Title: R1-G4
Post by: Padawan Wagaboodles on January 9, 2004, 12:51 PM
The detailing on this is nice.  I am disappointed that nothing on it moves except the 2 little clamp arms (which really don't do that much).

The head rotates too, I love this figure, one of my favorites ever :)

The head rotates?  I guess I just didn't try turning it hard enough--I couldn't get anything to twist.

Yeah you have to give it a good turn but it moves and it moves pretty freely...again great figure!

My head on this figure was tight! I did not want to risk breaking it. Now that I know for sure the head turns I might work with it.

I just missed this figure at my Targe apparently.  They did have the R2 bartender figure though and the Hoth wave.  I would have been super stoked if the R1 would have been there.

It feels like the base wants to turn, too, but it doesn't.

Other than R5-D4, 3P0, r2, and the gonk, do we have any other figures already made or in the works to put in our dioramas with the jawas and owen?

While not technically there, the treadwell droid that came with Beru makes a nice stand in.

Figures that have been made:

Uncle Owen
Luke Skywalker
C-3PO
R2-D2
R5-D4
R1-G4
4 or 5 Different Jawas

Still needs to be made:

LIN-V8K

Treadwell WED Droid

2X-7KPR

Then you could add in a Gonk, Cz-3 and RA-7 as a not good enough to sell trio  :)

There is also another 2X model on the Lars homestead

And here's Little Abe Lincoln...seen inside the Sandcrawler

I would take at least one of each of those.

The head on my R1-G4 does move, but it's a very tight fit.  I was kind of worried about forcing it to move, so I just pretty much left it as is.  It also seems like there's a circular joint more toward the base of it.  I didn't try moving it too much, because I didn't want to end up breaking this awesome figure.  The detail on it is amazing... spitting image of the one in the ANH.  I love it!

I got one, and this really is a great figure.  It's certainly as tall as my C-3PO.  And who would've thought this figure would get 4 points of articulation?  What, with the head, base and two utility arms that's more than I expected.

This figure is outstanding, These are the kind of accessories I love to get for my Cantina - Mos Eisley diorama. Keep em coming Hasbro, the more the better I say. Population is growing. :D

at least they didn't add some "hidden missle" like they did to R2-D4

Hasbro really has no excuse for not making a great (or good even) R5-D4 yet.  If they can make R1 that good and all the arms and articulation for the POTJ FX-7, then we should have a good R5 by now.   In fact, the vintage FX-7 is leap years ahead of the POTF2 R5.   They have to be coming out with one in 2004, but when will it be confirmed?   This is LONG overdue.

No doubt, R5 has been on rumor lists for a long time now, in fact I don't even list him on wishlists anymore since he seems to be a virtual lock for release at some point, Astromech repaints are a well overlooked cash source for Hasbro

Also R1 is seen in two spots on Tatooine, he's also standing outside the Cantina

Don't think you'll get any disagreement with that assesment Pat!  I think one reason for the delay in finally getting a new R5, was the R5 droid that was offered in the Star Tours line.  I'm guessing they're trying to space the distribution of R5 out a little more, which sucks since most people don't have access to the Star Tours droids, not to mention they cost TWICE as much as standard carded Saga figures.

And I just know all the customizers out there are just chompin' at the bit to get a decent and affordable R5 droid on the market...

As for R1-G4, yeah - it's a great figure!  Finally managed to find a couple extras of him this morning actually, after more than a month since I last saw any.  I was a little concerned about it's heighth initially (lack of), but several people pointed out that it was pretty accurate, so that's cool!

Now just give me a damned Sandcrawler to stick him in front of dammit!   >:(   ::)

I agree with ya on that one.   I've had that wrote down in my little black book for almost three years as "pending".

Sandcrawler.  Fall.  Target.  Live it.  Learn it.  Love it.

*j/k, Hasbro confirmed the Sandcrawler as a Fall 2004 Target Exclusive during Wizard World in Chicago this past August.

Let's just hope that's an exclusive that isn't delayed.  I can't wait to get my hands on that bad boy.   And thanks again, JediMac for the Star Tours droids.   I love that R5 droid, but it's definitely not R5-D4.   I didn't notice the 3rd "eye" was missing when pics of the Star Tours R5 were first out on the web and was very excited, even if it did have excessive carbon scoring.  I still think it's one of the best in the line, but that doesn't mean it's R5-D4.

Back to the topic at hand... I still haven't seen R1 or for that matter, any of this wave on a peg, nor have I seen  an Achk Med-Beq figure either and I'm beginning to get worried.  I was able to find all of the Hoth wave.

The big blast hole is neat too, not for R5-D4 but neat nonetheless, this is why I have hope he's coming, and he might come with the Sandcrawler...last I had heard, RA-7, a Jawa and ??? was what was included

Yes indeed, I ca'nt wait for that Sandcrawler myself. I hope the scale of it is somewhat decent.

Think of how nice a "cinema scene" would be of a new R5-D4, LIN-V8K, and the treadwell WED droid from page 1 of this thread.  Then we'd have good stuff for a purchase of the droids diorama.
