Steve Evans of Hasbro shared the info about Dark Side Toys offering up the Sail Barge in Europe.  Considering it's after midnight there right now?  I think we're more likely to see a surge in orders tomorrow, once the word can get out.  But if people in the U.S. had sticker shock, I can only imagine how European collectors will react to 599 UKP.

Well, after their "EXCLUSIVE" images of Mark Boudreaux holding a box, it MUST be true!!!

It really is sad.  I have a lot of good memories from TRU over the years.  And I've actually made some friends with some staffers.  Some that I've known since the 90's.  I really feel for the people who are going to lose their jobs.  And I'm also that much more disappointed that I'm not going to be able to bring my kid to Toys R Us any more.

My sales have been ongoing.  I may wind up shipping a dozen items a week, and other weeks it's less.  I'm seeing some progress, but for me this is going to take a while.

For some figures I'm going to start putting together lots.  It just makes more sense to do that rather than to sell every figure individually.

Anybody checked out the options for upcoming Blu-Ray release to know who has the best deal and what pack-ins are the coolest?

The official site had information about the various retail exclusive versions.  Check it out here:

I've been wondering, too.  I hope things turn out well and your family can recover the car.

Amazon would eat TRU's lunch if they went online only.  Sure, closing the brick & mortar stores and selling off that real estate would help their balance sheet.  But Amazon has been building their online infrastructure and distribution network for a long time.  And Amazon's diversity of product ranges helps them if one sector falls short.... like toys.

I'm pissed at how TRU let themselves be saddled with all of that debt.  And I'm really hopeful that a buyer will come along and see some way to transform the business, restructure their debt, and find a new way to can continue on.  Hell, maybe Amazon can do that, too.  They have the cash.  And they already have a significant portion of the toy market.  They're working at competing with WalMart in a big way, especially since WalMart bought a significant online retailer like  Amazon took an inroads into brick & mortar retail when they bought Whole Foods because they saw value in that business, and a way to incorporate the store locations into their distribution network.  This could be another way for Amazon to use TRU in a similar fashion, along with having a place like the R Zone to offer up their own electronics.

There will always be a market, because there will always be kids.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: 4K TV's

Most of what I work on is 1080i.  We occasionally do some 1080p for special projects.  But we had a significant period where our plant was transitioning from SD to HD.  And when you would upconvert some of those SD sources to HD the increased resolution was not kind to the native format.  The defects of that 480i image in 1080i looked bad.  But then that was SD NTSC video, which was an aged format.

With 4K you have 4 times the resolution of a 1080 image.  The benefits of upscaling HD to 4K is that you're starting with a higher resolution source than we did when we made the SD to HD conversion.  But 4K would have around 5 times the resolution of that 720 source.  I'm not sure how happy anyone would be with that image until you saw it.

All of that being said, again, broadcast isn't ready for 4K.  But gaming, streaming and home video content are.

I shudder to think what a Fox NFL game shot in 720p would look like upscaled to 4K.

I can't offer much in the way of advice on hardware.  I don't tend to keep up on what's hot in terms of consumer electronics.

But from my vantage point as a professional in broadcasting?  4K is still in it's infancy.  It's fantastic purely from a resolution standpoint.  But the majority of broadcasters aren't equipped to handle a lot of 4K content right now.  I've been shocked to learn that some of the major networks broadcast in a 720 HD format, and not 1080i.  When some broadcasters do offer 4K?  It's usually for a special event, and not for their full schedule.

One exception in terms of content seems to be Netflix.  They're producing some content for their customers to view in 4K.  The made a big point about producing 'House of Cards' in 4K, but then that show has other problems.  And there's also a good amount of home entertainment content in 4K.  But most of the broadcasters aren't there yet.  Part of it is bandwidth and delivery of signal to the customer.  And part of it is hardware.

Just like with any other new tech, wait a little while and the prices will come down significantly.

That debt service has to be crushing TRU's business.

This is going to hurt a lot of people in my area.  There are loads of TRU stores, sure.  But the corporate HQ is a few miles from my house.  I know people who have worked for corporate.  And I really feel for them and what they may soon be going through.

In light of the news of TRU's possible demise, just what is going to become of this exclusive?

And even more notable?  We saw a lot of images posted by Yakface yesterday, including some of the exclusive.  But not Zuckuss...
