Title: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: iFett on October 27, 2010, 07:36 PM
It's coming....and I can't wait to see what kind of treats Hasbro has in store for us.   :)

Was there some announcement made, because the only interesting news I recall from this round of Q&A is that the Renegade figures will be in the same style we have now and not animated.  Which is probably for the best.

The 25th line was excellent, but I would rather have more of the POC line than revert to a line resembling the 25th offerings.

There were a few QnA's where they mentioned the 30th anniv - maybe it won't be a "line" but they commented on pleasing collectors or some jazz, just too lazy to go dig at the moment....

I doubt it'll be an entire line, but maybe just some neat figures sprinkled in with the GI Joe 2 movie line, which I'm pretty sure is supposed to come out in 2012.

That Sci-Fi is awesome.  That will be the first figure simce the 25th line ended that I will buy and keep.

I picked up a Stalker, a couple Vipers, and a Cobra Trooper from this line at a WalMart.

Post by: efranks on August 31, 2011, 09:24 AM
I missed these the other day but yesterday WM had a new stock of them.  They had already sold one Cobra soldier and a Steel Brigade but I picked up the other SB figure, both Hazard Vipers and Stalker.

I snagged an Iron Grenadier from the find last week but passed on them yesterday.  I have several of the first release and only got one of the new ones due to the paint change.  I also passed on the Viper even though he has some different paint apps as well, but may snag one if I see them again.  The new Cobra soldier looks pretty good but I didn't bother with him because I have quite a few of the 25th versions, plus I built a squad of the Shock Troopers so didn't feel that I needed more.

I'd like to pick up a few more Steel Brigade figures so I hope I find that wave again a couple times.

Picked up a pair of each of the new Cobra Soldier and the Hazard Vipers today.  Badass figures!!!  Very nicely done.  Only minor complaint is no pistol holsters on the Hazard Vipers even though he comes with what appears to be a pair of Glock 9 mm or .40s. Same thing with the SWAT troopers last year, they needed holsters although I think their pistols were stun guns, who knows.  I'll have to come up with some holster mods myself.

Otherwise these are stellar.

Neat. I'm sure I'm in for that one, but I don't need to renew til early March. I'm kind of surprised they revealed it already, since they took a long time between announcing Dial-Tone and actually revealing the figure.

I also found 30th wave 1 last week - grabbed the Iron Grenadier, Steel Brigade and Hazmat Viper.  Haven't had a chance to open them yet, but they look great in the package.

Is anyone still seeing Crazy Legs and Rock Viper around?  Doubtful, I know, but that wave didn't appear around here (or if it did, I missed it).  Any help would be appreciated.

I don't frequent HISS as much as I'd like so don't know if this is news or not, but I found a case at Target this morning and none of them scanned.  Figured they'd finally put a case out after the sale ended last week.

Is Sci-Fi in the next wave?  That dude always reminded me of Robocop when I was a kid.

Found four cases (!) or wave 2 at my local WM. Grabbed all the Renegades dudes, plus another Viper or two. I just opened Snake Eyes, and he's actually pretty neat. It's really just a City Strike SE with a new head and arms and paint job, but there are worse SE bodies to use. He has this neat wrist articulation that makes me wish all SE figures had it, but what can ya do. Kinda light in the accessories department (especially when compared to figs like Steel Brigade and Hazard Viper) but all the Renegades figures are light in respect to weapons.

I kinda like it, but I got it for $7. Paying any more, I'd have to think twice about it.

Right now I am on the fence about purchasing the Renegades figures - need to cut back somewhere on something right?

Going to wait until I see them in person, but who knows, a really good sale could win me over.

Actually, I do kinda want the Cobra Commander, and I am definitely going to get that Storm Shadow.

Yeah, I bought Cobra Commander last night, then I got home and looked at some more pics online.  I think I talked myself into going back and getting Duke and Firefly - if they are still there after work.  Snake Eyes is a pass though - I am not feeling it.

