Title: 6" Black Series Wave 3 (2014 Wave 1)
Post by: Nicklab on July 21, 2013, 01:11 PM
Could this be the first figure of wave 3 (https://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/photo.php?fbid=592214604164391&set=a.319098674809320.92118.134004179985438&type=1&theater)?  GH gives us a look at the 6" Obi-Wan Kenobi (Revenge Of The Sith)

If this is mainly an OT line, maybe his AOTC head should be included also

Per the JTA report, Wave 3 will probably be:

Stormtrooper
Luke Bespin
Obi Wan Ep3
Anakin Ep3

I have to take that with a grain of salt.  Especially since no reporter from JTA was actually in attendance at SDCC.

NP.  For a second I thought that the WBB at JTA was rumor mongering again.  But in this case, just trying to grab traffic from another site's story.

I have to say, the Obi-Wan preview does look pretty nicely done.  I haven't decided if I'm in on the prequel figures yet, but loving the OT stuff.  Glad to see Bespin Luke is probably on the way, always one of my favorites.

Also the Stormtrooper is right behind Luke and it looks like OWK is also there.  Just EpIII Anakin left

The Stormtrooper looks spiffy but has IG88's rifle?  Weird.

The DLT-20A blaster rifle (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/DLT-20A_blaster_rifle) is listed as optional weaponry for stormtroopers. The only figure (other than IG-88) I remember including one was the Scout Trooper (http://www.yakfaceforums.com/TGuide2004/html/otc/exclusives/01.html) from the Battlefront game
Title: Re: 6" Black Series - 2013 Wave 3
Post by: Jesse James on July 25, 2013, 11:42 PM
I know in the EU they list it but found it odd they've never included it with a stormtrooper before...  always the MG-34 if anything it seemed.  The IG-88 gun somehow got mixed in there though along the way, but nobody ever has one that I've ever seen outside Battlefront, in any EU.  Someone somewhere probably does, there's so much, but it doesn't come up often.  It's a cool extra IMO, just seemed a little odd when they could've gone with one of the Sandie's guns more people recognize.

I threw a couple of those to my troopers (Rebel and Imperial) on my shelves.  I sort of give it to Imperial Army troopers or Naval troopers more though, like it's not quite as nice so it gets handed out to the other groups more.  :-\

I didn't care for it as a "sniper rifle" like it was promoted as.  Seemed awkward for that.  I made one from the MG-34 Sandie rifle most Hasbro figures came with, and a Marauder Inc. scope...  Looked pretty slick.  Gave it to the half-assed camo VTSC Scouts Hasbro did as 41st Elite Clones...  I turned them into Imp. Pathfinders and sniper teams.

Too much time on my hands, yeah...  I re-read that and came to the same conclusion.

Why oh why does Hasbro feel compelled to put a frickin PT Obi-Wan figure in each & every line they make?

Bespin Luke & the Stormtrooper look great.  Definitely picking those 2 up.  Curious how 3 waves into the Black Series, and no Darth Vader.  Oh, but we're getting Annie.  Yippee!  Oh, & of course, Obi-Wan.  Gotta have multiple Obi-Wans, always.

The Stormtrooper looks amazing, I'm hoping it looks as good in person as it does in photos.  I like how they picked an 'optional' weapon to include with it to create a little more interest.

I am in for the Stormtrooper but may pass on Bespin Luke. I got X-wing Luke just because he is out first but I think farm boy and Jedi are the only ones I really want.

I think the PT Kenobi looks nice, but I would have much preferred an OT Kenobi.

I too wish this line would stay heavy with OT.  Not having Vader, Chewie, or C-3PO in favor of OT Anakin and Obi-Wan is a miss.

Even Slave Leia isn't my preferred figure for her.  Maybe ANH or Endor Leia with a blaster would be preferred.

Anakin isn't going to be in this wave. They are going down to 3 figure waves so they can have carry forwards.

