Just wondering if anyone has seen a deal for a PS2 (newer thin one) for less than $149.99? My very old double decker finally got the final Disc Read Error. It has had this issue for about 18 months now and thanks to an online guide, I have been able to fix it everytime. Alas, this time, it just won't fix.
I know some of you will say wait, the PS3 is coming out buy I won't be buying the PS3 for between 12 to 24 months after it comes out for several reasons:
1. I won't pay the new price up front and will wait 2 to 3 years for the price to come down.
2.  I rarely buy new games when they are released. I wait for them to drop to the $19.99 or $29.99 price in order to save money. It is my experience by waiting for the new console to drop in price, some of the games I want I will be able to pick up for between $19.99 to $29.99 or even lower. This also gives software companies time to put out enough of the new games for the older games to drop in price.
3. I like to have a much wider selection of PS3 games than the 20 that will be there for the first 3 to 6 months.
So, for the next year or two the PS2 will work for me. Anyone know where I can pick one up cheaper than $149.99?

Toy Reviews / Tactical Ops Trooper
« on: October 23, 2005, 07:11 PM »
Here is my review of the Tact. Ops Trooper.

Painting. I have a couple of them and on neither do I see a major issue with the paint job. The left leg on one where the double lines are seem slightly distorted and off, but not enough to really matter. If I had left it carded I would never had known.
I like the two strips running down the side of each leg, and wish the JTA would have had these.  The helmet is painted nice.  As far as the sculpt under the helmet, same as the AT RT figure.
The battle damage paint is simply black paint that has been painted on. I would have preferred to see something similiar to the Walmart 3 pack for the DVD release set to help make these look more damaged. Overall though, the jury is out with me whether the black paint works or not for me. Finally the dirty feet/ bloody feet does not serve this figure well. I guess it makes it look more like an Ep. II Genosis Figure then an Ep. III figure for the casual fan.
Paint Score: 8 out of 10

Acticulation: Same as the AT TE gunner, which is not bad, and yes, the elbow joints seem to be tighter. However, one of the 2 I have the legs are rather loose and seem if my son played with it too much, I would have the loosey leg figure. The legs are loose at the hip where the ball socket is. Not sure if I should dip in hot water and freeze and see if that tightens em up or just trying freezing.  Articulation occurs in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, knee and feet. I still am in fear that the arm will break out and having the figure hold the gun is still awkward. Total Ariculation: 7 out of 10

Accessories: The helmet is a nice feature if you want to have some lying around a Zett Jukassa battle scene, but you can definetly see the chin and skin when it is on, similiar to the AT TE and to the Evolutions figures. The gun is the same as the AT TE and it is still a bear to get it to fit into the right hand so it looks like the clone is shooting the gun and not just holding it. Easy to get the left arm, wrist and hand in place to hold the stock of the gun. No other accessories except the stand which is the standard stand. I have a problem with that. I KNOW it saves them cost but to have a stand that looks more like the Jedi Temple would have been a nice touch.
Accessories Score: 7-8 out of 10.

Playability: My son and I played JTA with these and the JTA clones on Friday night for 3 hours and it was a blast. The clones held up great to an 11 year and a 40 year old acting like an 11 year old. We were both still timid with the figures because we did not want an arm to fall off like with the AT TE gunner.
Playability Score: 8 of 10

Overall: I would rate this figure a 7 to 7.5 out of 10. Not near the SA 41 clone, or even the #6 clone, but it is okay.  I do believe that I like it better then the #6 in the JTA, but that will be a LONG debate me thinks. I have said this before it just simply shows what Hasbro might have done had they use the SA 41 Clone. I do hope they don't use the AT TE figure again though.  I hate being timid with a figure when my son and I are playing with them. If you card or only display, then the figure will look good. I am still waiting for my digital camera to arrive and I'll add the picture when it does, but these two with 6 JTA clones make an excellent back drop to the Evolutions Anakin from Ep. III or even the Sith Eye Anakin from the ROTS. I have mine fanned out behind Anakin/Vader in a V.

Having a hard time in Utah! (wow, didn't think I would say that!) finding the Tactical Ops Clone and the R4-P17.  Will to buy or trade.

For trade I have some extras of the current line, I have duplicates from the POTJ, POTF2, and the Saga and Clone Wars lines. Would probably prefer to buy up right. PM me if interested.

Star Wars Action Figures / Clone as Jedi
« on: October 8, 2005, 08:39 AM »
On the official site on page 2 of the upcoming DVD they have a picture of a clone dressed as a Jedi.

Though I am comfortable with my painting of figures, I would like to make this up as a custom. I am thinking of taking an AT TE head, put it on the body of a Jedi, and then use a soft robe from one of my 20 Ep. I Acessory kits that have the Jedi Robe so the hood covers the head.

So, I guess my question is, which body would anyone recommend using (I was thinking of Agen Kolar, but am fearful it may not be in scale to a Clone's body height). Any other thoughts?

I go off track next Friday and I think I am going to work on putting a dia. together of Anakin and Obi Wan cutting the hole in the Seperatist Ship.

Ok, I've decided to return to my collecting status for the year before ROTS. I would label this as the casual collector. I hunted ONLY if I really wanted a figure which was extremely rare. I would look at the toys only when I was in the stores for a normal trip, and if I found something I wanted, I would buy it. No special trips. I really believe the only time I am going to really hunt next year is when Commander Cody comes in.
I guess with ROTS I am tired and am in need of a break. I love collecting, but Hasbro is only getting my money for figures that are worth my money, and ones that I am interested in.

edit - just adjusted the title a tad - Jesse

Episode 1 / The Circle is complete!
« on: September 5, 2005, 02:16 AM »
Well, tonight I was having to hunt through the last 15 or so tubs and boxes from our move six months ago. Over this time I have been looking for my last boxed Royal Starship. Tonight I found it, still in the box and in really good condition! Nice to see the red R2 unit there also! We have one opened with the Red R2 and we have found all the pieces, but it was just nice to find the good old Royal Starship! I really liked this ship and the accessories, and all the places it has for figures!

