Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Brent's Customs - Update 2/17
« on: February 17, 2006, 09:32 AM »
 :o

The Sith Jawa is sweet, Brent. The addition of the cape is what makes it, I think.

The Tusken War Chief is going to inspire DOZENS of copycat jobs, man. That is a great concept which you have expertly executed! The only suggestion I would have - and it's not a real big deal - would be to figure out how to make the crossed bandoliers wrap all the way around his body. The use of the harness for a belt is a very nice touch.

Can't wait to see how you put these guys in play.

I feel pretty much the same as you guys. I think a good story will carry any shortcomings in photography. I'm not sure the reverse is true. Obviously a great story with great pictures is, well, great. :)

I did some staging last night for a photo session, and I think I'll be OK to start shooting KOE2 in the next few nights. The script is mostly there - it's *really* short, but necessary, and I hope it will get me back into the groove.

CHEWIE -

You were right about the vest, as it appears you did darken it a little compared to the jumpsuit color.  Freelo is the man... er, the Mon. :P

The surveillance port is incredible. I can see that plopped down on any SW planet we've seen to date, and it looks *very* Star Wars. That outpost looks familiar to me - is it a Joe or Corps! item? Please let me know, as I have something in mind for just that size playset...

Not an update, but still something in the PN section I could use help with. I just posted a request for information from PN fans over there. Please stop in and leave your comments.

Photonovels and Movies / Question for PN fans...
« on: February 15, 2006, 11:18 PM »
OK, I'm working up my script for KOE 2. Here's my problem: Some of the shots will simply be things I can't accomplish the way I want to accomplish them. Photoshop and matte stills and all, I can't get the look I want.

Some of the best PNs I've read sometimes don't have epic photography, so I'm thinking I might be beating myself up all for nothing. I'm not sure. I'm struggling with lack of time, lack of props, but a story I really, really want to continue here.

How about a poll?

Of the following three options, which most closely states your feeling on photo novels?

1. The story is more important than the pics to me.

2. The pics have to be good, or I usually won't bother with the story.

3. A good photo novel needs a strong story and strong photos to be worth the effort of making it, and to be worth the effort of reading it.

Fritz -

That Keller is one of the better Clones I can remember! Excellent work, both in the choice of parts and the paint execution. He really looks like he could be a production piece.  ;D

Long live Freelo! Awesome addition to the custom army, CHEWIE.

The paint apps there are solid as ever; I can't wait to see how he fits into the story. Since he's in an action sequence, is this a sneak preview of the next R.E. chapter?

Though for mini-guns I'm gonna be lookin' for that Clone battlepack. :)

I'm almost certain the minigun in the Clone Battlepack is the very same one that comes with Roadblock.

OK, guys... I do owe you an update. I will begin drafting another short chapter this week (and intro to Koe's Killers on the Coruscant landing platform) and then we'll see about getting the entire crew out to Odos Five. :)

Thanks, CHEWIE, for bringing this back up and reminding me how much I liked making Chapter 1.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Cody going to need work
« on: February 13, 2006, 11:14 AM »
I'll still buy him, I just was hoping for Uber-Cody and only got really good Cody. :)

And I have to agree whole-heartedly on the elbows. Far more important to use ball elbows than that slant cut job for the Clones. Overall, especially in light of how much attention Hasbro evidently paid to the damage marks on Cody (notice his body and legs appear to be all-new sculpts!), I'm sure the Big H would have ball-jointed the shoulders if they had a way to do it that kept the figure looking good. I guess they didn't want to risk giving him ugly shoulder pads since it's one of his defining differences.

Agreed, Ryan. If you look at the damage to his armor, it's remarkably accurate. I know there would have been a way to ball the shoulders even with the larger pads and whatnot, but you're right in that they could have done worse.

I just hope the joints are tighter than they appear on the proto. I hate being able to see the arm peg in there.

Looks like the new Commander Cody will be no better than parts fodder for Cody customs. For some reason the big H decided he didn't need ball joint shoulders.  >:(

CHEWIE - No sweat. Your post is a compliment more than anything else.

I have the story, I just don't have the time :(. Being a lawyer has CONSUMED my free time, and when it gets late (my primetime for customizing) I'm so tired all I want to do is play BattleFront, PSP, or SLEEEEEEEEP.

It is motivating to hear that you want to see how this one progresses. I'll see if I can't get on the ball soon. :)

CHEWIE -

One of the best Maces I have ever seen. His head is a bit shiny... perhaps he's sweating. The robes look perfect and very realistic in scale.

The Imperial Officer is a nice, clean custom.

The Gonk, though, is probably my favorite. If I can start to score these regularly on toy runs I plan to do similar things. They're very much blank canvases that you can glue just about anything to...

I left most of my pertinent comments on Ch 19 (that's what happens when you do lightspeed updates, I guess) :)

Anyway, I wanted to chip in here that I think your use of Judiss was great storytelling to add some mythos to R.E. Not only is he a great warrior for the Republic when he has the benefit of the most powerful military at his disposal, but he can get things done on his own as well. That's an important element to creating an idealized hero. Plus you let Judiss die, which was probably the better way to leave that.

Great stuff, CHEWIE. I gotta get back to work.
