I couldn't find a topic on this but I have a question. It was supposed to open next Friday, 1/18, but I can't find any information on that on the various "coming soon" sites like IMDB.com, AICN, BoxOfficeMojo, etc.
The Weinstein site still says 1/18/08 but MGM, who is distributing, doesn't have a single mention that I coudl find. The local theater doesn't have any posters up and the manager said he wouldn't know till Tuesday if it opens next Friday.
Anyone here know any more?
I've been looking forward to this film since before they dropped all the teaser footage on us at CIV but there hasn't been a single TV or radio spot for this, I can't find anyone but fans talking about it on-line..it's like it's a big secret if it's actually coming out.

It was supposed to be released 1/18/08 but most sites I checked are just saying 2008. Checking around more, it appears they have done more reshoots by a different director & some that have been involved are saying March/April maybe June.

The guys indicated in their interview today that the reshoots were intended to give the film a "bigger" feel. The Weinsteins apparently wanted to take a small film and give it more scale. They still talked a lot about the "heart" of the movie. So maybe they aren't trying to strip it of it's emotional side.
Also, the movie should finally be completed by next month. And it looks like TWC is leaning toward a March/April release.
I agree with others out on the net, just go & steal a copy. :D

That post was newer than the last one I'd found. This is the first I'm hearing the March/April release info though.
I know they were supposed to do pick up shots in September and that got postponed till November or so. But, depending on what they were filming it still could have sneaked in for a 1/18 release. I wonder if the writer strike had any impact on it, though. The Weinstein web site still shows 1/18 as of today. You'd think if they wanted the new footage they'd update their own web site to reflect a new release date.
They showed probably 45 minutes of clips at CIV but I understand they had a rough cut for Celebration Europe. Maybe it didn't show as well as they hoped. I think it's got potential to be very funny and entertaining, I just wish they'd get their **** together on it.

Thats the main reason why the release has been delayed so much. They were changing the plot.

The changes were to take the cancer plot out. But according to Kyle Newman and Kevin Spacey at Comic-Con they were putting it back in. But since that was the original cut, you wouldn't think that it would take that long to put it back together.

I love the line about how Comcast is going to do all this advertising for them. Let's face it, January is where films go to die when the studios have no faith in them (cancer plot) or they just suck (cancerless plot).
Just skip the theatrical release, drop the DVD on us with all the extras, multiple cuts and actor/director/producer commentary they have, sell it for $25 and be done with it.

I agree. They have been ******* around with this for far too long. Just make it direct to DVD, and give the fans the option of watching the Directors version or the studio's version and be done with it.

Man, this is really getting ridiculous. I keep looking forward to going to see this movie, and then it gets about a month before the announced release date, and they move it again. Like you said, just put the DVD out there already so we can see the damn movie.

Whatever the case, I agree with the above comments. Release the damn flick already, either in the theater, DVD, Pay-Per-View, Super Channel, HBO or whatever. It's pissing everyone off with these delays that it's getting to the point no one will be interested in it. ::)

February. Great. I guess January is just for the marketing push and then the release in Feb.
I'm not going to hold my breath. Still, January - March is when studios dump the films they don't have any use for. I'm sure the push for Fanboys will consist of running the trailers during infomercials, Tuesday mornings at 3am and during Law & Order marathons (but only on Monday's with an odd date).
I hate to support anything from the Weinsteins but I'm going to see Zach and Miri tomorrow because my support for Kevin Smith outweighs my hatred for Harvey.

Weinstiens are doing everything they can to make this movie suck. What a totally piece of crap poster. At least remaking a Star Wars poster with the cast on it would be funny, but ripping off 40 year old virgin for this movie is a travesty.

They rolled a new trailer for Fanboys in front of Zack and Miri. No mention whatsoever of the cancer plot, one way or the other. I'm assuming that means no cancer plot? Don't know. There also was no release date for it, just a coming soon at the end.
They highlight all the guys in the trailer, no mention of Kristen Bell, and hype all the cameos.

Yeah, that all sounds great till you realize it's opening in only 8 cities. I just found that out this weekend when it was posted to the PSWCS email list. I looked, but I don't see any announcement of it opening wide now. So, what's the point? Why the **** bother with 8 cities? This isn't December and it's not trying to get Oscar buzz.
It's scheduled for the February dumping grounds of movie release dates. I call, again, for the immediate DVD release rather than more of this bull****.

Personally I could care less if this movie ever gets released beyond a file on youtube. It just doesn't look very good and the writing sounds subpar.

If anyone has Comcast cable there is a Fanboys section with a bunch of stuff. Nothing overly exciting except Kristen Bell in a Slave Leia outfit. I have watched it all. It is okay, nothing overly exciting, but funny. I am afraid that they showed all the funny scenes with this.

My wife and I had a date night over the weekend and we went to see Fanboys (Finally it was released in MN). It was a decent movie. I definately wouldn't pay full price to see it again, but it was good. Most of the funny parts were shown in the trailer, and everything else that has been shown for the movie. My favorite part is seeing Kristen Bell in the Slave Leia costume.

A group of guys from PSWCS (http://www.pswcs.com) went to see it Friday in Pittsburgh. Lots of funny moments. A few jokes fell flat. It was an enjoyable flick.
We met the cousin of the director at the screening. He passed out a few posters, and was excited to see it released in the 'Burgh.

Weinsteins thought they had a dud on their hands, so they didn't want to go wide with it and spend the cash on prints. The fact that it continues to expand is good for its prospects of a wide release. The same thing happened with My Big Fat Greek Wedding - they didn't know if they're be an audience, so they expanded it slowly. It went on to wide release and great success. Fanboys per-screen average has been ok but not spectacular, so it's hard to tell at this point what'll end up happening. I think the lack of advertising hasn't helped it.
