An image of Scythe from the end of the Geonosis story-arc turned up...

Pretty interesting. Seems a lot more tuned into a battlepack, to me.
-
Yeah, I saw that somewhere too...does not seem to be from any existing BP we know about on the horizon, but I agree it seems sort of lackluster as a single carded release. Probably from something we haven't seen yet.
That whole Geonosis arc has been a gold mine of figures, just wish we could get some of the vehicles.
-
It's great to see more clones with unique head sculpts/paints. I am still a little disappointed that Jesse did not come with a removable helmet to show off his head tattoo.
-
The Fives and Echo from the Defend Kamino BP I now have have a different head scuplt to the standard Clone head sculpt being released since CW started in 08.
-
I think Scythe is going to be in the rumored 2pks (http://banthaskull.com/index.php/site/more_clone_wars_2_packs_coming/) that surfaced a couple days ago. I found an eBay auction today (http://yakfaceforums.com/main/2011/07/06/clone-trooper-gearshift-revealed/) that has a new 212th Clone as well (Gearshift probably) that has lights added to the helmet. My guess is that Scythe and "X" will be in one of the 2pks while Gearshift and a Zombie Geonosian will be in the other.

Hopefully they will toss in some more brain worms with both packs too... that'd be a nice touch.
-
So any more clues as to where this guy might be showing up?

Walmart DVD 2-Packs -
(http://www.jedidefender.com/jmccracken/SDCC2011/Slide24.jpg)
-
These are both In Stock now at Toy Palace.
So you could order these Walmart exclusives from an online retailer in a foreign country thousands of miles away and still have them before brick and mortar stores here in the States ever even think about putting them out on the shelves.
That's messed up.
-
Or you could order them and they show up next week. :)
-
These DVD packs should be saved for recards, not new figures.

They had been. But WalMart is a pretty powerful retailer, and all too often they're calling the shots with their suppliers. That might be the case here. I've been avoiding the previous DVD 2-pack releases at WalMart because they've been pure reissues. But perhaps WalMart saw that they lost most of the collector market because of that?
-
I was trolling through my "needs" spreadsheet this AM and came across these - I had forgotten about them...
Now I'm wondering if these were cancelled in the USA or are they still coming? I thought they would have hit with the other Fall 2011 WM exclusives (BARC/AT-RT), but nothing around these parts. Any of you guys with 2012 reset Walmarts seeing peg space labelled for these?
-
These things continue to haunt me...I can't imagine they would have been cancelled, with all the tooling costs incurred, DVD production, etc, but the extended delay is mystifying.
I think it's a very Q&A worthy question. Habsro could at least confirm whether the domestic versions of these things were actually produced or not. It's possible they made them and handed them off to Wally and have no clue beyond that.
I have not noticed peg space for these in the Walmarts that have reset near me, but I will be sure to check next time I go.
-
There is no real "new" tooling other than Gearshift's helmet so I think their investment would be minimal. I still say this will be out in some form in the US.
-

I checked at 3 different Walmarts I hit today and none of them had any shelf or peg space labeled for these. It's possible they could tweak some things in the future...one can only hope.
Someone's GOTTA corner Hasbro on this during Toy Fair, just to find out once and for all what's up.
-
Well, I finally caved today. Given the recent news about the Mando Transport, and Hasbro's piss-poor management of this line in general now, I finally decided these things are never coming out here so I placed my order for both sets from Toy Palace.
The Euro versions come without the DVD, unfortunately, but I never plan to open these up anyway so it really doesn't matter.
It was not a cheap option, but these things are only going to get harder and harder to find as time goes by, I'll wager. The set with Gearshift has not popped up on eBay for months.
Plus it's not like I have any new toys to buy from this line for the next two months. :(
-
Did we get an answer from Hasbro on the fate of these?
-
To my knowledge, no one asked specifically about these, sadly, but given their response on the Mandalorian Transport, you can sort of guess. Both the 2-packs were in the SOTDS packaging, and they pretty much said there is no place for that at retail anymore. I am still hopeful some of the domestic versions actually got produced and will show up someplace eventually, but that may be a longshot. The Euro packaging is a lot more plain-jane.
Sucks, these were by far the best of all those DVD 2-packs. They finally figured out to put new figures in those things and then this happens.
-
Didn't they say Wal-Mart had taken delivery of these, though?

Didn't they say Wal-Mart had taken delivery of these, though?
Wow, no, I have heard nothing like that. At least not at Jedi Temple Archives, Galactic Hunter, Rebelscum, Echo Base News, Imperial Holocron, or here at JD. I really scoured the internets for info on these before I resorted to buying them overseas, but it's possible I missed something at one of the other sites.
If you can find any kind of source for that, please post it, as that would be fantastic info to have confirmed.
Thanks!

What was really new about these? The Clones? In the grand scheme of things those aren't a tremendous loss, but I think we may see those some time this year. It's been said before and it bears repeating: If Hasbro has shown a product publically, then more than likely it's going to make it's way to market. They've shown a committment to doing that time and again, even if it take a while.

