Title: The Official Fast Food Thread!
Post by: SilverZ on January 29, 2004, 10:56 PM
Koo Koo Roo = Poo Poo Doo

Yikes, I decided today to get the "traditional turkey dinner" for lunch at Koo Koo Roo today.   :-\

 :-X

 :-[

If you ask me, I've don't traditionally get food poisoning so bad that it makes my ass fall out after eating a turkey dinner. Not so with the fine food from the KKR on Santa Monica/La Cienega in LA today.

Thought I'd share my discomfort.

People who eat at Koo Koo Roo = Big Doh Doh

Sorry to hear about your ass falling out Jared.  That's gotta hurt...  Hopefully you've learned a valueable lesson though: Never eat fast food that JediMAC won't even eat.

Feel better bud!   :-*

BTW, perhaps this thread (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?board=28;action=display;threadid=3580) may be of use to you at this moment of Hershey despair...

burger king breakfast....real eggs?

I got burger king sausage, egg and cheese sandwhich for breakfast. I took the top of the bread off and noticed the eggs were completely yellow. There were no whites, it looked fake. Does anyone know if it has real eggs in it. It is really good, i am not complaining, just curious

Mostly it's always those fake eggs you pour out of a carton. They only heat it up in a microwave there after it's been cooked already anyway.

Oh I think they might not be fake. There known as a "processed egg products".

What Are Egg Products? (http://www.fsis.usda.gov/OA/pubs/eggprod.htm)

When I as a baker back in the late 70's, we always used processed egg products. They come usually frozen, liquid or dried & in bulk for the larger commercial industrys.

I think they used the all yolk version!  ;)

It wouldn't surprise me if they did. When I worked at Mickey D's back in my high school days, we used liquid PWEs (Pasteurized Whole Eggs) for the "folded" egg sandwiches, like the Bacon, Egg and Cheese. We used standard eggs for the McMuffins.

There was some discussion on one of the news channels yesterday about this. They mentioned that the difference in calorie count between the Super Size fries and Large is a 640/580 (or something close to that).

I swear, they'd do better not even competing with healthier places. I'll run down there right away the day I see an add saying, "You're fat, you know it, and it feels good. Come get a QuarterPounder and Super Size fries and celebrate!"

My wife and I actually don't eat fast food that often (I'm not a big fan, and we try to eat healthy I guess).....but our personal favorite fast food place is probably Arby's.  My dad managed an Arby's when I was a wee lad, and we continued to go there even after he came back to farm...so I always have a lot of memories of going there.  Plus, their roast beef sammiches are just good :).  Used to go to Subway a lot, until a "mom and pop" sub place opened in town and the stuff is a little better (and fresher).  We're also pizza people, if that technically counts as fast food (I don't know if it does).  We also, on occasion visit Sonic...but probably only a few times a year, I think their food is pretty good for fast food.

Well I have a whole list for Fast Food.  Which is the best I must say, You can view my "Top 5"...

1. Sonic - They have the best chesseburgers and their fries are to die for...HMMMMM I can taste it all.

2. Kentucky Fried Chicken - MMMMM, their Twister Wraps are delicious, the crispy chicken strips are excellent.  And don't let me forget their Macaroni and Cheese, delicious..

3. McDonalds - You gotta give this place credit, they do have the best Fries in the world I believe.  Cajun McChicken's are delicious too.  Actually lets just say all their chicked products are MMMMM Good!

4. Subway - Now when you go here you have to have - Footlong - Cold Cut Trio - with everything but cucumbers, with the Jalapeno Chips.  Delicious, oh forgot to mention on Sourdough Bread.

5. Mountain Mikes Pizza - This Pizza Parlor ROCKS!!! Hard, they have the best pizza ever, that is why I am currently employed by them right now! But their pizza rocks, it is overall my favorite, and it does beat out Pizza Hut too!!!

