It says online that our local store has these as well, but my wife stopped by on her lunch to check and was told they "were buried in the back and couldn't find them". 😐

The Vintage Collection / Re: Vintage Collection Rumors
« on: July 19, 2018, 03:52 PM »
I figure there has to be more new on the way outside Luke and Lando (and Yakface), but if for some reason there isn't....kind of a snoozer. I'm excited for the new stuff though. Honestly, I would probably buy some of those repacks as well. I understand, and don't even mind, that there is going to be repacks..... I just wish the ratios between new and returning were a little better.

Yeah, if you were only interested in never before made figures from the OT, it would be very affordable to be a collector these days. Heck, if you were an OT collector in 3 3/4" scale these days you would have a pretty easy go of it as well.

DC Universe's Titans says 'F--- Batman' in moody first official trailer

Oh man, a dark and gritty take on classic DCU characters!  What a fresh idea... said no one ever.  Nice f-bomb, Robin.  I'm sure you'll be as edgy as Deadpool if you just keep trying...  ::)

I'll just stick with Teen Titans Go! I guess.

I know, I actually had high hopes for this as I really do like the Titans, but I can't say I was super pumped by the trailer. Didn't they learn anything from the reaction to the dark DCU movies? I'm on the fence on whether to give the new streaming service a go, $7.99 a month or $75 for a year. Kind of thought it would be a bit lower. Still holding out hope though, I really like all of the DCTV on the CW, the Flash in particular.

On a side note, as much as everyone groaned when it started out, Teen Titans Go is actually kind of great. Very good with deep cut references and making fun of the DCU in general. First thing a friend of mine said after seeing this trailer "I really hope Teen Titans Go does a reference to this show"

Vintage Kenner / Re: Latest vintage acquisition
« on: July 12, 2018, 08:26 PM »
Ok, as a little update to my earlier post, this past week I received in the mail the last two figures I needed to complete my loose collection of the first 77 - Prune Face and Rancor Keeper. I know most here probably have not only these figures, but the POTF figures as well, but it is sort of a "holy grail" goal for me so I'm pretty excited. Working on a way to get them displayed, and now I'm moving onto some beasts and the Rebo band. It sure is fun tracking down vintage toys again.

As a side note, it is amazing to see how much prices have risen on vintage stuff since the last time I was collecting them. Even things like the Rancor Keeper went higher than I thought.

Since our WM never got a whiff of the Last Jedi wave of black series figures, and is bad with exclusives in general, plus the fact that I generally don't like going in there...i went ahead and ordered one of these as well. It arrived yesterday, and looks great. When I got it, it was $19.99, which I was willing to pay to avoid trying to hunt this down at Wal-Mart. Heck, the Vintage Collection line in general is pretty much a Target exclusive here locally anyways.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Transformers

For the more knowledgable Transformers fans, what do you consider the best modern Optimus Prine figure out there? I can't really justify the price of Masterpiece most likely, but I know those are pretty nifty. I have one of the commemorative G1 re-releases, but sort of wanted to get a nice looking modern Prime to have on display some day. Is there one a superior to others? I thought the recent Power of the Primes one looked pretty good, and I did at one time have the classics version which I thought was nice as well. Thanks for any advice.

The singular vision the Darby mentioned really would help a lot. It has been mentioned before, but they really need someone like Marvel has with Kevin Fiege. Also, I think they are sort of trying to Marvel-ize the Star Wars universe, and I'm not sure that works. It just isn't the same. You can't necessarily do the Han movie, then Luke, then Leia, then Obi-Wan and then bring them together Avengers-style in A New Hope - it has already been done.

As much as I like more new Star Wars, letting things breathe a bit might be good for both the movies and toys. Maybe not the three year gap like the old days, but two might be ok. It really seems like the toyline, at least the basic/main line has gotten a bit stagnant and boring, as we haven't had the time to get much of anything outside of the main characters. Giving the whole thing some space could be a good thing.

On an unrelated note, but I'm wondering if -outside of Solo even- Star Wars isn't the biggest game in town any more. It sure seems like, at least among the general audience, that Marvel is the big show these days. As a fan of both, it sure seems like a lot more people in every day life discuss Marvel at this point.