The Clones in each set were new, yes: Gearshift and Scythe. You also get some cool molded brain worms too.
I'm not so sure this will ever see a mass release here in the States. Hasbro has already stated that stores are not carrying forward any SOTDS merchandise, which is how both of these sets were to be packaged domestically.
As far as them showing these publically, well, they have made their way to market - overseas and in Canada. we're just not likely to get them here I think. Hasbro may repackage the clones somewhere down the line in a BP or something like that, but I don't think we're likely to see that this year, if ever.
I do hope I'm wrong though, I would much prefer to have the SOTDS packaged version with the DVD included. I just don't feel great about the prospects right now.
-
Got these both today in the mail...very nice additions to the MOC collection.
Interesting that Gearshift is only referred to as "Clone Trooper". I figured he would at least be identified on the cardback but nope, just plain old clone trooper.
FWIW, the brain worms in the other set with Scythe are unique sculpts compared to the ones that came with Barriss. Very well done.
-
Could these be hitting eventually in the Maul-type packaging? While I would have preferred they show up on the SOTDS packaging, but I'd be okay with them on the 2012 packaging just to have them...

I think it's possible, but depends a lot on whether any of these were actually produced for Walmart in the SOTDS packaging or not. I think that is still a big unanswered question at this point.
The other problem is that the DVD's themselves are sort of redundant because those episodes are so old now and have long been available in the season set.
I'm thinking these would probably make for a good potential battlepack down the road though, just leave out either Ahsoka or Obi-Wan. I'd buy 'em again, no doubt.
-
I think it is more likely these become Entertainment Earth exclusives or are sold in mass to Big Lots, Ross, Kohls or some other smaller discount chains with toy departments. I sure hope they make it somewhere.
-
These are showing up at TJ Maxx & Marshalls (http://yakfaceforums.com/main/2012/03/15/canceled-walmart-2-pack-found-at-retail-in-us/).
-
Wow, sure glad I dropped a bill to have the Euro versions shipped all the way from Germany. ::)
That is some really good scoop, Jayson. All the sites this morning are harping on those 2 eBay auctions going on right now, but I talked to that seller last night and he did not find them at stores, he works for some kind of toy review company and they just happened to discover a box in their stockroom or something to that effect.
So it's very nice to have confirmation these are actually hitting brick and mortars. I now know what I am doing on my lunch hour today. :)

So glad they're not hitting Ross. TJX seems to stock much more consistently on a store-to-store basis than Ross so I'm sure these sets will be fairly easy to acquire.
-
Saw the one with Ahsoka at a Marshalls today, not the other one. $10 as said. Not worth it to me, though the clone is at least the good old body, not the somewhat feminine under-articulated Stone body (which is more show accurate, which I don't care about).

I checked my local TJ Maxx and Marshall's yesterday after work (interestingly, both stores are in the same shopping center), and there was no sign of these sets. But, it wasn't a totally wasted trip: I got a Polly Pockets set for my daughter, and I got the TVC Mace Windu (they had tons of the AOTC wave) for $4.99.
-
Great success on my lunch run yesterday...TJ Maxx was a bust but I found a whole case of these at Marshall's and bought them all. ;D
I definitely like 'em more than the blander DVD-less Euro versions.
I wonder what kind of quantities these were produced in, and if they will dry up quickly again or linger for awhile.
It would sure be nice to see the Mandalorian Assault Transport and Scout Bomber start turning up at these places too...
ps - why do I always see hot, sort of trashy women at these stores? who knew?
-
Always hotties looking for "bargain" clothes. Like there's always at least one cashier at Target who fills out her khakis nicely. :)
Seeing the bids on that Ahsoka set (over $40!), I wish I'd gotten one to resell. But I think most people are wise now and/or there'll be dozens listed within a week.
-
I hit up a local TJ Maxx last night (Minneapolis), but no luck. Doesn't seem like they're hitting this area, or at least not yet.
-
I scored a set of these today. They're okay for $10. Especially when you consider that CW basic figures cost at least $7.99 each.
-
Looks like the scuzzballs who thought they'd take advantage of these hitting will be taking a bath on eBay. Nice!
-
Four Marshalls in four days and nada to show for it. I guess they're just not hitting my area.

Whoops, you're right. My apologies... I was browsing on my phone when I did that and damned if I didn't think you were the same guy. :) I was looking right at you saying you'd found them, then thinking you said you didn't, and just went right to quotes. :) Sorry man.
Glad at least someone found them because I didn't either. I was all set to pick a set up for here thinking with all the TJ Maxx/Marshalls around that I'd find them but nope.
-

I'm gonna try to find them again today. Back to the Marshalls near work, because I really want a shot at getting that Scythe figure (not too interested in Gearshift, though).
-
These wound up hitting here this past week, and I bought the only set with the brain works that I saw. Marshalls had 1 of the Obi set, and TJ Maxx had 2 of it left. Figured I'd get it for trade bait if someone needed it, and take it back if they don't I guess.