Star Wars Action Figures / The Black Dog Customs
« on: September 3, 2005, 02:23 PM »
I have to give HUGE kudos to Chewie as I have just finished my first customs. My first one followed Chewie's Mace. I took an Agen Kolar body, put on a Mace Jedi Council head, and trimmed the front of the tan Jedi tunic. I won't have a digital camera until around the 1st of October so I cannot post pictures, but I am very pleased.

My next two were nothing much, just paint and some battle damage of the SA Clone and making them into 501st Clones. I used the picture (small) on page 44 of the Visual guide and a pictue of Hasbro's 501st Tactical Ops Clone from SDCC.  The first clone was a learning experience so I made two more and I am happy with them!

My next custom is to take another SA clone and do a paint job based on the green clone on page 44 of the visual dictionary. I really like that clone so . . .

I also intend to do some customizing of some wookies as well, making some new warriors and I would like to make 1 Wookie Jedi.

Anyone have ideas for make a custom of the Imerpial FX-9 that helps to rebuild Vader? I have several FX-7 still in package and would use one as a base, but need to look at the head, arms etc. Any input or direction would be appreciated.

Man, if I had ever guessed how much I would enjoy this, I would have done this a LONG time ago!

Jay

Watto's Junk Yard / Have you ever passed
« on: August 29, 2005, 02:08 AM »
On Friday night I went hunting from 9:00pm until 1:00am. As I was l leaving the wife said, "Oh, you are going out tonight. I was thinking we could go with the kids and get a soda or something sweet, then come back and have dessert." Well, I know what dessert she met and that was really hard to pass up. IF I hadn't been going hunting with a friend, I would have pass.
Well, I found nothing that night and instead of having a romantic evening with my wife, I sat next to or talked to my friend who is definetly not as good looking as my wife. Well out trying to find the Sith Evolutions, the motto hit me; Sith or Sex? Well, that night I did not pick up the Sith and when I got home and she was asleep I hit the double wammy of not getting anything that night! The moral. The Sith will always let you down, take the wife!
So the question is, have you ever passed on a romantic evening for something to do with collecting, and then lived to regret it? What motto would you use to describe the night?

Newbies / Old and New
« on: August 17, 2005, 03:20 AM »
Never did this so thought I better. Been around since March 12, 2004, but never filled this out. My name is Jay, I'm 40 and I left a successful business career in 2003 to teach, which is what I do now. I teach 6th grade and am licensed to teach 1-12 (elementary and secondary).
Anyway, been collecting since about 95 and love Star Wars. I have been going through a change though in my collecting as I took most of the OTC off, since I open and only bought new stuff I liked. Same with ROTS. After ROTS ends, I may really back off on collecting, diverse my interests (hiking, camping, fishing, and especially being with my wife of 17 years and our 12 and 11 year old children) and work on customizing, something I've wanted to do for some time.
Been very lucky in my time in both FL and Utah in collecting in that I have found most of what I want. Love the site!

Toy Reviews / Asajj Ventress from Jedi vs. Sith
« on: August 11, 2005, 01:28 AM »
Okay, I bought this because my 11 year old son had to have it and I am dreading it. Luckily the wife agreed it didn't have to come out of my collecting budget, whew!

Asajj is the best figure in the Battle Pack (I will review the Battle Pack later after I look carefully at the details of each figure). She has 8 points of articulation, head, shoulders, elbows, waist and legs at the hip. No knee or foot articulation though.

The paint job is good, and in the light of my office her front triangle decoration on her skirt looks cloth. I love the fact that this one has the storage for her sabers on her skirt, so if you remove the blades from the hilt you could store them there. Problem is for me, and perhaps I did not try hard enough, but the blades don't seem to detach from the hilts. I'll have to check my Clone Wars one and if they do I suppose I could use them there. The other con to this feature is that the lightsaber holders on the skirt are way to loose to even hold a lightsaber, and thus are for decorative use only, unless you superglued hilts into the handles.

Her head is a ball joint, and IMO sits on her head better then the CW Asajj did.  My son swapped heads earlier tonight and it did not look bad. This Asajj though is lacking the tatoos on the side of her head from the previous ones, looking more like the animated Asajj vs. the comic and book cover art from the Clone Wars Novels.

Playability is good on this figure, minus the articulation. Posing her is equal to the Clone Wars Asajj.

I do wish they had been able to make her skirt soft goods, it would have enhanced the figure IMO.

Overall, I would rate the figure a 7.5 to a 8 on a 1-10 scale (an 8 is too high though as I think about it, but I grade hard). If your thinking about buying the set just for Asajj, don't. She is not worth the $20 to $25 you'll pay. I think Hasbro has yet to produce the SA soft goods Asajj that many collectors will drool for. Again, the paint job is good, but be careful on the diamond dark eye shadow as I have seen the right eye darker and bigger then the left eye and vice versa.  Articulation is okay. A nice figure that will sit well next to my clone wars Asajj (and when my son is not playing with her).

We paid $19.95 at a local Walmart plus tax for the Jedi vs Sith Battle Pack.

Overall,  I like this figure, just want a Agen or Obi Wan Pilot level figure done of her.

Saga '02-'04 / Ephant Mon
« on: May 22, 2004, 01:17 AM »
Ephant Mon is showing up at TRU's in Utah in repacked Saga Wave 9 cases from last year. He was at two local TRU's today.
Also, locally, our Family Dollar stores have Saga figures going for $2. I found several Ephant's there for that price. Not mint, but in good condition.