Post by: JediMAC on March 4, 2004, 06:40 PM
Probably in the public's best interest to do without, at least healthwise...  I never really understood the need for all the super sizing crap everywhere as it was.  I mean, c'mon - you get free drink refills anyway, so no big deal there.  And if a regular batch of french fries ain't enough for you, than you're just a PIG!   :-*

I've never supersized anything in my life.  Glad it's no longer going to be an option there.  Hopefully the other fast food joints will follow McDonalds' lead, and our fat ass country can shed a few lbs!   ::)  (myself included  :P)

Yeah, you're exactly right.

Now, Fatty McGee and family, seeing as how they can't have their usual bucket of French Fries along with their horsemeat-and-corn flake burgers, will all of a sudden come to their collective senses, and order some healthy salads all around, sans dressing, that they'll wash down with some icy cold V-8s.

And then they'll all go work it all off at the gym, instead of the typical "let's spend the rest of the day watching Full House re-runs" schedule. . .

Thanks, Ronald!  We love you!

Heh, I live within walking distance of A&W, Wendy's (Tim Hortons), McDonalds, Subway, Burger King, Pizza Hut, KFC/Taco Bell.

I eat way too much of it, especially with work where we spend inordinate amounts of time driving.  We could stop for a meal, but that exceeds our meal allowance (dubbed the McMeal Amount) and it takes up considerable time.  When you have three meetings and they are all in different towns an hour or two away from each other, it propagates itself.

Wendy's is preferable for me too.  I really enjoy the Mandarin Chicken Salad, but the burgers are the best of the bunch.  A&W has some bizarre lure for me as well, but I always regret eating it.  McDonald's usually ends up as a happy meal for me.  Like the burgers, the fry portion is tiny, as is the pop.  Caloric content is reasonable and I'm going to snack later anyway, so why not just eat 450 calories and then the snack, rather than 1500?  Plus I get a toy for the kid and look like a hero ;D

Burger King:

Wopper. Thats it.

How do you guys really feel?

I hate to say, but the utter and complete lack of personal responsibility in the US makes me laugh (not that we're all that far behind).  But Jee-zus people.  It's bad food.  You know it's bad for you.  You made the choice.  If you subsequently choose to go home, flake out on the couch and eat bon-bons (did anyone else find Peggy Bundy hot? :-[) then your ass, along with the rest of you, will get fat.  A lawsuit is going to fix that?  Nuh-uh.  Anyone else think it's a coincidence the same lead lawyer for all the tobacco lawsuits is the same lead lawyer going after fast food now?  Guess where his next targets are going to be?  Candy/pop/chocolate and then going screeching back to the early twentieth century, booze.  Be patient, we're busily denormalizing everything else anyway.  Unless you're a prude, you'll be unhappy ;)

I must say though, there is a dramatic difference in size between Canadian and US supersize.  Back in October when I was in Cincy, I wandered about for two hours searching for a Walmart.  I had flown out early and skipped lunch. so I was pretty hungry.  I supersized.

Holy **** people.

You could have fed a family of four on the fries.

You could have drowned a medium sized dog in the drink AND free refills?!

Bide your time.  Within a couple of years you'll find that the Atkins diet, while effective, has detrimental effects on both your kidneys and your cholesterol (oops, what was that about heart disease?).  The acrylamide that the loony, research dollar hungry researchers are whining about is a negligible factor.  Oh yeah, transfats?  So, people have been eating donuts for 100+ years or so and suddenly their bad for you?

Nope, the reality is that we eat too much of the crap (actually, too much period, portion sizes are huge these days), not enough good stuff and most people think exercise is walking from the car to the house.  Sorry, but it ain't that hard to figure out.  Ask your grandma, she knows.  Too much of anything will kill you. ::)

Title: Wendy's Employees Caught Bathing in Dishwashing Sink
Post by: Matt on March 14, 2004, 07:44 PM
Got this from Bloody Disgusting:

Bath time at fast-food restaurant (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4507081)

Quote
ADVANCE, N.C. - Two fast-food restaurant employees who bathed in a dishwashing sink took their hygiene a bit too far — but didn’t pose a health threat, the county’s health director said.

