30th Anniversary Collection / 30AC Saesee Tiin's Jedi Starfighter
« on: October 25, 2006, 02:09 PM »

Clicky for big shiny pictures

It doesn't look half bad I guess (and it's better than the recent Kit Fistomobile), but I'm undecided and unenthused. I don't love it, and I just don't hate it either.

There's enough "real" Jedi Starfighter paint variants Hasbro could do, that I'm not interested in dorky-looking made-up ones. What they should have done was Saesee's green Eta-2 from season III of the Toon (it is different from Anakin's green Eta-2 released earlier). Although odds are good that this will appear in the Clone Wars subline sooner or later.

Trailer available for download at the above site. The soundtrack comes out Nov 14, but the titular single is available for purchase on iTunes, as well as a free preview video.

Is anyone else as excited as I am??

Celebration IV: Los Angeles / Celebration IV speculation (2007?)
« on: March 29, 2006, 01:59 PM »
So.....

It's been nearly a year since CIII, believe it or not. A Celebration IV seems almost a given, and the consensus is that it should be in 2007 since that's the 30th anniversary of ANH, the 10th anniversary of the Special Editions, and the year the Clone Wars toon series is supposed to come out.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but there've been hints. And two recent stories on SW.com have mentioned an "anticipated Celebration IV event"--and as the official site, they wouldn't mention something like that, even in an offhand manner, for no reason.

So who's on board? I know I am. CIII was the highlight of my time as a SW fan thus far. One of the funnest things was getting to meet VIPs and people I knew online from various sites. I'd only started posting here at JD a few months before CIII, and spent most of the time in the MN forum, so at the time I only knew a couple of you outside folks. I'm looking forward to meeting many more of you next time!

I just wish they'd announce details soon, so I can start making plans and saving up.

Episode 1 / Cool website: CommTechGuide.com
« on: March 29, 2006, 12:26 PM »
I ran across this today on RS' frontpage: http://www.commtechguide.com

A page devoted entirely to the unjustly-infamous CommTech chips of old. Checking out that store display does bring back memories. Hard to believe it's been 6 years, eh?

I recently won the third Custom Giveaway featuring TR1ER's figure Commander Fin. Shipping was quite prompt and the figure arrived in one piece, so TR1ER gets +1 positive feedback from me! :)

Watto's Junk Yard / "Choke on that, causality!"
« on: January 6, 2006, 03:12 AM »
Take this with the requisite boulder of salt, etc. etc., but even so ........ damn.

Variety: 'Futurama' may get new lease on life

Please be true. Please be true. Please be true. This pretty much made my otherwise spectacularly mediocre day.

Watto's Junk Yard / Happy Birthday Calvin & Hobbes!
« on: November 18, 2005, 08:52 PM »
The first Calvin and Hobbes strip premiered 20 years ago today:

C&H was (and still is) my favorite comic. I have about 90% of the book collections. It's great because it worked on so many levels--it's good fun that kids can enjoy, yet a lot of the strips (particularly the later years) had some philosophic meaning or cultural reference that I only really appreciate as I get older.

Man I miss that comic. :'(

Watto's Junk Yard / George Takei comes out
« on: October 28, 2005, 01:59 AM »
Yahoo News

Trek Today

George Takei, who as helmsman Sulu steered the Starship Enterprise through three television seasons and six movies, has come out as a homosexual in the current issue of Frontiers, a biweekly Los Angeles magazine covering the gay and lesbian community.

Takei told The Associated Press on Thursday that his new onstage role as psychologist Martin Dysart in "Equus," helped inspire him to publicly discuss his sexuality.

[...]

The 68-year-old actor said he and his partner, Brad Altman, have been together for 18 years.

Good for him I guess.

I'm a Trekkie but I don't follow the behind-the-scenes stuff too closely, so this came as a TOTAL surprise to me. But after reading around a bit just now, I guess at least a few fans had had their "suspicions" already.

So with the Final 12 being repaints and all, it got me thinking about what other figures could be repainted and rereleased as different characters. There is a right way to do repaints, so let's brainstorm some ways it could be done right.

------------------------

--Denaria Kee

Pretty similar to Passel, only purple. The Saga Passel figure has already been repainted in the Final 12, so I think Hasbro could get away with repainting it purple and calling her Denaria Kee. OK, so she's shorter, and the attire is slightly different, but it's probably our only chance of getting this figure so it's close enough.

------------------------

--Neimoidian General

Put down those torches and pitchforks and hear me out! :P How about repainting the guy with gold armor and making him a general?

Gold = general
Silver = commander
Bronze/copper = infantry

On second thought, this is probably simple enough that even I could manage to customize this.

------------------------

Thoughts? What else would you like to see--or at least, not hate to see?

Please note: clone variants do not count. And neither does redoing a character with better deco, like the OTC Gamorrean Guard, since it's the same character.

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Wal-Mart CW Volume II DVD 3-packs
« on: August 24, 2005, 03:05 PM »
For the last several DVD releases (OT, CW1, ROTS) Wal-Mart has released 3-figure boxsets of repacked figures. I was just reading the ROTS DVD 3-packs thread, and the thought crossed my mind: will WM do more of these for the second volume CW DVD?

The problem is, the only existing animated figures that would fit with Volume II are Mace, Dooku, Grievous, and Yoda. I have Mace and Grievous, but I've been waiting for a good deal on Dooku and Yoda so I wouldn't be against a rerelease.

But what would they do for the other two figures (assuming it was two 3-packs like last time)? Would they pack in some old figures (Obi-Wan, Anakin, Asajj) even though they're not accurate for Volume II? They could sculpt a new clonetrooper helmet (pretty low effort involved I would think) and stick it on the existing body--a lot of us would be really happy with that.

Thoughts? Anybody else wondering about this?

Watto's Junk Yard / VH1's Best Week Ever
« on: August 3, 2005, 01:40 AM »
I only watch this show for a minute or two at a time, when I'm flipping channels and there's nothing better on--and I mean NOTHING.

I get so irrationally angry whenever I watch it, that I have to change the channel. Their "comedians" are such a bunch of smug, shallow, jaded douchebags. And they're not even that funny.

The last straw was the other day when one of their talking heads was ripping on the Narnia trailer--some crack about all these fantasy movies with British kids in them. I'm not sure if she was genuinely clueless or just being a pain, but the books were written 50 YEARS AGO. Sure, to some extent the movie adaptations are piggybacking on the Pottermania, but I don't see that as a bad thing if it gets them into theaters. I have a pretty good sense of humor, but that was just the last straw. >:(

I now officially hate this show. What a bunch of pompous dumbasses.

Thoughts? :-*
