James Cameron's Avatar

The CGI kicks the prequels' dick in the dirt.

This is the film that's supposed to change film forever? Eh, CGI looks spotty in a few spots, specifically the Mech Suits and that dragon thing.

WOW!  You walked out of District 9?  Why?  I'd love to know.  Be really specific. I thought it was great, in many ways.  I can't imagine walking out.

My only guess was that it was too violent.  But that's just a guess... that's the only reason I can come up with why somebody would walk out.

The ol' f-bomb was tossed around a lot, and that kind of swearing offends some. Judging by movies like Cloverfield the "shaky-cam" style is not a viewer favorite. And some of the ideas were a bit over the edge... alien abortion, torture, graphic images. I've never walked out of a movie. I try to give everything a fair chance. If I fall asleep that's usually my indicator of a "bad movie."

I can understand being offended by a movie, whether it's too violent, intense, or the language bothers you, but the original post stated that they waled out becuase the movie was "awful."

That's an opinion I want to see defended. =)

We're all missing the point here....the truly shocking revelation in Dressel's tale is not that he walked out.  It's that some woman has agreed to marry him!

Basterds was fantastic.  Great tension.  So many unexpected events.  Extremely gratifying.

I caught Basterds last night... it was great but holy hell they could have cut 45 minutes to an hour off and had an even better movie. A highlight of mine was convincing a female friend to go with our group, convincing her that it was a comedy, and then witnessing her reaction at seeing a Tarantino film for the first time. :D

Just checking out the box office figures again, and here is the current Top 5:

1. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
2. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
3. Up
4. The Hangover
5. Star Trek

It looks like, barring anything huge over the last few months (New Moon, Avatar, Sherlock Holmes, etc.), this will probably be the top 5 movies for 2009.  Nothing too shocking I guess, aside from the big numbers from the Hangover.  G.I. Joe is currently sitting at 16, although that should change some.  I wonder if it will make the Top 10 or not?  Although Wolverine is at #8 (and I know it had mixed reviews), I'm a little surprised that it didn't finish a little higher on the list as well.

The Hangover and UP were kind of a surprise to me.  I thought UP looked like a fun movie but not as much as some of the other animated films that have come out.  I guess that's the power of the kid market.

The Hangover was a huge hit.  One of the funniest films I've ever seen.  I'm still surprised at the box office it did, that type of movie a lot of times gets a cult following and then blows up on DVD but this did it in the theater.  Loved that film.

I'm actually disappointed that GI Joe hasn't done better than it has.  I think it's a better movie than its box office suggests.  I liked it probably better than Wolverine.  I think partly it did what it did because some of its audience was starting to move around; summer vacations, athletes going back to college, that type of thing.

Yeah, I'm sort of surprised that Joe isn't a little higher on the list as well.  Sure, the reviews are all over the place, but it seems like more people liked it than didn't.  Definitely a step up from what we were hearing a few months ago about the film.  It seems like the studio is more than pleased with how it is doing though, I just thought it would at least be a Top 10 movie for 2009.
