Las Vegas also has the largest convention center in North America. You need either a bicycle or a Segway to get around the place.
I spoke with one fo the actors who will be signing at C3, and he told me that Indy was definitely a strong possiblity. He also mentioned Las Vegas was in the running, too.
The only question is whether I should bring along the Mrs. again. I'm thinking not this time, but we'll see what she has to say about that...
Well according to many in Indy. The various hotels downtwon for this weekend of C3 are starting to fill up. I am not sure if this confirms C3 in Indy or not maybe there is another big event.
Cow brain sandwiches still on the menu (http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/01/16/brain.sandwich.ap/index.html)
I'm going to stay at the Westin, Marriot or Hyatt. Stayed at the Hyatt last time, great place.
QuoteI'm going to stay at the Westin, Marriot or Hyatt. Stayed at the Hyatt last time, great place.
I stayed at the Marriott, but as of yet I have been unable to reserve a room there or at the place next door. Apparently they can't book that far ahead of time. I have no idea why. I have money. I know the dates. Why is it more difficult than that? :)
So the price tag is about 3000-5000 dollars,so (if you're unemployed or not legally old enough to work)start saving now!!!
Can't really tell you who I am right now...
Can't really tell you who I am right now...
I will give you a little bit of info I have known for a few weeks now...
Mary Franklin has rejoined LFL and will head up C3.
Mary last day with Paizo was Friday Jan. 16th.
Mary will still do some of Bantha Tracks but it is not known how much.
Well, I'm intrigued. Let us know what you can, when you can. Please.
glad you overestimated, I still have a shot. Especially if I end up with enough frequent flyer miles on Northwest by then.
The numbers are becoming much more pleasing. Have to check that NWA frequent flyer plan. find a roommate, survive of Retched Ron's and voila, sub $1K budget.
hmmm...
Good, i have saved hella money, since Celebration 2 also, which a total of $1500 is actually saved for me right now, and i figure to save about 500-700 more so, i will be pretty good, so are we gonna do something for Celebration 3, all us Jedi Defenders?
I can't wait to hear when the date will be so that I can see if I can save up enough money and if I have the time to go (if I have a new job). I'm hoping to buy some more stuff that was offer at C2 but don't know what I want to buy since I have no room.

Yeah, me too. I mean, this will more than likely be the last hurrah for Star Wars (as far as these things go) so I want to have a GREAT time...and I'm saving a little each month for that. Have been since May 02. :)
Also, fans in Stormtrooper armor do NOT qualify as proper security or event management.
Also:Indy has a 12% sales tax.
Uh-oh. Better not let Josh hear you saying that Jared, or you may get surprised with some mistreatment and abuse by the Imperial Forces next year!
The only good thing that I saw for the 501st people was they got to go shop in the fan club store before the general public but other then this it wouldn't seem worth the hussle to me of missing the events which I wasn't over seeing.QuoteUh-oh. Too late. ;D
No worries though. I had the exact same thought. I didn't have my armor at C2 (I was unable to procure any before then)....but I got a little pissed off when some Sandtrooper would tell me one thing, and then the TK at the top of the stairs had another message about where I could and couldn't have access to stand in line.
While I'll be doing the big photo in costume, and probably walking around the con in armor....I'll be God Damned if I'm going to pay 1000 bucks to travel to Indianapolis with my girlfriend, several hundred more for a hotel room....and then try to earn my 75 dollar 3 day badge by working 8 hour shifts of "security" all 4 days at a convention I've been waiting 3 years for.
I talked to more than one of the troops, and apparently...they had to work several shifts to earn free passes. That just made NO sense to me. I'd be happy to help out for a few hours as a novelty if it sounds fun, but I'm not traveling all the way to Indy just to work. I've been waiting for this for TOO long. ;D

Anyone in for a lightsaber tournament of sorts? You know with those cheap ones you can get from wal-mart?
Means I'm going to beat him in a lightsaber match. :)Anyone in for a lightsaber tournament of sorts? You know with those cheap ones you can get from wal-mart?
Buddy, if I show up, you'll regret that comment.
I am quite famous for my technique. I use Darth Mauls saber, and a spare purple one.
I am quite good for some one who has no better thing to do with their spare time but to learn how to fight with a staff and a sword.

