So has everyone seen this?
Looks like a nice marketing ploy to get everyone to buy rehashed figures (just to get the new coin):
Personally, I'm at the point of becoming burnt out with 3 3/4 figures. This line might be the straw that broke the camel's back.
-
Reminds me of the Freeze Frames when you put it that way. I've never collected for the accessory, so my album is going to be incomplete. :P
Too bad there's not a checklist that will tell us the entire '07 line.
-
Man, I hope my will power is strong enough to keep me from re-buying a bunch of figures just to open and get the coin... :-[
-
So is that the 500th Vader again? You know, the one that was supposed to be special and commemorative and and unique and have some novelty attached to it? ::)
The thing that got me was that according to something I read, there will be around 20 extra slots for exclusives or convention coins. Yeah, I think this is going to go over really well. ::)
-
Yeah, I noticed the "extra slots" comment as well - that could be a headache for anyone who wants to complete a set. I'm hoping to stick to only picking up the figures I really want, but I'll admit I'm a sucker for coins too - so we'll see. Still, I'm not going to buy a ton of repacks to have a complete set. I'm half tempted to order the folder dealie though, that might be a neat way to keep/display them.
-

Already there, been there for a while. Trying to convince myself to NOT start selling all of them off and ignore Hasbro entirely. But I have always like the 3.75" stuff, it's just to the point where the cash grab is too blatant. It's always been blatant, judging by the sheer number of Tatooine Lukes that exist alone but for much of that it was an evolution of the quality of the figures. New cardback, new accessory, repaint - no thanks.
-
After posting about my reduction in basic lines purchases I stumble onto this. I guess Hasbro is making sure I quit the line. Oh well.
-
I'll pick it up to go in the upcoming starfighter. Also to store all of thsoe useless coins.
-
I have a feeling that this figure is going to get overproduced.
-
Pegwarming like hell. You're right.
-
Well unlike the holograms, i am very excited for the coins. I am happily going to put together a full set. I pre-ordered 2 of these albums, perhaps using one for my vintage coin set.
-
Well, still it will warm shelfs, like his counterparts.
Woo! My 200th post in this section of the fourm! :)
-
I like coins too, but I will not buy figures for them.
And we thought 12 mini holgraphic figures in two colors was going to bite.... (well, 3 colors I guess)
-
Do we know if the coins packaged with the figure corresponds to the figure itself, or is it semi-random like the blue/red holo gimmick?
If it does correlate, the burden/fun of collecting them all might be a bit easier. (But not for those who don't buy repacks ;))
-
I like the coin concept... better than the holos in my opinion. I wouldn't mind a whole set, but i know I'm not going to buy every figure and repacks just for the coin.
And, yes, hopefully the coins correspond to the figure.
-
I feel for the completists. You know every show (comic-con, toy fair, etc.) is going to have an "exclusive" coin that is only available at the show.
And the sell price will be $14.99.
;D
-
I do not know why Hasbro does not call thing my their proper names. It is not a coin album but rather a screw you kit. :P
-
It just occured to me that since Vader is not included in wave 1, then it's all but certain that this will be a cased out figure. :P
-
I'd rather the pack-in be something that corresponds to the figure itself...like an accessory or something useful. A coin is just one more thing that I'll never give a **** about.
-

Well, I'll take the coins off your hands if you don't want them. ;)
-
I agree with Lando. Hasbro can shove the coins up their butts.
I actually want to take all the coins and mail them to Hasbro with a nice note, something like this:
"Dear Hasbro, As I am aware of your need to keep costs down and your policy of the 3 Rs (rehash, repaint, repack), here are some coins to further your business or to shove up your ass".

Gatillo, brilliant as always my friend! ;D
-
Just curious if anyone knows if this vader is truly packaged like wave 1. What I mean by that is does it have the peg holder and if unpackaged from the "album" could it just appear as another figure. The reason I'm asking is that I hang all the figures on the wall with a push pin where the peg hangs. If this figure cannot be hung that way, I have no reason to get it. From the pictures it looks like the packaging is a little different (although in the same style), just not exactly the same. Anyone have it yet to verify? thanks in advance

Actually if anyone would like to give me their coins I'll take them....free of charge of course :)

Unfortunately, this isn't to be released until January, so you're a little ahead of the game. EE's description (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS87523) is fairly vague, but the pic makes it appear that the Vader card is removeable from the album. It's just a guess though.

