So it looks like we're getting a bonus Mini Hologram figure packaged with each figure in the new themed waves. But that's all the info that I've heard. Does anybody know how they will do these?
I'm guessing each figure will come with a mini figure that goes with whatever scene the character is from. Example, Vader will include the mini Palpatine from the Saga Dooku, R2 will include a holo Leia, etc. Of course, Hasbro could always do a random packing thing with certain holograms being rarer than others, but that might piss off variant collectors who must track down each type.
Personally, these interest me at the moment, but I'm not expecting much.
Any thoughts on these?
-
Well i dont know what to think yet, but its enough of a ploy for me to buy the re-packs if they all have different holographic figures.
-
I suspect they will be Holos of the charachters, but that would get expensive.
-
Having it make sense (IE: Vader comes with a mini Holo emperor) is too much work for Hasbro.
The mini Holos will be the same as the 3.75" figure - IE: Obi Wan figure comes with Obi Wan holograph.
I would assume the pose of the holograph will be the same exact pose as the figure as to reduce the amount of modeling time on the designer's part.
-
Yeah, a little version of the same carded figure makes the most sense. I've already decided that I can pass on a complete set of these, as I don't buy repacks.
-

I would guess the exact same thing.
I really doubt these holograms will really add anything to the figure, but I'd like to be wrong about that.
-
Some of these could be cool (and useful in dioramas and such)--mini Obi-Wan, Grievous, Emperor, Vader, etc.
But perhaps this is the occasion we'll finally get the Holo Wicket I've been half-jokingly predicting. ;)
-
I don't see the idea working for every figure. For some it would be cool, but most just don't need one IMO. In the end it's just another gimick, possibly to justify raising the Basic figure price by another buck.
If anything, I would like the stands to be taken a step further to allow the creation of certain interconnecting ground environments like Imerial floors or the desert, etc...
-
I'm of the opinion that mini-holos could be a really cool idea.... Depends on what they wind up offering though as to how cool they turn out. The idea of mini-holo Jedi for communicating Clones/Jedi Council scenes is really kinda neat. I like the Mini-holo Sidious we got a while back, and it makes a neat mini-holo Emperor for a Stormtrooper com-scene... Weird, but I like that stuff.
Not the most interesting idea, but it comes as at least a better concept than Freeze-Frames and FOrce Files which I liked both of those for the most part.
I still hate price increases on any level though.
-
they gotta slap some piece of trash in to 'justify' the price hike. And we ALL know it is coming
-

I'm not sure about that. I think Hasbro likes to throw a little "extra" in - we've seen the Holograms, Freeze Frames, Commtech Chips, Force Files, etc. I think they're just trying to return to this little bonus for both collectors and kids.
I think they've got potential, I'm just not sure how well the idea will be executed. :-\
-
Mini holos make more sense than commtechs, force files and freeze frames. At least the mini holos make for a nicer presentation when displayed loose with the figure.
Force files and FF's always end up in the garbage....commtechs too! 8)

Well if done well i think these were cool. I enjoyed the other pack-ins as well, i guess it all goes back to be loving the POTF coins. The commtechs could at least be used for stands.