In response to the question posed by JediMac in the split thread...
Another reason for wanting proximity to the convention center is because most of the fun will be happening there and should I need to get back to the hotle for any reason.
But dosen't the rate go up if you have a lot of people?
Any takers? I don't stink ;) I got good taste in beer and cigars ;D
Well for me. I will be driving to Indy. If I remember right that last time I went there it took me about 8 hours. I am in Green Bay so I think I took 41 or 43 down. I would have to look at the map to be certain. I do remember it felt like it took forever to get there. I was going to the Indy 500 that trip. Now that was a fun experiance.
We've got two Celebration 3 threads in our new Convention Forum here, so I'm just gonna merge 'em up!Matt, I think it still kind of early to make reservations since I heard the hotels will only allow youso many months in advance.
So has anyone actually made their hotel reservations yet?
Sorry buddy, I did not know we had a conventions section!
I guess this thread should be locked! :-X
Must have forgot OK! :o
Not that big of a deal! ::)
Who do you think is an absolute loser/dork/jackass that you would adamantly refuse to room with?
Having organized conventions (much, much smaller scale) than this, room blocks set aside for the conference are often NOT cheaper than the regular/AAA/etc rates. Figure out where you want to stay then call them/go online for room rates. You might be surprised.
Kevin. 3:00 ;D
The latest issue of Insider (# 76) says that one of the benefits of the new Hyperspace/Insider/Fan Club membership is "Early Entrance into C3". I seem to recall standing in the "Fan Club line" last time around, and getting in no earlier than the folks in the giant line on the other side of the show. Just two HUGE lines, both slowly entering the convention. As far as the early entrance thing the last time I think it was handled in a rediclous manner. From reading the Insider back then it made it seem like you would get in early everyday but they only allowed us in early on the first day, a hour early I think. The other days they wouldn't allow us in early at all but thanks to the compling that was going on in the line they opened the fan club side first then the other doors after a few minutes. I will probally sign up on for the "Un"Fan Club just for maybe getting in early.
Anyone have better luck than that, or do you think it was all a wash? How early are you folks going to be lining up for the first day? I think we only got there a couple hours early the first day last year, and we paid the price with a monster wait in that atrocious line... :-\
& I haven't been to the US since 86.
...last time I had heard Brent was still on the fence...so am I
Just watch out for Brent's bad gas though...
I'll probably drive there, though I still have to get tickets for the con and a hotel room for the four days.
If there are any fans in Iowa want to go, I've got a Hyundai with three open seats. You'll pay for 1/4 or whatever depending on how many people go.
Or if we get enough, we could charter a bus.
Please not sws.com...I have read all of your misdealings with that dreadful store, and I am fearful of any transactions with them. For C2 you could order the tickets from the fan club, which is now SWS. Hopefully they will end up fixing they shipping department and shop before they start selling the tickets.
So afraid I may just pay 99.99 for a RotS shirt. :-\
Kevin
You mean I gotta join the friggin' fan club to get C3 passes? What a load of horse dung that is! >:(
Kevin
How mature ::)
:P
cheese filled sausages...
I told her about Colman and his technicolor sweater and she was immediately "out" on participation.
:)
I wonder if GenCon's website preparedness is at all indicative of how prepared they'll actually be at C3... Definitely not off to a good start so far. :-\
Beth, is that the regular Marriott, or the Courtyard one? As for me/us, not even sure yet. I'm just gonna hop in there (some day) and see what happens! But it will be one that's either connected, or within .3 (three tenths) miles.
Ugh, looks like I'll be waiting till tommorow or tonight then, huh?
Hi all.
Just letting you know that the people who need to know about the problem do know about the problem. Posting reports about the problem on this or any other site is not going to help. It is an issue with the GenCon site, not starwars.com. Appears there was much more traffic than expected.

Still can't get through AT ALL. Decent hotel rooms will definitely be gone by the time that I do, I'm sure. >:(
Haven't heard of anyone here who's taking their wives/husbands/partners/etc. to C3.
For those who have gotten in what are the prices like because I may just use orbitz since that site works.

There are lots of people successfully purchasing badges. Once they complete their transaction it frees up space and allows another person to get on. The server is at max capacity. Just be patient and you will eventually get your turn. This is a testament to the excitement and legacy of the Star Wars brand and its many loyal fans!

