Well I decided to put up scans of my work that Ive recently done. I'll start putting up older work as well when I get them scanned. Now I know these aren't the best but I like them.
Kyle Katarn.
Blue Target Clone.
-
Hey, I love the Katarn!!! That's a genius thought using the Madine head - works perfect, and really doesn't look like Madine. :)
I'm guessing that's a Cloud Car pilot body for him? What else did you use?
:P
-
I used the Cloud Car Pilot body and Bespin Guard Arms. I took the idea from the New Guide to Essential Characters that came out a few years ago.
Thanks for the compliments Chewie :)
-
I really like that Katarn! That's a body I wouldn't have thought to use for him, but it really is perfect! Very nice!
I like the clone as well, but having done so many myself, I'm really burnt out on them. *Sigh!*
-DD
-
Indeed! That is kyle to a tee! I'm definitely doing that when I get my hands on a madine!
-
Great work I have to agree I like Katarn alot, can't wait to see the rest.

Great customs MetalJedi, I like them both...
Like DD, Clones can draw a little bit of a burnout but I like a repaint as much as the next guy. There's some talk of printable decals possibly in the works so people can make their own a little easier too. Like astromech repaints, you see a lot of them it seems, but that's alright...
The Kyle's very creative I think... The color on the shirt, and the pants, looks fantastic, and the pads on the shoulders look really great.
I think the Madine head is creative... I'm not sold on it looking like Katarn exactly, but the paintjob helps it and it does look good. I think Hasbro's head is a little closer (but still not perfect... It's not close enough to the DF or JK Katarn for me... Actually it looks more like a JO Katarn than anything, which is ironic). The head is not a big issue though, it's creative and close at least.
If I'd suggest one thing, a holster for his Bryar gun would look good and help him match up to some pics of him more, but it'd be a bit of work too. I like him though, he looks pretty great.
-
I'm really liking that Kyle Katarn - great job and clever use of parts!
I'm a big fan of clones, so I like your blue Target clone ;D
Great job!

First off thanks for all the feedback guys. As for the holster I still have the CC Pilots holster but it didnt work very well. Not sure how I would go about it.

Darkness era Quinlan Vos
(http://img191.echo.cx/img191/6066/quinlan7tt.jpg)
Yellow Arc Trooper
(http://img219.echo.cx/img219/4414/yellowarc2hw.jpg)
-
Awesome man! Very cool and always fun to see Vos customs. I wonder if you can somehow make the yellow on his face stand out a bit more, maybe a thin dark outline around it?
The ARC is nice too, don't think I've ever seen a yellow version.
:P
-
That Vos is really good! Cool clone as well ;)
-
MJ-
The Katarn and the Vos are fantastic! Great use of madine's head, it really looks like Kyle. I love that CCP body, I really need to get several more :) Vos looks great as well, what head is that?
The clones look good to, nice and clean. And it is cool to see a yellow ARC.
Keep it up! :)
-
How did I miss these earlier today?
Great Quinlan Vos. I love seeing customs of him...I haven't been brave enough yet to try one of my own.
I like the Yellow ARC as well. It's a fun fan-fic custom that makes sense in the SW Universe...
-DD
-
Thanks for all the feedback guys. Its very much welcomed.
SLC -the head I used was from the Battlefield Earth line. It was the Jonnie figure. Just added the first dread from Eeth Koth and painted the hair brown. In my opinion it looks the best.
DD- You should try a Quin custom. I really had fun with this one.
I want to make a Clone Wars custom of him to update.
-
Wow MetalJedi! I didn't know you customize. These are great. I love Katarn and Vos. That head you used for Katarn is probably the best one I've seen for the character. Its even better than the official one.
-
Thanks Phurby! I like the original Katarn but the beard on it annoys me. This looked more natural to me.
-
I really like the Vos. Excellent work!
-
MetalJedi,
Cool looking customs, great paintjobs on them all, especially the Yellow ARC Trooper (a fanfic custom or is there a reference for a Yellow ARC?). A good use of parts on the Kyle Katarn as the Hasbro Madine head works nicely for Kyle. I'd suggest though maybe sanding off the detailing on the CCP chest so as to give it a more flat appearance.
Happy Customizing!

