Title: Titanium Series Ultra (Action Fleet scale)
Post by: Jeff on September 20, 2005, 03:43 PM
I see that Hasbro updated today with news of the Titanium Series Ultra (http://www.hasbro.com/starwars/pl/page.news/newsID.EF435A79-D56F-E112-48859853315A6CEF/default.cfm) line, starting with the X-Wing and Gunship.  I'm guessing these are just larger versions, is that right?  If so, I might just wait and get a few from this line, depending on price.

In case you didn't read the story when Hasbro originally posted in back on August 26th, you can read it at Hasbro.com (http://www.hasbro.com/starwars/pl/page.news/newsID.73B802FD-D56F-E112-4B86A8BAD890417E/default.cfm) again today.

Nothing like re-posting an old story (word-for-word) and pretending it's something new...  ::)

Damnit.  I have absolutely ZERO instincts for knowing what is going to be popular.  I swear.  I never bought an Unleashed.  By the time I start getting interested in those they cancel the line and everything skyrockets.  By the time I start getting into GG busts those things go up.  Then it was the Kubricks.  Now I look into Titanium and they all go up.

LOL!

The Titanium Ultra is the new life of the Action Fleet.  I picked up the Gunship and it's exactly like my AF version but with a better pain job (and the whole metal instead of plastic thing).   I love the AF line and these are super cool but I don' t think it will last due to the price.  My WM still has a lot of these ships just sitting there.

BTW, I really want the Jedi Starfighter from AOTC in diecast/mini form I didn't get the 3 3/4 scale fighter because it was too big but I would LOVE a smaller version.  Also wishing for: ultra Star Destroyer, & MonCal Ship.

I just split this topic off from the smaller scaled Titanium ship discussion, since this is kind of a separate line.  Anyway, I was really torn over this line when I first saw it down at Comic Con, especially since I really loved the Action Fleet line.  Since these were based on the old Action Fleet molds (though Hasbro ridiculously denies that), and since these are a nicer heftier metal than the plastic AF versions, and these might even have slightly better paint jobs, I was very intrigued by them.  But the thought of rebuying the same exact ships but in metal was rather annoying to me, especially since I don't even have room for my AF as it is.  But I decided I'd wait just to see if the pricepoint was similar to the last time to ultimately decide...

But at DOUBLE the price of the prior AF, there's just no way I'm going to be plunking down a fat $20 for every one of these suckers (assuming more are made).  Just a bad move on Hasbro's part, I think.  More rehashes, higher price, exclusive (right now), etc.  That's a losing proposition for a new line right there if I ever saw one...

Pictures of the first "non-excluisve" wave of ships:

As a reminder, while the Gunship and X-Wing are currently Wal-Mart exclusives, next year the Ultra line should be available EVERYWHERE (ie no longer be exclusive to Wal-Mart) in 2006.

While shopping at a Wal-mart across town yesterday, I saw these "ultra" versions for the first time.  I had the X-Wing in the cart, and wanted to scan it, and it came up for $19.97 or so.  I did want to get it, but since I found some other figures/stuff, and we were doing some Christmas shopping too, I decided to wait for now.  Hopefully that's not a mistake.  I know some people aren't crazy about these, but I never bit on the Action Fleet line, and I always kind of regretted it.  I'm thinking about picking up the OT ships from this line, if they look pretty nice.  Is there any sort of rumor/confirmed list of what is coming post-Gunship/X-Wing?  Just curious what is on the way, if we know.

Is there any sort of rumor/confirmed list of what is coming post-Gunship/X-Wing?

Once we get past the Gunship/X-Wing, the line becomes widely released (is no longer Wal-Mart exclusive).

In the new era of non-exlusive Titanium Ultra, the list goes something like this:

Wave 1 (Confirmed - see photo above):
ARC-170
Tri Droid Fighter

Wave 2 (uncomfirmed)
Slave 1
Snowspeeder

Wave 3 (uncomfirmed)
AT-AT
Millennium Falcon

Wave 2 and 3 are fairly accurate, but they have not been officially confirmed yet so you know how it goes with Hasbro - subject to change and all that jazz.

I really, really hope they make the cruisers (AOTC, ROTS and star destroyer).    Hey an evolution pack!  Even the small die cast version of all three together would be cool.  I'm just glad they are making the Jedi Attack Cruiser  :D.  Mon cal cruiser would be nice along with the Death Star II or I but it's a long shot realistically.