JD.com Celebration 3 Party
Date: Sometime during C3, TBD
Mmmm, beer.
I'm sure I'll have a few drinks with y'all...
Oh, I'll be ordering my passes relativley soon. I already have a room reserved, and I already posted the rate.
Now we talk car rentals...
Any good online car rental sites you guys know about?
Vator I'll hook you up to a good rate through Orbitz.
I'll bring a portable DVD player, and Screen my Episode of Highschool Stories, just for you guys. Maybe I can talk to GenCon about getting an autograph booth. :P
Kevin
Hey, whay hotels are you guys staying at?
I want to get a room close to the JD crew before it's too late.
JediMac is in charge of rooming arrangements, he'll pipe in shortly.
Oh and it's a motley crew at that. There's what, 8 of us in a room :o *shudder* Think about one bathroom after a night of beer and hot wings ;)
I am actively looking for someone that is only marginally keen on the C3 event itself. Y'know, someone that will be interested in hanging out in the bar, say around lunch time ;D
I am especially looking forward to mocking Colman's fat ass in person.
Also, the collector panels look pretty good so far. I'm always interested in those behind-the-scenes, toys that could have been type talks. Also looking forward to some of the other multi-media type presentations.

So, sweaterboy, who's in our room, where are we staying and what's it costing?
For those in our room, how are you getting there, when do you arrive and do you snore?
I have some questions for those attending CIII, any info would be appreciated.
Are there any CIII hotel blocks left, this late in the game?
What is the average price of rooms in or around the convention area?

Day late here, but I finally plugged in my hotel code to see what's left for ya' Ricardo, and here's the slim pickin's through the C3 site:
Crowne Plaza at Union Station - $138/night, 0.20 miles away (best bet)
Adam's Mark Indianapolis Airport - $109/night, 8.0 miles away
Quality Inn & Suites at the Airport - $74/night, 8.0 miles away
THAT'S IT.
But that's not to say there aren't any other hotel rooms available in the area. But they just aren't available through the C3 site. So you may have a little better luck just calling random hotels near the convention center to see what you can find, or use one of those fancy travel websites to do the checking. Anyway, good luck! Hope to see you out there!
Brent, I'll try to dig up my old hotel e-mail for some exact prices, and I'll PM it to you and the fellas...
Then I'd say you're just not excited enough.oh, I'm plenty excited. :D
::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
I think we're all immature idiots here Shannon. Some older than others though... ;)so you are saying I'm a older immature idiot and there is no escaping it? don't make me go PMS on you Matt... ;)
Did you guys all get my PMs last night? I used the "multiple recipients" feature for the first time ever, so hopefully the PMs still made it through... LMK!
I prefer to revert to as young and idiotic as I can pull off in most of my posting. I'm even contemplating overuse of all punctuation keys as well as randomly locking and editing threads wherever I can now.don't forget creating threads in the wrong topics... after all, you can do it, because you are a Mod God.... (wow, I think Jesse actually got my point after all).
You can just call me Jesse(e) then.
All is forgiven Matt, but I better hold a high rank of second fav girl on the net... ;)

Also, regarding the badges (above), since there's two images for each, do you think the Animated Clone Wars picture is just gonna be on the back/flip side of the other picture? I hope it's not one or the other...

