Post by: Jeff on July 17, 2023, 03:57 PM
Time to start up a thread...  the latest panel details from Hasbro PR:

Join Patrick and Jing from Hasbro Marketing and Chris and Eric from Hasbro Design as they discuss the popular Hasbro Star Wars line, including the Black Series and The Vintage Collection. Attendees will get an in-depth look at Hasbro’s latest action figure and premium roleplay offerings from throughout the saga. Word on the Holonet is there may also be a few surprises.

I'm surprised Patrick made it this long without accidentally revealing the HasLab item.  He's gotta a couple more days to keep it together.

I'd love to see another Bad Batch figure or two. I'd be nice if Hunter had some other members of the squad to pose with. I also wouldn't mind seeing some more "Finish the 96" figures, some Ewoks would be nice.

To help along the discussion on possible reveals, here is Jayson's latest rumor list (https://yakfaceforums.com/main/2023/01/03/2023-master-upc-dpci-sku-list/):

Wave ? 2023 – E7763
VC???  “Davis” – Luke Skywalker (Jedi Academy) x1
VC???  “Dover” – Grand Inquisitor
VC???  “Dubois” – Ahsoka Tano x1 – Ahsoka x1
VC???  “Downey” – HK-87 Assassin Droid – Ahsoka
VC???  “Driggs” – Morgan Elsbeth – Ahsoka
VC???  “Drummond” – Grand Admiral Thrawn

If the panel is going to be Ahsoka heavy (like the Ghost HasLab reveal for instance), then I could see them revealing the Ahsoka figures Jayson has here.  Thrawn was pipeline revealed (SWCE) but figure not shown yet.  That would leave Ahsoka, Elsbeth, and HK87 droid from Ahsoka to be revealed too.

I could also see them showing off figures for the other pipeline reveals from Celebration Europe - TVC Krennic, Pre Viszla, Revan; and the Obi-Wan/Vader Final Duel figures from OWK series that were pipeline revealed back in Feb 2023 (since they just showed off the Black Series versions recently).

Gotta admit, I laughed at that.

Give him a chance!  It's only Tuesday, and he's got a full 3 days to disappoint us!!!

Let the leaks begin... (https://twitter.com/yak_face/status/1681758493747957764)  Hasbro forgot to blackout the new figures shown on the cardbacks for the carded Luke/Inquisitor they have on display - oops!

Looking forward to today's panel - although seeing social media explode isn't necessarily a good thing.  Curating your feed can be a good thing!  Although the shot of the empty display case, along with the ensuing photoshops have been slightly amusing.  I'm also hoping that someone is going to livestream the panel.

The reveals of those figures on the cardback will be good.  I'm personally hoping that the Thrawn figure is a bit taller than Admiral Piett.  Hasbro has generally been paying attention to character height, and Thrawn, as a character, is considerably taller than your average Imperial officer.  I'm definitely happy to see Morgan Elsbeth in there.  Her appearance in "The Jedi" in season 2 of The Mandalorian was great, and that duel scene was fantastic!  Part of me is hoping that she comes with the beskar spear.

Regarding the Haslab - if it is the Ghost, how many people here are planning on backing it from the get go?

how many people here are planning on backing it from the get go?

Good question, one I've been asking myself since it was rumored.  The thing that has me most worried is the size.  If the rumors are true and it's bigger than the BMF, then I don't know where I would display it without sacrificing another display on my big vehicle tables (SWGE/ST themed BMF, AOTC Jango Slave I, CW AT-TE set-up, etc).

I want to see the plan (hopefully they show all the tiers upfront), the cost, and the size before I decide to back it.

I'm 95% likely to back it day 1, unless the speculation on price and what it includes has been off target.

Yeah, I'm going to back it, and then start planning a multi-tiered big ship shelf that I've been thinking about for a few years.

I am out because vehicles are not really part of my collection, giant vehicles even less so.

But 8 years ago my son would have gone nuts for this and I likely would have backed it for him. Back then he used the BMF as a stand in for the Ghost when he would play Rebels.

I'm also 95% sure to back the Ghost on day 1. Something would have to be very wrong with it for me to back out.

I will too... it doesn't matter if you do it on day 1 or 58 if you know you want one.

I will too... it doesn't matter if you do it on day 1 or 58 if you know you want one.

I will add this caveat about the benefits of backing early...

The Razorcrest was only supposed to have 2  tier unlocks, but it getting backed so insanely fast prompted Hasbro to add the Carbonite blocks and the Jawa Chief to the list. Those only got in there because people backed early.
Title: Re: San Diego Comic Con 2023 Reveals
Post by: Dave on July 21, 2023, 04:03 PM
I think early momentum helps build the backing list too.  FOMO.  I see no benefit in waiting as it may seem like there aren't enough interested people and the negative buzz will start to rise.

I'm pretty sure I saw the back of the head of Anthony (aka Darth Anton) from the Imperial Communique there.  Not sure if he took video of the panel, but he's had some good photos of the Hasbro booth on his IG page.

I have to say I am a little underwhelmed by most of the TVC stuff revealed or pipeline revealed.  Most of the *new* stuff is ripe for double-dipping (like Sabine being in a world building set and also probably on a single card).  Hard to get excited about Thrawn and 4 more Imp Officers even if we all knew this is exactly what was going to happen when we saw that new Imp Office buck on Piett/Jerjerrod.

Especially the pipeline stuff.  It 8 of those figures seems like they are potentially a repack, kitbash, or resculpt of something we already have.  :-\

Same. The Ghost offsets that for me a bit at least. I was really excited for Sabine, Thrawn, & Revan but the rest was underwhelming on the TVC front. I do like the Pre-Vizla, but he is just another kitbash.