I still have 4-5 entire waves of POC to open so I think I'm good on Joes for the time being.  Have 1 Hazard Viper to go along with my 2 ROC versions so I'm good on the repacks.  Also not going down the Renegades route.  Wonder if I'd be more jazzed about them if I actually watched the toon - same with TF Prime stuff.  0 interest.

My Target store sold their Destro figures during a sale a couple months ago.  Then we sat on blank pegs for a while but now we've gotten a couple new waves.  We got the new 30th wave 2 which includes the Renegades figures.  One set of the 4 Renegades figures sold but only the Cobra Commander from the second set has sold.  And none of the carry forward repacks have moved yet.

I'm betting some will go by Friday, especially since they're on sale for $6.99 this week.  I may even pick up a couple Cobra troops if they don't move in a day or two.  I already snagged 2 Hazard Vipers otherwise I'd be in on a couple of them.

I will be trying to grab some of them this week at my Target if they show up. Its just getting harder to spend the money to collect these figures as I have been watching the prices on these toys slowly creep up. Walmart seems to be the cheapest retailer in my area as they have them regular priced at about $6.88, Target at $7.99, and Toys R Us at $8.49. sadly it only seems to be only the Walmart supercenters that actually have any of the Joes in stock while Toys R Us has the most on hand (including vehicles) yet marks up their prices significantly higher than everyone else. It just seems to be a bad time to be collecting action figures in general right now.

Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: Mikey D on October 25, 2011, 04:49 PM
I don't give a **** what the card looks like, Airtight looks like a perfect 30th anniversary representation of his RAH figure and that makes me happy.

This wave is filled with winners - Airtight, Sci-Fi, Law & Order, Tele Viper.  Good stuff.
Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: iFett on October 25, 2011, 05:24 PM
Airtight was actually one of my favorite Joes as a kid and I think he looks fantastic - I don't do carded Joe stuff unless it's on a classic card, I was just confused as to why he was on a "toon" card.

Oh and Techno Viper was one of the last viper dudes I got as a kid so he will be a much have.  I think I got him, Frag, and Astro Viper all in one last swoop before I said goodbye to this line.  I had a thing for anything Viper back in the day and their favorite ride was in the HISS II.   :D

Oddly enough - I never even thought of army building back then and none of my buddies did either.
Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: efranks on October 25, 2011, 07:38 PM
While some of the Renegades figures really look cartoony, Airtight is one that can work with the 25th/30th/POC just as well.  Same for Law and Order and Storm Shadow (w/ the alternate head).

I like the Scarlett figure and the Cobra Trooper is nice, but I probably won't buy him because he doesn't fit in as well with the other troops.

I also like Tunnel Rat but really wish he was more 30th/POC in design.  I think Hasbro released TR twice in the 25th/ROC lines but I didn't care for the design.  Along with Scarlett, Baroness and a couple others, I really wanted TR in the POC line badly.

Maybe I'm not detail oriented, but I think the Renegades figures don't look animated at all, or at least no more animated than figures from the 25th Anniversary line. I do think figures like SE and Cobra Commander don't look quite right with the highly detailed POC figures, but on the other hand Renegades Duke might be the best looking (and most realistic) Duke we have gotten in a long time.

Animated or not, I think I'm sold on all of the Wave 3 and 4 figures, along with some extras of the army builders. (esp the Renegades Cobra) I know I can't wait to see Lifeline and Storm Shadow carded.
Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: efranks on October 25, 2011, 11:52 PM
The Renegade figures are definitely not as cartoonish as they could be, but they have an aesthetic that's more cartoon than the other figures out right now and the colors, on several, feel more cartoon that realistic.  I'm really in love with the POC releases, it's like the grown-up version of Joe, and I wish Hasbro could have continued that line for another year or two.

The Renegades Duke is a nice figure, but I think the Wave 3 Duke, with the missile pack, may be the best version of him Hasbro has done.  I really like the head sculpt and the body on that, it's a great generic base for all different types of equipment you could throw at him.

