As much as I want the new guys, I really want that Scarriff Trooper in bulk haha.

Is the Cassian Andor repack in this wave? I forgot. If so, I’ll buy this whole wave.  :)

No, he's 2018 Wave 3 (with Range Trooper, Aprha and TLJ Luke).

2019 Wave 1 =
  2019 VC132 Saelt-Marae
  2019 VC133 Scarif Stormtrooper {repack}
  2019 VC134 TBA
  2019 VC135 Klaatu (Skiff Guard)

The TBA figure really rounds out the entire wave!   ;D

Is he TBA because he's a repack they're waiting to see they need, or is he TBA because he's a repack they didn't want pitchforks over at the show?

Or is he new?  Hmmmmm....

It's not a bad lineup.  The Shoretrooper saw such limited distribution that it's effectively going to be like issuing a new figure.  And I hope they don't screw it up by making that figure 1 per case.

As for the figure TBA?  I know there were rumors about a Leia in Boussh disguise, which would likely be a reissue of the 2013 3.75" Black Series figure.  And that figure would fit the theme of Yakface and the Klaatu skiff guard.  But if Hasbro was going to go with a Rogue One character to pair up with the Shoretrooper?  I'd like to see a new SA Rogue One figure, and there are plenty of characters to choose from there.

I'm guessing it's that rumored Boushh Leia, since it fits with the Jabba's Palace theme, but I'm really hoping that Sim Aloo rumor is true and it's in there.

In a weird twist of fate, I wanted a 2nd of her, to combine with the previous version that didn't have the detonator molded in her hands, but had ******** articulation as I recall...  Combined they should make one fantastic figure, and with the new face deco tech, hey, double win for me.

People are outraging at this being a repack and stuff, and while I kinda see their raging POV, repacks are an inevitability, so why not something good already with an improved deco and a convenient way to knock out one of the remaining 92 cardbacks?  People knee-jerk with the anger too quickly.  Just rationalize some of it, and really this isn't a bad decision, plus I guess she's selling for quite a bit right now on Ebay.

I like it!  That being said, I liked this figure when it came out the first time in 2014, too.  But if they're using the new paint apps on this figure?  I'll bite.  I've always thought that the Boussh disguise was pretty awesome.  And Leia has been getting a lot more love lately.

In this case, I agree on the repacks.  There are some versions of figures that are the ultimate iterations of that character.  At some point it is going to be very difficult for Hasbro to update a character that has been so well done.  The one potential point of consideration here is the left hand and the thermal detonator.  Personally?  I think that the way they sculpted the left hand looks pretty good.  It's grasping the thermal detonator in a way that looks kind of neutral, so you can pose it either extended or by the figures side without it looking strange in either pose.  And given the wrist articulation?  I think that kind of articulation was seen as a tradeoff, and offering a removable thermal detonator like in the TSC version might have compromised the wrist articulation.

The TVC line will always be something of a draw because of the power of that packaging.  People seem more inclined to collect TVC figures because the packaging and artwork than other carded figures these days.  And for any character in Star Wars, it seems to be a point of pride to be presented on that black and silver card.

I’m fine with this repack.  Boussh was a part fo the original vintage line.  I get the thermal detonator gripe, too, but my main thing is her boots.  They’re the wrong color again.

The photo-real still doesn't make the likeness any closer to Fisher's look but it's still a great overall sculpt. I'll need to see one in person before I decide to shell out for this version.

I can't help but chuckle seeing how far technology has come from the days of the Princess Leia 2-packs.

Yak Face is also 2 per case.

Jayson - do we know the breakdown of this 2019 Wave 1 case? Are we finally at the point where it's a wave of 4 figures and each figure is packed 2 per case or is YakFace the "lucky" figure and Leia, Scarif Stormtrooper and Skiff Klaatu all packed 1 per case?

I'm hoping that the online retailers will be offering individual figure pre-orders so I can score a bunch of the Scarif Troopers.

I either missed the reports that Hasbro was doing that for the online retailers or no one really reported it, but I was VERY pleased to have my Range Troopers arrive from EE in a case that indicated it was a solid case of Vintage Range Troopers. So hopefully Hasbro will be doing the same with the Scarif Troopers.

It is my understanding that EE does indeed order and receive solid cases of one figure in addition to the traditional "wave" case.

I'm crossing my fingers for a 2 per case of each figure from this wave. I'm enjoying buying by the case when I can, especially with the added bonus of having the boxes for storage.

If you guys don’t mind using our affiliate links (I’m on my phone so struggling to give you a specific one) on the front page for TVC wave 4 case preorders, I know Jeff and myself both appreciate it and the assortment is decent to split with a friend too. 🤷‍♂️

I believe the above link works for the case.  I don’t see individual figs or sets, or I’d be ordering a dozen or so Shore Troopers tonight.  :-\

Anyway happy new year guys!

I'm just going to go ahead and say it: Opening a fresh case of all-new vintage collection figures (I even count Leia as all-new because the head looks so much better) is almost orgasmic. This was a great case to buy, and got my two Yakfaces (for the palace and for the barge) in one shot. Ditto with Klaatu.

The Scariff Stormies are awesome (I never found the original release), and now I need more of the Rangetrooper.

Feeling good tonight. It's nice to get some Star Wars stuff again. With full articulation. And excellent sculpts.

Got my case and boy howdy am I pleased! The "Yak-Face" and Skif Guard Klatuu are just beautiful pieces. And the Leia is well worth it, the paint application on the face alone makes the new head.

These knocked off two of my top wants. Now, lets get ultimate sculpts of 8D8 and EV-9D9 out of the way!

8D8 even has a base BAD fig available...  I’d love to see Squidbead and Ishi Tib get done too (technically Ishi never got done, his figure is from Home One), but Bib desperately needs TVC’d to me.