The caper came to light when a photograph developer spotted pictures of the men taking turns posing, in bathing suits, in a large sink full of bubbles, said Barry Bass, director of the Davie County Health Department.

“From a public-health standpoint, you want the employees to be clean,” said Bass, though he added the employees may have overdone it.

The sink at the Wendy’s has cleaning jets and is used to wash pots, pans and other cookware.
Bass said the restaurant won’t be cited for any health-code violations, because no health official directly observed a violation.

The restaurant’s manager assured health officials the sink had been sanitized and that it wouldn’t happen again, Bass said.

Wendy’s officials did not return calls for comment.

And yes, that sound you hear is Dave Thomas rolling over in his grave.

(My favorite part of this story, though, isn't the story itself--it's the location.  And by "location", I mean "state".)

Wendy's = Finger Lickin' Good :-X

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Woman eating chili at Wendy's bites into human finger March 24, 2005

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - A woman's meal at a Wendy's restaurant brought a whole new meaning to the term "finger food." The woman bit into a portion of a human finger while eating a bowl of chili Tuesday night at the San Jose restaurant, Santa Clara County health officials said Wednesday.

The woman, who asked officials not to identify her, immediately spit out the finger and warned other diners to stop eating, witnesses said.

"Initially she did put this object in her mouth and did bite down on it and wasn't sure exactly what it was," Santa Clara County Health Officer Dr. Martin Fenstersheib said at a news conference. "She's doing OK. Initially she was a bit grossed out it was described to me, and vomited a number of times."

Fenstersheib said the finger had been cooked at a high enough temperature to kill any viruses.

Officials said the fingertip was approximately 1 3-8-inches long and a half-inch piece of fingernail was also found. They believe it belongs to a woman because of the long, manicured nail.

Health investigators seized all of the ingredients at the restaurant and are tracing them back to their manufacturer. They believe the finger got into the chili at an earlier stage.

"We have no evidence of any accident within the employees at the facility itself," said Ben Gale of the Santa Clara County Health Department. "We asked everybody to show us they have 10 fingers and everything is OK there."

The restaurant has had only one minor health violation stemming from a leaky vent, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

"Food safety is of utmost importance to us," Wendy's spokesman Joe Desmond said in a statement. "We are cooperating fully with the local police and health departments with their investigation. It's important not to jump to conclusions. Here at Wendy's we plan to do right by our customers."

"She's doing OK. Initially she was a bit grossed out it was described to me, and vomited a number of times."

Vomited a number of times?  No kidding!  I'd still be yakking.

Any Twin Cities Arby's fans need to check out Maverick's Roast Beef in Roseville.  It's near the Old Mexico on Lexington.  It's the way Arby's should be IMO.  They use good roast beef.
What are some favorite fast food taco places?  In Mpls/St Paul the choices are Taco Bell, Taco Johns, Chipotle and Zantigo.  I'd like to visit a Del Taco sometime.  My favorites are Chipotle and Zantigo.  They both use fresh ingredients that don't make me sick afterwards.  Chipotle has some of the best guacamole I've ever had and I could eat their fajita burritos every day.  Zantigo is way better than running for the toilet, I mean border.  I used to go there several times a week when I went to Lakewood/Century College.  They have good tacos and burritos.

I love Zantigo, I go there for lunch every now and then (the one in Mahtomedi)  Remember when they were the Mexican Fast Food place in town and Taco Bell was an a distant second?  Its too bad their empire crumbled like it did, but they are vastly superior to Taco Bell

And Twin Citians ate at a Boca Chica?  I have been told they are the best, I haven't but there is one on White Bear north of Larpentuer and I've been meaning to go there

Chipotle is probably my favorite spot for Fast Food, can't be beat at all IMO (sorry to Matt C and Qboda :P)

I found a 2nd "Rax" out here.  I'm amazed.  We have 2, both in rather obscure out of the way places.  Neither close to me though unfortunately.  :(  I used to love Rax...  And Hardees too, which last I knew only one was left here, down in a part of the city off the beaten path.

