Title: Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter
Post by: dustrho on June 14, 2003, 08:31 PM
Anyone read this book yet?  I'm almost finished with it, and I think it's an awesome book!  I love the characters Lorn Pavan and I-Five.  They were just as great together as Han Solo and Chewbacca.  Darsh Assant is another great character.

Does anyone know if there are any other books out there with Darth Maul in them (except EP1)?  Darth Maul was awesome in this book!

I read it when it first came out about 2 1/2 years ago.  Actually, I met my girlfriend by discussing this book.  I later furnished her with a copy and she dug it.  We're still together 2 1/2 years later  :D  Who knew Darth Maul could set such a romantic tone?

SPOILER

The book was phat.  My favorite scene was when Maul showed up at the Neimodian 's apt to finish him off and came under attack from the doorway after wiping out those guys sitting around the table.   The best part was when he used his lightsaber to go spinning through the wall and escape.

SPOILER

It was also cool how Lorn found Maul in the end with his back to him and could either take 1 shot with his blaster set for "kill" or 2-3 shots set for "stun".  Judging from where he hit Maul with the first shot, I bet he wishes it was set for "kill" !!!!

Right between the shoulder blades.

Anyone have a hard cover copy they'd want to part with(trade/sell).  I collect Hardcover books that I like and could only find the paperback of this one... :-\

It originally came out in hardcover, so it really shouldn't be that hard to find in any bookstore or off eBay.  And yes, you could definitely try Barnes & Noble too.

I'm in the middle of reading it now.  What a great book so far!  I'm only in chapter 17 and Maul is fast becomming one of my favorite bad guys in the Star Wars universe.

Are there any more books out with him as a main character?  This book adds alot of depth to him that you never see in the first movie that he's not in nearly enough :'(

Well, there is "Saboteur" that's an e-book, but it's included in the paperback version of "Shadow Hunter"

To find others just do a search on Barnes & Noble's website... http://www.barnesandnoble.com.

Talk about an awesome score there Lemon-Viper!  That's sweet!  Does it by chance have the short story "Saboteur" in the back of it?  I think that was only in the paperback version.  It was originally an e-book.

Nope.  I have the paperback version too though.  I bought it for a buck about a week ago.  I'll keep it to read the short story.  Is the book before Shadow Hunter any good?  They had that for $3 too.  I forget what it's called but it had Qui-Gon Jinn and the head bad dude from Superman 2 on the cover... :)

Cloak of Deception is the name of it!  Just checked theforce.net.  Any good?

Cloak of Deception, I just found the name on theforce.net.  It's chronological list said it was the previous book to Shadow Hunter.

Just picked up both Cloak of Deception and Phantom Menace in HB for a total of $6 plus tax.  The bargain shelves at Half-price book store are awsome!

I realize the last post on this was some two years ago, but I just started on a Hard Cover book buying spree because my wife is setting up a library in our den.  I thought that I'd let the Star Wars novels take a prominent spot on the shelves, so I started with this book.  In the last three weeks, I've gotten about 20 HC books off ebay for almost nothing (I paid $6 including shipping for this one and it's in mint condition).

Anyway, I really liked this book.  The character development was really good and you get a better sense of what Maul is all about.  This book combined with the Dark Horse comics series on him are a really good combination.  My only regret in reading this book was that you can pretty much guess how it's going to end after the first 5-6 chapters.

Also, for anyone who has not read this book or Cloak of Deception by James Luceno, read that book first.  I wish I would have read this thread prior to starting Shadow Hunter, because now I'm reading Cloak of Deception and a lot of the characters and situations from Cloak of Deception carryover into Shadow Hunter.  I'm only about half way through CofD, but it is a really good read.  It sets up the events from EP1 in a much better light.  Luceno gives a lot of depth to the origins of the Trade Federation and the discontent in the Senate.

I highly recommend both of these books to anyone looking to bolster their pre-EP1 knowledge.
