Title: M & M's Collectibles
Post by: DoctorPadawan on March 25, 2005, 04:11 PM
While bending over and buying gas earlier today, I noticed that the station had put up a M&M "tower" with ROTS artwork on it.  It was a cardboard thing about five feet tall, with Anakin on one side and Vader at the top on the front.  There were little "bowls" that jutted out in front of the box slots that held the differently packaged M&Ms.  I saw packages with M's dressed up as the droids, an M dressed up as Anakin in front of the moisture farm, but the number for my food order was called, so I didn't get a chance to look much closer.

What I did see is that they had several packages of the "Dark Side" chocolate M&Ms directly under Vader near the top of the tower.  I almost bought one, but then I remembered that I hate dark chocolate.  Also, there was no mention of the stuffed M-Peror (the one food tie-in that I really want) or M-Luke, or else I would have bought one to get the coupon for them.

So, if this is any indication, the food stuff is coming sooner than thought in unusual locations.

Gas? Food order? What, are you a car? What were you buying?

I have a case of red skittles in my office that I am forcing anyone that walks by to eat so I can have the wrapper to play the game for a free Ipod.  I have already sent away for my poster from Kellogg Corn Flakes and my R2D2 sound clip bowl from Crispix (so on Easter, I already volunteered to bring the snack mix...good move on my part).   ;)

My family has still not recovered from Pepsi or Reese's cereal yet, so they are NOT happy about this at all.  I'm not sure how much Kellogg cereal I can force them to eat before handing it out to my friends once I get my saber spoon (which I haven't been able to find on any packages yet).

I really want a wind up Padme from BK but that's it so I'll have to keep bugging my niece to let me know when that's available.  Does BK keep posted what toy is available like McD's does??  That will help since I think the office will revolt if I buy lunch and serve them all kid's meals :P.

Yes, Famine, I am a Transformer, and I was buying Energon.    ;D

Seriously though, the place I bought gas was a convenient store type of place with an open grill/restaurant thing.

If I remember correctly (it's been ages since I actually went inside a BK; most of the time it's just drive thru), BK is actually quite thorough about what they have at a given time.  I know that when they were doing their FOTR promotion back in 2001 with the goblets and the toys, they posted what was available at the drive-thru window.  How they'll do it this time around I have no idea, but I don't think it's going to be a McDonalds-type Beanie Babies situation either.

Has BK actually revealed what they're going to have yet?  I missed the RS scan back last winter and I figured they would have made their plans public by now.

You know those talking M&Ms in the commercials? I'm guessing these are like that, only with sabers, blasters, helmets, etc.

Over at COSTCO today I saw a 24 pack of various M&M's that all have the various Star Wars packages.  Even came in a unique Star Wars cardboard tray.  It was running $14.99.  They had the same thing for the variou Skittles as well except you couldn't see the packs inside.  The Sour Skittles had Han on the outer box.

TRU's have a bucket load of M7M products including various tins with M&M packs inside, Vader water bottle head with M7M's inside and numerous M&M packages of their various products.

Check out m&m's great website (http://us.mms.com/us/mpire/) - I love the collectible figures they've come up with!  You can enter for a chance to win them all (surprise, surprise, no Canadians welcome).  Anyone know how you can get these, besides the EE link at the top of this thread?  Are they part of a mail-in offer?

And there's 2 plushes as well:

I was wondering how these would be available as well, because sadly, I'm a little interested in them too.  I like the little "odd" collectibles to add to the display every so often, and m and m's are yummy, so what the heck.  I guess it depends how they are available, and how much they cost.  Will these be at retail, or only via EE and places like that?

I'm still not sure.  The m&m website doesn't tell you how you can collect these.  I was hoping for some sort of mail-in, but so far EE is the only place I can find them.

StarWarsShop.com (http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=3130&ReferrerID=CJADBN-00001) has a few of the plushes, but I'm more interested in the little guys.  Less room to lose.   ;)

I'm curious how these will be released as well.  I'm somewhat interested in them, even though I know I should probably stay far away from them.  For some reason I like to add the "odd" little collectible into the whole mess once in awhile :).

