I hope this means the ROTJ set is not far behind.
-
I think this might be out in time for the holidays. And it seems that the ROTJ version is likely to be a Q4 2009 release. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to have Jabba competing against himself at retail.
-
Very cool, I can't wait!
What would make this perfect is if they included the stretcher with the 'returning bounty hunters.' :D
-
I bet it includes a repainted 3PO translator, and either Anikin or a new guard figure.
-
I hope this means the ROTJ set is not far behind.
Seriously. An animated Jabba before a decent movie set?
-
I know. I want a really good ROTJ Jabba. And thankfully that seems to be in the works. But I guess Hasbro is trying to capitalize on Jabba playing such a prominent role in THE CLONE WARS feature film.
-

Ya know!
I think Hasbro is going to take it in the ...s on the Clone Wars animated line. Those figures are stinking up pegs all over. Granted the show just came out but it's at 9pm! Great for adults, but what about the young kids for which the toys are geared towards. I'm sure there is a percentage of 6-9 year olds who are not up at that time, even on a Friday. So they don't get the chance to see the show, therefore don't have a desire for the toys. The cartoon movie by the standards of the live action movies was a huge dud.
I look forward to the animated line drying up next year. Back to the basics please. REALISTIC style figure.
No freakin' way should we get an animated Jabba before an ultimate movie realistic Jabba.
I'm jedi_master_sal and I approve this message.
-
Kind of cool that they're making this, and I'm definitely in the boat that's happy that Hasbro has pretty much confirmed we'll see a realistic one in the future (likely next year). Hopefully, when that happens, we'll see them go all out with a dais and everything. If anything, the animated one might give us a better chance of seeing a dais like that - since Hasbro can justify packing it with both the animated and realistic versions (or if not packing it in the battle pack, releasing it in the future). Plus, it could be realistic style just like the vehicles have been.
On the other point that jedi_master_sal brought up, do you think the Clone Wars line will be drying up within a year or so? From what I've read, the series got big ratings for CN last week, so if that continues it could really help the line. I could probably pick up almost any of the Animated Wave 1 at retail around here (with Rex and Yoda being the toughest finds), but the same could be said of the Legacy stuff as well (at least around here) for the most part - so I'm not sure how to judge the sales of these figures. Personally, I'm in the minority where I'm buying both lines right now - but I'd be fine if they had done these in realistic style in the first place as well. If it transitioned over to that, that would be just fine with me. I am curious how the lines are doing overall though, and if there is a big difference between the two.
-
I think I would be interested in a Jabba battle pack. It is a little surprising they are doing an animated version first, but then again, they probably can reuse the dias again with a realistic version, right?
As for the Clone Wars figs stinking up the pegs, I think its the first Legacy Legends figs and the Legacy Wave with Yarna that are responsible for that around my area. I've actually had a hard time finding the latest was of Clone Wars figs, and the only ones I see in any great number is the Clone Trooper and R2-D2, other than that they seem to be selling pretty well. I think they'd do better if the stors did a better job of separating the figures by series, but the sure are moving...

I thought Hasbro mentioned in a Q&A we were getting a decent ROTJ next year. Or maybe I was just dreaming. If so I will definately skip this one. I probably would have anyway.
-
I think you're right, Broem. However, we still might get the animated one before the movie one. :P
-
We'll get an animated one with dias, and we'll get a realstic one with really sweet articulation but no dias so we'll be screwed. :-\
-
I don't want to buy a battle pack to get Jabba, I hope the ROTJ one will be a single figure
-

Yeah, when Mustafar freezes over. ::) ;)

Me too. I'd like to see how Hasbro fits him on a basic figure card. ;)

Build a figure anyone? :P
It would never happen but it would be amusing to see. And they can make the wave really crappy but if jabba was the BAF everyone would buy it up just for him.
-
Build-A-Hutt?
Jabba, Ziro, Gardulla, the possibilities are endless! :D

Don't forget Zorba! Jabba's pappy needs to be made too!!!

I actually liked Zorba. He woke me up at least in the theatre. I doubt I would buy him though.

Up for preorder (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=HAS16610&mode=retail)
-
January 2009 yet still no picture? That's surprising. ???
-
Hope we get some info on this at Toy Fair.
-
You know this is going to be a cardboard cut out of Jabba and 4 POTF2 Repainted weequay's, right?