I'm not listenng.... I'm not listening!
-
Does that mean I win a mini vader hologram with his fists on his hips talking to general Veers on Hoth during the attack???
WOW(sheesh)
-
All I want is a Grand Army of Rancor Keepers, Hoth Hans, and Nien Nunbs. GARKHHNN.
jk. :P
-
Ahhh, the accursed Mini-Holograms.
I noticed that a guy has the Carkoon Wave up on eBay:
Way over-priced Saga 2006 Wave 1 on eBay- $70 for 4 figures = ::) (http://cgi.ebay.com/STAR-WARS-SAGA-COLLECTION-2006-BOUSHH-LEIA-IN-HAND-LOT_W0QQitemZ6008115541QQcategoryZ2476QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Here is what he had to say about the figures he had (I changed the text to nuke the ALL CAPS stuff) -
Saga #1 Princess Leia (Boushh) with Luke Skywalker Mini-Hologram
Saga #2 Han Solo with Queen Amidala Mini-Hologram
Saga #4 Barada with Darth Maul Mini-Hologram
Saga #5 Chewbacca with Han Solo Mini-Hologram
So, I guess we know the identity of the first 4 Mini-Holograms...
I don't know about the rest of you but I am totally stoked about the Mini-Holo Maul with Barada! One of my favorite scenes from Jedi is where Barada is speaking with the mini-holographic ghost of Darth Maul! Or remember the time Han talked with Amidala via Mini-Hologram? Awesome! [/sarcasm] :-X
-
Maybe Vader will come with Holo Jar Jar
-
WTF? Is that for real??
I'd love to have the mini-Maul, and the Queen Amidala wouldn't hurt either, but it sucks that I wasn't planning to buy either of those figures. Hmmm.
-
I have heard reports now that these are being packed randomly. Anyone else hear this? Reactions?
I myself would be disappointed, but it would not get me to buy every conceivable combination.
-
I can't remember where I read that now, but I've heard the same thing.
I think it's a really poor idea on Hasbro's part. So now I'll have to be careful which figure I buy to avoid getting doubles of the Holos. Annoying is the best word I can come up with. :-\
-
The Pit of Carkoon wave is now in-stock at ToyRocket (http://www.toyrocket.com/) ($30 each! ::)) and they have the following disclaimer on all the figures:
"and randomly packed, exclusive hologram micro figure. Collect them all, each sold seperately. COLLECTORS NOTE: Unfortunately, due to the random nature of the bonus micro figures, we will be unable to take requests for specific hologram insert figures."
So, there you go - more evidence that these are in fact randomly packed. :-\
-
You just knew this **** was going to happen
I assume that there will now be "chase" ones or "store exclusive" ones to hunt down. >:(
-
******* retarded. >:( ::)
-
Hmmm,
I agree it's a bit on the slow side of Hasbro... This is me thinking for the well-being of completist carded guys... I don't personally care about the random packing of these but I do feel for you who DO care.
I will say that I like the idea of mini-holo figures. I've supported that idea since, about 5 years ago a buddy of mine cast a mini Vader for me and other customizing buds and the figure is a must-have for with Veers. Other mini-holo's are cool then in my book and could be useful to openers like myself.
How hard would it have been to just pack specific holos with specific figures though, and simply not doing a holo for some figures and repacking one of the other "main character" holos for with those odd background guys. IE: pack Fett with a mini fett, but pack Barada with a mini fett as well, and pack Veers with a mini Vader, and Vader w/ mini Vader... You get the idea.
Though, a mini holo Veers and Derlin wouldn't be bad IMO since I'd dig an Imp Officer mini holo for dioramas, and a Hoth Rebel mini holo like he's "reporting in" to the command center or some stuff. Yeah I'm thinking too much.
-
We make fun of it now but those things will end being as collectible as the coins, freeze frames and commtech chips.
-