On the same track, is anyone planning on trying to collect the 72 different individual M and M wrappers?  We were checking out at Wal-Mart, and I decided on a whim to pick up two packs, one with Han, one with Chewie.  I look when I get home that they are numbers 4 and 11 of the series of 72.  Now, that's a heck of a lot of wrappers, but might be a neat thing to collect and frame together or something.  Not saying I'm going to do that (that's a lot of M and Ms), but I was wondering if anyone else was considering it?

That price is ridiculous.  I ordered a set from EE not knowing where these things would show up.  I think the price was $30 for each series (consisting of 2 series) .  Expensive IMO but cool to say the least. Its a neat piece that will go well with the Hippo figs released a few years back in Germany that I have in my collection.

Does anyone know if M&Ms is still planning on doing the mailaway promotion for the plus M-Peror and M-Luke dolls?  If I could get the M-Peror for (relatively) free, I think I'd go ahead and do so, but if I have to pay 12 dollars (plus SWS's shipping costs) for a plush M&M, I think I may have to pass.

I haven't seen anything listed on any of the wrappers or in the store displays thus far, and didn't know if the mailaway had been abandoned or what.

Now that we've seen more extensive pictures of these from C3 (looks like 16 figures in all), for those of you who were there...was there any news on these?  Are they indeed coming to retail, or are they some sort of online exclusive?  The Star Wars aisle can't hold too many more lines ;).  I'm slightly interested in these, just because of their "kitschy" value, but haven't decided for sure.  I guess it depends what else is out at that time, how good they look in person, and how many other people I read about collecting them on here :P.
Title: Re: M-pire figure 2-pack assortment?
Post by: Morgbug on April 25, 2005, 03:56 PM
Not an exclusive Brian, they are going out to major retailers (Target, Walmart or whomever wants to sell them) as two packs.  EE just happened to put them up first.  I imagine the ebay stuff is as it always is, someone gets it early and profits from it.

I don't recall an ETA or pricepoint, but I expect they'll be out around the time of the movie or shortly thereafter and the price should be $1-2 less than EE is charging per two pack.

There was an M&M's booth there, they had little 8 1/2 x 11 sheets with the figures pictured on them, but they referred us to the Hasbro booth for questions and to see the figures themselves.

I see, thanks for the update Brent.  I thought maybe they looked like they would be coming to retail, but I wasn't sure with all the other lines being released.  Although I guess it doesn't seem as if they are too concerned about oversaturating things this year anyways ;).  Did you like the figures in person?  As I understand it they are around GH size?

Well, call me amazed.  They're coming to Canada.

I was hoping cheaper than $10 a piece though.  That's going to be $80 for the series...

What are the Galactic Heroes priced at?  Are they $9.99 too?  Or $7.99?

Like Brent said, I assumed they'd be the same price, which I thought would be $7.99.

I loved these when I saw them at C3.  Had to have them,  besides, they will be a big cross-collectible with both the SW collectors and M&M collectors.

I kinda balked at the price tonight, but then sucked it up and grabbed the 4 sets that were out.  Besides I finally had my my online SW Wal-Mart gift cards with me, so I could finally use them!

I found the 1st wave of these today at Wal-Mart while picking up a few groceries.  I picked up the Han/Boba set, and had the Luke/Leia one as well until I put it back.  I thought about getting the OT sets only (with a few extra PT figures), and I might still do that...but money is a little tight right now, so I just went with the Han/Boba set.  If that's all I get, that's fine.  This was Wal-Mart, so of course all of the sets were just strewn throughout the shelf below the figures.  Their section is just ridiculously messy and unorganized.  $6.88 each for these sets seems a bit steep to me though.

I've got all but the Emperor/Anakin and the Dooku/Maul sets.

And those are two I REALLY want!   ;D

Dale's still drowning in the dark side.

Yep, darker and darker.  :P

Yeah so I found them at TRU last night, I picked up only the Clone and Vader pack. The only one that caught my eye.  :P

That's another one I'd be tempted to pick up as well Dale, it looks kind of neat.  I've had the Han/Boba set sitting on my desk here this week...and while it is kind of neat, I don't think these are anything great.  I was thinking about getting the OT characters, but now I'm not sure that I want to pick anymore up.  I think I can live without them.