I am wetting myself at the computer...lol super funny!!! ;D ;) Maybe you should pack some fleet troopers, saber attack ROTS Anakins and 500th vaders with 'em!
-
heh! you think the 500th Vader's bad! Heh! Heh Heh! this vader is the dam ROTS VADER, according to the qna. oh, i am so mad. we needed this and those dam bp pics all in ONE day, didnt we? i'm seriously considering quitting at this point, i really am. Dam! >:( :'(
:-\ ...
heck, i'll probbly change my mind after my tsc dsg comes from ebay in a week or so. :P

A little birdie tells me these may be at Target before the end of the month... don't forget to check those DPCIs (087-06-0886).
Until they get here, here are a few high-res images to tide you over.

Apparantly K-Mart's putting the tags out for the Vader w/coin folder too... Hmmm.

The Vader card is removable from the the album. I've had mine for a week or so now.

Where'd you get yours Nick? Just out of curiosity.
-
Where'd you get yours Nick? Just out of curiosity.
I live in the UK and ordered mine through R2Dtoys.
http://www.r2dtoys.com/
I've had all of wave 1 delivered now and waves 2,3 and 4 are on order as well.
-
Ah that's right Nick, I forgot... Cool beans on the folder, is it sturdy?
I'm actually really kind of looking forward (and dreading) the coins this year. The folder really improves my opinion on them as pack-ins though. Without that they'd be as useless to me as the holographic minis.
Now had those minis been almost like little accessories (mini holo Sidious for Clone wrist com's, little holo Jedi for "communications", little more detailed holo Leia, etc., etc.) I'd have dug them, but they ultimately blow for anything other than a chess set. :(

The folder is the real deal. It's sturdy and the art work is really nice.
It has a section at the back for an additional 20 coins.
-
Yeah Hasbro touted that as the slot you can use for the UGH gold coins... Not that most of us will FIND said UGH gold coins I'd wager, but yeah I guess we can all have empty coin holes to dream of the UGH ones in then?
At least 6 will get filled for the Vintage figures anyway. :)
-
Good to know that the Vader card is removable. For as much as I hate the idea of buying the Vader just for the album, I hate having to buy two to keep one mint even more.
-
Well, we were doing pretty good up here in Canada by getting Wave 1 before the US, but there's been no sign of the Vader coin holder yet. No worries though, I'm sure they will be plentiful soon enough.

You can grab it on KBkids.com right now.

I picked one up this afternoon after seeing it in person. After much consideration, i've decided to collect the coins. The funny part is I don't really care for the figures, just the coins. :P
-
Figures can always be used for custom fodder ;D I picked up mine on Sun.I loved the artwork.I might do a drawling of it.I put some of my own poses in it though Like a bigger Qui-gon! ;D

I'm sure you won't have a hard time selling off the figures. :)
-
Oh, Im totally gettin these coins, with this neat album and all!
This year, my gameplan is concept figs, comic packs, coins of ebay in album, and only absolutely cool figures. When I say absolutely cool figures I mean There are only 3 in the first wave (lava miner, galactic marine, airborne trooper)
-

Super Battle Droid.
In fact, just 2 days ago you implied you were getting it.
I was pretty happy with that Super Battle Droid sculpt when it was first introduced in the Yoda/SBD 2 pack. But as you can see courtesy of this pic from Rebelscum.com, the SBD you speak of needs to have it's mold melted down and tossed away for good:
Well thanks for that, you make me feel so good about spending that $7.50+ on it... :P
I'm not opening it, duh, I wouldn't after TAC Wave 1 being out with that SA one. Im keeping it in the package, it was hard to find!
-
I saw a bunch of these on shelves the other day and debated picking one up but I decided to pass for now. If I get one then I know I'll have to track down all the coins just to get a complete set. And I don't really want that Vader figure either. I know I could always sell it or something but would anyone be willing to buy it again? :P Oh well, I'll probably break and end up buying it the next time I see it.
-
I passed on it because they will be everywhere for awhile. I would rather spend the mula on the actual figures. Luckily I found a few today and opted to buy those instead. It's a cool product IMO. Even the Vader looked nice with the coin.
-
Can anyone post a pic with all their coins that they got so far in it?
-
Sorry, kind of a rush job and the coins are very shiny/reflective...
-
Cool, thanks Jeff! ;D
-
The album feels good. Not cheap or flmisy.
How do the coins actually feel in comparison ?
-
I bought mine today, just to keep intact, and look at for a while. Then after a few weeks I'll tear it open and throw coins in it.
I really like it, glad I got my paws on it!
-
Got my album today and opened it. Now the debate comes to if I want to fill it. On the package it says there is a timeline included and the picture on the box that shows this timeline is not what I have inside. The slot on mine just tells about the joy and variety of coin collecting in the Star Wars Universe.
-