Yeah, but when you got a Luke Freeze frame figure, you got a Luke Freeze frame with it. This is just going to get more people into buying SW who could care less about the hobby, only re-sale to the morons who will have to have all 6 Leia Boushh holo varients. :P
-
From 'Scum (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Details_On_The_Saga_Collection_95573.asp):
Apparently, "Good Guy figures" will come with "good guy holos" and the same for "bad guys". They do appear to be very randomly packed. These particular figures came with Luke Skywalker (Jedi), Queen Amidala, Han Solo and Darth Maul. The good guy holos are on a base with the Rebel insignia and the bad guys have the Imperial insignia.
Unfortunately, there will probably be A LOT of theft with these. The tape is right beside the holo figure and all someone has to do is cut the very small piece of tape, peel back the corner and pop the holo out. No doubt there will be a lot of cards that are tampered with.
Lovely. Just frikkin lovely. ::) >:(
For what they are, I actually like the mini-holos, but so far the distribution and execution just blows.
-
After seeing them a little better in the pics, I don't mind the overall idea of the holos either. A neat pack in, along the lines of freeze frames, coins, etc. The random packing is going to be a real pain, especially for those who want to get all of them. Plus, if there is a certain one you want...perhaps a favorite character(s)....there's going to be a lot more searching. The idea is nice, but the execution might not be...as is often the case with Hasbro it seems. We'll see though, these might be a neat little "add on" to collect.
-
What do you guys think about the sculpts. It looks to me, via the Maul, that some will have action poses. I actually would prefer more static neutral poses as they would be more movie accurate, even on characters who never showed up as Holos. But that's me.
-
I don't know - it almost seems like a cheap way for Hasbro to sneak some "minis" into the regular line to try in some way to hook kids/collectors on the WotC Miniatures figures.
Yeah, that's a real "conspiracy theory" type idea, but those mini-holos (especially in action poses) remind me an awful lot of those figures.
I keep saying I'm not going to worry about these mini-holos, but I know eventually I'll be putting up a trade list looking to complete my set... :-[
-

Ditto. If it's a character based collectible, I'll want them all. Completism is a dangerous disease. ::)

I don't mind the action sculpts - it seems to add a little more interesting look to them.
-
It's marketing at it's best to randomly pack the mini holo figures - completists will more than likely buy multiples of figures to complete their holo collection.
Great for Hasbro, bad for completists and collectors who have been diagnosed with OCD.
But I don't like the fact that they are easy to tamper with (see GH.com). This will cause MAJOR problems because of the cheap ******** that like to replace new figures with old piece of **** figures.
I really could see someone replacing the holos with WOTC minatures (commons).

I think this will cure me of my OCD. 8)

Hasbro (http://hasbro.com/starwars/pl/page.news/newsid.B30FC4A2-D56F-E112-44D5B7D89D5082B0/dn/default.cfm) has a nice update on these...
Q. The Star Wars basic figures for 2006 come with a hologram figure how many figures are there? Are they randomly-assigned?
A. The hologram figures are randomly-assigned there are 12 in all:
Emperor Palpatine
Darth Maul
Queen Amidala
Darth Vader
Yoda
Count Dooku
Boba Fett
Han Solo
Rebel Trooper
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Luke Skywalker
Stormtrooper
-
Im not happy about the random thing, but am relieved that there is only 12 (so far :P). The Rebel Trooper seemed really strange to me. Im somewhat surprised with the Stormtrooper as well. I thought they would of stuck to main characters. So whose building an army of holo Stormtroopers ;)
-
If it is truely random, I feel sorry for all the variation hunters.
-
If it is truely random, I feel sorry for all the variation hunters.
Well, let's see -
Early reports on the figures say that the "good-guy" holos (Amidala, Han, Luke, Ben, Yoda, Rebel) will come with the "good guy" figures and the "bad guy" holos (Vader, Emperor, Maul, Dooku, Fett, Stormtrooper) will come with the "bad guy" figures.
So that means that each carded figure should only have 6 variants possible (barring any errors which may likely happen). That means you carded uber-completists can look forward to:
approximately 56 basic figures
@ approximately $6 each
X 6 holo pack-ins possible
= $2,016 total
And that is just for starters - each additional variant/running change adds another $36 to the total... :P
-
If it is truely random, I feel sorry for all the variation hunters.
Yeah, I can't wait to see the people who openly admit that they will get all varients.
-
People are going to go all nutty for these holograms. There has not really been a pack-in that has not been collectible except for maybe the commtech chips. I don't think those went over the best. But the coins from the vintage days, freeze frames, commtech chips, they always find a group ready to collect them. Same with this. I personally could take them or leave them but I certainly won't be complaining about getting them.
-
Sadly I'm interested in the mini hologram figures.
Happily I'm an opener anyway, so I should be able to acquire most of these holograms without too much effort.
I can see guys like Colman and Pete Fett pulling out what hair they may have pretty quickly though. I'll share a bit of misery because of helping out a guy in Japan with the trilogo stuff. I'm hoping his appetite for this stuff is pretty small.
-
Can you say "A variation collectors nightmare?"
Seriously, if the variation collectors really are going to try to complete these sets, what else is going to be left for everyone else? Either that, or Hasbro is going to bankrupt some people.
-
I definitely think Hasbro does this on purpose. What better way to suck the life out of product.
-
So whose building an army of holo Stormtroopers ;)
I am!
-
Holo-Rebel Fleet Trooper Still Sucks.
-
So whose building an army of holo Stormtroopers ;)
I am!
LOL good luck!