Jeez! Its been 2 months since I updated this. I'll be getting some pics of my new work. Most of them are WIP but I think I need an update. ;D
-
Yes, damnit it is time for an update from you. :)
Even WIP stuff would be nice, or some ideas for your future projects.
:P
-
Just don't him little goody two shoes. This one I owe to Chewie. If it wasn't for his version I wouldn't have done it. Im still debating on if I want to paint his legs or not. And I still have to paint the neck post the correct flesh color.
Body- ROTS Pilot Obi Wan(The ULTIMATE SA Jedi Body)
Head,Hands- Ash figure(of course)
I had to dremel the head to get it on the post but it only took like 5 mins. He has full articulation and ready to take on some deadite clones. Come get some Palpatine!
-
You have a Red leader Obi-Wan? You Bastard! ;) :P
I love Ash Customs and yours is no exception. I've suggested this to someone else before and I've heard other people suggest it too but he'd look cool with a chainsaber or a lightsaw. You could also try drybrushing the boots and maybe the shirt a bit to bring out more of that fantastic body's detail.
-
Man, now I don't know what to do with all of those ROTS Kit Fisto bodies I bought :P I can't wait to find the ROTS Obi-Wan Pilot!
I think your Ash Jedi came out great, the only thing that I would do to make him better that CHEWIE didn't mention would be to paint his pants black so it's more like the movie. I think that would be a nice touch.
-
Wow, I always love it when someone takes the newest HTF figure and chops it up for a custom! ;D
I really like that Ash, he looks great (so does that Obi-Wan body - looks like great fodder). I'd second Greg's comments about maybe switching to black pants.
-
Looks good... if you don't him to really be Ash, maybe a regular skin toned right hand would be cool.
I like the blue outfit, very different yet cool.
Maybe a bit of dry brushing on it to bring out the details... but it's still good as it is.
That Obi Wan body is great, I found a pilot Obi Wan today. Hopefully I can find a few more and can afford to buy them.
:P
-
Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I think I will paint the pants black. And the chainsaber that SLC mentioned sounds very cool. Id have to make one from scratch since he only came with his boomstick.
Chewie I was thinking I could make him just a regular "joe" Jedi with the obi Wan hands and the extra head. Now I just have to find another Obi Wan Pilot ;D
Oh and hear is a stupid question. How do you drybrush?
-
Chewie can tell you better than anyone but I'll try.
It is fairly simple: take a lighter color of paint than the base coat, usually something the same shade or a silverish color, and dip your brush in it the wipe it off so there is almost no paint on the brush then paint over the areas you want highlighted, and you can repeat that as much as need until you get the desired effect.
-
Yep, good description on dry brushing. I try to mix in several colors. It's used to bring out the details in the sculpt.
:P
-
Ok cool! Thanks guys. Ive never done it before but its a must on this custom I think.
-

I'd practice first on a junk figure maybe. ;)
:P
-
Actually I went ahead and did it on this figure. Now Im trying to get where the paint doenst come off where the articulation is. >:(
-
Well here is the "finished" version. Still having problems with the articulation. :(

Looks good to me, nice job!
Did you have to modify Ash's head to fit on the Obi-Wan ball-joint? I want to do one now! ;D
EDIT: what paints are you using? You might have less problems with joint chipping if you use the high-quality paints and if you prime the figure first (not saying that you don't, but I found that this helped a bit in terms of joint-chippage).
..prime the figure first ... that sounds redundant :P

I use that Apple Barrel paint. As for the Ash head I had to use a Dremel to get the head to get on the peg. An easy 5 min job.
-
Cool, I might have to try the Ash jedi ;)
I think you'll find that Citadel Paints will not chip as much as Apple Barrel. The paints go on a lot smoother - you will notice a difference! They do not chip nearly as much as the Apple Barrel/FolkArt/etc paints (especially if you prime the figure). Of course, I think everybody should use Citadel Paints ;), but I really can't say enough good stuff about them. Try out one color and you'll see the difference.
I've also heard that Tamiya makes some good paint, although I have yet to try that stuff out.
Chipping aggravates the hell out of me, so another thing that I've found is to gently cut or sand the joint so that there is less brushing between the joints. Sometimes this doesn't work as you can't sand/cut it enough, although it might help with some joints.
-
It is all about prep work. Try giving everything you paint a light sanding with a really fine grain sandpaper. I use apple barrel paints cause I'm too cheap for the good stuff. 8) I've heard Tamiya paints are supposed to work quite well. They have a little more flexiblity to them, so they do better around joints. Make sure to use light coats, and if needed multiple light coats, heavy coats peel off easier. And you should also use Testor's Dull Cote to seal the figure. The stuff works great and really helps prevent chipping and peeling. I hope that helps.
-
A couple of rough WIPs. Seems like I never have time to do any custom work.
Neyo Clone with Removable Helmet (head, neck post and helmet thanks to Glassman!)
Jedi Master K'Kruhk. Im trying to add more hair for a Clone Wars version of him. Not sure if it'll work out. He won't be completely accurate as he doesn't wear boots in the comic.
-
Lookin' good!
That Jedi Master K'Khurk is going to be really cool, but shouldn't his body be a bit bigger?
I like that you painted the Neyo clone's symbols by hand - I hate the use of decals on figures (for the most part)
-
Hey, those look great! I would say maybe add some additional weather to Neyo. He has some areas that look nice and worn, while others are a bit shiny still. But it's looking very good.
K'Kruhk looks like he's turning out well. I think it's fine if your version has boots. Just be sure to try and add some texture to the areas you are adding to his hair. And the Coleman Trebor is a good base for him. Perhaps a bit small, but still realistic.
:P

Thanks for the comments fellas. Yeah K'Kruhk should be taller but I couldn't find a better base at the time and since Coleman pretty much towers over most Jedi I figured I would use him as the base.
-
Another update. Here's my green starfighter. I have so many regular ones I figure I would mix it up a bit.
-
Cool! That's a great paint job - it looks very clean, very factory.
I like the black and silver astromech, nice color choice.
Do you have a pilot for it? Which jedi gets to ride this? 8)
-
Yep, great idea using green on this. It looks very sleek and ready to kick some Separatist ass. ;D
I agree that the astromech unit's color scheme is perfect for this... I've wondered about how a tinted window might look on one of these? You could paint the inside of the clear plastic black and it would still have its shiny look on the outside. Might look kind of slick.
:P
-
I've wondered about how a tinted window might look on one of these?
SHHH! Don't give away one of my ideas! ;)
I plan on using that press on window tint you can buy at Wal*Mart.

