So guys, when are we getting together for drinks (As I recall Jesse said a round was on him--I'm holding him to it ;)) and socializing
with at Hooters?
Any locals know where the nearest Hooters is, or what not?
Cheers!
Kevin

Matt would know all aboot H@@ters. :D
Other than that, no idea where to meet. (http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/konfus/a050.gif)

If not Hooters, there's always the Hard Rock...
-
There is a Hooters on Hollywood Blvd across from the Chinese Theater.
-
Bill was suggesting a meetup today. Although I still am not a fan of that restaurant, I'm always up for meeting with the JD crowd.
So howsabout it?
-
I know the SoCal guys are talking about a get together at C4 for the forum. Not sure what it is yet or when.
-
Hooters by me usually has decent specials on beer pitchers so you guys hsould try to get together... I, unfortunately, cannot make it to C4 or I'd dig meeting up since I didn't get to talk to you much at C3, Josh...
Bill, you ought to get the PA crowd to go in general... Raspet always raved about Hooters because I think he sold them their chicken or something. Dude loved those sandwiches and Hooters used to be the Western PA's place to meet up for lunch at the Toy Show till we discovered better beer a half mile up the road, hehe.
But yeah guys this should happen. :)
-
I'll go, as long as it's easy to get to, and they aren't employing any 16 year olds. ;)
ETA: I just recently found out that my local Hooters has a "Schoolgirls" night every Wednesday where all the waitresses dress in schoolgirl uniforms. Anyone else heard of this? I've yet to check it out for myself.

This is heaven... I have to catch one of these !

Really? That must be new. Did that replace the Hamberger Hamlet? The nearest hooters I thought was in Santa Monica which is a trek from the convention center.
There is a Hard Rock cafe at Universal City walk. It's not too far, but requires either car or subaway travel. Parking is $8 by car.
-
I'd be up for the Hard Rock too. I collect Hard Rock pilsner glasses and I've yet to get one from L.A.
-
I already had them on my list. A buddy of mine collects the pins.
-
Any word on whether the L.A. HRC will be doing a SW pin for C4 like the one in Indy did for C3? Missing that pin is my biggest regret of C3.
-
If they do, looks like I will be getting something out of it !!! ;D

The Hollywood Hooters is fairly new. But I think it has been there a year already. I went back in September when the Chinese theater was showing Spiderman 2 with a Q & A with Stan Lee and Kevin Smith.

Master Phruby and I were talking and are thinking that Hard Rock would be easier parking wise, and a lot safer.
So if that's cool with everone, what night works out better for everyone? Friday or Saturday? I was thinking we can meet at a landmark outside of the convention center at 7:30pm and then car pool to Universal City.
-
Friday works better for me since I'm going to that Conversation with Carrie Fisher on Saturday. If Saturday is better for most I could leave early to get back to the con.
-
Saturday works better for me, have to go to a wedding rehearsal Friday night. We could meet at the Magic Statue on the NW side of Staples.
-
Saturday would be better for me, too much to do Friday night. ;D
-
Yeah, I was wondering if anyone was going to that Carrie Fisher talk. Sounds like Tom is. Roger, are you? I have a feeling you might be as well... What about Beth, Josh, Bill, etc.? You guys have any plans those nights?
I was also thinking something quick and easy (for any night really) might be the Fox Sports bar right there in the Staples Center, just outside of the Convention Center. I've only ever been in there when we've gone to Lakers games though. Does anyone know if that place is always open, or is it only open on game nights? That'd be a good spot for any of the other nights, for sure, if it was open...
-
I just made arrangements to head home Sunday night instead of Saturday night, so now either Friday night or Saturday night works for me. I'm not going to the Carrie Fisher talk, and I really have no plans after hours any night. I won't have transportation though, so if it's somewhere "off-site" I'd need a ride, but any place is fine with me, provided the temperature inside is under 100°. ;)
-
Friday night would be bad too for a lot of people, I think, since the opening Ceremonies are at 7:30-9 (or somewhere around there).

I have heard that it open only during Staple events which there is none those two nights. Worst case scenario I would have to leave early if we get together Saturday night.
Any other possible days that we could meet?
-
You guys are all invited to come and hang out at the Ultimate Group Project booth. Heck, if anyone wants to booth sit, we still have slots. You could hand out stickers and help run the raffle. I'm not sure if the naked dancing twi'liks have been booked yet.
-
FEI (For Everyone's Information,) we can make a reservation, on-line, at any time for Hardrock.

Is that different than the Gordon Biersch bar/pub I saw someone mention on RS?

