Speaking of kickassery, I'm really starting to get psyched about Kick Ass.  I really didn't know anything about it till the TV ads started but now that I've read a couple articles, this is getting to be one of the movies I'm most looking forward to this year.

Same here.  That was one of the best comics I read the past few years, and it sounds like they adapted it very faithfully.

Can somebody explain to me the appeal of "Army of Darkness"?

I saw it years ago after many friends raved about it.  I thought it was dumb.

It's been on HBO or Cinemax recently, so I was thinking "So many people love this movie... maybe I just didn't get it the first time."  So I gave it another chance.  It was horrible.  It was juvenile and stupid... not in a clever way, in a juvenile and stupid way.  And it wasn't "so bad it's good."  It was "why the hell am I still watching this?" bad.

I don't get why it has such a great reputation.  Can anybody enlighten me?  I feel like I'm missing something.

I grew up on horror movies and I think Evil Dead was the first comedy/horror movie I ever watched so the franchise holds a special place for me.  I haven't watched Army of Darkness in over 10 years, but it held up ok back then - at least for me, cheese and all.

Are you kidding me?  I loved Army of Darkness.  The whole Evil Dead series is a little campy, but that's the charm of the movie.  I like the combination horror/action/humor of the series.  Bill Campbell as Ash is something of a poor man's Han Solo for me - lots of bravado with equal parts bravery and stupidity.  He's out for himself completely, but finds himself something of a reluctant hero by the end.  If nothing else, I'd watch it again just to see an army of the dead marching on the castle and for Ash's over the top acting and memorable one liners.

"That's just what we call pillow talk baby"
"All right, you primitive screw-heads, listen up! See this? This... is my boomstick!"

Bruce Campbell is one of the most under-rated actors of all time and his book is hilarious.

A "little" campy?  Army of Darkness makes the Three Stooges look like Schindler's List.

Just thought I'd post this for discussion, IGN's list of the Top 25 Comedies of All Time.  Some interesting inclusions and omissions, as there always are for a list like this.

one thing's for sure...those movies are infinitely rewatchable and endlessly quotable.