They feel about like the vintage ones - sort of light-weight and plastic-like. But they clink like metal. Aluminum maybe? I have no idea.
-
They're definitely metal, and I'd say they're aluminum for sure... I cannot say that for 100% positive, but they're most likely cast aluminum.
-
I guess my fear is being able to complete the set without buying every figure, :P
-

Amen to that... the EU waves are going to ruin it for me. Way to go, Hasblo

HAHAHAHA!!!! The timeline is on the back of the coin collecting paper..I have to start to drinking more.
-
So much for keeping mine intact. I opened it, and I still love it!
Hey, so for that filling it up issue, can any of guys please PM me if they have coins they don't want? I really wanna fill my album! If you can help, go to the trading thread for more details, where you will find a desperate plea for help much like this one and...an insentive... ;)
-

I started the JD 30AC Coin Trading Thread (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=15086.0) for those of you looking to get coins without buying the figure (or just can't find the figure). Maybe it'll help some of us fill in a few holes as the figures are released.
-
The folder is certainly starting to sit around at Target. Better get some other figures in to fill it up.
-
I finally saw these yesterday. I had the impression they would be a lot smaller and real flimsy. I passed it by at first, but decided grab one on the way home. It's fun to have somewhere to stick the coins... Wish it was half the price, though, and didn't come with a 2-year-old repack figure. Call me crazy, but I've never found older, inferior figures to be suitable to commemorate anniversaries. They could've at least stuck the more posable Evo one, that's in Order 66, in there.
-
Just wait and let them sit. They will eventually get marked down. The local Walmart here marked theirs down to $6.65 after a week and a half. I originally wasn't going to buy the stupid thing because of the repack (crappy-ass) ROTS Vader, but I figured for $6.65, what the heck. I think it's worth it for the cool-ass mural on the coin holder (it's actually the only reason I wanted the coin holder).
-
I got a chance to open this up this past weekend, and I really like the coin album. It was actually spiffier than I had thought it would be. Sure, the Vader isn't anything great, but the album itself looks pretty nice. It doesn't make it any easier to miss any of the coins this year though, I will say that. I feel "compelled" to complete the set now. ::)
-
Yes, that is another reason I have not picked it up yet. I stared at it and held in my little hands over the weekend a couple times at different stores debating on getting it or not. For I know if I buy it and open it then it will bug me like mad if I do not fill it and complete the entire set. While I do want to get most of the figures this year I don't know about getting all of them. Sigh :-\
-
Its actually quite nice, at least the vader comes with a coin. If you customize you can salvage his soft goods, saber and glove and sell the head and leftovers in a parts auction. The art work of it is impressive and really compliments the collectibility of the coins. with basic figures at $7 this is a steal.
-
If I can work out a way to get some of the coins, I am gonna cave and get this tomorrow. :P
-
If you wanted to completely turn to the dark side, you could always take the carded Vader out and return it to the store minus the coin album. I've seen dozens of TAC Vader's without their coin album on the pegs at two of my local Targets. The bar code in on the figure card not the coin album. Free coin album.
-

...and pray the person behind the courtesy desk has no clue about Star Wars.

If things are so bad that you have to resort to this kind of action, then maybe you shouldn't be buying toys.
-
And they wonder why the prices of "toys" keep going up...
Needless to say, I caved and bought the album... I like it... Now I am hooked. :P