I agree with the sentiment that the Renegades stuff is not too animated... in fact, blended in with the 30th line, these are the best GI JOE figures ever made in my opinion.  They look so good opened up, and my son is really enjoying them... I'm a bit jealous of his collection!  Ha Ha.
Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: Jesse James on October 27, 2011, 06:50 PM
I honestly don't think the Renegades look Animated at all...  They look true to their character they're representing, but their facial features and body structure are 100% realistic IMO.  This is what I wish we'd gotten out of Clone Wars to be honest, since I'd like figures from it but not cartoony looking.

I picked up Duke and will nab T Rat for sure.
Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line

Yeah, I can't imagine how much Clone Wars stuff I would have bought the past few years if they had gone realistic style with those figures.
Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: Jesse James on October 29, 2011, 01:45 AM
I have to admit I'm almost thankful on one hand that I didn't get that hooked into CW since that would've certainly been a lot more costly to me.  On the other hand though, I really wanted realistic CW stuff, and not just one or two from the series, but a pretty thorough line of realistic stuff.

I'm cool with one or two like we're going to get (for now), but I would've been all-in on the entire line, had it turned out that way.

I just hope we see these at retail.  Most of all my local stores went from having 6-8 Destros to just absolutely jammed pegs of Renegades with maybe a viper here and there.  I noticed Target dropped the price down a tad to $7.89 at least in my area, but I sure hope these don't sit too long so the good stuff doesn't make it out.

Zombie Viper?  Still trying to figure that one out, but he looks pretty nifty.

Picked up a couple of the new variant on the Steel Brigade at WM last night. I was glad to see them, since this figure has been really hard for me to find, both in POC and the 30th line.

I guess they're shipping in a revision of the wave 2 case, since this store was sold out of army builders and Renegades SE, and now they have some, in addition to more Renegades Duke, CC, and Firefly.

I've been pretty lucky at this store. They had a lot of wave 2, but sold them down pretty quickly.

Storm Shadow is an incredible figure. It easily gives the Snake Eyes from POC wave 3 a run for its money as best GI Joe figure ever. I really liked the SS from the 25th anniversary line, but this is light years beyond that figure.

I haven't yet opened the rest, but I will soon.

After all the reports of the Storm Shadow wave hitting Walmart started popping up I went to my store to find the pegs packe full of the newest wave of Marvel Universe....

My WM was one of the few that kept the Joe line all through the summer but after getting that last wave of POC figures, we had empty pegs for over a month.  I think their computer system was ****** up becasue most of that last wave sold out before the figures were actually listed in the computer.  So I'm pretty sure the computer thought they had over 12 figs in stock but they'd actually been sold.  Finally someone did a count, found them gone but instead of fixing it, relabeled the pegs for MU and stocked about 4 cases of some of the newest stuff.

Anyway, I'm now thinking I'll have to go for this wave online just to make sure I get get them.

I am thinking I am going to order wave 4 from BBTS so I get one massive shipment for when the Dreadnoks/Marauders set ships with it.

Too bad for me Hasbro didn't include Storm Shadow in that case - otherwise it has at least one of every figure from wave 3 and 4.  <-- This case pack model is what I wish Hasbro would do with all of their lines.  Or maybe they should/could make online exclusive case packs this way to encourage more collectors to order online.

Neat...will have to check that out when I get home.  Looks like AP missed that in his review of him from today.  I wanted to go to town on this guy since he's such a rad figure, but I think I'm good with just him leading around my 2 volcano vipers.  Can still find this guy - and the other army builders in good numbers out here.

I just pre-ordered wave 4 from BBTS. I opted to go this route instead of HTS since I am already ordering the 2 GI Joe exclusive sets from them. Pretty sure the cost broke even since there is no tax on the BBTS order and shipping only went up like $2 or something.

I preordered Wave 4 from a site called Nerd Rage Toys (http://nerdragetoys.com/) that was being pushed by HissTank and the Terror Drome.  $45 for each of the new Joes, plus two zombie vipers.  I also pre-ordered two Techno Vipers from them.  After the preorder, I noticed that they had a 10% off promo, so I emailed them and they retroactively applied it to my account and got me a refund.

