Sounds like there might be a possible sign and trade in the works between the Nuggets and the Nets involving K-Mart.  This story is talking about the possibility of multiple draft picks being sent New Jersey's way in exchange for Martin, with Denver not having to actually give up any players.  Carmelo and K-Mart could be a potent combo in Denver.

Also, Kobe is supposedly to announce his decision between the Clippers and Lakers sometime this afternoon.  Wonder which way he is headed?

Saga Collection '06 / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting
« on: July 15, 2004, 10:41 AM »
With these VOTC figures hitting, it just got me to thinking about this again.  Although some of them might have some flaws, this figure line overall seems to represent the best of what Hasbro is capable of.  After the final movie rush is said and done, and since we don't know whether or not the television series will happen or not, what would you like to see happen post Episode III?  Would you be happy with a line along the lines of the VOTC, with figures that are done very, very well...with a lot of time put into the sculpt, articulation, etc....even if the line was limited to say 20 figures or so a year?  Many toy lines seem to have a much smaller release schedule (20-25 figures per year as opposed to 50+ that we normally get from Star Wars), and for some it is must easier to keep up (especially when collecting other lines).

Sometimes I'm not sure what i want, because while I feel "the more figures/ships, the better", I do sometimes feel a little overwhelmed (finances wise) when there is a lot to buy.  I know there are a lot of background characters left to be done (and hopefully finishing out the vintage line)...so maybe the more limited line isn't the best answer in those situations.  Anyways, would you be happy with a line that continued...but in a little more limited fashion...maybe 20-25 collector-oriented, VOTC-style figures per year, even if at a little higher pricepoint (although $7 would be easier to stomach than $10 or $11).  Any other thoughts on what you'd like to (realistically) see the line do after the movie?

Just read over at Filmforce that AICN is reporting that Ray Liotta is close to landing the part of Dr. Doom.  Another interesting, and odd, choice in my opinion...but then again, it is AICN, who has been known to be off from time to time.

Other Toy Lines / Re: What are your other toy 'grails'?

Nice choice Mikey, that is one of my all-time favorite toys.  I remember when I found it in a local drugstore when I was a kid, and I still have the figure today.  Someday I'd like to get a better version of it, but as a kid, GI Joe was all about Snake Eyes to me.  Like I said, one of the best figures ever, to me at least.  That picture really makes me want to have a carded one, or just a nicer loose one.  The one I have has been quite played with, and is somewhat loose in places.  Can't complain though I guess.  Nice pick.

This is the first time I have really kept track of my collecting spending, and it has been a little surprising to me.  I have always assumed I spent around $30/month, but this year has been higher than that.  I'm nowhere in the same league as some others I know, but still higher than I thought it would be I guess.  June and July have been larger months than usual for me though, so that doesn't help things any:

June Purchases
Captain Antilles - $4.99
Tie Fighter Pilot - $4.99
Tanus Spijek - $4.99
Han Solo (AT-ST) - $6.00
General Madine - $6.00
Bossk - $6.00
Dengar - $6.00
Princess Leia w/Glass - $9.99
**Non Star Wars**
Gandalf the White - $6.99
Pippin in Armor - $6.99
Gimli - $5.88
Spider-Man 2 Magnetic Spidey - $6.00
Spider-Man Classics Black Spidey - $6.99

July Purchases
Luke Skywalker (Dagobah) - $4.77
Yoda (Dagobah) - $4.77
Obi-Wan (Spirit) - $4.77
R2-D2 (Dagobah) - $4.77
Cloud Car Pilot - $4.77
Leia Bespin - $4.77
Lobot - $4.77
Han Solo (OTC repack) - $4.77
Han Solo (Vintage OTC) - $10.99
Princess Leia (Vintage OTC) - $10.99
Obi-Wan Kenobi (Vintage OTC) - $10.99
Minimates Pack (Spidey, Carnage, Thing, Dr. Doom) - $7.99
Minimates Pack (Spidey, Doc Ock, Cap America, Absorbing Man) - $7.99
Carnage (SMC) - $7.99

Total for the Year (Star Wars) - $300.35
Total for the Year (Everything) - $389.76

That doesn't include a Vader's TIE I got, since I used a gift card, and a few other birthday gifts.  Also a couple of Spidey comics along the way.  Like I said, more than I expected to spend so far this year...but not as bad as it could be (at least that is what I tell my wife ;))

Thanks for the new topic Matt ;).  I am usually a loose collector, and definitely want a set of these to open....but I'd like to have another one to keep carded as well.  My wife isn't to keen on the idea of buying 2 each of these $10 figures, and I can kind of understand that too, so I'm not sure what is going to happen.  I received a Han via Amazon.com last week, and have just been admiring him through the plastic so far.  Obi and Leia are now on their way as well, and I'm awfully tempted to open them up.  Part of me wants to leave them carded "just in case" Hasbro re-releases these later on, cheaper.  Of course, that will probably be awhile if ever.  I think I will at least pick up a few extras to keep carded if I can't do the whole line (Han, Chewie, Vader....oh heck, all of them would be nice :P).

I'm not sure if this is a sign or not, and don't really know much about this company, but apparently Alliance Collectibles has VOTC Luke, Vader, Yoda, and Lando "in stock" and ready to ship by next week sometime.  They also have the next Unleashed wave (Bossk, Tusken, Aayla).  Hopefully all of these will start showing up elsewhere soon too, can't wait for that ESB wave of figures from the VOTC.

I know, I forgot that too at first...I was like "32?...ooooh yeaaaah"  Wade, Jones, and Shaquille could be a strong trio next season.  Oh, and the Heat also signed Michael Doleac...so the title is sewn up :P

Minnesota Timberwolves...2004-2005 NBA Champions?  ;)

Back to his "roots" apparently?  The landscape of the NBA is definitely changing for next season though...T-Mac in Houston, Shaq in Miami...who knows who is next :).

Joe Defender / Re: G.I. Joe Toys Thread
« on: July 14, 2004, 02:05 PM »
I'm a little late to reply here I guess, but just saw some of the convention pictures today.  Those comic book packs look pretty cool to me, and 3 figures (and a comic) for $10?  Not too bad.  I've stayed away from Joe for the most part (a couple of Snake Eyes), but was quite into it when I was a kid.  These comic packs kind of bring back those memories some...gonna be awfully tempting.  Has anyone picked any of them up yet?  I understand the first few are released, but forgive me if I'm wrong, I'm not entirely up on the Joe world anymore.

Nostalgia really kicks in with Joe as well.  I've run across the old cartoon a couple of times on Boomerang (on Sundays I think), and I've often thought about picking up the DVD Season sets (anyone have them?).  Next to Star Wars and comics, Joe was the big toy line for me when I was a kid.  In fact, I think (like many kids), they invaded each other worlds quite a bit back then :P.