It could happen, i'm planning to only get "bad guy" figures.

Q. The Star Wars basic figures for 2006 come with a hologram figure how many figures are there? Are they randomly-assigned?
Count Dooku
I could foresee the mini Dooku hologram being well used in CHEWIE's Rykrof Enloe series.
-
I cant wait!
-
I'm thinking I really only want Vader and Padme. I'll probably trade most of the ones I get, I'm not too into them.
-

I want all of them except for Han and Luke. I'm undecided on the Rebel Trooper.
I'm particularly looking forward to Dooku (!!!11!1), Vader, and Yoda. Unfortunately, methinks those three will be the most coveted and thus, harder to find. :-\
-

He sucks.
-
For the love of all that is holy, Hasbro, may a good Rebel Trooper before Jesse James has a stroke. >:(
;)
-
We'll see, that Reb. Sentry keeps showing on lists. :) I'm thinking he'll be the Honor Guard though, not a Fleet Trooper, and thus he could be exempt from sucking.
-
Think I'll just get what I get in a nice card- not gonna stoop for Hasblow and look for all the holo's- I'm above it. ::)
Sorry H, this fish doesn't bite 8)
-
I find it funny how they are going to have some of us, looking for the hologram mini fig instead of the actual fig. Maybe that is why this line will have many repacks. ::)
-

