Ok, I've got a meeting coming up in West Lafayette, Indiana. I need to fly there and will do so on Northwest, my only real choice. But on checking nwa.com I am not able to fly direct into W. Lafayette, something that strikes me as strange. I was hoping to avoid renting a car, but it is appearing I'll have to fly into Indianapolis and then drive out :-\ Anyone have any suggestions of how to do this...can I fly direct into W.L.? Is there a closer spot to fly to? Where's the airport in Indy, will I have to drive through/around the entire city?

It's been a while since I've flown into Indy but if I remember correctly the airport isn't that far off of I-65, and from there you should be able to hop on and drive straight north to Lafayette. The only other option I know of would be to fly into Ft. Wayne, but that's further northeast and I doubt would save you any time.

jjks hit it pretty straight on the nose, flying into anywhere else (chicago, gary) will probably increase your drive time. West Lafayette I believe is an hour or less north from Indy.

Y'know, us weird old farts actually use something called an Atlas. It's made of paper, so naturally something that simple would confuse you :-*
FWIW there's a shuttle direct from the airport (also return) to the hotel I'm staying at on the Purdue campus for $39 return. 1.5 hour drive which will be a severe bitch leaving in the morning, but oh well.

$39 for a hotel shuttle to the indy airport as opposed to car rental fees, that's a good deal me thinks. plus you don't actually have to do the driving! :) just expect to see a whole lot of nothing on the ride

I see a whole lot of nothing for an hour each way, every day, so a little longer but different nothing is good. I was happy to find the shuttle, no doubt. Anyone know anything about Purdue their website can't tell me?

Purdue is a Big Ten conference university. My understanding is it's your run of the mill major US college, though stuck in the middle of nowhere in the forsaken state of Indiana. Good academics, but a party life as well. Planning to attend there?

Lafayette is a cesspool. It's such a miraculously craptastic town, I sincerely pity that you've got to go up there. Not to mention, driving around there is a total ***** since it has about the most bass-akward road layout on the planet.
And before people start making assumptions: No, I'm not an Indiana University fan either. I guess I'm not a real Hoosier since I never chose a faction to associate myself with. Alas, I just root for Notre Dame.

No, I'm pretty much done for schooling, though I have a standing offer to do my PhD at Kansas. Not likely I'd go though, I have a good job and my partner at work that does the same thing has a PhD and we get paid the same. I'm going up there for a meeting, nothing more. Arrive Friday, meetings Saturday through Tuesday, fly out Wednesday morning.

No time in Indy in March, other than at the airport. Going to this meeting more because I have to, rather than want to. And you're not helping :P Hoping they at least have a Target/Walmart/something to shop at. As long as they have some bars somewhere that I won't get the **** kicked out of me at, just for being different I'll be fine.

Conventions forum I think lists us, though there's something obscene like 8 of us staying in one room, depending on who all goes. There's more than that going as well. Jesse is going and staying with some Pittsburgh buddies and then more folks are going as well - darthshader, jadesfire, maybe Berry himself, though I recall no confirmation. I'll let Matt rattle off the list of folks, he'll know better.
