Title: EE Exclusive Comic Packs
Post by: Scott on June 28, 2010, 10:59 PM
Sounds like the shelved packs are coming to EE

http://www.asmzine.com/geekly-rewind/2010/06/28/hasbro-star-wars-qa-june-2010-answers/#more-511

I would assume that would mean:

Jarael  and Rohlan Dyre
Deliah Blue and Darth Nihl

Plus some others I guess

I'm sure the Noghri/Ralrra set is another one since Hasbro has confirmed that one and it was supposed to be in the same wave as the Camie/Fixer set.

The fourth though has me stumped.  There were rumors of a Fel/Isard Rogue set and a Montross/Mareel set at one point.  Also Nom Anor was confirmed for a comic pack, but I think Hasbro said he'd be a basic figure instead.  Hmmm...

I'm not sure what the 4th set is going to be either, but if you read the answers that Snowtroopers.ca received yesterday, Hasbro mentions an exception to their no female Imperial Officers rule.  That would lead me to think Fel/Isard.

I'm not even worried on sets 3 and 4 as long as I get my Delia Blue, Jarael and Nihl figures!

This news pleases me greatly - I am so glad that the Darth Nihl / Deliah Blue set is gonna see the light of day. The Noghri set will be cool since it will be a nice companion piece to the Luke/Mara and Thrawn/Karrde sets we already have.

I guess the Rebel Pilots comic pack must have done pretty well for them - which is great, good for EE! Hopefully, these 100% new figure sculpts will do just as well, if not better.

YAY! I will most def try to pick up the Nihl/Blue set. I'm still considering the Jarael set. It's great to see that Hasbro went out of their way to find these sets a home, considering what a crappy job it can do in terms of distribution.

With the 'Legacy' comic series ending (D@MMIT! >:(), I'm glad we're getting Nihl. He'll look great with Krayt and Talon. It's a shame, though, that we're only getting Cade and Deliah, and not Jariah Syn, to complete the crew. It makes sense that Deliah is packed with such a strong and appealing character, since she most likely wouldn't be too great by herself.

I'm geeked, and will likely nab extras of at least the Noghri set, as that's one I really was looking forward to.

Fel/Isaard could be interesting too.  Comics continue I guess...  in some capacity.

This is exciting! I just removed these from my wish list and was sad that we wouldn't get them. I wish though that they would come to retail so that I wouldn't have to pay shipping on them on top of the higher price they will be at EE.

And because I am required by law to plug these (and giddy as all heck over Baron Fel), the The final 4 comic packs are now up for pre-order on Entertainment Earth. (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HS87504PP&id=JE-405087801)  They are Entertainment Earth exclusives (with the sticker and the whole ball of wax.)   I recently got a glimpse at the protos in person, and while I'm easy to please, I really like these.

4 figures have new sculpts
2 figures have new heads, coloring, and minor changes
2 figures look great and are mostly new bits but will be revealed later

As always, they are slightly cheaper (about $15 per) when you buy a set/case over individual figures.

Great news Adam.  But let me say...DRAT!  I'm disappointed that you weren't able to pick up the Noghri & Ralracheen comic 2-pack from HEIR TO THE EMPIRE.

Well, they aren't a higher price; $59.99 for the set of 4 which is $14.99 each, or about retail.

Deliah Blue/Darth Nihl
Baron Fel/Ysanne Isard
Jarael/Rohlan Dyre
Jaster Mereel/Montross

I really couldn't give a rats ass about Mereel and Montross, I don't really need two more Mandos but would have loved that Noghri.  I'm okay with Isard and Fel...more indifferent, really, but I'm fine with that.  The price is okay and I'm happy to get the Deliah and Jarael sets.

Hmm, I would have rathered the Noghri set than Mareal/Montross, but oh well - I'm happy that we're gonna get Deliah Blue, Darth Nihl, Ysanne Isard, Roland Dyre and Jarael - I guess the rest just come along for the ride.

Kudos to EE for bringing them in at a decent price.

I assume these will still be in the red/white Legacy theme packaging? Also, Baron Fel says he includes a helmet - which one or is that left over from the previous Fel comic pack descriptor?

