The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)
« on: January 24, 2017, 07:08 AM »
They are breaking with wording tradition. It should have four words not three. Each middle movie had four words.
Attack of the Clones
The Empire Stikes Back
The Last Jedi

They already did that last time:

A New Hope = Luke (or the Death Star plans according to Rogue One)
The Phantom Menance = Sidious and/or the Sith
The Force Awakens doesn't refer to anything specific

I keep hearing the Vader complaint on him cutting down the Rebel Troopers.  First of all, isn't this what we haven't wanted for years?  We finally get to see Vader kicking butt on screen.  As for practicality, in Rogue One the Rebels have just stolen the Death Star plans, but have not had to analyze them.  If Vader manages to get them back, the Alliance gains nothing.  Time is of the essence, hence why Vader is doing it himself.  If the Rebels escape, they can get the plans to Alliance leadership.  In ANH, Vader has captured the Tantive IV and has disabled it.  It isn't going anywhere.  The Rebels are not going to escape.  He can take his time so he sends in the Stormtroopers to pick off the Rebels.

I'm glad the theater that I go to has their own site.  Got tickets for two shows in minutes.  It took me longer to type in my info twice than it did for the order to go through.

Aren't these just critics reviews at this point?  The recent trend is to be that the general public and the critics have had opposing reviews on rotten tomatoes.

I honestly couldn't tell either, that was why I was wondering if they were actually new versions, or just put out to look that way if they had left over stock.

Is it just me, or did SS make it look like they rereleased or put out new versions of IG-88 and 4-LOM?  I know they came out a while ago, but up to the Dengar and Zuckuss news, they were sending out newsletters with order links for the other two.

The problem with the Caps is they can win night after night playing different teams, but they are horrible in a series.  If the Stanley Cup playoffs were best of three series, they would probably do a lot better.  I think teams figure them out quickly in a seven game series and they just don't adjust properly.  Getting hit with a double minor and allowing two goals off of it doesn't help.  Then to come back and get to overtime just to lose also sucks.  They would have probably tanked a game 7 anyways.

The sale is up on the website and they still had the free FOST as of this morning.

Not really, if the Empire is the legitimate government and being a Jedi is treasonous and are to be killed on sight, then Vader was justified in the execution of a war criminal.

I'd heard Gotham = NYC and Metropolis is Chicago or midwest.

That's what I used to think as well.  But either that's been retconned, or we were mistaken.

What's more confusing is that Metropolis was clearly NYC in the Donner films.

If Metropolis was supposed to be in Delaware, they clearly screwed up, since Wilmington, DE would make a much better Gotham considering the immense crime rate and general look of the city.  Superman would have cleaned it up by now, but they could clearly use Batman.

I never had the impression that Ben was surrendering to Vader.  Doesn't he look over at Luke, then smirk at Vader, then lift his lightsaber straight up and close his eyes?  I think it is clear Ben made a sacrifice vs. Vader "murdering" a defenseless old man.

You can't pick the Caps in 7...they never win game 7 regardless of their seeding.

So, who do we think is kneeling in front of the bacta tank?  It looks like someone in a cloak instead of Vader in his mask.  Maybe Vader is in the tank with Palpy off screen and the cloaked figure could be an Inquisitor?

Some highlights from various reviews:

Quote
An even less charitable way to put it is that a clearly excited 7- or 8-year-old kid sitting in front of me busted out crying and had to be whisked out of the theater by his father within the first five minutes....I felt really terrible for that kid immediately, and was mildly envious of him two hours and 25 minutes later.

As my 8 year old wants to see this, I wonder what made this one cry.

I think DC just has gone way too grim and dark with their universe.  I have to wonder if Justice League will be the uplifting one where the superheros come together to save the world.  I have much more interest in Civil War than this movie, especially after Man of Steel.  This has an interesting concept of Batman wondering if Superman is a hero or a potential destroyer, but I feel we have seen the entire movie in trailers.  I also don't like the direction they are going.  Everyone has wanted to see Batman vs. Superman, but now you introduce the oldest Batman to date, with an unknown fate for Robin.  At this point, I would almost prefer a live action version of the old Challenge of the Super Friends with the Legion of Doom.

Disney has some exclusive Lithographs if you preorder from their on-line store.  However, their price is $5 more than amazon and they don't have expedited shipping available, so I'm not sure if you would receive it on release day.  Shipping is also $5.  They do give you a $10 off a future order coupon, so it could be a wash if you order stuff from them in the future.