I love that Yavin pack! Jabba looks ho hum - not bad, but not all that excited about it. I do like the droid though!
-
Nicely done.
-
Jabba just looks weird, but larger than the "movie" version. Probably has a footlong pole sticking out of the other side to control his hidden tongue for "lip smackin action"

ya not really into the animated stuff be he looks cool enough to use as another Hutt
-
I think for an animated version it looks pretty good. It gives me high hopes for the OT set.

I think it looks pretty good. Although the arms do look a little scrawny.

Let's hope that when Hasbro does a non-animated ROTJ version, they actually do the whole ******* dais this time around. Sorry to be so crass about it, but Hasbro's been doing the modern SW toys since 1995, this makes at least the fifth different time they've released Jabba in some form, and still no actual dais. This is essentially a deluxe figure with a bonus protocol droid figure thrown in, and they'll charge the now-standard 22 bucks for a Battle Pack for it. Alongside the Yavin pack, this is a ripoff.
-
I can see them giving that Jabba a new upper body/head and selling it as an ROTJ version.

Looking at this I thought the same thing
-
Hmm, that's a possibility.
I'm thinking about getting this set. Really only for the hooka and possibly the droid, so I wouldn't need the Jabba. If anyone would want to make a deal for the Jabba, LMK by PM.
-
wouldnt it be easier to just wait for the eventual realistic Jabba bp that was rumored to come out later this year? its probably gonna be the same as this thing.. :-\

That makes perfect sense - though the body seems to big for the CW version.

Yep. I won't be pressing to get this set. ANd if it looks like it's shelf warming then I'll definitely wait. However if it seems to be flying off the shelves, I may bite on this. Just depends.

I want a dias for Jabba. That was one of the coolest things about the vintage version IMO - not that it leaves any hope for a new one for the Legacy edition though. Nice looking set though for what it is......where's the "tongue" action though for this dude? Mouth is too far open.
-
I just hope that Nikto comes with the set. Some pictures include him, some don't. I like it either way, but two figures are always better than one.

There's a part of me that is starting to think we'll get a dais of some sort when the OT version of Jabba is released. They keep saying "worth the wait" when discussing that one, and I'm not sure why they would bother with the alternate reclining legs on the upcoming Slave Leia figure if she didn't have something to sit on. Plus, they might be able to justify it more with two different Jabba's that could sit on it.

I have to agree with you here Brian. I'm going to pass on this set. I really only wanted the dais. The Nikto is cool, but won't look right next to realistic figure. So I'll hope for the dais to be rereleased in a realistic set.
-
I wonder if that Nikto will be released.

I wonder if that Nikto will be released.
Nope. (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=7835&zoneid=2)
-
I have no doubt that the Nikto Guard will see release at some point in the future. It's a nice looking figure that looks to be pretty far along in development (if not done) - so even if it's not until 2010, I'm sure we'll get that figure eventually. Heck, we haven't seen all of the CW waves for 2009 yet either.
-
I'd think at some point they'd find a way to get that Nikto out there... I hope so at least. It's one of the few CW figures that I like the looks of.
-
It lacks the Nikto figure. The Jabba figure is very animated style, depicted a s a cartoon, this is why his mouth seems to be traced with ruler, a lot angular (from some viewpoint, his mouth needs to ve more curved)
I wonder if the Jabba set from ROTJ would come with a slave Leia, and Oola, Salacius crumb and Bib Fortuna.
Anyway, if they release the rotj Jabba, Hasbro must resculpt the hutt throne.
-
I just want that droid.
-
Saw this in the stores. It's two per case.
-
I just want the accessories form this set. I don't want/need Jabba or the droid. Problem is, unless Hasbro rereleases this in a realistic set, I doubt I"ll be able to get just the accessories. And I'm sure as heck not going to eBay for it (at least initially) because it's likely that the bids will climb to half or more of what the whole set would cost anyway. I don't think the accessories are worth that much, IMO.

Since I just want the droid, all we need to do is find someone that just wants the Jabba and we're all set!
I'll admit that's pretty unlikely, however, since most people who'd want the Jabba would want the same dais pieces you want.
-
Aren't the accesories from another Jabba? I can't remember which...

