Saga '02-'04 / Figures You Have Passed On, Or Will Pass On
« on: April 7, 2004, 02:07 PM »
Although the recent figures (most of 2004) have been pretty great so far, there are always a few figures that not everyone is fond of.  I was curious which (if any) figures you have passed on this year, or ones that you might leave on the pegs that are coming up.  I guess for completists this isn't an option, but maybe there are some that you don't feel as good purchasing and you're buying just to stay complete.  So far, of the 2004 figs the only figure I have passed on is the Hoth Trooper...but I have considered picking it up because I plan on getting most everything else (outside of re-releases).  I'm not a completist by any means, but if I'm only a figure short of having the whole she-bang, I might consider it.

At the end of last year,  I also passed on (or missed) Tatooine Padme, Ackh Med-Beq, Ayy Vida, Elan Sleazebaggano, Deluxe/Ultra Jango and Obi, re-releases, and most of the regular Clone Wars line (and ships).  I have Anakin, Yoda, the ARC trooper, and one SA Clone from that line.  I also passed on the Geonosian War Room scenes, due to space at the time.  Anyways, anything you have been unhappy with or passed on lately?

Thanks for the reply Scott, your favorite/least favorites were much better organized than my reply  ::)  I agree with you, anything that is an update of vintage figures is great in my book...really looking forward to that Madine figure as well.  I've been reading a lot of positive reactions to that Dengar too, from the pics I've seen it looks amazing.  I only have Boba and IG-88 so far for bounty hunters, so Bossk and Dengar are both welcome here.  However, I could see where the Bossk wasn't really necessary.

The Bullpen / Marvel Legends
« on: April 6, 2004, 03:35 PM »
Has anyone heard for sure when the next wave of Legends is supposed to hit (ML 6)?  I think Entertainment Earth has them around August, I guess I thought they would be here sooner than that (and they very well could be too).  It seems like it has been awhile since 5 hit, but I guess that is ok, not like I have money burning a hole in my pocket anyways :P.  Especially with all the Star Wars stuff this year, and picking up the occasional Spidey fig now.  Just curious if anyone had heard when they were being released.  I guess in a way, I kind of like the slower release schedule of Legends (compared to Star Wars), it allows a person to keep up reasonably well without going into the poor house :).

Since that last post was long enough, here's a few of my favorites (of what I have):

Luke Skywalker - Jabba's Palace (Have really always wanted a good Jedi Luke, and this is by far the best we've seen I think)
Luke Skywalker - Hoth Attack (Another good Luke figure, much better than the "buff" version, one of my favorites)
Lando Calrissian - Jabba's Palace (Always liked the Lando in Skiff disguise figures, and this figure is very well done I think.  The sculpting, paint apps, etc. are all very good, at least on my figure)
R2-D2 - Jabba's Sail Barge (A great figure, maybe the best current version of R2)
Rappertunie - Maybe not the most exciting character, but just a cool little figure.
Ultra Jabba - Finally a good modern Jabba.  Could have been better in some areas, but not too bad at all.  I think it looks pretty good, and I'm happy to have it.
Ultra Wampa - My first Wampa, and I think it is very well done too.  Sculpt is much more accurate than previous versions.

Overall, I think most of the figures this year have been done pretty well.  The only figure I have seen in the stores and actually passed on was the Hoth Trooper.  It just didn't look quite right to me, but if I end up getting the rest of the Saga figures, I won't feel right missing just one.  For now I've passed though, it just doesn't look that great to me.  We've basically only seen the Hoth and Tatooine waves around here (starting to see Jabba's Palace), so I don't personally have a lot of the figures that have been released.  However, thanks to Matt and Mikey, I have been able to get the Wampa, Jabba, Denizens, Lando, Rappertunie, Holo Luke, and Dodonna (thanks guys!).  Looking forward to the Star Destroyer wave (particular Bossk/Dengar, don't have a fig of either of those), as well as all of the Endor Wave.  I would have rather had a new Endor Han w/trenchcoat, but the headsculpt on this new one doesn't look too bad.  Anyways, best of luck to everyone in their searches, hopefully we'll find everything before the OTC invasion.  Looking forward to those cardbacks though :).

Saga '02-'04 / 2004 Saga: Favorites/Least Favorites, Best/Worst
« on: April 6, 2004, 12:02 PM »
Well, now that we have at least all seen the end of the Saga line with the OTC starting up sometime this summer, I thought it might be nice to see what everyone has thought of this year's offerings.  Almost all of the themed waves have made it to stores in some places now, with the exception of the last Saga Wave...The Endor Generals (and Ultra Ewok).  Those should be showing up any time now.  I'm a few figures behind myself, but with the pictures we have seen online and with what you have in your collection...what do you think has been the best and worst of Saga 2004.  Which were your favorites or least favorites?  I think overall 2004 has been a very good year, with very few "stinkers" in the basic line.  Here's a recap (forgive me if I miss anything):

Basic/Ultra Figures - Six "Themed" Waves

Hoth Wave
Hoth Trooper - Hoth Evacuation
R-3PO - Hoth Evacuation
Luke Skywalker - Hoth Attack
Wampa w/Cave - **Ultra**
General Rieekan w/Map - **Ultra**

Tatooine Wave

R2-D2 - Jabba's Sail Barge
R1-G4 - Tatooine Transaction
C-3PO w/Escape Pod **Ultra**