Good customer service so far, hopefully the figures get here...

Anybody else have any experience with NRT?

They just started up a couple weeks ago, I think.  The guy that runs it used to be an admin on the Terrordrome forums, I believe.  He's trying to grow his business so I think that's why he had some discounts offered.

I saw today that they're promoting a 10% savings all weekend in conjunction with GeneralsJoes.com.  Head over to their site for the details and discount code.

Well, I skipped Walmart for a couple of days because they had pulled all the pegs for GI Joe and stocked them with Marvel Universe.  Today I was in to find some pegs for Joe and that I'd missed the better part of the Lifeline wave.  Still, picked up a Zombie Viper, which I'd originally planned to pass on, and Renegades Tunnel Rat.  Passed on a second Zombie and Renegades Rip Cord and a re-pack Steel Brigade.

Still hoping to find the rest of that wave and a Storm Shadow.

I know wave 3 didn't come to my Walmart.  The week it was hitting was the week they pulled all their pegs for Joe and assigned them over to MU.  My Target had been current until the last month when they loaded up on wave 2 and have only now sold down most of the Renegades figures from that wave.

The Renegads figs sold okay here, they just got oversaturated in a small market.  But the $6.99 sale this week has helped.  I'm hoping Target doesn't skip that SS wave and it becomes another lost wave of figures like the POC Hawk wave.

Bought a Crimson HISS at WM yesterday.  Never did see the black ones (no Ross) so I need to track one of those down eventually.  Still not seeing any new figures up here.  Even some Targets have like 2-3 figs left but no stock in the back.
Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: efranks on December 28, 2011, 01:49 PM
I saw the Crimson HISS at TRU on Monday but passed at $24.99.  I saw the black HISS back on Thanksgiving weekend at the same store and had it in my hand, until I scanned it and it was prced at $29.99.   I put it back.  Still don't have one.

I think Friday I'm going to make a toy run to another town I haven't been to in a couple of months.  Hit TRU, Walmart, Target and K-Mart to see what types of sales they have and I'm hoping if I don't run into the new Renegade figures by then that I'll see them and maybe a HISS or two.

I got my Wave 4 Order from Nerd Rage Toys...great deal; I'll shop there again.  Sci Fi, Airtight, Lifeline, Law & Order, 2 x Zombie Vipers and 4 x Techno Vipers...these are all outstanding figures.  Again, for my money, this is the best action figure line going.

Well, I was getting too scared about not finding a Storm Shadow for a decent price so I went ahead and ordered a case of wave 3 from BBTS tonight.  I already have Tunnel Rat, Ripcord and Scarlett so I may return those three if I can track down my receipt.  I really only was after one Techno Viper and wasn't sure about the Renegades Cobra Trooper so I'll have to make a decision on those.

But I'm not sure what to do with the Snake Eyes, Firefly and Hazard Viper figures so those may end up for sale.  We'll see.

Now I have to make a call on wave 4 because I still need Airtight, Law & Order and Lifeline and maybe another Zombie Viper.

Starting to get worried...Still haven't seen any of the new "classic" Joes out in the wild (or the new Renegades for that matter)  I scored a few Techno Vipers off BBTS a week or three ago, but ya...sucky.  3-4 of my local Targets have had 2 or 3 Joes on the pegs for the past three weeks or so with no restock in back and I need not mention the other store that stopped carrying this line.

Any good places left online to pick these guys up at a decent price?  Not wanting a full case.

Any good places left online to pick these guys up at a decent price?  Not wanting a full case.

No?  Not really.

Every place I've looked, the singles are sold out except for the army builders, carry forward figures or the ones I was able to find, like Ripcord and Tunnel Rat.  The sets are also either sold out or, and this is probably smart on the sellers end, the sets have been built in such a way that you can't just buy, say, Sci-Fi/Airtight/Law & Order/Lifeline and leave the other stuff.  Sets are like, Airtight/Lifeline/Steel Brigade/Tunnel Rat and then Zombie/Scarlett/Ripcord/Sci-Fi.  So you're basically forced into buying a case anyway since you can't just buy the "new" stuff.

