtrack, the movie was even more foreboding. The story was a little thin, but Daniel Day-Lewis more than made up for any minuses.

Star Wars 20B - AFA graded 80 - C80 B85 F85 - $220

Star Wars 20H - AFA graded 80 - C80 B85 C80 - $200

Star Wars 20B with Takara sticker - AFA graded 75 - C75 B70 F80 - $250
Honestly, I don't understand the grades on this one. The bubble doesn't have any dents or creases and is firmly secured to the card, so I'm not sure what warrants a B70. And the card is unpunched and extremely clean, so the C75 is another head-scratcher.

ESB 31b - $80
Very nice clean bubble; gun still firmly in figure's hand. The card lays flat. There is an obvious crease at the top right of the card and obvious evidence of a price sticker at the top left. The picture actually accentuates both these flaws, but in person, they seem less obvious. The lower left corner is bent slightly, and there are a couple creases on the back of the card.

ESB 41a - $90
Very nice bubble. The gun has partially come loose from the tape inside the bubble, and the tape has yellowed considerably. The card lays flat. There is residue from a price sticker on the upper front of the card, and there are small creases near the punch on both the front and back of the card.

ESB 47 - $100
The bubble has yellowed, but is dent free and the gun is still firmly taped to the bubble. There is evidence of a price sticker at the top right of the card and it looks as though it's been filled in with some black marker ink. The card lays flat and there are very slight creases near the top of the card.

ROTJ 65b - $60
Unpunched, with minor creases and a yellow bubble. Card lays very flat. Very nice!

ROTJ 79a - $45
Unpunched card. Bubble is yellow with a little bit of tape residue on the bottom of the bubble. The gun has come out of the tape in the bubble, but isn't entirely loose. There is tape on the back of the card which has just slightly torn the back side of the card. The card lays very flat.

ROTJ Top Toys - $90
The bubble is in very good condition with no dents. The gun is still taped firmly to the bubble. The card is very nice and lays very flat. There is a slight crease at top near the punch. The right arm of the figure appears to be yellowing only slightly.

ROTJ Trilogo - $70
Very nice unpunched card. There are only a couple creases at top front near punch. As with most trilogos, the very thin bubble plastic is dented pretty much all around, and this has resulted in cracks at the top and bottom of the bubble. However, these cracks haven't turned into gaping holes, and there's no danger of the gun falling out. The bubble actually displays fairly well.

Damn, I'm real disappointed that Nabokov didn't get the Vezina, especially after the season he had. Brodeur and Nabokov had almost identical stats, but I think the nod goes to Nabokov since he led in W, GAA and SO. Plus, Brodeur's already got a enough Vezina's

GP  GS   MIN         W    L   OTL   GA   GAA   SV%   ENG   SO
Brodeur     77   77   4635:03   44  27    6    168   2.17  .920     8      4
Nabokov    77   77   4560:56   46  21    8    163   2.14  .910     6        6

Just viewed Gone Baby Gone this weekend. This was an awesome flick, much in the same genre as Mystic River. Don't let the fact that it was directed by Ben Affleck and starred Casey Affleck prevent you from seeing it. Really, an extremely well-done movie...but extremely depressing. If you've got kids, you may want to think twice about seeing it, though.  :'(

TV-9D9 / Re: The SW Saga on Television
« on: May 21, 2008, 01:56 PM »
I've liked having the SW movies on tv every Sunday night recently. It's a refreshing choice from the usual crap on Sundays.

The only thing I really hate, though, is that it seems every commercial break on Spike has an advertisement of some sort for UFC. Like anyone needs to see that crap.

Hot as blazes here. It was 92 on Wednesday, topped out at 100 yesterday, and the forecast is for 97 today and 93 tomorrow. They say it may get back down to normal (75) by Tuesday, thank goodness. But until then, let the suffering continue.

Thanks, Jesse. I'm going to give some feedback to the company and let 'em know what happened. I don't want any compensation, but I do think it's in their best interest to know I'm dissatisfied. Thanks, again.