I for one absolutely refuse to lose sleep over which hologram is packed in with these new figures. If I happen across the hologram that people can't find, I'll pick it up for the wall or whatever - but I'm sticking one on the wall and opening one and the holograms are probably going to end up buried at the top of 12 foot ceilings, or tossed in a bin with all the other random junk Hasbro has thrown at us over the years.
-
Have the pack-in's ever worked? I have to admit, I like the freeze frames 'cause I like good photo's, but it seems pack-in's has met a lacklust response. In fact, I wonder why Hasbro bothers to try?
-
Well said Anthony, my fav was the flashback photos because you could "interract" with them by pulling the tab.
-
Have the pack-ins worked? Well kind of I guess. People went nutty for the freeze frames there for quite awhile. It worked with the US Weequay although that was more to do with the rarity of that particular carded figure I suppose than the freeze frame itself.
The coins from the original POTF line worked well. Some of those are very expensive on the secondary market....for a "free" coin.
Commtech chips did not go over that well I don't think but you probably have a small number that get into those.
Now we have the holograms. Some people really like hologram figures. I can see it going over better than the commtech chips and freeze frames. Mainly since they are actual characters from the films. I guess it will depend upon how hard they are for people to get who are interested in them. I am sure some peope who would not normally go for the re-packed Barada will by Barada since there will be some holo figure they don't have yet.
Watch the Rebel Fleet Trooper will be the most rare and whatever figure he is carded with will be worth gold :)
-
Who else thinks that Hasblo will ammend there statement and add more holos to the line up instead of just releasing the known 12?
Anyone? Anyone?
-
Who else thinks that Hasblo will ammend there statement and add more holos to the line up instead of just releasing the known 12?
Anyone? Anyone?
Beyond a shadow of a doubt. There've already been pretty good sales of these figures as the completeists (aka nutjobs) strive to get each figure with each holo. No way Hasblo will pass up on that opportunity.
I'm happy to have them, for what little they're worth, much like the POTF coins. But I won't go out of my way to get them and I'm certainly not nutty enough to try for a carded collection. I do think they are kind of crappy, as far as pack ins go, but no worse than previous efforts. I've never chased the pack ins so why start now?
-
I keep finding figures with the holograms ripped out of them in stores.
Which would constitute a bit of backfiring if you ask me.
Pack-ins resulting in increased incidents of theft...
Brilliant.
-
I'm not going to go crazy to find them, but I guess they're an alright pack in. Like Brent mentioned, nothing spectacular, but a little something extra I guess. I'd like to get all the OT-based ones (or maybe all of them), but I'm not going to buy extras of figures to do it. I completed the Carkoon wave today and these are the holos I've gotten so far:
Palpatine/Darth Sidious
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Stormtrooper
Rebel Fleet Trooper
Luke Skywalker
So far, I think the only other ones I have seen are Boba Fett and Queen Amidala.
-
Here's my current Holo tally after picking up my carded, loose, and extras of the first wave:
Emperor Palpatine x2
Darth Maul x2
Queen Amidala
Darth Vader x2
Yoda x2
Count Dooku x1
Boba Fett x2
Han Solo
Rebel Trooper x2
Obi-Wan Kenobi x2
Luke Skywalker x2
Stormtrooper x2
Just missing the Amidala and Han at this point. I'm definitely going to put together a complete loose set, and since I usually buy a couple extras of each OT figure, that shouldn't be a problem mixing and matching to make that work. Might have to make a few extra returns here and there, but no biggie.
The more interesting question is what do I plan to do with the carded ones...? I guess I'm going to make sure that my carded Carkoon wave all have different holos, so that I can at least have half of them carded. Then I can knock off the second six on cards when the next wave hits. No way in hell am I going to collect all the possible figure/holo combinations though. That's insane.
So which Holos is everyone else still trying to track down at this point? BTW, Jim set up a Holo minis trading thread (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=10574.0), if anyone's interested in swapping these things (presumably loose)...
-

I was worried about that happening. But I don't really care about the holo figures anyway, so I guess it doesn't really matter for me. :-\
-
I totally forgot to even look at the holos when I picked up some of the Hoth wave since I was in a hurry, but I lucked out that I didn't get any duplicates of ones I already have. I'm just missing Boba Fett and Yoda at this point, and the only double I think I have is Vader.

Emperor Palpatine x1
Darth Maul x3
Queen Amidala x1
Darth Vader x5
Yoda x2
Count Dooku x1
Boba Fett x0
Han Solo x0
Rebel Trooper x0

Here is my current tally, lots and lots of Vaders ::)
-
Here is mine... :-[
Emperor Palpatine x0
Darth Maul x0
Queen Amidala x2
Darth Vader x0
Yoda x0
Count Dooku x4
Boba Fett x1
Han Solo x1
Rebel Trooper x1
Obi-Wan Kenobi x0
Luke Skywalker x0
Stormtrooper x0
Lots and lots of Dooku. I've still got five of the hoth wave figures to open when I find them so maybe I can balance things out a bit... :-\
-
Mine are still carded, but I have:
Emperor Palpatine x 1
Darth Vader x 2
Darth Maul x 0
Stormtrooper x 2
Boba Fett x 1
Count Dooku x 0
Queen Amidala x 0
Han Solo x 1
Luke Skywalker x 1
Rebel fleet trooper x 1
Obi Wan Kenobi x 1
Yoda x 1
I still have 4 figures from the hoth wave to find, so hopefully I can find the 3 I need.
-
Ugh, I officially hate these. Like everyone else, I've started looking to see which holos come with which figure. This is very time consuming, since I also look for good paint jobs, no bent accessories, etc.
After today, I have 1 Stormtrooper, 1 Rebel Fleet Trooper (he sucks ;)), 1 Yoda, and 1 Boba Fett. I've seen all but Amidala so far.
-
I've seen all but Amidala so far.
That's the only one I've really wanted. I guess she reminds me of her daughter's holo all those years later, in Luke's garage. Here's what I've ended up with:
Amidala
Yoda
Han
Obi-Wan x2
Maul
Dooku
Sidious
If anyone has an extra Vader, I'll trade an Obi-Wan for the hell of it.
-
I've seen this idea floating around the 'net, and I might just have to try it... a Mini-Holo Chess set?
Pawns = RFTs and Stormtroopers
Rook = Han and Fett
Knight = Luke and Maul
Bishop = Amidala and Dooku
Queen = Ben and Vader
King = Yoda and Palpatine
Add a bit of spray paint to color them and volia! Might give me something to do with all the extras I'm expecting by the end of the year... :P
-
I've got extras of Vader, Yoda, and Dooku if anyone needs one of these.