I don't know if I've seen any reports of Target getting wave 3 or newer.  It seems they got wave 2 several times and then nothing leading up to Christmas.  My store has a lone Iron Grenadier on the pegs and that's it.  My Walmart got wave 4 once and a Walmart up the road got either 3 or 4 but I'm leaning towards 3.  I've managed to buy Ripcord, Tunnel Rat, Scarlett, Zombie Viper and Sci-Fi off the pegs but that's it.  Probably should have bought that second Zombie Viper but I'm not going to loose sleep over it like I am Lifeline and Storm Shadow.

I haven't checked lately for single figure availability, but again, I'd recommend looking over at Nerd Rage Toys.  After the discount, the figures cost about the same as they would have at retail, and they were all carefully packaged and minty (if you're into that thing).  They also threw in some vintage figures as a free first time customer bonus or something (nothing I really would have picked, but hey, free's free).

I was worried about this wave being like the Low Light wave, which was scarce at retail, so I preordered and it's a good thing...it's an outstanding wave.

I went to my local super WM today and it has been reset.  Joe figs were on the plannogram but the pegs were empty.  This particular WM used to be decent about stocking toys but it has gone down the crapper since Hasbro reps came through and did their purge.  They seriously only had 2 Vintage Obi Wan figures on the pegs for months.  Perhaps they are catching up because they did have TPM wave stocked this afternoon in the SW section.

Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: efranks on March 1, 2012, 07:51 PM
It's been crappy here also.  We had wave 2 of the 30th figs here at both Walmart and Target in December but then Target stopped being restocked and Walmart, after having empty pegs for a few weeks, removed them.

One case of wave 4 showed up at Walmart while they didn't have pegs for them, and quickly sold through. Target never stocked wave 3 even though they had empty pegs.

Walmart reset in late January and added 4 pegs back in but didn't stock anything.  Target stocked 1 case of wave 4 on Valentine's Day and then again Tuesday.  Walmart has reset again, for the Avengers stock, and increased to 8 pegs, all empty.

So, it's been ******.  I really have no explanation for all the empty pegs in town and why neither store had any stock for 2 to 3 months.  All I can think of is that Hasbro reduced production, possibly in anticipation of the movie line, or they royally screwed something up on the manufacturing end.  After hearing about the troubles Hasbro had on the Transformers line I'm wondering if maybe they did have some problems and we just don't know about it.  It would be awesome to corner one of the Joe team members from Hasbro and ask, but you never know what kind of answer you might get.

I guess it's also possible that the retailers didn't order anything from Hasbro, for various reasons, but I find that harder to believe because why would a retailer want empty peg space in their toy aisle during the Christmas shopping season?  For that reason alone, it seems like wave 3 and 4 should have been out in force.

And yet, I keep going to stores with eight pegs for Joes and only two figures on them. BTW, seriously, if anyone's got a loose ROC Bench Press, I'm totally in the market for one. Dude's like $50 on ebay, which confounds me. Got an Airtight or good cash.
Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: efranks on March 2, 2012, 12:00 PM
Yeah, I don't understand the Benchpress market prices either.  I remember seeing that dude forever at TRU and kept passing, but when I finally decided to snag him, gone.  And then prices went nuts.

There are some other ROC prices that are high that I can't really explain, because it was only the later waves that had trouble getting into retail that were harder to find.  But there are some earlier wave stuff that's also doing odd things on eBay.  Like General Hawk figures for $20+?

The Spirit and Quick Kick figures also went nuts for a while but now that they've been popping up at Ross I see the prices have come down some.  I see some sets of those two in completed auctions for under $20.  They stuck around at the two TRU stores I go to the most, but they definitely sold better than some of the ROC exclusives.  And while I think most people liked Spirit, I remember hearing some grumbling over Quick Kick.

I remember ample opportunity to get one about a year ago, but couldn't fathom paying $15 plus shipping for an ROC figure. Maybe prices will cool after the movie. Reminds me that I better get those Alpha wave 3 vehicles before they go nuts too, but this is the wrong thread for that.

