Saga Collection '06 / Re: EE Exclusive Astromech 5-Packs
« on: August 5, 2005, 04:02 AM »
Holy ****...  That price, good god.   ::)

These seem to be more than the Clone sets, or am I wrong?  Maybe not.  Maybe it's just that astromechs in general seem like so much "less" figure.  I mean, they don't come with anything even.

I'm reluctantly going to go in on one set in a case, IF I find a case to get in on with my local buds...  If not, I'm potentially going to pass I think...   :-\

As much as it pains me (I'd like them a lot), this set somehow feels like even more of a butt-**** than the Clone sets were.  I still don't have an Episode 2 Clone Army because of those things...  A mere handful an army does not make.  Price kept me from picking those up as much as I wanted, and I'm really gonna have to ponder what to do on these astromechs.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: "Evolutions" assortment...
« on: August 5, 2005, 12:12 AM »
They've been all over as of late.  First to break them was K-Mart, but I'm hearing reports from Target and Wal-Mart also getting them in...  No Toys R Us.

Also heard KB having a set here and there...  Personally, since KB's are in the mall where I rarely trek, I never hit a KB unless I have to.

Hope that helps your search...  They are indeed great looking sets.  Sets I've yet to find at all though.  :(  The fact these aren't around en masse is disturbing to me.  Even moreso about the Clone Set that obviously is going to be the hottest thing since VOTC Stormtroopers.

I'd like 2 of each...  Sith set looks amazing to me, as does Anakin's set...  I'm just bumming I can't find these.

Toy Reviews / New JD Review: Ki-Adi Mundi (Jedi Master)
« on: August 5, 2005, 12:07 AM »
Beldar Conehead he is not...  This guy doesn't need to claim he's "from France" to stay incognito.  This go-round in reviews I take an up-close and personal look at famed Jedi Master Ki-Adi Mundi!

What can I say?  I love Episode 3's line of incredible Collection 2 Jedi Knight figures.  Hasbro knocked out some of the best work they've done in the entire line.  Even the Jedi's "weak" points tend to be minor compared to their finer qualities.

Ki-Adi probably is the best though, as it is a MAJOR improvement on his previous 2 versions.  Let's face it, E1 and E2's Ki-Adi's were weak attempts at the master, and that's being rather forgiving.  I mean, the Saga figure was pretty much a big "F-You!" from Hasbro with it being 90% re-used parts and a better paintjob.  The closest to decent we got was his half-assed version in the Jedi Council sets, which was still a weak figure.

Not ROTS's figure though...  This time Ki-Adi's got articulation out the wazoo, softgoods robe that is incredible quality and fits him well, a removable belt, a saber you can hook to his belt...  Oh yeah, and a ton of articulation that deserves a double mention.

He has a few minor quibbles but needless to say I liked him.  Check out the FULL REVIEW Right Here, and as always come share your thoughts with us.

At this stage I think he's my favorite Jedi figure though, and with his competition out this year that says a ton.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: NEW TIE Fighter
« on: August 4, 2005, 07:15 PM »
The cockpit's actually pretty close, if not accurate to-scale.  Though the cockpit ball scale tends to vary a bit depending on what source is looked at.

It's a small piece though, and the original Kenner sculpt was pretty accurate in scale and detail aside from the light piece and the battery box of course.  Hasbro's retooling of it made it perfect to me.

The cockpit's opening though is in dispute...  I'm ok with it as-is though.  It'd be better/sturdier if it were one-piece and flipped backwards like the Vader's TIE resculpt.

In Pitt the Clonewars line was weird...

We got Wave I like the rest of the country...  In droves.  The vehicles were all abundant, and even up to ROTS I recall seeing the odd Clonewars ship around (Geo fighters, which are GREAT items, still sat).

I nabbed all but the Gunship.

The figures were ok to me, even Frito Bandito Yoda...  If for no other reason than to see Yoda in a different outfit. :)

Anakin was the king pegwarmer...

In my area though, Wave 2 was probably the tougher of them to find...  Obi-Wan was the easier to get, but Assajj and Durge were almost impossible to find.  I got Assajj who was the ONLY figure of her wave on the pegs, and there was only 1 of her there.  Very weird.  Durge I never did see aside from his vastly superior Deluxe figure.

In the Deluxe range the Clones became rather abundant, but I wouldn't say they were terrible pegwarmers.  I did see them on "sale" at Target AND TRU though at one point along with other Deluxe figures...  Saw the Spider Droid hit a clearance sale too.

The last wave, with Sae Sae Tiin and the SA Clone, actually hit my area en masse at one point and everywhere seemed to have it...  However, unless you got there first, the Clone was GONE.  I remember multiple WM stores got this wave in though, and the Clone would be the only one missing.  I even got to a WM that had just opened in our area, and they had just put out a TON of cases of the last wave from CW,and not one Clone was on the pegs but all his brethren were.  Call it army builders, call it scalpers, but it was disappointing.

Same store, I did find one solitary SA Clone at one point.  I'm assuming army builders beat me to the punch that day.  Such is life though...  It stings more when you see them for sale for $25 each at the Toy Show some months later though, so I'd rather they went to someone who wanted them for their own enjoyment.

