Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Gas Prices
« on: February 24, 2006, 06:18 AM »
The sad thing is, we as people will pay whatever the three big companies want for gas.  We "need" it for our cars, and they know that.

But with so many petroleum based products in the world, you'd think it would be possible for the price to stay low...it's early and I know I'm rambling now.

There's nothing about that on any of the wires that I could find with a quick search. And even if that were true - 20 people being held hostage causing a price spike would be just as big a pile of B.S. as all the previous reasons given for price spikes.

Here you go Rob.

I heard yesterday morning with several Mobile workers (I think it was Mobile) being held hostage in Nigeria, that production there is down 20% and that may cause a price spike here.

Seriously, get the price down.  The 3 main oil companies are reporting record profits while production and usage remain the same.  What's the ******* deal?

Uncle Owen and Beru maybe?

I thought they might be kind of cool...not much play value though.  Definately Tarkin and Stormie Han.

Here's another custom military figure for you guys to take a look at.  I got the parts from the site OpsToys and some of you may have heard of eBay. ;D  My other one was an Air Force SP.  I also posted this in the "Other Toys" section so I can get more comments from some of you guys that visit one section but not another.  If you've got questions, please ask and offer up critics of this one.  This one here is an Air Force Combat Controller, also part of what we call a TACP (Tactical Air Control Party).  These guys usually go in with a Special Forces A team and work the air assets over a target.  A quick description, the pole items on the side of the pack are the base for a Satellite hook up. He has one radio attached to the backback for talking with aircraft and another tactical radio for talking with his team.  That second radio is in a pouch on his back.  All of the pockets on the chest rig and LBE are filled with grenades, extra magazines, flares, MRE's, a strobe, and flashlight.  Inside the rucksack are the other parts for the satellite link and the other part for his PVS-14 night vision device.

Vintage Kenner / Re: Mint Figures on Any Condition Card
« on: January 30, 2006, 04:47 PM »
I have a really hard time justifying a few hundred dollars on a figure...after all it is only plastic and cardboard.

I picked up a 12 back Han on a really crappy card, where the bubble was tearing away from the cardback.  I picked it up cheap and I'm completely content with it.  I do try to pick up decent figures, but will not pay hundreds of dollars for one.  I think if you are collecting vintage on a budget, banged up, yet presentable, is the way to go.

Just my .02.

Didn't he also get discharged from the Air Force for some reason, injury or something?

You know, I have to take that back, about not finishing anything and the Air Force. I was a little pissed when I wrote it and thought better of it between work, when I posted, and home. If he was in the AF and was injured on the job it still can't take away from the fact that he served.

 E...

Eric, I was in the AF and I noticed that very thing in his profile at RS shortly before he became a royal ass.  So I sent him a PM asking about it.  He got a medical discharge I'm guessing shortly after he got to his home station.  I wish I'd kept the PM though.  He did serve for a short while, but with asthma I don't think he should have ever been in.  Just my .02 on him...for now.  I'm not sure if I'd call him a vet though. ::)

Here's his quote in a thread I started about military vets over there last year about this time.
Quote
Former AF Ground Radio Maintenance Technician per Tinker AFB 3rd Combat Comm. Got the boot for asthma and sleep apnea. 60% service connected disability. At 21 I'm retired.

Living off the gov't now.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Electric Bills...
« on: January 18, 2006, 04:20 PM »
Rob, I also live in the Dallas area and completely understand where you are coming from on the electric bill.  My wife and I have a 1000 sq/ft apartment that was costing near $150-200 a month to heat/cool.  We switched from TXU over to Reliant and the bill dropped the first month about $50 but has since gone up and we are now paying about $130-150.  I switched and although the change hasn't been a lot, it's something and I guess that is better than nothing.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: TSC Recent Purchases
« on: January 13, 2006, 08:24 AM »
I picked up Han yesterday.  These new figs look cool, but I'm not really in the modern line too much any more, unless it's for clones or Han stuff.  However, I may pick up a sandtrooper or two when they come out.

Also, I'm looking now, does anyone know if there will be star cases made for these figures?  It kind of pisses me off that the current figures won't fit in the case that every other figure from the beginning to the POTC fit in the same case and these recent ones don't.