I believe it's just a bar with no food.
-
Yeah, pretty sure it's a different place, Rog'. No idea where that place is that you mentioned, but I'm open to finding multiple spots to hang out at right nearby, if possible, since the Con will be 5 days long.
Good to hear Hard Rock takes reservations. Maybe we should give it another day or two to figure out just how many folks might be interested in going. So far, it sounds like these folks are in:
JediMAC
Darth Anton
Master Phruby
Jay Double
mousedroid
DSJ
Ryan
DarkKnight, how 'bout you? Still waiting to hear from Beth, Josh, Bill, etc., so hopefully they can swing by as well. I think we should have at least a couple cars, maybe more, to carpool over in, hopefully.
-
We could always try The Pantry.
Menu (http://www.pantrycafe.com/to-go-menu.pdf)
If we go there, they only accept cash.
-
Sorry, I haven't been checking this thread this week, but yeah...I'm going to the Carrie Fisher thing. I think that's the only night this week I have plans for sure.
I definitely want to hang out with you guys though...>I will be checking in. Matt, you have my cell if needed. ;D
-
I'm pretty flexible. I think that other than during the opening ceremonies (7:30-9 Friday), I'm pretty open to everything. :)
-
I'm thinking I will be at the Hard Rock earlier then 730 but will stay to hang out with you guys for a while. I figure I could stay till 815 or so and be still in time for the Fisher Event.
-
I would be interested in attending this event, but why is everyone so keen on Hooters?
It's actually a bit of a schlep from the downtown area. It'll take a while just to get there. Universal City Walk is very cheesy and the parking is extremely expensive.
That's to say nothing of how silly a place Hooters is anyway.
-

Hooters was pretty much ruled out a couple pages back. It just used to be a silly (albeit fun) JD tradition to meet up there. But yeah, that's totally out of the way in this situation.
We were planning on trying to go to Hard Rock Cafe on Saturday night now instead. Some of the outta towners were interested in going there, and if we try to carpool a bit, parking wouldn't be so bad. Cheesy is also kinda "touristy" for the traveling folks as well. I think parking's only $8 there now though, right? Or has it gotten higher in recent months?
-
The most recent Hooters push was a jab at some guy on another site that was embarassing himself but couldn't see it... Long story but it was basically a big crack at him for making himself look like a putz was all. Have fun guys, wish I could be there this year. :)

Sorry, I meant Hard Rock, too.
My point was that the Uni City Walk is far from downtown and parking is at least $10 a vehicle.
Personally, i hate the City Walk and Hard Rock Cafe (especially on the week-ends), but that's a personal preference.
if you're going to travel to a new city, why go to a chain you can go to any place?
-
I thought there wasn't/isn't jack to do around the con center for the most part, or so I've been told by the folks who live there... Seems you're gonna have to go somewhere to do something, regardless.
-
The Pantry like Jay suggested is really the only decent eatery close to the Convention Center that can hold big groups that's why I believe the Hard Rock was suggested as it's close and wouldn't be confusing direction wise to out of towners.
I'm gonna try to make as I promised some other friends I'd hang with them on Saturday night.
-
Hard Rock is just for Saturday night, and I know some of the out of towners were wanting to check it out. But by no means were we going to limit ourselves to that outting only. I'm definitely down for going to the Pantry pretty much any/every other night, if that's easy. Or the hotel bars, or whatever.
P.S. Some of you guys (and gal) suck for already getting together without me tonight. >:(
-
Finally saw The Pantry tonight, and that's just a little hole in the wall dive restaurant. Might be ok to grab a bite in after the Opening Ceremonies let out around 9pm, but it'd probably be a little more lively and social to walk across the street to the Holiday Inn and sit down in their nice bar area for a little while to relax and have a drink. Not much else nearby though, unless you hit the Wilshire hotel and mall area about 20 minutes away...
I'll probably try to get in touch with everyone tomorrow afternoon to see what folks want to do. Most of us will be at the Hasbro Q & A at 1:30 though, so stop by there if you can!
-
If that Fox Zone ends up opening up that may be our best bet. Holiday Inn looked kind of small.
-
I made reservations at Hard Rock for Saturday at 8:20PM.
To car pool, we'll need at least 3 cars. Any locals who are driving to the convention that day, please let me know, that will determine whether I drive or take the subway.
Let's plan on meeting under the Deathstar in the lobby at 7:30PM.

I'm out of the Saturday meet up but possibly me be able to go there later to say hi, depending on how late you guys stay and how I figure out a way home. How long are you guys usually hanging out?
-
Good to have dinner with you guys at Hard Rock last night. The Panty is actually a very historic place. People line up outside for hours to get in there. It doesn't look like much but the food is very good and you get lots of it. We had lunch there last wednesday. The place is owned by the former mayor of LA Richard Reardon.
-
I want to see the drunk pictures of Coleman. What would a JD gathering be without those?

Drunken pics of Colman, in Panties? That will SOOOOO help make up for missing CIV. :-*
-
I suggest a gallery of those be mailed directly to Tracy because, well, I honestly have no desire for that kind of obsenity around here. It's just wrong. And I'm sure they're pink too... *shudder*
-
Although I didn't make it to the Hard Rock, I wanted to say it was a real pleasure meeting some fellow JDers in and around the UGP booth. Its so cool to put faces to names (or screen-names).