I saw this earlier, and hope it isn’t true....or it is an exaggeration. It seems like an extreme over reaction if it is true. I really, really enjoyed Solo....and thought it was a lot of fun (and held out hope for more). I think the release date and marketing were much more to blame than disinterest or a bad quality of film. I know from the group that I work with, etc, who would be considered more “general audience” than fan base, barely knew of this movie and certainly didn’t care as much as they did about Avengers, Deadpool, Incredibles, or Jurassic World. The summer months are so crowded any more, this year in particular, maybe things just need to stay at Christmas these days. I don’t know that one month can support both Marvel and Star Wars together without box office drop off.

Agreed, neat idea, but pass. Doesn't seem different enough from the Kmart figs to warrant $100+, and I'd rather put that money elsewhere. Looks cool though.

Absolutely love it. Really hope I'm able to get one, as the SDCC exclusives are always a pain. I typically haven't worried too much since they have been re-releasing the figure itself later but being Han Solo - especially Bespin Han Solo, my favorite - I'd really like to get a hold of one of these.

Solo: A Star Wars Story / Re: Solo 3.75" Basic Figures
« on: June 12, 2018, 04:23 PM »
I'm glad that I am not the only one feeling this way. I have also been feeling a little run down by the state of things lately, both collecting and the general state of fandom. Like Darby mentioned, it has peaks and valleys, and generally I'm pretty happy with what we get from Hsbro, we just don't get enough.

We really had a golden run of things for a good while there. Tons of figures, sometimes ridiculous variety and obscurity, and in some cases lower prices. There are probably a number of factors these days, and I do sometimes wonder how much interest there is generally in the toys these days. I rarely see kids checking it out, and I even see some "collector" stuff sit a bit longer than it used to.

I think a (at least) partial factor, at least to me, is being in "the game" for almost 20 years. I know I've been selling a lot of stuff off over the past few years as I work on culling the herd and refocusing my personal collecting as well (and focusing on more vintage stuff). I'll always collect Star Wars, but I think I might aim for more focused collecting in general.

372
I don't read the Aphra comic any more, but did for awhile and liked these characters from their time there and in the Vader comic. I'd like to get a set of these, but like everyone else I'm not super hopeful. The vinty packaging is nice though. It is nice to see the 3 3/4" line get some attention again.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The "Original" Star Wars Fans Thread
« on: June 3, 2018, 02:56 PM »
Man, reading through some social media stuff today, and it seems like this topic has really blown up (again). Stuff between SW Action News and JTA, stuff between Chuck Wendig and Rebel Force Radio, and just comments back and forth all around. I hate to see SW fandom go this way. There have always been things that people don't necessarily like, whether it is ewoks, Jar Jar or prequels, but I don't ever remember it being this toxic. Some of it may be real world factors that fan the flames a bit. I wish people could just like what they like and not have to resort to hate and name calling to those who disagree. It doesn't matter when you became a fan, how big your collection is, or what your favorite movie is. It really is kind of ruining Star Wars fandom. I enjoy coming online to read everyone's thoughts and opinions on Star Wars stuff as a sense of community. Honestly, most of my "real world" friends don't have the deep fandom of Star Wars, so it is nice to share with those who do. It is too bad it has become such an us vs. them scenario.

Stopped in at our local store today, with everything in the store at the 40-60% level. Star Wars was at 50% off. I picked up the Black Series Admiral Ackbar 2 pack (last one they had), that I had been waiting on. Happy with the $15 price though. Really wish I hadn't been beat to the nice video game glass cases. Not sure what they were charging but they were all sold and would have made some spiffy display cases for some action figures.

Star Wars Anthology / Re: Solo (SPOILERS)
« on: May 29, 2018, 07:48 PM »
Saw it again today, I just really like this movie. I know it has simpler themes and is missing the "force" aspect and grander scale of the Saga movies, but as a fun side story I think it is pretty great. I'm sad to see all the news being about how it is a "flop", because it deserves better than that. I was hoping for a sequel.