Power of the Jedi / Re: Rare? Medium Rare? Medium?
« on: August 4, 2005, 06:53 PM »
Character selection was probably the best ever in POTJ...  OTC was a lot of redoing stuff that, today, sucked...  Dagobah Luke, Lobot, etc...  And of course the rehashes.  The Cantina wave of POTC ranks up there as the best wave of figures in the basic line ever though...  At least in the top 5.

THOSE figs are the type I'd like to see in the new line in 2006.  Heavy on articulation, and obscurity galore...  However, I'm also a huge fan of resculpting stuff...  There's little from POTF2 that (unless it's already redone) I wouldn't redo.  Nein Numb, Zuckuss, Piett, Endor Soldier, Hoth Soldier, Death Star Gunner, Tarkin...   All on my resculpt list. :)  That's a fairly diverse lot in and of themselves though so they'd fit into a new line well, geared at collectors.

POTJ's line was great character selection though for sure.  They even snuck in the main character EU designs which I actually liked.

And indeed, the astromechs, and the Imperial Officer, and FX-7 are all among my favorite figures in the line probably.  I still buy those Impy's anytime I see them.  I wish they'd re-release the Officer variants, or release them in grey uniforms even.  That'd be a whole new army to build.

Hey Hasbro! / Re: Informal petition to keep 7" Unleashed Alive!
« on: August 4, 2005, 06:37 PM »
The new line does look fairly weak overall.

You can add me to any petition on this you'd like, but I'm not thinking it's going to help much, at least right now.

The problem with shortening production on anything is you are also cutting deep into profits on it.  Unleashed seemed popular to me, but then again it wasn't something I was avidly watching either.  I bought Bossk and the Stormtrooper only because they looked so neat to me...  The rest just weren't appealing to my tastes.

Part of me almost thinks it would've been more popular had it been marketed as an addition to the 3.75" line...  Make the basic line heavy with articulation and gear, and a sub-line of pre-posed figures...  That's at least a more solid move than a 2" line introducing yet another scale...

The Wookiee Arcade / Re: Battlefront II!!!!
« on: August 4, 2005, 06:32 PM »
I'm thinking about picking up the original for X-Box just to play with my gf's kids or my friends...  I don't do XBLive so the game obviously has less appeal to me than most.

Sitting with some buds it was fun though,a nd there's definitely customizing potential in them too, I sorta hate not owning them.

I wish the series had a linear story/sp set that went with it...  It's the perfect engine to do more FPS gaming on.  It'd be nice to see them use it that way in the future.

Lots of rumors about us being interested in Lindros. Not so sure I like that idea, even if he came cheap...

Don't blame you in the slightest.  He's never produced what he was expected to, and spends half the time out.  That's a rough one to take even cheap...  With a cap now the owners will be thinking a lot more about guys going down with injuries, and those who constantly seem to do so.

Hey Bob,

PLEASE hold that Jawa for me.  I'll get it off you ASAP then...  Jay's sending me the Tarful so besides a Boga (which seemed the least intresting anyway) I'm pretty well set...  I love these things, they are so neat.

Plastic ones, thankfully, weren't of interest to me.  Eliminated all those tough ones to find.  I never saw any at the show, though I wish I had...  I didn't see them for sale anywhere there though.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Happy for the "Slow Down"?
« on: August 3, 2005, 02:23 AM »
I'm the same as you Dr. Padawan.  we're not in a slowdown, we're at a standstill.

Anything new's been gobbled up...  LOTS of new stuff at the toy show last weekend here, but nothing on store pegs.  I went to an out-of-the-way Wal-Mart tonight that I hit often since it's not too far from me, and it hasn't restocked in ages except for some Deluxe which is what I had on Layaway up there...  So I go to get the layaway, and they have NOTHING new since the last time I was there.  Nada.

I got my Layaway of Deluxes and went home...  Lots of great figures, none out there though.  Seems that retail's just so gunshy from past experiences with Hasbro and movie-based releases...  They just seemingly bailed on Hasbro though and there's these huge dead spots of no product to many areas.  Very weird considering that in 2002 or 1999 the shelves were CLOGGED right about now and we'd all be bitching about the attrocious case assortments.

We still bitch about that, and it's still warranted, but it seems now the past is biting the line in the ass somewhat.  Hopefully we see new stuff out in force here soon.  I want that Obi-Wan Pilot figure NOW.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: VH1's Best Week Ever

It's no, "I love the ___'s"...  Similar, somewhat, format that is substantially more funny.  That said, it's amusing at times and i watch it some...  The Comedians and whoever else is on it aren't ALL as fast as they should be...  Some do seem just ill-informed which makes them look more along the lines of stupid than funny.

Like the Star Wars one sticks out to me because I recall someone taking a crack at Star Wars (something that many comics feel obligated to do so they don't look like the nerd they are), and it just didn't fit especially with the film rolling along publicly with a popularity that none of the prequals had experienced...  The guy's joke just looked sort of asinine then, even though I'm sure everyone understands the, "Yeah, it's Star Wars so you have to make some joke about it..." kind of thing.  He still looked dumb, even to people who aren't fans of the films it seemed.

I love the 70's, 80's, and 90's are all great though...  I could watch the I love the 80's ones over and over, and I have.  Those are great.
