Kenner Retro Collection / Re: 2019 Retro Kenner Tarkin with Board Game
« on: February 16, 2019, 06:16 PM »
Tarkin is just great, really hope we see more of this. It seems like this, and the six regular figures, are Target exclusives? I think that is what Hasbro Twitter said. I think we can all one up with a short list we would like to see to finish out the original vintage line Stormie Han, Sandtrooper, RFT.......

Kenner Retro Collection / Re: 2019 Kenner Retro Collection

I kind of get both sides of this Retro Kenner line, although the timing seems weird. Would have made more sense during the 40th year, but oh well. Still looking for more details on everything. Is it limited to just these sux (plus Tarkin)? One site I was reading today mentioned that but I haven't seen it elsewhere. Is it exclusive to a particular retailer (or online?), or is this a mass item. If so it just seems like things are overlapping a lot. We have the basic line (which didn't get a mention again?), the TVC (which I thought was already the retro throwback, limited line), the Galaxy of Adventures stuff, and now these. Not to mention two 6" lines with Black Series and Archive. It is just a lot, and it makes you wonder if they are phasing something out.

All that said, I do like what we have seen this weekend. Personally, I hope to grab the retro Kenner stuff, particularly Tarkin (more figures like that please). I don't have any vintage carded figures, and won't ever be able to afford them, so these appeal to me for that reason. Plus, I love the vintage line, and the overall "toy" aesthetic there. Curious to learn more.

Favorite news is the TVC stuff, like the rumored Skiff (now confirmed), and the surprising Jabba playset. I really REALLY hope this isn't super difficult to find since it got sent to Wal-Mart. Our local store simply doesn't get SW exclusives lately, and is kind of a dump to even go into. I would rather they just cut out the middle man and went straight online (at EE or elsewhere). Looks pretty cool though.

It will be interesting to see what this is exactly. Is it simply a sub to get each Black Series figure that will also be released to retail/e-tail, or will it include figures exclusive to this service that you wouldn't be able to get otherwise? Although I probably have picked up more than I haven't, but I do still pick and choose with this line (and had been getting a little choosier because of space).

Honestly, I wouldn't have been surprised to see TVC go this route. As much as I (and most of us) love it, it has had troubles at retail - probably because of the usual first wave/shipping problems - and also the rest of the collecting world really seems to be going towards 6" figures.

Hall of Justice / Re: McFarlane Toys Gets DC Collector Figure License
« on: February 12, 2019, 01:22 PM »
Just read this today as well, interesting. I see McFarlane also got the license for Harry Potter/Wizarding World figures, so they are really making a splash here, pre Toy Fair. I think it will really be an interesting time in the action figure arena. More and more focus on 6" stuff, as well as a fairly clear line between "kids stuff" and collectibles. Really curious what we will see for Star Wars.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Did You/Do You Have Any Toyline "One Offs"?
« on: February 11, 2019, 08:07 PM »
Great list! I totally forgot to mention M.A.S.K., another line I always hoped to get more of. I had the Thundercracker with Hondo McLean and the Pirahna with Stiletto. Pretty sure they must have had just figure two packs at some point too, because I had figures of Matt Trakker and Miles Mayhem. I, like most kids back then, really wanted the Thunderhawk. I'd try to track more of these down today if they weren't so expensive. Time to reboot this line!

Also double checked my Inhumanoids figure, it was Dr. Derek Bright. Never had any of the monsters, although I had a buddy that had D'Compose, still a great toy monster name.

I had a fair amount of GoBots, probably more than Transformers because they were cheaper - although I preferred Transformers. Turbo was always my favorite though. I did have the command center thing, which basically looked like an At-At.

I also had a Voltron knock-off type thing that was all motorcycles with a four wheeler as the main "head" type thing. I don't remember the name, but I'd be curious to find out what it was exactly.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Jurassic Park Toys
« on: February 11, 2019, 07:49 PM »
A couple weeks ago, when Target had all the JW toys 20% off (and we had an extra coupon off our purchase), I broke and picked up the Super Colossal T-Rex for what ended up being around $33. Although I don't really have anywhere for this aside from standing on the floor, it really is a neat toy. It looks really good sculpting and paint-wise, and it seems to be a pretty solid toy as well. It would have been something I would have loved as a kid as well. Sort of tempted by some other things in that line, but I might have to stay away. Overall, a pretty well done toy line.

Other Toy Lines / Did You/Do You Have Any Toyline "One Offs"?
« on: February 11, 2019, 04:47 PM »
Not sure if that was the right way to title this thread, but it came to mind when I happened across a YouTube video about Inhumanoids (show and Toyline). I remember having one toy from that line (although I did watch the show), and liked the toy - but just didn't end up getting others for one reason or another. It made me realize I had a few lines like that. It may have been gifts, or just a certain toy caught my eye, but it seemed like outside of Star Wars, GI Joe, and He-Man....it was tough to give much attention to other lines. I guess this could apply to current collecting as well, but I was thinking of childhood I guess. Here are some of mine, off the top of my head:

Inhumanoids (one if the Earth Corps "good guys", the blue one with neon green, I'd have to look up the name again) Dr. Derek Bright

Centurions (Green suit, black haired guy - again, I'd have to research the name)

Thundercats (Panthro, although I always wanted more)

Black star (John Blackstar, I actually remember getting this at TRU. Was looking for He-Man, settled for this. Really liked the toy though and his glow in the dark sword)

Rock Lords (a gold one, Nugget I think?)