Ok, so clearly Hasbro was worried they would not be able to screw the distribution on these up like the 3&3/4 stuff so brilliant change of plans. I'm sure they will be carrying forward R2 and not the Sandtrooper, then probably Slave Leia rather than Boba. And so on.  ::)

Just more evidence to me that they don't yet fully grasp the proper business model for this scale. How many 6" repacks do you see Mattell or Neca trawling out with each new wave?

Right, none.

Post by: Jeff on October 31, 2013, 02:15 PM
I think if they use it for army builders (Sand/stormtroopers) or variants (alt pauldron sandies, etc) or uber-popular guys like Fett/Vader, it may not be so bad.  But yeah, if they repack R2 or  Slave Leia or ROTS Obi-Wan or something it'll suck fast.
Title: Re: 6" Black Series Wave 3 (aka 2014 Wave 1)
Post by: Darby on October 31, 2013, 07:48 PM
Right, I think there's room for them to rotate Vader, Fett, and what are sure to be all those different Sandtroopers we saw listed. Probably different ranked Clones, etc. Beyond that, just from purely local observation, there will not be demand for these beyond their initial release.

Post by: Brian on November 1, 2013, 08:53 PM
Yeah, if they are smart about who gets that fourth carryover slot in these cases, it could work out....but we'll see.  It was nice getting a whole wave in one case, and being done without any extras each time.  So I guess if we continue to see 4 or so waves of these a year, we're looking at around 12 (maybe up to 15) new figures a year, not too bad.  If they are going to put extras in, I'd be for more Stormies, or different pauldroned Sandies or something like that.  I could see Fett as well, or even Vader.  No more X-Wing Lukes needed for now, plenty of those locally :).

Wave 3 is up for pre-order at EE (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HSA4301C).

Looks like Han Solo gets the nod as the first carry-over figure.  Makes sense I guess as folks may want a second to display with all those hand/belt/gun combos.

Or it could be the universe's way of continuing to tempt me to buy into this line by giving me another shot at Han.   :-\

I see all of Wave 1 warming the shelves at this point.  I'm worried that any carryovers will only make things worse.  If somebody hasn't been able to get their fill of this wave then they live under a rock.

I'm not sure there are a many 6" army builders, and I know I don't want two Han figures (sorry Jeff).

Maybe if they did case revisions to empty the warehouse of leftover wave 1 and 2 figures it might be okay, but I'm worried that two waves of Han is one too many.

If any make sense, it's Han...  Can't say much else does.

Guess it depends who you talk to though...  That Han almost had me cave though, and I've sworn off 6" figures all together short of Bossk, Tarkin, or a Fleet Trooper...  and really probably only Bossk or Tarkin would get my cash.

It sold really well in my neck of the woods. Target today got wave 2 and every last wave 1 figure was gone.

They're the same here as Dave said, I see all of wave 1 except the Sandtrooper fairly regularly.  The Trooper, I see once in a while...  TRU has all of Wave 1 available at it though, several Targets, most of my K-Mart stores still have a smattering but sold through most of what they got except R2 and Mauls...  Lots of those.

So far I've seen Leia a bit...  She's early frontrunner from Wave 2, to not do well.  Kinda funny she's such a "fanboy" figure.

I think, at the price, double-dipping a figure at all is probably iffy...  Han, it makes sense slightly, but not much else does.  I think the price is a turn-off.

I wonder if production numbers are dramatically lower.  Like, comparatively speaking to the average 3.75" collector figures...  The 6" line is completely devoid of re-usable parts so far starting fresh, so I'm curious what those numbers ultimately are.  They've got to be wildly different.  Are 6" figs produced more like vehicles are/were?

In my area, Greedo is the one that stays behind, and even then, he sells within a day or two.  As far as wave 1, I hardly see any Sandtroopers out in the wild.  I see Maul every now & then.  I'm sure Obi will warm shelves when wave 3 is released.