If you check out the customs of us thread you will see who pilots this bad boy. And thanks for the comments fellas! ;D
-
You are very creative dude, I love the fighter, I am into making playsets and customizing ships myself.
-
Vabeesh from the Republic Battle of Jabiim arc. Pretty simple. Has all articulation. I need to put some battle wear on him.
-
Wow, I like it! I remember that Jedi from the comic too. I think I need to copy this custom of yours. It's really good, and I like the robe on him.
:P
-
Thanks Chewie! The robe is from the Target Accessory pack from a few years ago. The body is a ROTS Kit Fisto. Head and hands are from Zuckuss of course. I cut the hands farther in so I could trim them down so I could place them in the arms.
-
Findswoman will sure like this one. :) I do too as a matter of fact. I wish gand parts were more readily availible, I'd definitely copy that one, too. It is a real nice custom. :)
-
Thanks Ryan. I was lucky finding an extra Zuckuss figure on the cheap.
-
looks good metal the only thing besides a little battle damage, might i suggest simply repainting his boots and the inner robes that show through around the neck and chest chest so it doesn't look too much like kit fisto and him shop at the same jedi store. you know how weird it would be to show up at one of those jedi temple shin digs wearing the same outfit as somebody else. "how embarrassing" as Yoda might say.
-
Nice job MetalJedi! I did basically the same thing a while ago, but I used a Bust-Ups Zuckuss for the parts (didn't want to sacrifice my only Zuckuss figure ;)). Personally, I would leave him without weathering, just to be consistent with the rest of the Jedi figures.
-
Time for another update. Nothing real special. Just a "concept" Commander Cody. I haven't seen any pic of him in the v1 helmet so I made one myself. All fan fic. And nothing to fancy added a scope from a Jango helmet and a antenna from a #41 ROTS clone to him and painted him orange. The color is off but I like it.
-
Looks pretty good! I like the orange thighs.
-
Thanks DN! Here's another WIP. My ROTS version of Barriss Offee. I used the screamer head AOTC of her for the head of course filled the mouth with sculpy and painted over it. Then drilled into the head so I can use it on the Luminara neckpost. Still have to paint the torso the right color and get rid of the gauntlets.
-
Cool, can't wait to see it finished.
-
Very cool, the Cody is cool, I could see that being his first set of armor or something before the phase 2 uniforms.
The Barriss Offee though I think is one of your best works yet! I can't get over how great a sculpting job you did!
:P
-
Thanks Chewie. Like I said the Cody was no real great custom. It was just something I threw together since I have a gang of those Red Clone Commanders from AOTC.
Thanks for the comment about the Barriss Offee. It was a real pain trying to match the color to her face. And I kinda messed up when I was drilling into her head but Im gonna leave it for now and maybe wait till Im finished to see if I can fix it.
-
Good lord I haven't posted any customs in this thread forever! Well thanks to Chewie and the crew over at Yakface they got me back in the game so to speak. They have a Force Unleashed custom spotlight and since I'm really anxious for the game I thought I would do one of my own.
This is my take on Vader's Apprentice
(http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c196/inkedjediknight/vadersapprentice.jpg)
I have a few minor things to do on him but otherwise I'm finished.
-
I think I like this version of the guy better than the one we are getting. The chest armor to me looks closer to the game.
-
Yeah, i'm diggin the chest armor too. Is that custom made or it is from another figure?
either way it looks cool.
And as someone who also hasnt updated in a long time, i know how time can get away from you. ;D
-
The chest armor is actually the McQuarrie Rebel Trooper armor painted silver. Glad you guys like it. ;D
-
A couple of more shots of him.

-
Wow, Rob, I've never seen your work before, nice jobs. The last piece in particular is top notch.
-
Thanks Anthony! Looks like I'm gonna have to take some pics of my older stuff as well.
-
It's good to have another customizer here that we get to talk to in person every few months.
-
Very nice Robb. I really like how you put this one together. Is that the McRebel head? I recognize the armor but I have yet to see the figure loose yet so I'm not sure on the head. The silver piping on the tunic flaps are a nice little touch.
-
Yeah that's the McRebel head. Very nice as custom fodder I must say. Glad you like him Ryan.
-
The more I look at this custom, the more I like it than Hasbro's version. This just seems much more in tune with the classic Star Wars style that I like.
-
Thanks Chewie. I have this displayed next to Hasbro's version and while I like their version I prefer my version alot more just due to the fact that I put it together and that it's more in tune to the game. I have a few more customs that are all most finished that I'm gonna take some photos of soon.