Silverhawks (Steelwill and Buzz Saw, wanted more of these too)

Battle Beasts (had a deer one and a white lion I believe? Cool toys)

I'll add any others if I think of them (and look up some of those names) Kind of wish I still had these, but they may just be lost at my parents' house.

Still pondering what the newly rumored Hasbro Black Series Hyper Real line will be like.  Yakface is reporting a price point of $79.99, which is honestly kind of steep.  Will it be something like the Marvel Legends 12" figure line?  That is the next closest line that comes to mind for me, but IIRC those figures had an MSRP of $39.99.  ML collectors please feel free to correct me if I'm not accurate with that number.

I think $40 sounds about right for the ML ones, with the Hulk I believe being a little higher. I've personally grabbed two of them: Spidey ($25) and Cap ($10), when they were on sale at Amazon. I know I've seen Black Panther at Target for $40 though.  I'd be interested in a few (Han/Chewie if they made them), but not at $80. If the "Hyper Real" puts these closer to Hot Toys territory (unlikely), that would be interesting.

I feel very much the same as Brian.  The more I see the new facial deco, the more I'm open to improving some of the older figures.  Especially having seen the updated deco on the ROTS Anakin Skywalker, because the difference is astounding!  The ones that I would like to see at this point in time?

-Luke Skywalker (Bespin, Farmboy versions)
-Obi-Wan Kenobi (ROTS)
-Han Solo (TFA)
-Kylo Ren (either unmasked version)
-Rey (TFA)
-Poe Dameron (any of them)
-Emporer Palpatine

I'm also wondering how this technique might be applied on a figure like Chewbacca.  It might be able to add a level of detail to Chewie that we've never seen.

Excellent choices, I totally forgot to specifically mention Poe. That original pilot version is one of the worst looking heads we have had, definitely need a redo there. I would agree about Chewie as well. I think the Solo version is far superior to the previous Chewies, it would be nice to see a new/improved OT version.

Looking through my Black Series figures and it got me to thinking what. Figures would be nice to see get another release in this line? Honestly, after seeing some of these newer real scan face figures, it makes some of the older versions look fairly outdated. With that in mind, I'd personally like to see several of the Luke Skywalker figures get a redo with the new faces. Bespin and Jedi Luke in particular. We have a new version of Stormie Luke on the way. Tattooine and Hoth Luke could use this as well. Hasbro has been great at putting out versions of Luke in this line, but after seeing figures like Bespin Han Solo, Bespin Leia, Skiff Guard Lando, Val, Tarkin, and others....id really like to see updates to most/all of the previous human figures. Not that they were all awful, but the new face deco techniques has really changed the game.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Transformers
« on: February 6, 2019, 05:44 PM »
Read on IGN today that a couple of characters from Bumblebee are coming to the Studio Series line, most notably the new (better) design of Optimus Prime (as well as Dropkick). I personally don't know too much about Studio Series, although it seems sort of like Black Series for Transformers? I haven't picked any of them up, but the Prime looks pretty cool.

The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: 6" Black Series Rumors
« on: February 6, 2019, 05:40 PM »
Not a complaint, just an observation but looking at the announced figures for this year (2019), and outside of the Archive sublime there is very little coming from the OT. Granted, most of the non "new media" figures since the line launched have been OT based, and I think a lot of collectors were looking for more attention for the prequels anyway. Just funny the sort of complete switch they are going with, instead of just balancing the line more. I think outside of exclusives (Target Luke Stormtrooper), and the Archive line (Fett, Bossk, IG, Luke, Yoda, Scout), it us all either prequel based or Disney era stuff (so far).

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Spider-Man Joins the Marvel Movie Universe
« on: January 17, 2019, 05:03 PM »
Really, really looking forward to this. Mysterio is one of my favorite Spidey villains, and it is really cool to see they are sticking pretty closely to his classic look here. I'm pretty sure Kevin Fiege himself has officially confirmed that this is after Avengers: Endgame, which I guess is a spoiler but shouldn't be surprising to anyone. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Black Panther will have more movies as well.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Transformers

Thanks Ben, I appreciate the info. I may just forget it then. I doubt our black hole of a Wal-Mart would have these anyways. I sort of wanted Bumblebee, then thought it might be fun to collect minibots. Still sort of interested in these re-releases, I wasn't able to get many Transformers as a kid so it is kind of like getting many of them for the first time. I got a Prime reissue a few years back, as well as a Sideswipe from when our KB went out of business. Had a Soundwave at one point that I had to sell, although I wish I hadn't. From time to time I still think about trying to get a few modern versions of my favorite characters that just display nicely on bot mode. Saw a new (I think?) Optimus and Megatron the other day at Target. I know the Masterpiecd versions are really the best, but I don't know if I can spend that much.

I found these at Target this week (aside from Bossk). I wanted the Luke because of the face deco changes (although this is one I didn't think was too bad in the previous version), and ended up picking up another Boba Fett for sone reason. I already had one, but kinda wanted an extra for the desk. Originally thought about Bossk too, but didn't see him. IG-88 looked like the deco was different to me as well.