I dunno, a solid figure you can display multiple ways...  He's a solid figure in a brand new line of unmade stuff...  So I disagree.  Honestly I'm just not sure I'd double up on ANYONE right now.  I know some of you are saying you see sell-through, but some of us aren't...  It's very regionally lopsided at this point.  $20's a bit tough to choke down on doubling up on anything though, to me.  At least right now.
Title: Re: 6" Black Series Wave 3 (aka 2014 Wave 1)
Post by: Brian on November 27, 2013, 08:57 PM
Yeah, it is hard to say about Wave 1.  It doesn't seem like any of them are particularly tough to find - at all really - but I will say that our local Target was stuffed with Wave 1 (two full rows on the shelf), and they slowly sold down a bit and then our store got a case of Wave 2 in - and those disappeared quickly and took most of the Wave 1 figures along with them (just a Sandtrooper and Luke remained).  I don't know if it was someone holding off and decided to buy in when Wave 2 hit, or what, but our store is down to just two figures now.  Wal-Mart here doesn't carry them, and TRU has had the same one case on the pegs for a bit now.

It will be interesting to see how the one carry forward figure is managed for each wave from now on.  I love the Han figure, so I don't mind seeing it out there again, but I could also see choosing Boba since he seems to be the one tougher for most to get.  As far as this wave, it seems obvious the Stormtrooper should be the carry forward into whatever Wave 4 is.  Looking at the rumor lists, we could probably figure out the best choice for each wave going forward.  I do have the suspicion we'll be seeing plenty of ROTS Obi-Wan on the shelves/pegs in 2014.

Post by: McMetal on November 27, 2013, 09:23 PM
I find it hard to make any compelling argument for Han over Boba. EVERYONE wants a Boba. A spare set of hands and extra blaster is nice, but who's really going to buy two at that price?

I have seen this wave at least six times now and Boba is always the first to go. That figure is crazy hot. He would have been a no-brainer for carry-forward if I ran the company.

Heck I bought another one and I already had the SDCC exlusive. He's impossible to resist.

The Wave 1 that sits around here is R2-D2.  I agree that Boba should have been the obvious choice to carry forward.  Someone in Hasbro thinks that people only want heroes.

As much as I thought Han being included again in wave 3 was a waste, I'm glad he's still shipping.  Fett's obviously been impossible to find at retail, but I still have yet to see a Han either.  I saw 5-6 Slave Leias at TRU last week, so clearly both Fett and Han are selling through.

I received a case of these from BBTS last week (I didn't have any problems getting an extra Han either), and I'm pretty happy with this wave overall.  I was a little concerned about the Luke after some of the pics I've seen online, but I think it turned out pretty great.  Maybe I just got lucky with paint apps, etc., but the figure I got looks pretty nice.  The Stormtrooper is of course great, and I hope I'm able to find another one or two.  I can't afford to army build these much, but it would be nice to at least have an extra Stormie.  I haven't opened the Obi-Wan yet, because I'm kind of on the fence on whether to continue to PT characters or not.  I thought it might be cool to have the Obi-Wan and Anakin dueling each other, but we'll see.

Got my case from EE the other day and finally had a chance to crack these open. Very impressed again and Hasbro continues to do really great stuff with this line.

Obi-Wan: the most blah of them but a good representation of the character. Didn't have any paint job concerns on him or any of the others. The missing cloak really amplifies the blandness. He can hold the saber with both hands but barely and at this scale and this price that's something the designers have to account for. This is the only collector scale PT Obi we're ever going to get, so he'd better be lights out, and he's not. That being said he'll look pretty good rocking the cloak I ordered off ebay.

Bespin Luke: Tremendous figure. Much better in hand that the pics we've seen. I love this figure. He can do a lot of poses and will go great with Vader when he shows up later. The removable saber doesn't really stay in as well as it should, and the color is now very dull, nearly clear.