**Cough**
Beuller?
A drinking contest on who can drink the most? geez, I'll lose that one, I was tipsy after two drinks at the last FanForce meeting. I'm just hoping I can get my drinks bought for me ;D calling all single guys... hehehe... just kidding, well, maybe not...
You're tied with Sharon (Darthshader) on that one for now! Maybe we'll have a drinking contest between the two of you at C3 to break the tie, and the winner can go head to head with Beth for the title! ;)
But honestly, you're all my favorites! :-*
Karen (Karma) and Carrie (Couruscant Courtesan) are cool ladies too, but they're rarely around anymore... :-\
So what hotel are you staying in Shannon, and who are you roomin' with? You staying the whole 4 days?
I like that too Matt, getting all 4 at the same time will give us moredrinkinglooking around time.
...but he likes his W & W ;) ).
I know this is a crazy question, But i will be going to c3 it's my first. I've been reading about the events that take place but was wondering is it like a regular toy shop with a lot of dealer selling star wars stuff, or just the c3 stuff.
Well, I'm glad I looked today. I really am. I pulled my file so my grandma can arange to get the days off to come to Indie to the conto see why I like Star Wars so much, and my reservations are at Indiana PENNSYLVANIA!!! I know somthing is messed up there. Tommorow were gonna fix it and make a call and see if my reservations can be moved to the Holiday Inn at Indie.
Ugh...
Kevin
With brian's toy type prices i guess it want be the best place to pick up a couple of the vintage power of the force line figures.
Daniel's a wuss.
Where you guys staying?
Where you guys staying?
Q: I ordered my badge but haven't receive it yet. When will I get it?
If you selected to have your badge shipped to you, your badge should be sent in late March.
Official Star Wars Fan Club members who purchase 4-day badges for Celebration III during the pre-registration period online will receive 4 Friends & Family passes that they can use to share some member benefits with non-members.
Benefits include:
1) entrance to the Convention Center during the "fan club only" hour before the center opens to the rest of the public. Once inside the center members can enter anything that is open during the special hour with no additional identification
2) Entrance into the Fan Club Lounge
3) One access to other Fan Club benefits if any are announced.
So, those of us who ARE in the Fan Club can try to help some of those who are NOT in the Fan Club with the passes.
Since I'm a member of HyperSpace (a Christmas present from family), I should be getting the 4 passes which I will gladly donate to the JD.com "Help a Brother Out" foundation to help some poor beer-swilling Canadian get in early or something...
Yep, I can do that as well, assuming they actually send me the buddy passes that is, and don't screw it up somehow...

Jeff
Anyone interested in having breakfast with Wicket?
Will Call is usually a booth or two next to the standard tickets sales. It basically means you have your tickets already paid for/reserved for you and you just have to sign for them usually.
The line is supposed to move faster as you don't have to go thru the "how much is it?", "Do you take Amex?/Discover?", or any sort of other questions that the people in the new ticket sales lines ask.
An an unrelated note, as annoying as Anthony Daniels can often be, I'm rather disappointed that he won't be MC'ing the events. He's really rather funny sometimes, and he's obviously a lot more "connected" and knowledgeable when it comes to the Star Wars Saga than his replacement is...
Captain Typho.
Ugh. :-\

You bet your sweet ass...
But it's the last Star Wars Celebration (most likely) and I want to go!!! Someone tell me it will be ok please! :)
Matt, did that come with the 4 friends and family pass thingy?
Matt, did your passes show up via FedEx, UPS or USPS?

Good thinking Jeff. I was starting to get a little bummed that a few of our pals (and roommates) might get stuck in an entirely seperate line. It's gonna be tough enough spending a couple hours in line to get in, so the more, the merrier!
I'm unsure what these Friends and Family Passes are. Please elaborate. :)

Finally (ahem) registered and booked my flight this afternoon. Looks like there's no backing out now. ;)
I may be seeing you on that flight. If it's NWA flight 498, leaving at 10:14am and arriving at 11:47am in Indy.
Ironic that this is in the Pet Peeves thread, eh?
;D
Finally (ahem) registered and booked my flight this afternoon. Looks like there's no backing out now. ;)
Better be early enough to make it to Hooters with everyone
Jesse, are you flying NorthWest out of Regina?
As for inflight beverages, well, they have them, but the flight from Minneapolis to Indiana is actually not much more than an hour long from Gate to Gate.
Are you guys renting a car and dropping me off downtown? :P And then picking me up again so we can go tour the Indianapolis Speedway ;)
****, there's somthing I hadn't considered this whole damned time. Parking! I assume like most venues they will have special lot's with like "$10.00 Parking All Day!" type deals, or what?
As for the Hooters map, I'll just follow the leaders...I assume we are allstumblingwalking, correct??
Remember to ask for Canadian Whiskey, Jesse. Otherwise you're likely to be drinking bourbon (something else I ended up drinking in West Lafayette - along with tequila and jaegermeister :-X)

I wasn't in a position to say no. When starving graduate students buy you booze, it's offensive to decline.
My pass is officialy ordered, so you folks are stuck with me. ;D

This will indeed be a great time to be a fan!
Kevin
On Saturday. ;)
Kevin
Yeah, what is the deal w/ Hooters? Is this actually some "planned" JD thing? plans? who-da-thunk...
I'm laying off the Jaeger though. Man, that ****'s gotten me into some trouble back in the day! :-X
No you won't, I don't want California barf-breath in the same room with me.
As for Colman, same room, that's it. Not sure how well his bulk moves and if I end up sleeping between him and the bathroom, well...