That said I’d love to get the JP Snaggletooth cuz he’s cool looking to me, and the dude who shoots Luke’s hand deserves a figure I think.

I strangely still think Tessek is near perfect. I love that figure, and the POTJ era in general. Ishi Tib for sure. Bib I never get excited for in any version, but I'd go for an update.

I agree that the sculpt on Tessek is still excellent, but the amount of gesturing that you can do with the new Yakface makes me want upgraded versions of some of the standout palace guests. The POTJ Tessek really only has one pose, and his cape is really stiff, so no one can stand near him.

Bib doesn't need to get into ninja poses, but he definitely needs to be able to be more expressive, and that'll take articulation.

Definitely agree on the JP Snag, Jesse. I've come so close over the years to just finally banging out a custom of him, but I never pulled the trigger because I feel like we'll get him eventually. The Ketanna release may see a nice little surge of Jabba-related characters, so I'll hold off again.

It's funny, I definitely know that the Ishi Tib figure we have is from Home One, but I've never displayed him there. He's always in Jabba's palace because that's where I associate him with. When we get a new version I'll slot him into the rebel collection finally.

I'd also say it's time for the Max Rebo band to see a complete resculpt. Especially if it comes with a pre-special edition Sy Snootles.

I can accept upgraded articulation on any figure really that was shafted before.  Like Duros, Tessek, Bib, whatever.  That’s why a DS gunner update is kinda meh to me.
Title: Re: 2019 Vintage Collection Wave 1

That’s why a DS gunner update is kinda meh to me.

At this point, I'm pretty much against any resculpts even for stuff that could use it like EV, 8D8, or Ishi Tib.  If they are going to invest the $ into tooling, I'd rather they focused on giving us first run stuff that's never been done - Sim Aloo, Cliegg Lars, Geezum, Fozec, Yoxgit, some of the other Human Skiff Guards (russian hat guy, Taym Drengaren, etc).

I'd gladly buy the resculpts sure, but I just wish for more NEW NEW instead of NEW resculpt.  :-\

Post by: Muftak on January 29, 2019, 10:52 PM
I am with you on wanting new, but I have to take exception with Ishi Tib. I have been stewing about the Home One Ishi getting released instead of the Jabba Ishi for 20 years. To me he would definitely qualify as a "new" figure, and one of the non-Kenner aliens that to me seemed essential and obvious in the Palace.
Title: Re: 2019 Vintage Collection Wave 1
Post by: Jesse James on January 30, 2019, 12:45 AM
Ishi would be new, imho so I’m all for him...  while I wouldn’t mind a new Home One one too I’m also with Jeff that with the limited way the line is now, I’d prefer new to old.  I think JP Ishi is fine...  not my top wants of new from his place (snags is my guy) but yeah I would like Russian hat guy, Frozec, etc.

I also thumb my nose (slightly) to repaints right now.  But I’d totally prefer that to a repack half the time.  I mean if it’s filling that spot that’d be cool.
Title: Re: 2019 Vintage Collection Wave 1
Post by: Darth_Anton on January 30, 2019, 11:44 AM

And Squidface, Bib Fortuna & Ishi Tib!

I dunno. I'd put Bib and Squid way down the list. In spite of the low articulation, I think both sculpts are perfectly adequate and display well with the newest sculpts. I also think "Squidface" is one of the early sculpting success of the modern line.

Ishi Tib, yes. Both versions.

Starting to get a little worried about this wave.  I pre-ordered from EE but missed out getting my order filled in the first batch of cases they got in.

Noticed today that the EE listing has been moved to "Sold Out".  Hope they are still expecting more to cover existing pre-orders.  It's been a long, long time since I had EE fail me on a pre-order - over ten years at least.  :-\

edit: of course, after I post this,  the listing was changed again to "Pre-Sold Out: Coming in March 2019" instead of the ominous Sold Out listing.  That helps my hope I'll get this order filled sometime soon at least.

Got my case of this wave from EE today.

Since I didn't open either of the carded Yakface figures that came with my Sail Barges, this was the first opportunity I had to actually open one since he comes 2 per case.

What an amazing figure! Hasbro really went all out on this figure in terms of both sculpt and articulation. Same thing goes with the Klaatu Skiff Guard. I pre-ordered 2nd openers of each from Hasbro Pulse, I may just be tempted to place another order for one more of each just because of how amazing these figures are.

We were driving through the strip mall on the other side of town, where a new Ollie's has come in to replace our old Toys R Us. (Burlington has been there forever.) One of the vacant spots had a huge sign up saying "coming soon: Ross" and when I let out an excited squeal my wife asked if it's supposed to be a good store. I replied no it supposed to be a disgusting place, but I hear they get clearanced Star Wars toys! She rolled her eyes.

I wouldn’t call Ross bad by any means...  at least here they’re super clean and just a typical close out store in that they’re rows of clothes and sort of hodge podge shelves of stuff for other departments.  They’re very clean and fairly organized though.  I have 4-5 around me in various parts of the city.  It isn’t a bastion of Star Wars toys either though.

I’m thinking some nearer whwrerver they’re HQ is get better or at least more stuff.  Mine get only sporadic stock of old Star Wars Toys.

the only 3 3/4" I could find last week at Ollies was a Baze and Chirrut 2 pack.

I go back and forth on buying that. I want those two characters, but I hate the 5poa thing. Since they're kind of main characters, I'm holding out hope that we get proper versions of them, but they are a noticeable hole in my connection.

With the pace and focus of TVC releases being on new entertainment?  Who knows when Hasbro is going to get around to revisiting ROGUE ONE in the TVC line.  I think Chirrut is such a natural choice for a TVC figure, but it simply hasn't happened yet and I don't know if it will.