Hmmm... I like it. Paint the Baddies in red and you've got the classic red vs blue / bad vs good setup. ;)
-
Anyone think about using these as a chess set? Think about it, stormtroopers and Rebel fleet troopers, good pawns.
-

Really? I had not heard that one yet... ;)

I've been doing a little writing on the first wave recently and the holo's really have me thinking... Imagine what costs went into producing ALL these little figures. Each one requiring a mold... That's a hefty cost. Same applies but to a smaller degree, for the stands.
I don't know what people think of these holo's... For me, I really could care less about them. If they were more neutral in nature, and thus maybe more useful as an accessory to the figure (neutral Vader for Veers, etc.) then maybe I'd be more into these but for me they're just kind of lame and costly. These really could either be partly to blame for the price increases or partly to blame for seemingly quality/cost decreases to the figures themselves... That worries me a little since I really think figures shouldn't need stands in the first place, and the holo's are just so disinteresting to me.
BTW holographic mini-fleet trooper sucks.
But yeah, I just don't know what to make of these... They're costing something, and I'd really have sooner seen that put into the action figure. If these things are why Han doesn't have poseable knees... Well that sucks balls, to put it bluntly.
-
Now that I've been opening the hoth wave, I hate these things. I love the cardback art for Veers and the AT-At driver, and they have a big old hole in them because of these lame-blue-saggy-sabered sith that are sitting in a junk drawer.
-
Just for the record, out of all the newly scuplted hero characters released to this point, I've gotten one Rebel Trooper and 5 Yodas. :P
-
I think so far, after what I have bought this year, I'm missing the Yoda. A couple of duplicates, but not too bad overall.
-
no matter what figure i get, my hologram seems to be a Yoda, Maul, or Stormtrooper.
-
no matter what figure i get, my hologram seems to be a Yoda, Maul, or Stormtrooper.
If you seem to always get a Stormie, howzabout donating some the the Holo Imperial Arrmy? ;)
-
I totally lucked out yesterday when I received my case of figures from New Force Comics. My Hoth Darth Vader had a Vader holo - I never thought I'd care which holo figure I got, but having a matching figure and holo kinda seems cool. (I guess I'm a sucker for Hasbro's marketing ::))
-
I never thought I'd care which holo figure I got, but having a matching figure and holo kinda seems cool.
Yeah, I've found myself preferring those matches too. Makes it easier to try to find the "best match".
Here are some of the "cool" combos I have. I tried to find the "coolest" mini-holo for each figure (which I realize is uber-nerdy :-[):
Carkoon Wave:
Han w/Han Holo
Chewie w/Han Holo
Fett w/Fett Holo
Hoth Wave:
R2 w/Luke Holo
Veers w/Vader Holo
"Standing" Vader w/Emperor Holo
"Saber Drawn" Vader w/Vader Holo
Yeah, I have some duds that make no sense (Derlin w/Amidala Holo), but I try for a cool combo when I can...
-
I fianlly completed my set today, I got my first Fett.
BTW holographic mini-fleet trooper sucks.
:P
I kinda like these but I hope these 12 are it. And after the Coruscant waves they get rid of these in favor of more accesorries or lower costs. As much as I like my little set I don't want a whole army of little Darth Maul, Han Solo, and Emperor Palpatine minis. ::)
-
I find myself clearly leaning toward the dark side- Everything I have bought to open has been an imperial, with the exception of the Hoth gonk droid. So I have 9 imperials and a Han.
-
I wish they were in more relaxed poses.
I hate having Veers looking at a hologram vader swinging around a lightsaber...
-
I agree, more relaxed poses, how many times do we really see characters in fighting poses while in holographic form?