I've slept in a tub a couple times before, so that's certainly do-able.
Maybe I made a poor choice for roommates? :-\
Jeff
My pass came today... No F'n Fanclub Lanyard though. So, now I gotta straighten that out. At least I have my pass just to get in though, that was the important part.
It was just ONE pass right? They didn't give you 4 separate passes for all 4 days I hope, cuz I only got one with "4-day pass" on it. Can ya tell this'll be a first, truly large convention for me? ::)
I've slept in a tub a couple times before, so that's certainly do-able.
I fell asleep in a bathtub once. I nearly drowned too. I woke up with my head under the water coughing and sputtering.
Good luck with that. :P
Kevin
That's exactly what I got too Beth... those 4 ticket things for Friends & Family, which I don't have any going with me.
Okay, well, I'll see you all at Hooters on Weds... and what about the pool thing? That never did get a date/time stamped on it... anyone still want to do the bowling/pool?
Ok, aside from venders at the convention, does anyone know if stores put out alot of Star Wars product while the convention was in Indy last time? I specificly held out on buying a whole boatload of stuff, so I could do it in Indy.
Was I wrong to do so?
Hooters every night? ;D
I need to be in at least 1 jedidefender hooters gathering photo.
Kevin

You can't get into Hooters, can you Kevin? If so, then that's a problem, 'cause that's specifically why were going to be hanging out there the whole time... :P

My grandmother is not coming with. Just P'Dubbs.
Are you two still working on arranging your date by the flagpole, or whatever it was, at C3? If so, please hammer that out publicly in the regular C3 thread, so the rest of us will know when and where to go to watch the JD Smack Down too. Thanks!
Kev, I'll do my best to get you a thoroughly inebbriated Brent. Then, maybe we could all slap him around a bit, when you're through with him!
Something tells me that buying a video camera for this event in Indy would be a very wise investment...
My passes finally came in the mail yesterday, and they screwed up and didn't send me a fan club lanyard. They even went so far as to take my invoice (where Fan Club - Yes) was printed, cross out the Yes, and handwrite a 'No' over it.
Pissed! Emails have been sent...
I ordered mine last night and have to pick it up at "Will Call". I am a bit nervous. They better have them there. They finally gave me my Hyperspace access code 2 months later after 2 phone calls and 3 emails. Sigh.
So what's the list for JDers going to C3? I guess I'll see you guys Friday night.
Add my name to the list of nervous guys/gals about picking up my pass at Will Call. I think that bringing every piece of paperwork showing that I paid for my pass will be necessary, just in case. It would kill me to get that far and suddenly have to spend all day just trying to get in. :(
Matt has my cell and can call to harass me if I don't show for some reason. ;D
I may even come knocking on your hotel room door at 4am. I've been known to do stuff like that. From time to time.
Hey! That type of talk is forbidden here at JD, so you best watch it there Josh! You know damned well that, aside from Llamas, Hooters is the unofficial JD mascot here...
I'm going to pretend I never heard that.
But feel free to bring your fellow Seattle-lites along. The more the merrier. Or, the more, the more people to carry the drunk Canadians back to their hotels
Not sure if we're going to make it for the Wednesday festivities. Since I'm driving, I'm thinking of just heading up early Thursday morning.
Bastards still haven't emailed me back about my fan club lanyard "mix-up", so I guess it won't be magically showing up in the mail in the next week.
Hmm... We might. Depends on what folks come up with on Wednesday night. Looks like Tom offered to pass his along to me, so with Jeff's, Brent's and Jared's (I think), we might be able to cover you guys.
But we'll see you there anyway Josh. Thanks for being a trooper (no pun intended) for all our behalves...
I must confess that I don't drink beer.
Interesting. Has that always been the case, or something you just decided later in life you didn't dig so much, or just had a bad experience with?
Imagine being someone who hates coffee. People who swear by it can give you everything from AM/PM to Starbucks, to gourmet beans hand picked by Juan Valdez himself....but you're still going to hate it if you hate the base product.
That would be me. Don't drink coffee. Never have, never will. Not tea either. Not much for hot chocolate or any other hot drink either. Slurpees are so much better in winter.
Ok...you don't drink coffee ... but Do you drink beer?
Man, I think you need to pay a little better attention around here, Josh. The dude's from Canada, for Chrissakes!
Does a bear **** in the woods?
Hey, not like ALL of us here at JD LOVE the Hooter's chicks....
not into women...
but we all sacrifice....
hehehe...
You can request all you want, Shannon. I'll be wearing the usual though.a fluffy pink sweater? But, I was going to wear pink!! I guess I'll let you wear your sweater, since it's "tradition" or whatnot... I do have this really pretty set of pink chandelier earrings you can borrow though- they aren't too big to overwhelm, and they've got pink stones and pink pearls on them... you'll love them!