Hasbro mentioned using the Noghri/Ralrra set at 2011 convention, so maybe they kept it for that reason?  (that's what I'm hoping anyway  :-\)

This is my hope as well.  I like the Felt/Isard set a lot...  A) That's more a normal looking Fel compared to his TIE character, and B) Isard's kind of cool I guess.  Fel's cooler though.

The other sets are really icing, but actually I'm more interested in Montross/Mereel.  I played Bounty Hunter,  loved it, and just the fact that hints at Mereel's past a bit and has Montross in it as a major baddy, I loved it and can't wait to see how they do the figures.  I never read the comic they're from, but Montross was quite badass in the game, and Jango couldn't stand him.

I must have missed the memo - what's wrong with the 2008 Juno Eclipse body? It's got 14 points of articulation, what more could you want besides perhaps different feminine proportions?

I never said there was anything wrong with the Juno figure. I'M just not particularly pleased with it. I'M not very fond of that figure - although it is a good figure.

Ok, fair enough.

I just think as far as Female Imperial Officers go, I doubt at this point in time, Hasbro could churn out anything better and since all female Imperials are EU, the chances of them ever revisiting a female Imperial body is slim to none.

I guess I've just become too complacent - it's got 14 pts of articulation, it can be posed in a variety of poses easily, to me there's really no need to update it,

Thank you for your patience. It appears that Hasbro had initially announced a price of $59.99 for this item, so we queued up all of our marketing tools with that price point. However, right after we sent the e-mails out, they send us a new memo announcing a $69.99 retail price. So, the website was updated, but we cannot stop the e-mails already in the queue and being sent. We have adjusted the price in your order to $59.99 since it was "printed" in the e-mail you received, however the official retail price is $69.99…. The change will be reflected in your online account within 24 hours. Thanks for your understanding.

We're offering this to EVERYBODY at the lower $59.99/set price, but only through the end of the day on Friday.  We've even got a countdown timer showing how long the sale is for so people know not to miss out on the pre-order special.  So yeah, order today, it's cheaper than it will be on Saturday!

...and the final 2 figure pictures went up. (When I edited this post.)

Awesome.  That's a great collection of comic packs.  How come those didn't come out in stores and instead we got any of a dozen sets that frankly were nowhere near as exciting?  $15 per plus shipping is a bit steep for me right now, but hopefully I'll be able to get a couple.

That Mereel/Montross set is pure badassery to me.  It's a shame that one has fallen to exclusive status like this.  I thinK Maul/Owen would've done surprisingly well at retail too (since Maul tends to).  Some of those others I think would've tanked...  The Delia Blue set, the KOTOR set perhaps...  Comics were weird like that.

I'm so disappointed the Maul/Owen set is a limited run. Wouldn't it seem that, by making it a wider release, Hasbro would be making more money than just a limited release? Although it's also a little pricier than a standard CP.
Title: Re: EE Exclusive Comic Packs
Post by: Jesse James on July 16, 2010, 02:59 PM
I think that it's coming as an exclusive is fine, since the line itself was dead before the figure's release.  It was designed with the idea the comic packs were going to survive...  The line didn't.  It wasn't all anti-collector-packs that killed it either.  Quite the contrary, as there's TONS of collector-only packs that helped kill comic packs (Leia/Xixor, I'm looking at the piles of you still at my local WM's).

Would this have done well?  Maybe, but it wasn't slotted in earlier to get the chance.  It maybe wasn't thought of till late, and that's just the breaks I guess.

Good news from the SDCC presentation panel!

The sets are selling well, and, if they continue to sell out, Hasbro might take this as a possible hopeful indication to maybe bring back the CPs line. Yay! ;D

They should.  There was always demand for good comic packs; they just screwed up the format with some shoddy character selections like Xizor/Leia and half of the Wal-Mart ones, which prevented Wal-Mart from ordering non-exclusives.

I wonder if the Xizor pack would have done better if he'd been packed with Dash Rendar instead of Leia. Nice to see theres some hope of these being revived someday though, it was always one of my favorite sub-lines. I'd love to see them get a full run of Heir to the Empire. Still quite a few characters they could do from that.