Stromtrooper: No surprise, best figure in the wave and one of the best so far. This is the Sandtrooper again with choice differences. I think the holster for his blaster is the coolest thing for me right now as I wasn't expecting it. So I have him rocking the rifle.

SCORE!!!

Best morning ever! On the way in to work I happened to stop by a Target that is usually pretty consistent about stocking new stuff on Fridays. There was nothing new on the pegs but as I was exiting the toy section I spied a pallet of still unopened boxes and as luck would have it, one of them said "SW 6 in W 1 14" so with breathless excitement I ripped that box open right there on the spot, at first only seeing Han's extra hands, but then lo and behold STORMTROOPER!  :D

I went ahead and snagged Luke and Obi-Wan too in case I need to swap out the ones I ordered from HTS for better paint apps. My stormy looks a little wonky around the eyes too, so I may hold off on opening that if I can find a better one. (Hey, it could happen!)

Every night I go home and read all the SW forums for the first confirmed Target brick and mortar sighting of these, and lo and behold I end up being the one to break the news. (Mods feel free to run with this)

Happy hunting people!

Congrats on finding these at retail dude, but you might want to broaden your horizons a bit.  If finding new 6" figures was truly your best morning ever and you're that concerned about being the first to report a find, you might be a little too obsessed.  Just sayin'.

Seriously? Not sure why you would feel the need to post something like that, I was just trying to be helpful by passing along some information that some people may have found useful.

"Best ___ ever" is a common expression and I am pretty sure 99.9% of people are astute enough to not take that literally.

My point about the store report was not some inane "hey look at me" self-wank, it was intended as an example of irony as I personally have been really diligent about looking for the first Target sightings to be reported online and as luck would have it I was the first one to stumble across them it would seem. I'm not looking for cheap applause here.

Sorry if I offended anyone, feel free to ignore my posts in the future.

Back on topic, I hit several other Targets this morning and did not see any other new cases of Wave 1 out and about yet, so I must have caught an early re-stock at the store yesterday.

Saw this wave for the first time. Of course no Stormtrooper but I picked up Luke. I feel that he is a short on the accessories compared to wave 1.

Yeah, I have to agree...and Obi-Wan is even weaker, just the lightsaber. Definitely feels like skimping compared to Han, Sandy, etc.

Got my order from HTS today and the paint apps were a marked improvement over the ones I saw at Target. Still can't seem to get Obi-Wan's eyebrows right for some reason though.

My point about the store report was not some inane "hey look at me" self-wank

Haha.  That just read funny.

We appreciate anyone reporting their finds, especially new stuff...  It helps everyone, ultimately.

No kidding. Since McMetal's post I've been hitting stores far more than my typical patterns. Alas, no luck yet.  :'(

I know I've been keeping a closer eye out, but alas, the local TRU reset with a couple cases of 2013 Wave 1 and the Targets and WMs are either not carrying them or filled with Slave Leias and Greedos.

I live in Virginia and I have found 1 case at Target but so far no sightings at TRU here, although they get 3 trucks this week starting today so I'm curious if their arrival is imminent there too...

Oh, kick ass! I'm also in VA and one store near me has had none in stock for a few weeks. Maybe they'll restock soon with the new wave. WOO! Thanks!

Got my Luke Bespin in the mail today from HTS. I really like him. I wish so much that these were cheaper so the line had a better chance of survival.

Well, we'll see if my order with tru.com went through... I know of your experiences with them, Justin, so I know I shouldn't be surprised if it gets cancelled.  But still, I talked to a TRU rep as I ordered who said they were in stock, so CS will get an earful if I don't get one.

Did you mean HTS or TRU? I hope it works for you.  I ordered the Legends Stormtrooper and the 6" Fett from TRU and both ended up cancelled.

Nick - they have been found at both TRU and Target in the Minneapolis area.

