30th Anniversary Collection / Re: 30AC "Vintage" Wave

Thanks for the info, everyone. I may have to try that. One last question- Once you get what you want from the case, what then? Just say "Thanks. Bye." and leave them with the case? The only reason I ask is because nothing pisses me off more than the sloppy collectors and/or scalpers who go in & rip through everything leaving the area looking like a tornado hit it. Gives the rest of us normal collectors a bad name.

Found me an Obi/ARC set this evening at a local TRU. Is it just me or does the mohawk off-center when the ARC trooper's helmet is on. Crooked mohawk aside, the new ARC is 1,000,000% better than the original.

Newbies / Greetings!
« on: May 17, 2007, 05:26 PM »
Hey folks.

I'm fairly new to the Jedi Defender forums. I've been checking out the site for a few months now, but just finally got around to posting. I've been a Star Wars geek coming up on 30 years now. I live in Omaha NE, been married for 8 1/2 years to a very cool lady who gets and puts up with my geekiness. We have 2 kids- ages 6 & 2 with another on the way in July. I am slowly but surely turning them into SW geeks too. My main focus of SW collecting is the figures. I wish I could say I had them all from the modern lines, but I don't. I'm working on it though. Ships/vehicles/creatures follow a close second. I also like to pick up oddball type stuff. Stuff a lot of other people may not have. For example, I have a pair of SW marketing floders from JC Penney's for the TPM release. I also have a vinyl banner from TPM and the one TRU had when AotC came out. I have a trade list I'll post here shortly.

While I've been a fan since 1977, my fire was rekindled when the Heir to the Empire series came out. I've been in full out geek mode ever since. My first tattoo was the Rebel Alliance emblem. I've been a member of our local Fan Force group for about 6 years now and the Rebel Legion for about 3 years. That's about all the important stuff for now.

The saga legends coins I'm not terribly worried about. From what I can tell it looks like those coins are movie specific rather than character specific. As long as I have one per movie I'll be fine.

Speedermike- If you don't get a coin some other way, let me know. I was thinking of doing a Han Solo custom- Millenium Falcon mechanic. Simply head swap (that's about the extent of my abilities) and that'll give me an excuse to pick up another one.

I'd say try Ebay too. I may go that route to get coins for the repack figures I already own. I really want the entire coin set but don't really want to buy duplicate figures. I suppose if it comes down to it I could buy the figs for the coins and give the extra figures to my kids.

Ok, bad analogy. Pass it like kindergarten. (cuz it's easy. how's that grab ya? ;))

This is a really stupid question. I've never used the DCPI thing so bear with me:

Do you just go to the customer service counter, ask them for the item w/ that number and when they (hopefully) bring it out you just pick through the box for what you want? Is Target the only place this works? Would it work @ TRU with the SKN #?

54
More than likely the set will eithe be purchased by completeists or parents, grandparents, whatever, who don't know any more than that the person they're buying it for likes Star Wars. It'll be one of those sets that ends up at the outlet mall toy stores. With a name like Commanders & Clones my first though was maybe a set similar to the Order 66 line with new Jedi generals and the appropriate clone.

55
$5 is a good deal. Too bad I have them all already. I should keep an eye on the sole remaining Kay-Bee in my area for the future waves.

56
I may pick it up is I ever find it on clearance and I'm current on the figs out at that time but otherwise I too, will pass it like a kidney stone.

I got my Quinlan/Villie set @ TRU though I've seen that set & Luke/Artoo @ Wal-Mart as well. I still have yet to find the Obi/ARC set. I'm concentrating on getting this wave and then I'll go back and get the first wave. Seems like you can't swing a dead cat without hitting the first wave.

I think the Pittsburg Connection & Omaha Connection are one in the same. I ran into a few people @ C3 who knew people who'd lived in Omaha at one point or still did.

But yeah, this comic shop is the same as yours it sounds like. I know for a fact they have a few people who go out & buy the stuff, bring it back and them mark it up. Members of our Fan Fore group were asked to participate in Free Comic Book Day last year. They let us use their backroom as a staging area/break room and we witnessed their "ill-gotten goods" on the shelves and guys coming back fom shopping trips and immediately grabbing price gun. Right after the TAC- Wave 1 came out, they had a whole set on the counter. I was really tempted to mangle the cards so they couldn't get (their)full price for them. I resisted since they're the only place in town I can get Real Stands and ToyFare w/o having to wait till it actually hits news stands. I'm sure they'll have the C4 exclusives before the show is even over. They had a Jorg Sacul for $100 2 days after C2 was over.

I think I'm just going to keep my eyes open to see if the bases turn up on Ebay. The wife got me the Wal-Mart tin for Valentines  Day so there's no point in buying these over again. Pretty cool idea though.

Thanks, JJ. I've been more of a lurker for a while now. Finally decided to contribute.

I didn't think I'd find all the figs I've found so far. Having completed wave 1 & 2, this is the most up to date I've been in a long time. Both waves are getting easier to find around. Boba 'Cept & McStormie seem to be the 2 short packs around here (Omaha). I'm sure a certain comic shop/scalper in our area has something to do with it. I was in there the other day to pick up the new ToyFare and they had all of both waves for $13 each, McStormie- $15 & Boba 'Cept- $20.