I used my Bench Press figure for a custom of Slaughter for my son, as nice reader at Yakface helped me out and got me a Brawl Slaughter head so I could give my son a Slaughter for Christmas - drilled a tad on the Sarge's head, and it fit on Bench Press perfecty.  He plays with it all the time... I'm kinda living my Joe collecting through him now.  Which is a helluva lotta fun.

Also - success!  I went by a Wal-Mart today that is a bit off the beaten path, and they had put out a case of new Joes... I bought the following for my son:

- Sci-Fi
- Lifeline
- Airtight
- Techo- Viper
- Zombie Viper

I'll give him Lifeline and Airtight tonight as a surprise. The others will be for some other occassion.  He has one Zombie Viper that I got off ebay a couple months back.  He named the one he has, Leech... pretends he's Cobra Commander's pet.  Lol.

They had a couple other new figures that I passed on, money is a bit tight right now:

- Ripcord
- Cobra Trooper (Renegades)

It's also nice to pay $6.97 for these at Wal-Mart rather than the $8.99 tag at Target, and $9.99 price at TRU.

I was reading over on the Tank where, apparently, ToysRUs.com mislabled a Storm Shadow figure for sale, it was the Renegades version but they listed it as an earlier POC version, and a buch of guys ordered during the BOGOHO sale and got the Renegades version cheap.

I was really surprised when a case of the SS wave showed up at Target a couple of weeks ago.  I have to believe there are more out there in the distribution centers somewhere waiting to go out.  But I don't know why they aren't.  My Walmart has been sitting on 8 empty Joe pegs for well over a month...they got put up when the aisle reset for the Avengers toys.  Where are the figures for them?  My Target just got the 1 case of the SS wave but prior to that had wave 4 maybe 3 times.  It's hard to believe that Target doesn't have more cases of W3 sitting somewhere in the pipeline.

But Hasbro...man, they have some serious problems right now.  With all the issues on GI Joe distribution at retail, the cancelled Transformers figures, the missed releases on the Walmart Clone Wars 2-packs and the Mandalorian Gunship from last year, just to name a few...  They're falling apart over there.  I don't know if it's China manufacturing ******* with them or the teams are losing their ability to get **** done...or if retail has completely bailed on them.  Something is definitely wrong, though.

Something is definatly not going well with hasbro, I mean they have always sucked at distrobution but this is the worst ive ever seen it, I still havnt seen any star wasr figures after the TMP wave ANYWHERE.
Ive had to get wave four of gi joe literally one figure at a time from places liek drug stores ect where I wsee you guys are having luck I go check that kind of store and Ive never found more than one wave 4 joe at a time, still need Sci fi Air tight and about a brazillion more zombies, I only have on one now

So the Target I bought the last 3 figures from last week....no grey dot OOS stickers, but they just completely removed all the Joe tags and replaced all the empty pegs with Halo crap.  Sigh.....
Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: efranks on April 17, 2012, 01:19 PM
After the last reset, my Target had 8 pegs for GI Joe figures.  They were mostly empty, with maybe 1 or 2 Renegades figures like Ripcord and Scarlett, until they got the 1 case of Storm Shadow wave.  That sold and they were down to 3 Scarlett, 2 each Ripcord and Tunnel Rat and a Snake Eyes.  Snake sold and I thought that might generate a restock seeing as how it dropped their figure count below the peg count.

Last night I stopped in and the top 4 pegs had blank tags and were empty and the bottom 4 pegs had all the Joe figs with the $10.99 price tags.  So they reduced the space, didn't restock anything new and are keeping the ridiculous price....a price which was raised AFTER the current figures were put out.  That's like gas station pricing.

$10.99 @ target
I guess Target knows they bought all the last wave 3 and 4 cases from hasbro and can charge what they want

Well, Amazon has the Retaliation and Renegades 4-packs in stock but they're a ridiculous $40 each!

