Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Jeff For Fan Club President!
« on: July 17, 2006, 05:03 PM »
Being paid cash as an employee is actually not the issue on which this turns.  Unpaid interns and even family members of all such parties would also be ineligible.  But the specific clear conflict with the rules under which Dustin falls is their clause that "ANYONE INVOLVED in the distribution of promotional materials for IDG or LFL is  ineligible for the promotion".

Dustin himself reported the original story about the contest, fully quoting IDG's press release before deciding to participate.  And of course, he routinely does so on both TF.N and RS when doing his reporting.  Pay is not a factor.

I think you might be taking the definition of "distribution" a little too far.  By your definition anyone in the press, anyone that ever wrote a blog or did a podcast or, potentially, any one that quoted them during a forum discussion could possibly be disqualified.  Now, if RS was an officially sponsored public relations firm for IDG and/or Lucasfilm then maybe that part of it would apply.

However, I think some of your other arguments still stand.  If you work for a company that in some way is an affiliate of those running the contest, you might be out.  That would seemingly include web sites that are affiliates, meaning you make money through sales when people click ad banners on your site. I also think OfficialPix would qualify.

But that part about distribution, no.  I have my own blog but I don't have advertisement banners or any affiliate links on my site and I don't think I'd be counted out if I quoted their press release and discussed it.

Yeah, but he's a mean drunk...

 ;)

Ah, how many of us have dreamed about doing that after reading CC.com...

 ;)    :P

How many of us have dreamed about doing that after getting an email with "I need more stories <whipcrack>!"

or "I'm out of headlines, write something witty <whipcrack>!"

On second thought, maybe "PDiddy" didn't refer to me at all, but to PDiddy Wise instead.

Maybe I should stop being so damned self-centered.

Now someone go get me some breast milk from a Cambodian immigrant.

I only drink the finest breast milks.

Now you're just making me sad again that season three of Chappelle's show has 50% less Chappelle.

Dude, image crop is your friend!

I don't know what it is about Brooke but she doesn't do it for me.  She's hot and all, I guess just not my type.

They look great!  How well are they constructed, pretty sturdy or not so much?

Nice head swaps.  Did you have to modify the Joe heads to fit the Marine bodies?

You know, I'm just ******* pissed at that.  A regular fan had no chance to win and instead the entire thing is being wasted on an insider that already gets benefits others don't have access to.

It's not even a RS.com or Dustin issue, I'd be upset if anyone related to a fan site had won this thing.  Just like any contest you see, employees or associates aren't eligible.  I'd argue that fan sites with inside connections like RS.com should be exempt as should their employees.

Other Toy Lines / Re: What is Your Favorite Figure "Scale"?
« on: July 10, 2006, 01:10 PM »
I've always been a fan of the 3.75" scale because of a lot of reasons mentioned previously in this thread; the ability to have vehicles, playsets and multiple accessories.  Plus I grew up with Fisher Price Adventure People, SW and GI Joe RAH.

Although I still like my 3.75" figures I'm also a fan of 12" because of the cloth outfits and the ability for more detail than at the smaller scale.  The Sideshow SW figures are a perfect example.  I'm a big 12" Joe fan and have some Action Man, 21st Century, bbi, Dragon and Max Steele items as well as Hasbro SW items.

I'd love to see a 12" scale line with $10 figures and various accessory packs similar to how Joe ran in the '60's and '70's and Barbie does now.  It won't really happen though.  Even Barbie is hurting these days.  Kids, and parents, just want to drop cash on one box and have everything included for that toy (not counting vehicles).

It's a shame, really, that the way kids play today has changed so much since the late '70's/early '80's when a lot of us were growing up.  Nobody has an imagination any more.

I may be wrong but just based on what I see in local neighborhoods and the apartment complex where I live, kids don't play with toys any more.  When I was a kid on a Saturday you could find me and my friends with SW and/or Joe figures spread out over two or three front lawns.  Now I see kids walking around with their iPod in their ears and their PSP in their hands.

Eh...sorry for the rant.  Anyway, 3.75" is my favorite scale with 12" running a very close second.

Man, does it surprise anyone that the origianl re-paint company has a variant for each figure in this line?

They look pretty cool, though.

If anyone here is a member of the GI Joe collector's club did you get your 12" or 3.75" subscription figure yet?

I got my 12" Foreign Adventurer yesterday and it's really cool.  Picked up the exclusive accessory set as well and it makes a great set when all put together.

Now I can't wait for the con to be over (it's this weekend) so I can get my 12" con set!!

Once people realize that everyone is racist and/or prejudiced it makes it easier to deal with.  However, that has nothing to do with people that are just plain stupid...that you can't fix. (To paraphrase the great American, Ron White)

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: If you had 5 Million Dollars...
« on: June 25, 2006, 05:24 PM »
Five million?  I'd pay off all my bills, build my dream house and retire to it.  That should leave me with about $4.5 million left over for me to live off the interest.

I have enough interests and hobbies that I could do them full time and I would if I didn't have to work.