What about when you see the holo of Obi-Wan fighting a Droideka in AOTC?
-
Does someone have a list and/or picture of all of the two inch holo pack in figures?
-
(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/10-05/06holos.jpg)
The hologram figures are randomly-assigned there are 12 in all:
Emperor Palpatine
Darth Maul
Queen Amidala
Darth Vader
Yoda
Count Dooku
Boba Fett
Han Solo
Rebel Trooper
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Luke Skywalker
Stormtrooper
The six "good guy" holos are only available with "good guy" figures and the six "bad guy" holos are only available with the "bad guy" figures.
-
Im sure this forum much like ones at rebelscum & GH have this info but there are 12:
They are all random, with the affiliation of the figure and one figure from each movie
Dark Side:
Maul (ep 1)
Sidious (ep 3)
Dooku (ep 2)
Vader (ep 5)
Stormtrooper (ep 4)
Fett (ep 6)
Light side:
Obi Wan (2)
Han Solo (5)
Yoda (3)
Amedala (1)
Skywalker (6)
Rebel Trooper (4)
-
Cool. Thanks guys. All I need is Maul, Obiwan and Rebel trooper.

I was just opening a crapload of Saga figures and now I'm looking at this 50 count deep pile of hologram figures, that I could really care less about. I started thinking about what a useless, and probably costly, accessory this is, especially if you consider that Hasbro probably had to make all new molds for each of these translucent blue pieces of crap. They could have at least made useful holos such as a small emperor to sit in Cody's hand, or a neutral Vader for Veers to take orders from.
Then again, having a pile of useless gimmicks is really nothing new when I look at my other huge pile of worthless ****, that some of you know as "Jedi Master Points."
(I'm not complaining much about these figures though, most are great like the new Cody, Utapau grunt, AT-AT driver, Veers, Sun Fac etc.)
-
Ithorian, your post got me thinking about this again:
I've seen this idea floating around the 'net, and I might just have to try it... a Mini-Holo Chess set?
Pawns = RFTs and Stormtroopers
Rook = Han and Fett
Knight = Luke and Maul
Bishop = Amidala and Dooku
Queen = Ben and Vader
King = Yoda and Palpatine
Add a bit of spray paint to color them and volia! Might give me something to do with all the extras I'm expecting by the end of the year... :P
I think I'll plan on Amidala being the Queen and Ben being the Bishop.
PM on its way. :)
-
I put Fett as the knight since he has a back pack with maul as the rook. I have a complete imperial side now.
As for the rebels, I still don't have an Amadala and aside from one of each of the others, I keep getting Yoda.