Jabba's Palace Wave
Holographic Luke Skywalker - Jabba's Palace
Lando Calrissian - Jabba's Sail Barge
Rappertunie - Jabba's Palace
Tanus Spijek - Jabba's Sail Barge
J'Quille - Jabba's Sail Barge
Jabba the Hutt w/pipe and bowl **Ultra**
Jabba's Denizens **Ultra**

Battle of Yavin Wave
General Jan Dodonna - Battle of Yavin
Imperial Tie Fighter Pilot - Battle of Yavin
Dutch Vander - Battle of Yavin
Captain Antilles - Tantive IV Invasion (Fan's Choice)

Star Destroyer Wave
Dengar - Executor Meeting
Bossk - Executor Meeting
Admiral Ozzel - Executor Assault

Battle of Endor Wave
Han Solo in AT-ST Disguise - Endor Strike
General Lando Calrissian - Death Star Attack
General Madine - Imperial Shuttle Capture
Ewok w/Glider **Ultra**

Hall of Fame Figures
Anakin Skywalker (Geonosis Hangar Duel)
C-3P0 (Death Star Rescue)
Chewbacca (Escape from Hoth)
Darth Maul (Theed Hangar Duel)
Darth Vader (Death Star Clash)
Han Solo (Flight To Alderaan)
Luke Skywalker (Tatooine Encounter)
Obi-Wan (Coruscant Chase)
Princess Leia (Death Star Captive)
R2-D2 (Tatooine Mission)
Stormtrooper (Death Star Chase)
Yoda (Battle of Geonosis)

I'll leave off the Target Cup figures and upcoming Jedi Council packs, since not everyone has seen these (or all of these) yet.  Also, not sure which TRU 4-packs would all qualify as "2004 Saga".  If anyone wants to comment on those as well, please feel free.

Has anyone tried arranging all the various pieces of the sentinel bases?  Have they given us enough parts to build a 'floor' made out of a sentinel?  Just wondering if they put that much forethought into the process.  Otherwise, why so many Sentinel pieces?

Back to that topic....I have always wondered that as well Morgbug.  I personally don't have quite all of the Sentinel bases (no Sabertooth), but I was wondering how they would look all set up together too.  It would be cool if they made it work out in some way, but they're probably not quite in scale with each other.  Although I don't really know.

I always thought and Avengers movie would be pretty sweet, and if they wanted to do "spin-off" movies off of it (Captain America, Iron Man, etc.) after that, they could.  If they can do X-Men with all those different heroes, why not the Avengers?

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Endor Wave
« on: April 6, 2004, 10:15 AM »
Just saw this morning that GH has their "preview" up for this wave, with several loose shots.  Looks like Han has a new headsculpt, which doesn't look too bad to me, especially for a ROTJ Han Solo.  However, looking at the close up pic, the paint apps look like they leave a little to be desired, but maybe it is better once in person.  Anyways, you can check out the Generals in all their glory here:

Gentle Giant / Re: Questions from a GG mini-bust virgin.

This is a thread I'm going to have to steer clear of if I can.  I've always thought these busts were cool, but were a little too pricey for me, but the OT ones are especially tempting.  I could probably limit myself to just the OT ones, but that would be plenty as it is.  Why do they have to make so many cool Star Wars collectibles?  :P

Changed the title so we can discuss anything comic-book movie related here, but feel free to still list any favorites, what you'd like to see, etc. :)

I always enjoyed the Super Friends as well Matt, wouldn't mind seeing that Justice League team on the big screen.  I think I still have my old Super Powers Aquaman figure from back in the day too, with "swimming action" :P.

I'm with you, I don't really need endless versions of Spidey either.  I'd kind of like to get a black costumed version, but apparently there is another one coming up (according to pics from Toy Fair).  It doesn't sound like I missed out on a whole heck of a lot villain wise...with many coming up in the box set.  I never really had an interest in Morbius either...to be honest I never really knew much about him anyways.  Thanks for your comments Morgbug, its always great to hear some opinions and learn more about these lines.

Yeah, I've been thinking about that box set as well Morgbug.  I know you are a Marvel person as well, have you (or any of you) been collecting the Spidey Classic line throughout?  What are some of your favorites of the line?  Like I said, that box set will be tempting...I also like the looks of the upcoming Marvel Legends Doc Ock, judging by the Toy Fair pictures anyways.  I was always just going to stick to X-figures, and have the one Spidey...but as I read those old comics, etc., it brings back memories of Spidey from my childhood.  Gotta love nostalgia.  Now I'm ready for villains too....but I don't have the room right now anyways.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: How's Star Wars Selling in Your Area?
« on: April 5, 2004, 11:41 AM »
After a shopping trip this weekend (Target and TRU), it looks like the basic figures continue to be the toughest to come by.  Target had nothing but Animated Clone Wars figures (all series 1), as well as several sets of the Maul/Obi glasses.  Still haven't picked up the Maul one though, still debating.  They also had a couple of lightsabers there if I remember right.

TRU must have had the Jabba's Palace wave at one point, since there was a lone Rappertunie hanging out.  Otherwise, a fair amount of the Outlander Club wave (still).  Lots of Achk Med-Beq, R-3POs, and Bail Organas in particular.  They also had 3 each of Jabba and his Denizens, 1 Obi-Wan Kamino Deluxe/Ultra figure, and several of the older Unleashed (Luke/Obi/Sidious).

I'm not sure if the basic figures are not getting there, or if they are just gone as soon as they hit.  They seem to sell particularly well at Target, where aside from Clone Wars animated, everything basic they have had has sold out so far.
