I was totally not expecting to hear about this in the leadup to the release of SOLO.  But this is pretty cool news!

Woo hoo!

Took them 10 long years to make this finally happen. McCormick Place isn't ideal, but I get why they would want to be near downtown Chicago. Gonna be a blast no matter what..

I think Chicago is a great location in general.  Easy for a lot of NA to make it there one way or another.

Unfortunately it's not looking good for me going after a reality check from the gf last night that we'll still be in recoup mode from her son's wedding this Fall, so yeah, probably a no-go for me.  Which utterly sucks.

It's nice that it's going to be in a central location in North America.  They tried that with Indianapolis, but I don't think the city or the convention center were big enough for the event.  But the McCormick Center is by all accounts the largest convention center in the country.

There seem to be some complaints about the con NOT being at a Disney Park.  It would seem that scheduling is coming into play there.  I did some research about the busy times of year for the Disney Parks, and it seems that the weeks around Easter tend to be a very busy time at the parks (except for Easter weekend itself).  Celebration is scheduled for the week before Easter 2019.

I can kind of understand why people would want Celebration to be at one of the parks.  If it's there, Celebration can double as a vacation.  And if you've got a family and/or limited time off, it's nice to have some options.  These are considerations that an aging fan base demand.  There's also the matter of Galaxy's Edge opening next year.  But I think timing the opening of that attraction to coincide with a Star Wars Celebration might be a challenge.

F that! You be standing by the mailbox when I come by because I'm only slowing down for the pickup, not stopping.

So anyone get their tickets already.  Unfortunately I’m back to likely not going this year but such is life.  Too much $ for me ultimately, and too many responsibilities at home to pony up that kind of cash for hotel and things. 😕

Booked my hotel off site. Staying close to the Midway airport & can Uber or train it in. $800 Canadian for 7 nights, cheaper than onPeak hotel blocks. Plus I get free breakfast!

I grew up around Midway.  Hopefully you're South of the airport and not too far North.  From what I remember you didn't want to go much past 35th street...

Got my 5-day ticket.  Not sure if I'm going to be able to go all 5 days, but cheaper than buying individuals.

I bought my 5 day as well.  Just like IamSith, not sure that I'll go down each day (I'm reasonably "local") but  I'm looking forward to attending another Celebration even if my collecting habits have completely changed.

Staying at the Quality Inn Midway just south of the airport so I should be fine. They have shuttle service to the airport & back so hopefully can use that. Transport to the Con looks good via train/bus/uber. Flights look good going to Midway from here with 1 stop in Minneapolis. Having my friend come down again helps splitting the costs.

I just got suckered in  to paying for my 5 Day Passes by people quoting today's Star Wars Show. The Show claims the 5 Day passes are almost gone.

They’re claiming 5 days are almost sold out.  I’ll believe it when I see it but that was word on the Star Wars show today.

SW Celebration twitter account just said "5-Day tickets are now 90% sold out" (https://twitter.com/SW_Celebration/status/1004474239825694720).

I'm cheap so I'll be waiting for November to figure out if I'm going or not. :P

Sorry just ran in and posted didn’t catch that Brian already got that.

I’m super cheap and backed out way way early haha.

I thought this show wouldn’t sell out as fast as the last one but it’s beating it by a good bit I guess?  Maybe it is the location being so central.  But man the cost of hotels is off the charts so I dunno.

Despite the whole FOMO feeling I'm getting about this upcoming Celebration, life is getting in the way.  I like Chicago, and I would love to attend, but it's just not in the cards this time around.

To whomever goes?  I went to Celebrations 2, 3 and 4.  If you haven't gone before, it can be an amazing experience.  Enjoy!

Uhh....  about that...

Being serious though, I'm considering going for one day, that day was going to be Saturday, but it looks like those are gone.  So now I'm thinking about going just on Sunday.

If anyone wants to do a JD meet up afterwards on Friday or Saturday, I'd be down for that.

EDIT:  I bought a ticket for Sunday... why not...

I enjoyed the convention.  Got a 5 day pass at the last minute and attended with my brother.   One thing I am very disappointed in is the way the collector's Darth Maul patch was handled.   I was never in the room when the final 6th piece was distributed.   I found other collectors who had multiples of this final piece I need, but they were only willing to trade for other patches.   So I have an incomplete puzzle patch.   This was my first time at Celebration, and first time collecting any Star Wars patch.   I'm hoping to find a way to get that last piece to complete mine.     Any help would be very much appreciated.   Thanks!

Celebration was a blast as always (this was my fourth one). There was a little JD reunion when I ran into Dale on Saturday. Thought I'd share the photo...
