Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Tough Times at Hasbro

Scott - you’re right.  I scanned through last year’s 10k and Star Wars and Marvel revenues were both up (they don’t break out the details but they stated this in the commentary).  Overall their license payments for things like Star Wars and Marvel were lower, but they don’t break out the individual brand payments.

I’m sure they had other cost challenges due to inflation, supply chain problems, etc., but it appears both Star Wars and Marvel did well in 2022.

They may have made some bad bets in acquisitions, but hopefully they find a way to keep investing in Star Wars as it seems to be doing well for them.

I would be happy to be wrong about the Tonnikas, or Lucasfilm, or Hasbro's stance.  I just feel like there are more constructive things that the community could rally behind that are attainable.

Agreed, but I don't need a redo of Hammerhead.   Neither of these choices are that great - lost cause vs. redo.

I was hoping for something all new and attainable...

Mola Ram!

Mola Ram and Thugee goon would be a nice two pack.

Yeah, I don't really need any more background characters or costume variations.  Its a cool list and great concept artwork, but I wouldn't buy more than one or two of these guys unless I wanted to create a specific scene.

Maybe the Cairo Swordsman or German Mechanic, but that might be it.

And Hasbro could even make these Deluxe figures.  Give them two bar glasses and put them in an oversized box and charge $25 each.  Call it world building.  I don't care, just make the Tonnika Sisters already.

I barely saw any of these in stores.  Maybe one of the earlier waves… but nothing in months except the Target exclusives.

Same.

I picked up about 70% of these online, but skipped the Dial of Destiny figures and a few others here and there.  I was hoping to see some of these in person to see if they were interesting enough to grab, or maybe on discount grab them, but I hardly saw any of these at retail and only the ones I had already obtained online.

Does that mean things sold well, or does that mean Target et. al. barely ordered anything?

They hit most of the high points, so I'm not sure the line should continue, but I'd love to see a few vehicles/beasts.  Indy on a horse.  German goon on a motorcycle.  Indy and Henry Sr. on a motorcycle with sidecar.  Maybe as retailer exclusives?

Other Toy Lines / Re: 2022: What Are You Collecting?

How did you guys do on selling your BS stuff?  I'm thinking of doing a giant purge of my collection if I can mostly get my money back.  Not sure if yours was sealed or open, but my 6" stuff is all open.

I did the same Jeff.

I really don't feel this is different or interesting enough to pursue right now.  I'll likely pick this up on discount if its available or if I'm tempted if I see it in the store, but I too am passing on a pre-order.  If I never get it I don't think I'll be too bothered by it.

I get it that costs are going up and Hasbro is trying to manage sales, profit, etc.  I just don't like this offering and how disingenuous it seems.  Deluxe should mean deluxe - more accessories, bigger figure, etc.

If they need more money and just need to raise price (like it seems they're doing here), they should just raise the price of all TVC figures and not pretend like this is deluxe and we should pay more for it when its not actually deluxe.

It reminds me of Tommy Boy - "if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it deluxe I will, I've got spare time".

TV-9D9 / Re: The Mandalorian (SPOILERS possible)
« on: December 12, 2023, 06:40 PM »
The Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2 are now out on Blu-Ray.  I must have missed the pre-release announcement for this (or maybe there wasn't one), but today is the release day.  Standard versions and collectors steelbox versions are available.  Pretty spendy for either version.

I'm kinda surprised that these are being offered in an at home method when they were a key part of Disney+.  Maybe its been long enough that they figured anyone that would have subscribed for these have long since watched them.

I'm personally glad to have these as Blu-Rays in case I want to rip them for my media server or decide to someday cancel my Disney+ subscription.  Hopefully they do this with the other live action shows as well eventually.

My question though, is what is Deluxe about this Jango Fett?  That is 100% a basic figure IMO.  Over the last year or two, Hasbro raced right pass inflation into price gouging.

The packaging and the price.   ;D

The Vintage Collection / Re: 4” Epic Hero Series Figure Line
« on: December 11, 2023, 11:17 AM »
Have we heard if these are getting picked up by major retail (Target, Walmart)?  I assume that is what these are designed for.

I'll be interested to check these out in person and probably pick and choose here and there - looking at you Stormtrooper.  I don't think I'm going to chase this whole line but I do like where they're going with this and would much rather see figures like this than Retro figures.  Retro is cute and all, but I'd rather get a $10-12 Mon Mothma 5POA in a modern style than a $10-12 Mon Mothma in a Retro style.

I'm with you Jeff.  I voted for Cobb, Tonnika Sisters (never gonna happen), and Shin (seems more interesting as a figure than Baylan and I've already got a ton of Jedi figures and kinda bored by them).