I bought the only four I saw today so I'm still missing a few.  I bought the series pictured on the back of the Vader/Trooper package so I need the other half yet.  Unfortunately that leaves the package with Maul and the Boba sets to find, those will prove tough >:(

Picked up the Emperor/Anakin and the Clone/Vader sets today, they had a bunch of the other two sets so I'll go back and get them a little later. Now just need to find the other 4.

Thanks!

Found the second wave (ones w/ Boba, Maul, Luke, and the Droids) at K-Mart, so I picked up the Padme/Droids set since there was only one of it.

Just wondering if these 4 have shown up at WM or TRU? I only saw the other 4 at them.

I was somewhat surprised, I was back at the Wal-Mart where I picked up the Han/Boba pack of these last week (Tuesday I think), and at that time they had several of the entire first wave.  We were back on Saturday for groceries, and there wasn't a single pack to be found.  Apparently someone likes these.  I wasn't sure if I was going to get anymore or not, but since they were gone, that made the choice easier :).  I'm ok if I miss the rest, but I was a little surprised they sold so well apparently.

These are great!

Thanks to Dale, I've got the first 4 2-packs in my possession - after taking some pics of the minty packaging, I ripped into them, with the help of my daughter.

They seem painted nicely and have a decent weight to them (and they're just darn cute).  My only disappointment with them is the Chewbacca one - I wish he was "meaner" looking, but I can live with him.     ;)

Unfortunately, I have to find another Grievous & Mace Windu 2-pack because my daughter fell in love with Grievous and has adopted him because of his "neat hat".   ;)

I picked up the Vader set a few weeks ago and I think that's about as far as I will go with these.

The concept is neat and all, but at $7 (for what they are - one piece plastic piece with paint) they are a little too expensive for my liking.

And for the most part, the other sets are not as visually strking (or identifiable) as the Vader/Stormie set.

Anyone else notice that the cardboard inserts are backwards?  For example, the picture of Vader M is next to the Stormie figure.

All of the sets are like this.

Poor QC or intentional?

 ???

I found the Anakin/Palpatine set today, so I think I have them all.  Are they going to make any more of these?

On a related subject, is anyone going to get all the Plush M&M figures?  Are these also going to be at regular retail or just online (like the swshop?)?

It looks like the 6" resin figures are continuing (click pics for links):

(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/7-05/mmLukeResinTN.bmp) (http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=3284&ReferrerID=CJADBN-00001)  (http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/7-05/mmLeiaResinTN.bmp) (http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=3282&ReferrerID=CJADBN-00001)  (http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/7-05/mmBobaResinTN.bmp) (http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=3280&ReferrerID=CJADBN-00001)

We've now got Luke Crispy, Leia Green and Boba Fett Blue, each with a limited edition of 2500 pieces worldwide as a shared exclusive with StarWarsShop.com.  The first figures were Darth Vader Yellow and Darth Maul Red.

Are they going to make any more of these? [figure 2-packs]

There are 8 2-packs in 2 waves:

Wave 1:
Vader & Clone Trooper
Anakin & Emperor
Obi-Wan & Grievous
Chewie & Mace Windu

Wave 2:
Dooku & Darth Maul
Han & Boba Fett
Luke & Leia
Queen Amidala & R2 & 3PO

On a related subject, is anyone going to get all the Plush M&M figures? Are these also going to be at regular retail or just online (like the swshop?)?

I've only seen the plush online so far (SWS.com), but they don't call them an exclusive.  Now that I've started lists, I can't stop, so here's what to expect for the plushes:

Anakin
Chewie
Clone Trooper
Emperor
Han
Leia
Luke
Obi-Wan
Vader

Anakin, Obi-Wan & Vader were also part of a promo from a chain (Stop and Shop maybe, not sure...)