Hardees was big here too for a long time and died for the most part.  Some small towns still have them but most of the ones in the cities are dead

When I was a wee nipper, we had at least 6 Hardees within the realm of my travels...  Limited as they were.

Rax was huge here too.  There were probably more of those, and I really miss them.  Used to get an Uncle Alligator meal with a Turkey sandwich (which you weren't supposed to get), that the girls made for me special after my mom would pick me up from Kindergarten.  Loved those trips.

Here's something odd going on in my area, and perhaps you're experiencing this too Scott, or the rest maybe are noticing this...  Are your Burger King joints disappearing?  I can only think of 2 near me when there were at one point 6 or 7 I could name off the top of my head.

And now we get commercial upon commercial for , "Ihop", Steak & Shake (Though I know of 2 in my area, and one coming to the new mall opening here out in the boonies where I live), and "Sonic" as well.

We have absolutely NONE of those restaurants except S&S which is almost a novelty here since there's one out at a big development west of the city near the Airport, and one at a big development on the Monongehelia River...  That's it.  People actually treat S&S here like it's fine dining because it's such a rare place around here.

Those others though are non-existant in the Pittsburgh area.  Not a one of them exists, and yet they taunt us with commercials relentlessly.  They make me wanna run out and get that nice looking food, and yet I'm left wanting.  *sigh*

If you ever get a SONIC you will be blessed.  Sonic is my "Mothership".  They are very big here in Texas and have basically choked out the DQ's in the Small rural areas.  But don't be fooled they are Nothing like DQ...Sonic is actually good food.

They use the "Pellet" Ice too.  Ok, I have to get a Route 44 Coke (perhaps with Vanilla) on the way to the office now...thanks alot!!!

My wife inspects restaurants among other things for the Health Department.  I am guessing that finger in the food would be a 20 point deduction :)

I start work in a resturant today so I am sure I will see several things some would consider to be unnatural. :D

And oh god, how I love Sonics.

I wish my town was blessed with the greatest fast food joint ever created.

I've been to the Boca Chica Taco House on Concord.  I wasn't too impressed.  I forgot to mention the new Pineda's in West St Paul which is on Robert Street in what used to be an Ember's.  They were pretty good, but nothing beats Chipotle IMO.
My favorite sub place has to be Milio's/Big Mikes.  They have fresh ingredients and their bread is some of the best around.  Unfortunately, they don't have any places in the St Paul area and I dislike going to Minneapolis unless I have to.  Jimmy Johns is close in quality, so I can settle for their food without a problem.

Ooh, Big Mike's was one of my favorites whilst at the U.  Big Mike's, Big Ten and Erbert's and Gerbert's.  They had some good sandwhich shoppes down there.  I've never been to the Jimmy Johns but I have heard good things

Officials said the fingertip was approximately 1 3-8-inches long and a half-inch piece of fingernail was also found. They believe it belongs to a woman because of the long, manicured nail.

I guess they released a picture of the "finger parts":

So, we were headed out to do a bit of shopping at Rosedale tonight and decided to stop into Maverick's RB for dinner tonight based on your recommendation...

I got the $6.55 special - reg RB sandwich, fries, & reg soda.

Pretty tasty beef, much nicer than Arby's and juicy enough that it didn't need much else in the way of toppings/sauce.  Thanks for the tip!

:)

You're welcome.  I know they don't advertise, so a small amount of people know just how good they are.  The owner makes a good amount of money from what I hear.

Mavericks has been there a while hasn't it?  I've never been there...but we used to go to Snuffy's across the street all of the time.  :)

I heard about this one on the radio today - The KFC Double Down 'sandwich' (http://www.kfc.com/doubledown/)

2 pieces of bacon and two pieces of cheese between two fried chicken filets...   :o

Anyone brave enough to put down one of those?

That's a pretty awesome bracket contest.  Surprised to see some of the chains that are on there, especially since some of them are pretty regional.