Odds are totally in your favor that they don't have a clue about Star Wars. All they are doing is scanning the bar code. If its on your receipt, you get your money back. The employees have no clue. The odds of having a star wars collector at the return counter is approxed 700 billion to one.
-
I have to say I really enjoy the coin album a lot. It is really high quality for a $10 thing with an action figure... Vader's still sitting in his package but I did tear open the figure to get the coin.
Overall though the folder is a nice piece so I was sort of surprised at the level of quality there. For $10 it's unique.
I wonder if it'll stop production and be replaced ultimately by the VTAC at that price point, or if they'll run simultaneous. It could be a way to curb the folder turning into the Commtech Reader of '07.
-
I just wanted to double check that this Vader figure is indeed a 100% repack... Nobody's noticed any differences in it, right? Or has no one even opened theirs up? I'm hoping it's just a straight repack, so I won't need to have an opener, so my carded and packaged versions will suffice, so if anyone's got information to the contrary, that there are indeed some differences, please LMK. Thanks!
I'm glad to hear that the coin albums are pretty nice, but the damned coins are certainly an absolute MESS! It seems like about 2/3rds of them are already completely scratched up and ruined while they're still attached to the card. No idea what was going on in the production and packaging processes with the coins, but they came out looking like **** by the time they were carded. Very disappointing, and one helluva pain in the ass now trying to track down some halfway decent looking samples of each coin.
EDIT: ****. I just realized that I do need an opener to have the actual Vader coin for the album, right? It comes on the Vader card, like all the other figures, does it not? Crap. That puts me back to needing three of these again. Dammit. >:(
-
I opened my Vader to pillage the coin. I'll dig out my ROTS Vader tomorrow and make a close comparison and let you know. You might have to shoot me a PM to remind me to do it!
-
Funny, but somehow I didn't even see your reply there, D., and was just re-editing my prior post to point exactly that out. I do need an opener for nothing more than the damned coin. Phhtth. ::)
So don't sweat doing that comparison after all, but thanks for the offer (and reply).
-

I sure wish I'd gotten the thing on clearance for two bucks. ******' ****** repacks. I should keep the album and return the figure for my $10 since it has the UPC on it. LOL
-
I just picked one of these up for $2.48, just for the coin. :P
-

I hate you people. Well, not really. I'm just ridiculously envious. These are sitting up here and will continue to sit. Why? After taxes, these are running $17 and change :-\ For under $3, I'd be all over it.
-
I might have an extra cheapy set for you Brent as I'm still debating on if I want to open a full set of carded figs just for the coins to fill the second album. I'll pass it off to Jeff at our next meeting if I decide to get rid of it.
-
The only figure I collect packaging variants is for Darth Vader, and I got a rather neat one - the Japanese stickered version.

I dont think Hasbro counted out the coins for the album very well. By my count if you got all 60 coins, the 7 Saga coins, the 3 convention coins, and the 4 Concept coins (Luke, 3PO/R2, Yoda/Obi and Greivous) that leaves 6 empty spots. Are there 6 more coins we don't know about? There are not enough spots for all 12 UGH so that doesnt work. I guess we could put in the 6 mail away coins but that defeats the purpose of having their own case and then what to do with the 7th coin? Anyone have any thoughts or have i lost it and forgot something obvious?
-
No, you didn't forget about anything. I suppose to fill in the empty space, one could take some of their extra coins and flip them over and have, for example, an Imperial coin, Rebel Coin, Jedi coin etc...
-
I guess that will work. I wish Hasbro would have thought it through and given us more spots for the UGH coins.

Somehow, I think a vast minority will be adding UGH coins to their folders.

Vast.... minority! Hah! I love it! A buddy of mine and I went in together for some cases of Wave IV... this was before they broke down the UGH assortments. Once revealed, he went in and ordered 1 case of each revision. I don't care about the UGH's but I'm miffed that there was only ONE McVader included in 5 or 6 cases of Wave IV... I have all the "new" figs from the wave now EXCEPT the one that'll be hardest to find.... so much for case orders.....

The Jawa coin is great as a filler, it has a Sandcrawler on the back.

Yeah i thought about that one as well. Unless Hasbro has soemthing else planned I will probably go with Rebel, Galactic, Jedi, Mandalorian, Sandcrawler, and see what else is on the back of the coins or use the Indy coin.

What about the coins from the 2nd Legends wave we're about to vote on? Shouldn't we be getting 5-6 coins for that? Or is that already accounted for in the album? (I haven't found one at 2.98 yet so don't have one)

I just assume that they will be a mix of the same 7 coins (6 movies and EU). I would get a silver EU coin if that is included. To be honest it would be nice to get a Clone Wars coin so that would be nice of Hasbro to include somewhere.

I have Recently been to a Kmart store where I found my Darth Vader and Coin album on clearence for 4.00.