This wave seems to be selling through much like wave 1 did.  The Stormtrooper seems to be the first to go, just like the Sandtrooper sold through.  When I got my Obi-Wan all that was left was Obi-Wan and Bespin Luke.

Well, we'll see if my order [6" Stormtrooper] with tru.com went through...

Got the Stormtrooper in the mail today, so I should be happy about it, right?  There's black paint just between the eyes under the brim of the forehead.  *face palm*  I guess I'm not sure whether to take off the paint (not sure how to do it without ruining the figure) or look for a good one in stores.

Nail polish remover on a SMALL (not for ears but makeup instead or medical swab) might work.  Goof off using the same technique but very VERY LIGHTLY. And wipe it off immediately, would also work.

Goof off is nasty to plastic tho.  Test either on a junk figures pliable bits (arms legs heads) to see how it works and how it reacts to that type of plastic.

The one I found at Target has the EXACT same defect and it drives me nuts. I haven't been able to bring myself to open it...I keep hoping I will find another one that looks sharper. Fat chance, seems like.

Same here... $46 on Amazon and about the same price on eBay... definitely not paying that.

If anyone is looking for Leia or Greedo, the stores around me have a combined 12,000 available.

Its is hard to find a Stormtrooper.

TRU takes it down from their website and has yet to add it back, yet both the other new figures from this wave are readily available. Then my local store keeps restocking Wave 1 on the shelves.  ???

Hasbro Toy Shop can't seem to restock any of these either, but again, you can get Obi-Wan and Luke.

Amazon has only been listing these from third party sellers, normally by now they would have gotten their own stock in on items like these and the price comes down.

Three local Targets I know have been liberated of all their 6" pegwarmers and yet the pegs still sit empty day after day, as if there is nothing even at the distribution center.

I understand HTS being sold out, supply and demand and all that, but why would TRU take the whole listing down? I think K-Mart did the same thing on their website.

Just seems like these are having a really hard time getting any market penetration right now.

Found a fresh case of Wave 1 2014 at my local TRU. Had the Stormtrooper in my hands excited that the helmet was in better shape than the one I ordered online. Looked further down and it appears that this trooper had a little accident at the company picnic. On his right thigh was a mix of red and yellow splotch.... too much ketchup and mustard on the hot dog apparently. I put him back and left him. I didn't want to deal with cleaning up the guy.

Wow, sounds like a lot of crap paint jobs on this guy.  I would think paint would be improving on these by now, especially given the collector nature of them.

You would think, right?  And how does yellow and red paint get on a white and black stormtrooper?

The Amazon page I have bookmarked currently shows $34.99 with free shipping. It has definitely started coming down a bit the past 2 weeks.

Wish HTS and TRU.com would get their acts together though.

Looks like these are sold out then, for a similar price with shipping included... It's weird because the store that was selling them had a specific price for shipping on items ($7.99 for under a pound, which the Stormtrooper is under that weight) and they almost doubled the shipping on the Stormie most likely due to the popularity of the figure.

Wish HTS and TRU.com would get their acts together though.

Yeah, I managed to score mine through TRU.com, found one in a TRU (with sloppy paint apps of colors that don't belong on the Stormtrooper) and left it.  I really wish the QC was better on these Hasbro-deemed 'collector focus figures'.  Otherwise, they're just eyesores.

I've been checking the Amazon listing every few hours for weeks.  The price has jumped back and forth anywhere from about $46 to $34.99 earlier today.

Disney store still hasn't gotten any in (they're $24.99 plus tax) - but there were two more Boba Fetts when I checked today.

Wow, that's a price increase of about $3.50 per hour.  At that rate, I'm going to hold onto mine for 6 months then sell him and retire.

Stormtrooper is back in stock at TRU.com for $17.99 plus shipping. I just grabbed another, will have to get the price adjusted in store since they could not help me with this online. (30% off prices only show up on select 6" figures, what a rip-off)