Renegades (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007COCLWM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00)

Retaliation (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007COCLSQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01)

The Dreadnok and Marauders 7-packs were only $50 for three additional figures and the Resolute packs were the same price.  This hobby is getting way too ******* expensive to be fun anymore.

The Amazon sets are a ripoff. I'll be waiting for a price reduction. $30 would have been perfect, especially when the Retaliation 3-packs are going to sell for $20-$25.

these wont stay that price - no way possible.  I am kind of wondering if these are just being sold through amazon and not really by amazon - though I do see that it does not list any other seller.

The amazon page only allows one to purchase 2 of each set - so either that is all there is, or they are limiting pre-orders - which is something I have never seen amazon do.

Also those pics make me kind of skeptical too that these really are being sold by amazon.  I just dont see amazon using those types of pictures for their listings.

I don't have any answers about the limits, except that I have seen Amazon impose them on their lightning and special deals. I don't think these are pre-orders though, but rather in-stock and ready to ship.

The pictures were uploaded by a user, which is a shame. I really want to see better pics of the figures, so official Hasbro pics would have been appreciated.

I went ahead and dropped the cash on the Renegades pack but passed on the Retaliation set.  It looks like the Roadblock figure has the same molded-on accessory attachement in his right hand, SE and SS aren't really different enough from the carded releases to be must-haves and I'm not going to spend $40 for the black Cobra Commander figure even though I think it looks really good.

$18.38 Skystrikers in my neck of the woods today (Target of course)  12" figs were $20ish - no 4" figs though but I'd imagine they're on clearance too.   :)

$25 Skystrikers here. Grabbed a third one to repaint if a Night Boomer is never announced. Figures were under $8 (Arctic Destro and Renegades CC) and 12"ers were under $20, but seemed to disappear faster than Skystrikers.

No Joe clearances here.
Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: efranks on May 11, 2012, 01:10 AM
I found clearances yesterday.  They sold through their 12" basic figures a while ago but they have two paratroopers for $21, 3.75" figures were $7-something and the Skystriker was $25.

Usually Target stores are more in synch, but they're all going to get to this clearance eventually.  I'd buy another Skystriker at 50% off but at $25 it's still more than I paid for my first one so I have a hard time paying it.  I'll be keeping an eye on the store though.

In other news, my Amazon Renegades 4-pack came.  I love the Duke figure in the set and even though it's a little bit different, don't know why I passed on the single carded version.  He's so basic he makes a great base to do any number of things with.  I just wish he had holsters for all the pistols he comes with.

I'm not as happy with the other three figures.  They all look good but they feel very rubbery and I don't like that.  It's hard to get them to stand in some poses and I know that without a stand (maybe even with one) they won't be upright for very long.  Plus the peg holes in the feet of the two ninjas is so shallow neither actually seems to work with the included stands.  I also don't like the new ankle joint.  The hip joint is actually pretty good for the most part, except on Snake Eyes, one is frozen and I haven't been able to get it loose yet.

Over all, for the price, I'm not sure it was worth it.

I'm hoping either something like Family Dollar also carries them or they start popping up other places like drug stores or grocery stores.  If they're still in the $6 range I'll be happy to get one of each and maybe even try to army build a few of the Cobra Soldiers and the Duke figure (for some head swaps).

Saw an almost full set of them tonight...  GOt my bro Shipwreck, Cobra Trooper, and Duke (That's Grunt, Duke was never a greenshirt).

I want one of Duke myself...  Great Greenshirt.  I want one my my meager shelf of Joes because I find Green Shirts intriguing.  The Cobra Trooper is cool for army building, as is the generic Ninja.  Shipwreck, with headswaps, would make maybe the most awesome group of "SEAL" type special forces guys for Joes to back up Shipwreck.

I'm gonna hit more DG's as soon as I am able...  They're building a new one not far away actually, and I think I have 1 or 2 more within a short drive I can hit, so I'll keep looking.

I left the Ninja and Snake Eyes at this store...  My other store had nothing though, at all.  Kind of a bummer.