Nice to see theres some hope of these being revived someday though, it was always one of my favorite sub-lines. I'd love to see them get a full run of Heir to the Empire. Still quite a few characters they could do from that.

I always felt that the set would have done better if they included Guri instead of Leia. The Leia figure in theory was sort of okay too, where it ran into problems was the horrible execution of the lower legs of the figure, giving Leia the appearance of "cankles". If you look at the second Clone Wars Padme figure that figure has the inset ball-jointed ankles and her legs are TINY. There's no reason why Leia's legs couldn't have been done small like that, and if they didn't have a way to do it at the time, then they should have just left the figure with knee joints and skipped the ankle joints.

The real shame is that the Xizor figure is pretty nice, from a modern sculpting point-of-view, but he's a modern version of a character that wasn't very popular in the first place.

So what you have in this set is a nice version of a not-so-popular character and a really lousy version of Princess Leia, in an outfit that I don't think ANYONE was really clammoring for.

If they were gonna include a Shadows of the Empire comic pack in the Blue/White Legacy line, they should have just gone with a Dash Rendar / Leebo set which would have appealed to a much larger audience - even to kids who have no idea who Dash Rendar is.

It's interesting that they made the comments that they did regarding these exclusive packs selling well. If you think about it there is something great about each of these sets:

Baron Fel and Ysanne Isard

Darth Nihl and Deliah Blue

Jarael and Rohlan Dyre

Mandalorians Jaster Mereel and Montross

So to me, not ONE of these sets are as bad as say the Marvel Darth Vader/Rebel Officer, Marvel Han Solo/Chewie, Marvel Luke/R2, Marvel Tarkin/Stormtrooper, Republic Clone Trooper/Clone Commander sets, i.e. a set that is nothing more than REPAINTS of previously issued figures.

There's also one VERY important thing about this wave too - if you buy a case, you get 2x each of four NEW sets. There hasn't been a Comic Packs case that offered that EVER - there was always either a pack with funky colors on the figures or a re-packed Comic Pack from the previous packaging iteration or wave.

Cases that feature waves of four/six/eight NEW figures/2-packs/etc... that are packed EVENLY two-per-case are always going to do well online because it is appealing to either the collector that gets one of everything to open and one of everything to keep MOC or it's appealing to two collector friends who want just one of each and they can EASILY split the case and not have any left-overs/un-wanted product.

The person who REALLY should be taking note, is the moron who comes up with the basic figure assortment pack-out ratios.

My buddy out here ordered a case for us to split, and I opened one pack so far...

Lemme tell ya, I'm underwhelmed by this one set.  The Baron Fel/Isarrd set.  It's really kind of a piece of ****, to be blunt.

Isarrd is as good as it gets in the set, and that's sad since she's a new head on an old body.

Fel, they just arne't doing anything right with this figure, and this one is pretty much as bad as the first.  I'm bummed that, as near as I can tell, we won't ever get a decent Fel figure.  May have to add some detail to my thoughts on this item.
Title: Re: EE Exclusive Comic Packs

Captain Piet and I shared an order of a case for each of us to save on shipping.

We met up Friday night so we could split up the shipment so that we both ended up with a MOC set and an opener set.

Anyway, I opened up all four this morning and I agree with Jesse - the Fel set is pretty weak and while I do like the extra pilot helmet and the removeable Imperial Cap, there's really nothing else "great" about this set.

My favorite set is hands down the Jarael/Dyre set with the Darth Nihl/Deliah Blue set coming in second. It's very easy to appreciate two sets where the figures are 100% new and feature a ton of articulation and great sculpts. The Nihl feels a tad small to me, but I'll have to see how he stands next to Talon and Krayt in the comics to see if he's just smaller in stature.

The two Mando set is also nice with a nice mix of new and old parts that work well together.

All-in-all, these four comic packs make me really miss this sub-line. It's a shame it didn't do better in the stores.

I really hope that the Luke in White Pilot Gear/Early Adventures Han Solo makes it out at some point, I wouldn't mind having either of those figures in my collection.