I agree, I think the holograms really are a senseless pack-in. If they are going to be doing pack-ins, I wish they would be some sort of usefull accessory or a floor piece to interconnet to make a nice floor section for a diorama. Or even maybe some random ponchos/weapons - just something useful.
I've given my wife's classroom kids about 50-60 holograms so far.
:P
-
I'd say I agree with that too.
If they're going to pack-in holographic miniature figures, they need to act as an accessory, not just another sub-sub-sub-line of crap. Vader should be posed, hands on his hips, and neutral. Perfect for Veers...
Obi-Wan should be posed neutral for talking to the council, etc...
I want a complete set of these, as I like to have one full set of all pack-ins, but these things are pretty dumb to me personally. Tack onto them the fact that the figures are plastic, cost something to tool up and produce... To me they're an expense above and beyond Commtech chips (The chips used one design, thus fewer molds), they certainly don't cost what Freezeframse, Force Files, or other little gimmicks cost in the past then of course. Give me less crud like htis, and instead put knee joints on figures that could use it to make them better toys...
BTW, I still haven't seen Yoda... Anyone got one they wanna get rid of? :) I want to be done with these silly little things.
-
I actually have a bunch I don't need, but Yoda isn't one of them. Kinda ironic since most actual Yoda figures I see come with a Yoda holo.
-
Since I've bought mainly baddies so far I only have 1 Yoda and 1 RFT, but I've got about 5 of every baddy as well as the other good guys. I'm pretty sick of these things, and I don't like the ugly hole they leave on the card. More accessories, lower price, or some diorama floor pieces would be a much better alternative.

With the thought of that happening, I think I may have just felt some movement.

Got a cool error this morning. A orange utapau clone with boba mini holo packaged backwards in the tray!! ;D

He looks uncomfortable. I would open it and let him breath. ;D
-
Boba boba boba, the stormtroopers told you not to jump face first into a good guys batch but nooo...he couldnt listen, boba had to be the center of attention! :P
Thats a cool error though! :)
-
Finally got a Ut clone to open with a stormtrooper, finishing off the darkside chess set pieces. Wahooo? ::)
It's easy grabbing AT-AT drivers, Sun Facs, and clones. Getting those good guys is going to be tough. I hope Momaw and Hem are alliance types.
Would somebody please tell me why I am doing this? ???
-
You ate too many paint chips as a kid :P
What other good holos do you need I have a few extra I give ya at the next meeting of the MN Defenders
-
mmmmmmm paint chips.... all flaky flavored....
I'll take that reasoning, cheaper than therapy.

F#%$ YOU HASBRO!

-
Now it will be easier to make that chess set. :P
-
I don't see what the big deal is about these. ???
:P
-
Yes, why is this upsetting?
Because the completists will "have" to get all of the same holo-figures again, just because they're a different color?
-
Has anyone had any trouble so far with people stealing the mini holos from carded figures in the store? Initially I was sure it would be a big issue, but four months into the line I don't recall any instances of that. Or is it simply that "Minnesota nice" thing, and my experience is atypical?
-
Nah, not just MN-nice, I think most people just don't give a crap about them. The carded types do, looking for specific pairings but they won't remove them anyway so it hasn't been an issue.
-
At first I was like, 'red holos? Have you lost all shame Hasbro?' and then I thought, for those doing the chess piece thing, it might actually be neat to have one red side and one blue side. I'm not collecting them, so like UGH it doesn't matter.

I'm planning on a chess set, so this will actually be helpful.

He he he- I may have eaten paint chips, but you my friend have Tourettes syndrome-
I like the idea of the two colors for the chess set, but I have my darkside set completed in the wrong color.
I wonder if the refresh figures from earlier waves will come with the red ones as well. I would guess so, but this just goes to show you never know what they are going to do.
-
I've always liked the chess piece idea...but, perhaps the different colors are for a game that Hasbro will be releasing later this year? perhaps 2 more colors are due by the end of the year(for a 4 player game)?. I still think Hasbro will introduce additional figs for the rest of 2006 at the CC. Maybe then they'll mention something about the different color pieces and why.
Hmmm.. another good Q for me to ask this year at CC. " hey, I was wondering ..are the different color Holo pieces a ploy to by you(Hasbro) to drain more money out of us completist collectors or was there some other point to that insanity?" Yes,.... I think I'll ask that verbatim.

Well..... at least I can make a red chess set.
-
I dont see myself going crazy to make another set.
-
This might be a stipid question, but how many different holos are there? And which characters are there? Don't really know what I would use them for if I had them all, but just wondering. Thanks