Unless things have changed in the past couple of days, these seemed to have dried up rather quickly here.  I saw several of the "Wave 2" packs (as Jesse listed above) at Wal-Mart a few weeks back, and picked up the Han/Boba one, and when I was back there a couple of days later they were all gone.  I haven't seen them restocked since then.  I saw one stray pack at the local TRU (sitting by one of the "try me" video game consoles actually), and otherwise I haven't seen any of these around town.  No big deal really I guess, I don't think I really needed more anyways.  I was thinking about getting the Chewie set to have "MBacca" to go with Han, and maybe the Vader/Stormie set since it looked kind of cool...but if I don't find them, I can live without them.  For some reason some of these "gimmicky" toys (like Darth Tater and these MPire figures) seem to go over pretty well around here, or at least they sell out quickly.

I managed to luck out and find the last of the 8 2-packs that I needed: Han and Boba Fett.

As much as I love these guys, I'm glad Hasbro was smart enough to realize that this should just be a limited series and have ended the line.

Our Target was just starting to "reset" for the Halloween area when I was there yesterday, so hopefully this weekend we'll see some of these.  I'd like to pick up the Chewie as well, looks kind of neat, and might take a look at the others too, we'll see.

I stopped off at Target yesterday, and after not finding anything new in the action figure aisle (as usual lately :P), I headed over to the candy section.  I ended up picking up the Chewbacca candy/cup, and these are pretty neat.  A much better quality than I imagined as well, and pretty nicely done.  I am tempted to get the other two, but if not, the Chewie is good enough.  At our store there was 2 Chewies (one left after me), 1 Yoda, and a bunch of Vaders.  Cool little collectible.

Last night was a late night of eBay surfing, when I came across these m&m Ornaments.  There are 14 of them, and they appear to be similarly posed to the 2-pack figures.

They're kinda cool, but I'm happy with just my regular figures (although I'm still considering getting my hands on the plushes   ;D).
Title: Re: M & M's Collectibles

Yeah, those look pretty much exactly like the figures, except with a hook placed on top.  These are hanging about in better numbers around here though, but I still just have the Han/Boba pack.  I originally thought of getting more (or all) of them, but I'm trying to cut back and this line is easier to give up than others.

I wasted a ****load of time yesterday hunting the ceramic Halloween thingys. First, I found one lone Chewie, and just knew something would be wrong with it. Sure enough I spotted a chip. Then I found only 2 Yodas at another Target. Both chipped. I must have killed 30 ******* minutes getting lost looking for another Target, and in a city I grew up next door to. When I found the damn place, they had a ton of Yodas, all with flaws. Didn't want the one Vader or the Vader helmet jar thing.

**** these anyway. >:(

I stopped by Target during my lunch hour today to check the SW section (nothing new), but on my way out I saw a new set up for the "holiday candy" area, and not Halloween stuff, this must be for Christmas.  Anyways, it looks like Target has gotten another, different batch of those ceramic mugs (with M and Ms).  This time they are shorter, with a handle, and consist of Chewbacca, Darth Vader, and R2-D2.  They were stocked full today, and kind of neat. I picked up Chewie for now, we'll see about the others.  They also have Vader and 3PO "cookie jars" which looked kind of neat, with a nice metallic finish on 3PO, as well as other assorted Star Wars candy goodies.  Just thought I'd post in case anyone was interested, it seemed like the previous ceramic stuff went pretty quickly.

I was going to post a question just like this the other day. I was looking around eBay to see if they did make a threepio, but I didn't find any evidence to support. It's weird why he's missing from the line. Maybe the yellow peanut M&M had some sort of contractual agreement that forbade his likeness to appear in plush AND as a droid? ;)

Unfortunately, my wife got me eight of these guys for Valentine's Day, so now I need to get the other eight. She's such an enabler. From what I've seen, the artoo, is the tougher one to get.

I think I also need to get the little figures, too, now. Since, well, you can't just have the plushes.  :P

I found the regular sized Vader and Obi-Wan plushes this past weekend at a collectibles shop - I love 'em!

So I checked out eBay tonight and won the larger sized plush Vader (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8791943573), 14 1/2" tall.   8)