Yep. The Saga Deluxe Jabba.
-
Really? I'm talking about the side structure where the hooka pipe and frog are. I never knew this was done before. If I had, I'd have bought it just for those accessories.

Yep, from back in the Saga (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/ActionFigures/saga/ultrajabba/cf.html) days.
-
So I opened up my Jabba BP last night and discovered something kind of cool about the CW version of the big slug....
Moving Jabba's arms up or down moves his lower jaw to make it look like he's talking/laughing or something. It was kind of neat to see that he had that sort of flexibility. Now you can make him laugh at Anakin or eat a frog or whatever you want.
I'm sure all you action feature haters will hate it, but I thought it was sort of a cool deal. :)
-
Neato! Now I can make him say "bantha poodoo". ;)

Thanks Jayson. Well, I know I have that set, so looks like I'll be passing on this altogether now.
Money saved, cha-ching!

Do you feel that you got your $23.99 + tax money's worth on Jabba?
-
Yes, I feel like I got my
$14.99 + tax money's worth from the Jabba/TC-70 set (or at least I will when I return one of my extra TRU sale BPs to Target).

Smart thinking Jeff. Wish I would have planned that out, but these were still stomachable at $21.99 when that sale was going on. Picked up Jabba and the Yavin set on the way home and there seems to be something missing in the left hand corners of each over-priced set. Hmmmm...what could it be? ::)

Okay, I give up. What is it? ???

Picked up two of these this morning and I have to say, I'm quite excited to get home from work and open one up.
I REALLY like how the Animated Jabba turned out!

An extra figure!!

Saw it today at Wal-Mart. It looked pretty damn good. Although it makes me clamor all that more for a nice ROTJ version :-[
-
I finally opened up this Jabba. And I was pleasantly surprised by the "action feature". Jabba's arms are linked to an articulated mouth. Move the arms, and you can make Jabba "talk". I think it's actually a pretty cool feature.
-
I wonder how long we'll have to wait before we get Ziro.
-

I hope we do and it's soon. I would love a different Hutt.

Yeah, in the Q&A for swcollector.com, Hasbro all but said that they are looking at repainting Jabba as Ziro, and doing a droid as a pack-in, which would be great since I *love* that all Ziro's droids have those cool stripes all over them.
-
These things are stacking up everywhere at my local Targets with a few smatterings of the Yavin & AT-TE pack, but WM seems to have missed the boat on this round as there is not a single bp in stock within 10 miles from here - not that I care though....was looking for leaky ROTF crap.
-
I've seen a few reports of these starting to sit quite a bit at various stores (Targets mainly now it seems). These were the last to sell at our local Target as well, although I do think there was only one left the last time I was there. I'm a little surprised that more kiddos don't want this set, but maybe parents just don't want to drop $25 for Jabba and a droid. Hopefully poor sales won't hurt the chances of the "ultimate" realistic Jabba set hitting some day.

Here here!
Battle Packs shouldn't be more than $20. A droid, and Jabba and the hooka stand should be $15 at most $20. Hearing that it's being sold for $26 is just plain ridiculous. Even the Yavin set while nice (though I have yet to get it), is still over priced. Three figs, two of which are all reused part (but for the head sculpt of the pilot) and a simple cart...for $26? We used to get FIVE figures for $20. So taking into account the swap out of two figures for the cart in that case, I still can't see why the set needs to be $26. Greed, in a time when people can't afford this stuff as much. Make it more palatable for the masses by bringing the price down. Sure they wouldn't make as much profit per piece. But if these are not selling, then the retailers will balk at this stuff and not order as much. Then where would Hasbro be? Lower price per piece should mean more sales, bigger orders by retailers, etc.
The price point per figure has me cutting way down on what I collect. My self imposed budget restrictions aside, I've barely bought any SW this year. Choice of characters and availability aside, I just find it hard to justify $8 per figure when I can get much bigger and often better figures from other toy lines for the same of a dollar or two more. Halo figures as an example.
-
They won't though. They will just say that collectors or people are not interested and drop them alltogether.
-

And they'll do this before a nice ROTJ Jabba was to be introduced.