I've seen some of you guys mentioning that you've picked up "Titanium" ships lately and had no idea they were larger scale die-cast ships. I saw them in Walmart the other day; X-Wing and Gunship. They look pretty cool. I might get some. How are they? Good quality? I'm hating the little metal ones now because they're using gummy rubber parts on them. How much do the large ones cost? I didn't any prices in the store.
Title: Re: Titanium Series Ultra (Action Fleet scale)
Post by: rishakra on October 27, 2005, 07:43 PM
$19.99 each.  A little hight but they are metal except for the "pointy" type parts that would hurt kids.  They are basically the Action Fleet ships redone, repainted and mostly metal.  I have the AF and Titanium version of both but comparing the Gunship I like the AF version better but it's nice to have another Gunship even if it's not quite as good as the AF ship. ("side" doors don't open on the metal one.)

20 bucks and no moving parts? Man, **** that.
Title: Re: Titanium Series Ultra (Action Fleet scale)

Well the ball turrets move just like the AF ships and the cockpit opens.  Just the side doors being metal now and all.  I guess that's why they don't move.

Well, I missed the boat in regards to the minis so I might bite on these.  Wish they were $15 instead of $20....

Does anybody here collect these?  If so, do you like them?
Title: Re: Titanium Series Ultra (Action Fleet scale)
Post by: rishakra on October 28, 2005, 08:43 PM
I love the Gunship!  It's much more sturdy than the AF version.  I don't have the X-wing but I'm tempted to get it...  I've been taking long looks at them in the store.

I saw an endcap of these tonight, and the Gunship was very tempting.

But $20 is just too much for what you get. I forsee this line going the way of 2002 Action Fleet.

If they were cheaper, they'd be better off.

It make me sad but you are 100% correct.  This will no longer be a WM exclusive and there will be even more people who see the price tag and scoff.   At least Target will have a bunch on sale by late next year...and they have good sales too  :D

The  Hasbro  site  has  just  updated  the  ultra  line  with  a  new  Mellenium  Falcon  with  opening  canopy,  retractable  landing  gear  and  opening  entry  hatch,  among  other  things,  and  a  new  AT-AT  with  articulated    knee  joints  access  panel  and  mini  snowspeeder!  These  are  definitely  not  (total)  action  fleet  rehashes.

Post by: Brian on March 30, 2006, 02:53 PM
I've kind of stayed away from this line so far, just because at $20 a pop I just can't afford them.  Plus, I've been trying to scale back on things this year, at least as best I can.  That being said, I really like the Falcon and AT-AT with mini snowspeeder that are being shown now.  If I can talk the wife into letting those be displayed in the basement, I might try to pick those up.  I really like the addition of the snowspeeder with the AT-AT, almost making it a little "scene".  I can almost guarantee I'll get the Falcon, as long as I can find it.  I don't know about anyone else, but these are really being hidden at our local WM...being stuck way back in a back toy aisle alongside totally unrelated merchandise.  TRU always has a few in the SW section, and I don't I've seen the "Ultra" ones at our Targets yet.

I  just  found  the  Ultra  Falcon,  Galactica,  and  X-1.  I  passed  on  the  Tie  fighter,  I  already  have  a  half  dozen  from  Action  Fleet  but  piced  up  the  other  two.  The  Falcons  detail  is  nice  but  the  Galactica  is  kinda  iffy,  and  purpleish.  I  was  expecting  something  more  metalic  looking.

Case  ratio  looks  like (I'm guessing);

1  Falcon
1  Galactica
2  Ties

Uh... I'd be very interested in knowing that as well, since I haven't even opened any of mine yet.  I'd be pretty surprised if they're not removable though.

Still haven't seen the dang Falcon or AT-AT, though I did finally nab the Vader's TIE last week at a Target.  Any word on what's on tap after that?

The Hasbro reps down at Comic Con last month said that this line was struggling (unlike the smaller 2-3" line), and that it's future was currently up in the air.  So this line may fizzle out before it hardly even got started, possibly.  If they only make it 6 ships into the OT and that's all, I may very well just return all of mine and ditch the line entirely since it'd be so incomplete looking.  I guess we'll find out soon enough...

LOL, I can answer that for you, but only because I saw an empty package tonight for the Ultra Titaniums.  Somebody just carved it right out and left the package behind :o  I've no idea whether you're supposed to remove it or not though.

I wound up picking up the Galactica and found that the cover does easily pop off and the base screws off. Looks like it's supposed to do that, although, the base is hideous and I haven't been able to find an alternate way to mount it. :P

According to this week's Q and A at RS (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Hasbros_10th_STAR_WARS_QA_The_Answers_99864.asp), it sounds like the Ultra line is being discontinued as of Fall 2006.

Maybe due to the cancellation, but I noticed our local Target had all of the Titanium Ultra ships on clearance.  I happened to see the Falcon for the first time, and my wife said to pick it up since it was clearanced for $9-something.  I don't have a desire to get any more, especially with the line ending, but I kind of like having a Falcon in a little display case like that.