Where's the love?
>:(
Brent's actually gonna be free-ballin' it though, so that may, or may not, be of interest to some folks here... :-\
BTW, GH is trying to meet at 9 on Wednesday at an Irish Pub after Hooters, so maybe we can move the party there after dinner?
Only one week to go... anyone else getting excited? I've already started throwing a few things together so I remember to bring them along to C3!

I don't think this is just a "dinner" gathering at Hooters, Shannon. Like we mentioned a few times earlier, I'm anticipating the Hooters hoopla to go well into the night! ;)
Our "Friends & Family" passes were designed with Star Wars Fan Club members who have families in mind. It's a definite improvement over the system for Celebration II, that required Fan Club members to buy a membership for each person in their family in order to let them enjoy Fan Club benefits.
Here's how the "Friends & Family" passes work:
Each member of the Fan Club who buys a 4-day badge for Celebration III will receive 4 passes. The passes will be shipped with the badge in the spring of 2005, close to the start of the event.
Each pass can be used once, and will be collected at time of use.
The passes will not be day-specific, so can be used on any day, at any time.
The passes are NOT admission badges for Celebration III, but benefit passes only. Each person who attends Celebration III will need their own admission badge.
Children under 6 are admitted free with their parents, and won't need to use Friends & Family passes.
The passes can be used for 1) entrance to the Convention Center during the "fan club only" hour before the center opens to the rest of the public. Once inside the center members can enter anything that is open during the special hour with no additional identification; or 2) Entrance into the Fan Club Lounge; or 3) One access to other Fan Club benefits if any are announced.
For example, if you are a Fan Club member and have a partner or child who is not, you may choose to get them in for the bonus hour each of the four days of the show. By turning in one pass each day they would not have extra passes to use for other benefits like admittance to the Fan Club Lounge.
To have full Fan Club benefits at all times during Celebration III, individuals will need to have their own memberships. We understand this is not a perfect solution, but it is an improvement that we hope our members will take advantage of and enjoy.
We understand that members don't need multiple Fan Club subscriptions in their homes, but it's a tough situation. We also don't feel it's fair to ask our volunteers and security folks to make judgment calls on whether pairs and groups of people are really families.
All of a sudden the SDCC comments are starting to become a little frightening too. Maybe Jamie was the innocent party :o
I hope we're not planning on staying at Hooters throughout the night. I'd be up for a bit of a crawl after a round or two.
I agree with Jared! Drinking at Hooters is well and fine, but I want to get out and do some exploring too.
BTW, a question -- I registered for my 4-day pass after the badges had shipped, so I have to go to Will-Call. I should still get F&F passes even though I'm doing WC, right?
Me and my wife plan on meeting everyone at the Hooters Wednesday night.

She usually has no problem fitting in, but I think she's a little nervous that Hooters will be one big penis party and she'll feel a tad out of place. :)
More of a small penis party, considering Colman is leading the charge, but I suppose that's just a detail (albeit a small one).
Hey Matt Coleman and your roomies-
I have started baking cookies tonight, but now I'm wondering if any of you have any special "diet" requirements- e.g. vegetarian, vegan, peanut allergies, etc.
Let me know... and Chris told me there are four of you to split the bounty...

Yeah, they are chocolate chips, just want to be sure no one is vegan or anything... and as I told DSJ, while I love you guys, I at least should get a drink in return for all this work ;)Hey Matt Coleman and your roomies-

Nothing funky allergy wise for me. Bring it on! Love me some chocolate chips, but whatever, it's all good...