You're gonna need those #'s to check stock too, by the way!  DG's are a mess, haha.  Took me some serious scouring of the first store to find them.  The second store I'm pretty sure had nothing.  It was a little better organized.  I saw some of those OLD Joes (with the o-rings) that DG had though.  Like the Ace figure without any gear and stuff.  They were in their clearance area, which is kinda funny DG has a clearance area.

DG is a really shady store...  of the dollar store world, they're the one that is most likely to rip you off by making you think "Hey, this is a great deal!", when in reality the packaging is smaller, or you get one less of whatever it is...  DG is pretty bad that way.  Family Dollar is a step above, but not a big one.

Dollar stores ripping people off are the worst too...  They're taking from the people who have less generally.  DG in particular loves to put stores up where they know they'll get a lot of foot traffic from people without cars, and not much competition immediately around them.  Sucks.

I've found some remnants of the new Joes a couple times now, and one almost full set (no CC, oddly).  I keep looking though.  I got a Duke to use as just a "Grunt" on my shelf.  Gonna take off one of those holsters though.

What bothered me was there's five in my city, and not a one will be getting them until, I guess, their next reset. I got my set today, and for a bunch of frankenjoes, they are pretty cool. I was really hoping Hasbro would get this version of Snake Eyes out at some point, and it's great to have it.

I'd almost love to see another set of these, something like Falcon from the Marauders pack in his original colors and some other stuff Hasbro can do with existing tooling. The accessories are light, but it's nice to have a stand in the package, something sorely missing from the movie figures.

I just found two more DG figures yesterday, Snake Eyes and Shipwreck.

The set that I found about two weeks ago were not on pegs they were standing on a shelf.  There was no tag on the shelf for them showing the price but they all rang up for the $6 price which had been announced.

Yesterday the figures I found were hanging on pegs on a small rack that was attached to the side of the end cap of the action figure aisle.  There was no peg tag with price there either.  They also had the single packed GI Joe Heroe figures and a couple Star Wars Jedi Force single packed figures on the rack.

Really, there doesn't seem to be a pattern.  The stores I've stopped in, I scanned every aisle and the top shelf around the outside walls of the store where they have a tendancy to put overstock.  My best advice, look at photos to get the look in your head and then just wander the DG stores scanning for them.

To be honest, I felt a little weird wandering every aisle of the stores only to walk out of most of them empty handed.  Probably looked like the neighborhood crazy.

DG is basically hit/miss...  they usually renovate existing buildings to make their stores so their shelving isn't structured the same in any given store, and thus they don't work off plan-o-grams exactly the same.  A lot of "make it work" type stuff, and employees/managers doing the best they can with what they have.

I've found that about 50% of the DG's I've hit had the figures.  I have one left I can hit.  I hit the ones that DIDN'T have them multiple times and never saw one stock them so I'm thinking not all stores are even getting them in.  I mean some of these stores are literally only 10 minutes from each other for me, if that even, and nothing at one store multiple times I've visited it but the other one had a full set... and no restocks.

If Joe fans are lucky, Family Dollar or Big Lots will get them, as both are much more likely to carry the same stock at all stores, and restock them when they sell out.  DG is really on the lower end of the scale, regarding stores like this.  :-\
Title: Re: 30th Anniversary Line
Post by: efranks on June 26, 2012, 03:15 AM
I noticed something about the DG store where I found my set.  I went in almost exactly one week later and the shelf that the figs were on when I found them was completely empty and had been adjusted up the wall to make room for stuff on the shelf below it...stuff that hadn't been there the week before.  So what Jesse is saying I saw first hand; they were making due with what they had.

I'm surprised that of the dollar stores to get these it was DG and not Family Dollar.  The FD stores were the ones that had the single carded figs one other time as exclusives and they cleared out a lot of 25th figures a couple years ago.

The other thing that surprises me is that, as far as I know, none of the online sellers solicited these figures.  So it's not like Hasbro even released them to wholesalers (like Diamond or EE) where they could offer them online as well as being available to other types of stores.  Hell, Hasbro hasn't even officially made any announcement abut these.  If you weren't online tracking Joe releases you'd NEVER know about these.  Very odd.