With news of this line being cancelled, I'm wondering if we'll even see Darth Vader's TIE released.  It's supposed to be released in the fifth wave (http://www.jedidefender.com/checklists/otherhasbro/titaniumalpha.php#ultra), which isn't scheduled until the fall.  It's the only ship I'm interested in from this line as a part of my Darth Vader focus.

Was there only one BSG ship in the Ultra line?  I didn't care for these things when they were originally shipping - I assume they've stopped shipping at this point, but there's one hiding at one of my local stores.  If there were 2 BSG ships, then I'd just as soon give up.

I'm eagerly waiting to see what the new TRU exclusive JSF and TIE Fighter Ultras will look like.  I wish that they weren't priced at $24.99 a pop.  I also wonder if the rerelease of the X-Wing and Gunship will be repainted.  I think a Rancor Gunship Ultra would look pretty cool.

I got my Anakin JSF and TIE Fighter Ultras via UPS this afternoon.  Both came in very nice packaging condition.  The JSF's paint job is quite nice.  It's got a bunch of battle wear stripe markings on it.  In the package, I'm not that impressed with the TIE.  I'm not sure what it is whether it's the detail or the way the ship looks in the packaging, it looks kinda boring...
Title: Re: Titanium Series Ultra (Action Fleet scale)
Post by: JediMAC on April 28, 2007, 03:09 AM
I wish I'd gone with the BOGO sale as well, but was too lazy.  I've only been picking up the OT ships anyway, so it's not quite as bad.  I guess I didn't post in here (just on the main news page), but I found all four a couple weeks ago up at the Thousand Oaks TRU.  Oddly enough, the Santa Clarita TRU has had several TIEs and JSFs sitting around all week, but no X-Wings or Gunships.  Weird.

I wonder if this is really the end of the line for the Ultra Titaniums, or if there's another exclusive or two still in the pipeline?  I think I recall hearing this was it for them, which I guess would be fine with me, especially at their ridiculous $20 - $25 price point, when I already bought them all for $10 in plastic years ago.  I do like the added heft of the Titanium, but not for 100% or more added in price.

This was a pretty nice looking wave to end on though.  Red 3 is a bit blah, but the other three ships look real sharp.

I saw them all at TRU in Jersey ... I passed on the X-Wing and Tie....

Havimg the first X-wing really kept me from spending the loot....

As for the TIE... it just looked boring... so I passed for now.

But the Gunship and the JSF look great. The JSF details are jus perfect. I am happy with these two.

Picked up the Ultra Clone Wars Gunship today, so that makes 3 out of the 4.  I didn't pick up the X-Wing even though it was available.  The nose guns on the gunship are nowhere close to being straight.  The right one is bent backwards because it's forced right up against the top of the base.  The left one is better because there's more room for the gun since the ship is leaning towards it's right.  Hopefully, the nose guns will straighten out after I remove the ship from the packaging and display case.

Since this thread hasn't been bumped up since last Fall, I don't know if anyone cares - but I just noticed that HTS has their Titanium Ultras on clearance for $7.99 each.  I have to admit I was slightly tempted, but I'll probably just stick with the Falcon I picked up at Target for around $5.  They make nice display pieces with the plastic cases.  Just for info, they have these in stock:  Millennium Falcon, Vader's TIE, Slave 1, Snowspeeder, AT-AT, ARC 170, and Tri Droid.

I'm not sure where they pulled them from, but our TRU randomly came up with a pair of the Space Whale Gunships for $5 each.  I went ahead and picked one up to, I dunno, sit in a box with my ARC 170?  I've never done that move where you bring toys to set on your desk, but the relics of this line seems like an excellent candidate for that... maybe without the plastic bubble that I still don't totally understand.

Don't know if this is of interest to you all on the Tites page, but two the TJ Maxx and one Marshall's that I stopped at (hunting for the $3.99 TAC figures) that had some of the larger scale Titanium's for $9.99.  At different stores I saw Darth Vader's Tie fighter, the Tri-Droid, the Falcon and Slave One.  Your mileage may very, but I figured this would be the crowd most interstered in that heads-up.

medium vehicles like x wing and tie fighter hold the scale, the at at should be bigger, however its detailed sculpt is amazing.
In prequel ships ultra vehicles have depicted them with colorful designs.

If anyone is still reading this  :)

Does anyone have a fair estimate for what a Ultra Titanium Millennium Falcon should be worth now? I',m kicking myself that I never found one at TJ Maxx for $10.

To be specific i only need a loose version in good condition, I dont care about the bubble and the bi plastic base. I only would care about the ship and the action fleet style base.