Yeah, a BIG drink... not some little girl amaretto sour or something... But, we aren't talking about a yard stick type of thing... it doesn't take me much to get drunk... just please make sure I get back to my room... ;)Yeah, they are chocolate chips, just want to be sure no one is vegan or anything... and as I told DSJ, while I love you guys, I at least should get a drink in return for all this work ;)
A big drink. ;)
Couple of questions for the meet-up at Hooters.
What time do you guys anticipate staying there until?
Will there be any other possible organized activities?
The Hooters JD thing starts at 7, GH Claddaugh starts at 9...
"officially"
Is it even worth asking which group will be out later? You're offending us drunks Josh ;D
I can't find the directions to the hooters, can anyone help me out. Hard to believe but this is one of my wifes favorite places to eat.

Josh, you've still got my cell phone # I assume, so hit me up when you get out there and we'll work something out. I'd suggest swinging by Hooters first and toss back a couple real quick, then haul ass to your costume party thingee, then jam back to Hooters, or wherever we may be at that point (call me). Sound like a plan?!
I gotta hit both, as much as I'd like to spend the whole evening with you distinguished lushes.
... she doesn't know any of you guys, so you'd better be nice, or.... or... Matt will hit you for me!
right, Matt?

Hit on her for you? Sure. No problem, Shannon. :-*

Don't worry, despite our infatuation with these toys, there's still lots of love in our hearts for the ladies.

Is this a JD meeting or speed dating?
Does it matter?
QuoteDoes it matter?
Considering the "ratio", yes....it does. ;D
And as far as SW guys go, just don't try to impress me w/ some old trivia or whatnot that any reasonable SW fan would know... that's all I ask...
"Did you know that R2-D2 isn't really a robot in the movies? I heard there was actually a man in there."
Oh my God!!!! You are like so kidding. right?!?!?! How did he fit in there? Was it the same guy who does those sounds for the Police Academy movies??!!! That is so cool!!!! I didn't know anyone could beep like that!!! Was there someone in the Yoda suit, too??!?!?!??! He would have to be kind of tiny though, huh? You know, I heard that the guy who plays Han is dating Calista Flockhart!??! did you know that?!?!?! I can't remember his name though...."Did you know that R2-D2 isn't really a robot in the movies? Well Thanks alot! >:( :P
Sweet christ, what have I gotten myself into.... :P
It was only a joke... ;) don't get your 'lifesaver' all bent...
hehehe
Okay, second batch of brownies baked and wrapped... still have 5 dozen cookies and I am defrosting blueberries... but trying to pack right now, trying on clothes, etc- I know you guys don't do all that, so no cooking until I'm done picking out outfits which are going to be way too cool for me to wear because of the weather...
Old Spice? Polo? what, no Drakkar?
I'll have to smell it... are you wearing it?Old Spice? Polo? what, no Drakkar?
What about Xerious...? Is that still cool? :P
How much are you guys packing- like how many changes of clothes, etc?
I just don't know, I've got so much...
It's going to be chilly and rainy, but inside won't it be hot?
What do I do??

OK, for those wanting to know WHO they'll be looking for at Hooters tomorrow night (other than the waitresses), here's some pix of a few of us for your reference:
Dave/jokabofe:

And how come you're in every single one of those pictures taken at Hooters??
Brent, sent you a PM with the hotel reservation info. LMK if you got it, since your PM box is often full, I think. Requested an early check-in for you too... :-*
And don't worry about the brownies/cookies, after last night's chat, I don't think Shannon will be bringing me anything. Oh yeah, Kevin has been dubbed TBM jr., so looks like you have a sibling now :-*Yeah, I figured it out earlier... but I'll be bringing the cookies and all- I have a duffle bag full of food to split up... It's ridiculous... and I'm STILL cooking- I just started the cookies...
how dry I am......how dry I am ;)
Oh yeah, Kevin has been dubbed TBM jr., so looks like you have a sibling now :-*