The pipeline though... OOOFFF. The 4 Mando pipeline figures are all kind of duds. Finn, Cassian, the Phase I Clone, & Dooku are all kinda meh. I'll take all of them but none are particularly exciting. I would have much rather had NEW figures from Andor, the OT, Mando, Ahsoka, Jedi: Survivor, or KOTOR.

It was also surprising to not see product reveals for older pipeline figures like Krennic & missing out on the HK & Morgan Elsbet reveals.

Totally boring choices for TVC.

Axe Woves?
Grogu?
A Clone Trooper?
Count Dooku
Finn
Cassian from Rogue One?

Horrifically boring.

My thoughts exactly - especially Axe Woves, Clone Trooper, Finn, Dooku.  Did they just go through their archives and find figures that had tooling in good shape and picked those?  Seriously, who is going to buy those figures?

I am super excited for 25th anniversary TPM Retros! I figure it is likely they will be handled like the 40th Anniversary ROTJ Retro wave (as opposed to the Disney+ Show waves) and not really be a visible presence at retail.

For once I never saw any Landos on a peg in that wave!

This had to have been the worst SDCC of recent memory…nothing against Ahsoka or Rebels but a bunch of rehashes for VTC and stuff I really don’t care about for TBS….really the only thing I thought was cool was the Imperial Officer pack

I thought the same thing until I remembered that there is likely a weekly PR thing coming in August/September while Ahsoka is running.  I am guessing they had to save some stuff like Morgan or HK87 for that.

Some information has come to light about the pipeline reveals.

Finn - this is set to be a photo real reissue of the 3.75" Black Series figure.  BIG MISTAKE.  That figure wasn't well received in 2016.  Part of it was the execution and part of it was the packaging.  Adding a new paint job and a TVC cardback isn't going to fix that.  It would have been preferable to get Finn in another look for this figure - as FN-2187 in FO Stormtrooper armor, or his TLJ looks.  Or most preferably in his TROS look which has never been offered in either the 3.75" or 6" figure lines.

Cassian Andor (Rogue One) - This will be a photo real reissue of the VC 130 figure.

As for the others?
Axe Woves - I'm scratching my head about why Hasbro is going to the well again with Axe Woves so soon.  But I think I heard something about this new version being based on Mando season 3.  Hopefully in the process they'll fix the helmet.
Mandalorian Fleet Commander - this one seems like a layup in light of this characters armor and existing Mandalorian tooling that could be put to use.  Hasbro is already going there in the Black Series, so going with this particular Mandalorian in TVC seems to be another instance of Hasbro leveraging some of the existing Mandalorian tooling for this figure.
TM season 3 Mandalorian - this one seems like a no brainer.  I can see Hasbro offering up Mando with the latest tooling along with the season 3 armor deco.  And I was shocked to see that the most recent mainline version of Mando was VC181!  Sure, there has been the deluxe Maldo Kreis version and the one from The Rescue set.  But I can see Hasbro wanting a new Mando in the mainline.
TM season 3 Grogu - I think the reasoning behind this is pretty much the same as the season 3 version of Mando.  The pram got updated.  And hopefully there are some other things that will be unique to season 3, like the Beskar plate armor
Phase 1 Clone Trooper - this seems like a predictable offering in light of the new Clone Trooper tooling.  The big question?  Will they go with the removable helmet?  It doesn't really work on the phase 2 Clones.
Count Dooku - AT LAST!  It's been so long since there's been a new 3.75" Count Dooku.  The 6" Black Series version was amazing, and I hope this TVC release captures Christopher Lee's likeness just as well as the TBS version did.

Following up on Nick's post - some good info in this Q&A -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bO4Y-ndAk4

Pipeline:
- TVC Dooku = 100% new
- TVC Axe Woves (TM Season 3) = kitbash of Target figure with S3 updates
- TVC Cassian = VC130 photoreal repaint

VC300 will be a "great figure", "especially for the moment"

Good details on the new TVC Jabba set (dais is repainted from the BOBF set version; all new railing; all-new hooka pipe & frog/snack, etc; Crumb is all new with articulation; 8D8 is all new with limited articulation - mostly flat-plane joints, no ball joints; etc)

- TVC Axe Woves (TM Season 3) = kitbash of Target figure with S3 updates

Here's a comparison image I found. I notice the chest armor changes, jumpsuit and belt color changes, a different holster, and mods to the jetpack. All changes are on the minor side though. I'd much rather have had a S1 or a S3 Greef Karga, any other new Mandalorian, or literally anything else new.

We need a LIKE button for posts like this, LOL!

I think we'll get a Marshal IG-11 before we get IG-12.  It's probably going to take some time for Hasbro to figure out how to make IG-12.  When they do?  I see a new deluxe figure in our futures.  And I get the feeling that Grogu's new ride was probably something that was held back from Hasbro this season.

I'm going to be an ******* and say I wish we'd get a photoreal Jyn Erso to go with Cassian Andor. I know, I'm a terrible person.

But also: Saw Guerrera, Mon Mothma, Bodie Rook, Base Malbus...all sorely missing from our collections. Aside from the stupid removable helmet, I didn't see a problem with Axe Woves. And my collection didn't feel incomplete not having the Mandalorian dude who briefly answered the Armorer's hails about the Empire attacking.

I don't think a photoreal Jyn is a terrible idea.  But I think some smart re-use might be good in her case - make it into a Jedha version, perhaps?

I was actually thinking about the Cassian announcement earlier today.  And it came to me that the photo real Cassian release might be timed to coincide with the release of Krennic.  Krennic was one of those 5 pipelined villains from a few months ago.  All of those figures have been revealed now except for Krennic.  Maybe these are being saved for a Hasbro Pulse Con reveal?