Uh... 'Cause I'm totally cool like that? Duh. ::)
And yes, please do your best Cousin It impression so we can identify you throughout the evening Dave. ;)
Hello everyone. It has been awhile since I have posted on these forums. I just wanted to say that today it was a pleasure to finally meet Mr. Berry, JediMac, Holographic Elvis, Morbug (spelling), and others. Finally I can put a face to names. See you around C3.
PS. Go to Hall C and Check out my Empeor on his Thorne and 4-foot Death Star.
Have Fun and always be nice to each other.
I can't imagine what it was like out there on Saturday waiting in that line. Friday was bad enough getting soaked but it was not 35 degrees and windy. Ouch. Crazy because last weekend it was near or above 80 and sunny.
QuoteI can't imagine what it was like out there on Saturday waiting in that line. Friday was bad enough getting soaked but it was not 35 degrees and windy. Ouch. Crazy because last weekend it was near or above 80 and sunny.
Imagine being one of only four volunteers trying to control that line. That was my job. I was out there from midnight until 8am when they let you guys in, freezing my ass off....praying to God I didn't get my ass kicked when I had to move the line for the 18th time.
After 50 people begged me, I went in and argued with Gen Con at about 2am to let you guys in the damn doors before we gave 12,000 people pneumonia standing out there. They had already been trying to figure out how to do it, but they didn't have the security to cover a line that big inside....or anywhere to put it outside of the halls.
They decided people were going to the Hyatt (where it was warm) but the line quickly grew outside of that hotel....and so we had people standing in line outside over there plus people coming back to my line in front of the con every five minutes thinking they were in the Lucas line. By about 4am I was the only volunteer left on the main side of the building (everyone else had migrated to the Hyatt) but we still had 2000 people or so and it kept growing.
That night was absolute hell....and it's a miracle that we made it through it without a riot.
I was one of the biggest complainers about how terrible C2 was organized, and I'm really going to be curious to see what you guys (and others) say about C3. It felt like it was done better to me, but I think that's because I'm biased after I put in a few hours helping out. Those guys were trying as hard as they could, but without the 501st.....I don't think it would have been possible.
We outnumbered their staff by 5 to 1 it seemed almost everywhere we went. I hope someone out there (Gen Con, attendees or otherwise) will keep that in mind the next time they staff one of these things. They need more than Trooper and Jedi volunteers to run a convention of 30,000 folks. ;D
Breakfast time. TTYL
The only thing I had a problem with was the C3 store itself. That's all. I thought after the Jorg Sacul fiasco that they would have all the kinks ironed out three years later. I just assumed they would made enough C3 figures to compensate for Ebayers, the crowd, etc. I was told they only had a few people at the registers. What the hell is that about? Over 30,000 people are coming who all want at least one figure and they only brought a handful of people to man registers. LOL! Sorry, but what idiot was in charge of that outfit? Not only that but they sold out of almost all of the merchandise like shirts, etc by noon on Friday? What??? Poor managing there to say the very least
As one of those first in line (about 2-300 people) I thank you and the other voulnatters trying to do something about us being let in early. We were actually let in to the convention hall around 4 am or so, I guess to make up more room for those who were still standing outside. There was one Biker Scout in line near me who they used a few times to help out controling the lines at the Hyatt since people were walking in from the parking garage and getting in line up front. Once we were in the building we feel asleep only to be awaken by people either cussing us, the people in the building, or the voulteers and staff out, not sure which it was.
Had they had merch (and prices) prominently displayed in an area that the line passed.....I think they would have moved it along faster.
CNN says attendance was 30,000 for Celebration 3 (http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movies/04/22/starwarsconvention.ap/index.html)
Felt like more than that!

Yeah, that's the same number Mary Franklin gave us on Sunday afternoon as the convention was closing. I said no way, but she specified that it meant 30,000 unique attendees throughout the 4 days, and not a total for all 4 days combined. I still think that sounds pretty low though...
and of course getting in on the 2nd Lucas session. Who knew there would be leftover seats for the 2nd and 3rd shows :P
Also a big thanks to Dave for donating the fodder, it definitely came in handy during the 4 days and it was great to meet you after all these years.

You were at that showing too? Where were you seated?
Kevin
Have yinz guys noticed something about a handful (really only a small number but I've seen it some here and there now, but not here at JD.com) of folks who seem to feel some odd need to gloat that they DIDN'T go to Celebration 3? Like they're in the C3 threads or conversations at various places and they just want to point out how they're glad they didn't do the con.
Yeah, those were mine. And no, pop-tarts never go bad. Those and cockroaches are the only things that will survive a nuclear blast.
